2 isn't as good, yes there's more content but it doesn't add much, the extra worlds are all randomized trash with the same npcs as every other bonus world. Once you've completed one or two of them, you've seen all you need to see. Also I prefer how the first one includes the starry night tournament into the main plot and you have to beat it, as opposed to the tournaments being optional and ultimately pointless. First game just has more soul
DWM1&2 are my big favorites.
No point in debating the two games they basically function as the same game.
DQM1&2 on Playstation (pic related) kills me with it never ever having a translation and I can't read moonrunes. It would easily be the best version of the games.
The number of sequels these two games have had is numerous and it's inspired a generation of gamers. Not in the /vr/ category but just a year ago they released yet another pseudo-DQM game on the Switch called Dragon Quest Treasures. It's pathetically halfway and grinds on the limited hardware. Also not in the /vr/ category but they also made Dragon Quest Monsters 2: Cobi and Tara's Marvelous Mysterious Key for the 3DS, a 3D and creative remake from 2014 that did get a fan translation.
Someone very based made a good monster location remix and difficulty adjustment romhack for DWM2. Between playing (and replaying) the originals and playing (and replaying) the romhack, that's still by far been the best experiences. Otherwise, I would almost call the series cursed, especially for the western audience. Nothing has yet to live up to the original two games(and their immediate, ultra-faithful port to the Playstation).
Because the GB translation is heavily-compressed for screenspace, which is understandable for a GB game but looks bad on a console where you've got more space to work with.
The 3ds version really needed a x2/x3 but it was pretty fun, really faithful to the original (probably too much so) then adds more content after the ending.
No retro.
I beat DQM2 first because i didn't like the random generated dungeons from DQM1, loved DQM2 and decided to just finish the first one, after finding the deal behind the monster tail It became my fav game from the two.
I really enjoyed this game back when it was current. The whole thing did feel a bit weird, though
Pretty cool that it lets you breed monsters until you get the perfect team. Maybe it’s my autism but it is very comfy. The soundtrack is great too

Oh shit I didn’t even know there was a ps1 version
It's the GOAT except for there not being any english translation.
Is there a bunch of additional content or something? What's stopping modders from just using the GB English translation?
You need to hex edit shit and hope it works. This often leads to unexplainable and hard to replicate bugs. It isn't a matter of copy and pasting.

get excited
and instantly soul-crushed 🙁
seems it's ongoing but not to be finished "anytime soon"

Do they? I noticed quite a few differences
My nostalgia won't let me play the PS1 version, I can't take not having the GBC soundtrack.

The 3DS remakes.
Easy

>DQ team puts more effort into Pokemon clone than the main series
why
Just showing them up. DWM1&2 were way better games.
I could never get over the shitty procedural generated dungeons personally
