It’s one of the most breathtakingly awkward examples of writing I’ve ever seen in a game, fan project or otherwise. Reborn is what happens if you take all of the edgy Pokemon DS fiction of the mid 2000’s to early 2010’s and distilled it down into its most pure state, and then mixed it with actual, unironic IRL cringe. You are not prepared.
The funny thing? Reborn is completely sane and down to earth compared to its sister game Rejuvenation

rejuvenation really isn't anything crazy by 'kill god and save teh world' rpg plot standards, besides the setting being pokemon the only real differentiator is how ridiculously long it is.
meanwhile even ignoring the pokemon setting there really isn't anything else like reborn as far as writing goes, I don't think even the most self-indulgent tumblr-core games bring the plot to a screeching halt for a pronoun lecture

Like damn, you would expect it to be paraded around as the pinnacle of human relationships given where this game came from but nope.
Idk I only played Pokémon Insurgence. The plot itself wasn’t terrible but some of the dialogue made me want to pull out my teeth.
The part where one of the villains calls themselves ‘chaotic good’ with no sense of irony stands out to me.
These games tend to be made Reddit types who all have the same type of humor.
Realidea was better than I expected.
Insurgence was edgy but generally in a campy, silly way so I didn't mind it.
I'm playing through Rejuvenation right now and the story is fricking garbabe, apparently Reborn is even worse so I can't even imagine that.
The guy who calls himself chaotic good is clearly a self absorbed dickhead though, thats the point

Play Desolation, it's a lot more tempered than the other 2. Still edgy but not that much
I played a very small amount of Desolation, if nothing else the npcs seemed a bit better. I'll probably give it another go once I'm done dragging myself through the broken glass of Rejuvenation
Latest version of Pokemon Unbound.
Desolation is edgy but not to moronic levels like Reborn and it's story isn't an autistic mess like Rejuvenation, it lacks polish in places but it's enjoyable to play through once or twice, not to mention there's no homosexuals or trannies (yet) in the game unlike it' predecesors, which is pretty nice.

She's the main villain of Reborn. She does quite possibly everything wrong:
>She's a twist villain who comes out at the end of the game to say that the Lin you've been fighting the whole time is just her puppet
>She nonstop screams at you through telepathy for the entire postgame (which is very long, at least half the length of a game thats easily 50-60 hours) with shitty all lowercase sassy zoomer lingo
>She is not actually really evil for some bizarre reason, just an edgy redditor with God powers who points out things like "poachers are bad but have you considered you're bad for enslaving pokemon against their will?"
>She also gets into stupid 4th wall breaking frickery
>It's revealed shes a victim of child rape from her dad before getting tortured by the local electrorape doctor and her way of getting God powers was giving arceus a marshmallow
>at the end of the game you have the chance to spare her despite the fact she has objectively done plenty of terrible things and then she just decides she's redeemed now for no reason
Tldr She mindbroke the /vp/ plays threads.
Also now laying out everything wrong with Lin, and the fact that Reborns writers have started working on Rejuv...I mean I don't know if it's a chicken or egg scenario but damn it's kinda crazy that the problem with Lin gets about 10 times worse in the frickheap that is Rejuvenation

Rejuvenation and Reborn share a universe, with Rejuv taking place 10 years after Reborn. One of the trannies from Reborn even shows up in Rejuv as a cameo for a very prominent sidequest chain. But it's not really a sequel.
I'm moreso referring to how everything I mentioned in that list (4th wall shit, sassy zoomer dialogue, moronic unnecessary plot twists with no buildup or payoff) all get replicated 10 times over in Rejuvenation

The troony lived for 10 whole years? How did this blatant plot hole slip under the radar?
The funny thing is that there actually is a troony in Reborn who kills themselves because they can't get gender changing surgery (and because their suicide would be a sacrifice to help Jirachi reset the world, but that's a tertiary reason)

The dialogue Melia (or "M2") gives in the Renegade route give me very similar vibes, atleast from the videos I've seen. She even babbles about edgy shit out of nowhere.
The parts where Lin talks to you in the postgame were the ones I looked forward to the most considering how boring everything is.
It's not surprising. Melanie and Alice also felt like prototypes for Lin in turn, psycho little girls with a ridiculous amount of power.
I guess when Rejuvenation stole a ton of shit or just blatantly ripped off from Reborn, the Reborndevs decided to do the same...and then Rejuvenation ripped off the ripoff with M2 as you say

Rejuv is made by a different team yes, you could even argue that it's a fangame of Reborn.
They started as 2 different teams but Reborn gained a lot of Rejuv members for the final update + Rejuv has gotten a lot of Reborn members for the past 2 major updates and presumably the rest of the game.
Unsurprisingly, the past 2 major updates of Rejuv is when the quality of the game went from "mediocre" to nosediving to "appallingly awful"
Clover, but the context for the story is backended into the postgame. If you're okay with a slow burn to get there, give it a try.

The gameplay was great but the plot was some of the most unhinged i've ever seen in a pokemon romhack , people might shit on it but it's way better than some cookie cutter bland stories that other romhacks have

What am I for?
You're supposed to change your team around A LOT. If you don't you'lll be stuck smashing your head against a brick wall for most of the bosses. Also ev items have been boosted to give 32 evs per enemy and remove any other ivs you would've got.
Story wise most of it has already been said. Edgy as frick but it tries to be weirdly "lighthearted" sometimes, there's a evil team admin who is supposed to be silly and whimsical but the villaim team commits copious amounts of mass murder. Every villain who doesn't die gets "redeemed", the guy who tried to starve an entire city? Redeemed, he feels le bad. The guy who tried to have his Decidueye kill you? He got punched in the face and is le nice now. The silly scrimblo from before? How dare you imply they did anything wrong to begin with.
Also the postgame is really fricking long.
