I think you guys are forgetting how long of a time period it is for a new player between getting the wolf and bat powerups. Yes, the bat is objectively the best powerup and the one you should always use, but you're also not getting it until like 70% of the way into the game.
The entire game is just slapped together shit like this. The coolest thing about the form is being able to dash into walls to break them, but there's barely any use otherwise.
The regular gun is a joke item, the silver gun is decent.
Also unlike SotN, AoS lets you RP as a soldier shooting guns and throwing hand grenades.
Just one more reason why AoS is better.
what? its pretty useful to kill frankenstein in the first game, and in symphony of the night it feels like a machine gun because of how fast you can throw it

the other powerups just feel like cheese to beat bosses, nothing i really care for
Basic wolf form is pretty useless but with upgrades it sees a lot of use to run quickly through a long corridor without worrying about enemies, plus you can gain extra height if you jump from stairs but I'm not sure if you can actually get anywhere earlier thanks to that.

So useless, even the devs don't remember what it was actually supposed to do.
Also, the Silver Sheath since due to a glitch the buff from it is already applied at the start of the game and you actually don't need to get it from the market place.
you need Wolf to get the garnet early for infinite selling later, also you can switch between wolf and mist for infinite height, allowing you to get to later areas early
also my forearm is tired at this point from all the shield-dashing, so switching to wolf is convenient because he runs at incredible hihg speed
In the PS1 Duke Nukem game, there's a secret area with temporary invincibility in it, and it's placed in such a way that you can't get to any enemies before it runs out.
I know the one, the worst thing is it literally runs out 2 seconds before a shitty fight that spawns 2 enemies in front of you, 2 in the back, and lava all around you. If you're fast JUST enough though you can kill one enemy before it runs out but it's still shitty
Anywway SMB3 also has at least one star with no enemies/danger around
It lets you get extra height in jumps and you can also go super fast. I use it in all my playthroughs

The slightest fart will halt your dash. Wing Smash is the better option
Until you get the Power of the Wolf.
Wing smash is better on Saturn since the dpad is much easier to use and you don't have to keep doing the input.

problem is there aren't many of them in the game
frog suit is useless for 90% of the game
There are only, what, three water levels in the game that actually require navigating enough hazards to bother using the frog suit?
It also lets you swim through currents, though it's really only to access a couple of hidden pipe rooms past them.
