    Phyrexia?

Phyrexia is at least ideal by Phyrexian standards.
Grixis sucks even for the liches and demons that reside there because there's no fresh life force. Even the most powerful individuals on Grixis are vultures and dogs fighting over scraps on a dying world.

wasn't phyrexia in the same predicament which is why they tried to find a way to invade other planes and keep going?

No the philosophy of the great work requires all life to know compleation. The Phyrexian's have known for most of their existence that other planes exists and they must spread the blessings everywhere.

Phyrexia's only downside is that it leaves blind spots in adaptation and conceptualizations with a very narrow doctrine because the only concept they can't fully embrace is freewill or freedom. Urza planed around that which is why he made imperfect human machines/systems to stop them because its the only way to surprise them. A "perfect" plan is a predictable plan.

Not really. Phyrexia's goal has always explicitly been to grow and thrive. Phyrexia itself had artificial jungles and production facilities that were explicitly designed to swell the Phyrexian ranks. If Phyrexia had somehow been cut off from the multiverse, they would still have thrived and sustained themselves, because Phyrexians enjoy being Phyrexians.

Grixis isn't like that. Grixis was undergoing very rapid entropy, but unlike Phyrexia, didn't even have the means or resources to invade somewhere else. And to be clear, that's why I say that Grixis is worse.
What is being an underling in Phyrexia? Being born as a newt, either dying an early death or being compleated and brainwashed into a proper Phyrexian. At which point you are a zealous soldier fighting in a war for the fate of the multiverse.
What is being an underling in Grixis? You're some human chained up in a dungeon or holed up in a cave, surviving off of a diet of rotting fish and meat, awaiting the day some necromancer or demon ends up killing you. Maybe you have talent though? Perhaps you become a necromancer yourself, cut a deal with a demon, claw and fight your way all the way to the top! And then what do you have? A diet of rotting fish and meat, awaiting the day some necromancer or demon ends up killing you.

A Phyrexian would tell you that all the death, struggle, and torture on Phyrexia is for a purpose. For making a strong army capable of conquering the multiverse. And every Phyrexian thinks that's a good thing.
All of the death, struggle, and torture on Grixis is meaningless. Nobody has a way to leave. Nobody has anything to gain. Nobody on Grixis seems like they would be happy. Not the lowest rat nor the most powerful demon. And worst of all, it isn't even sustainable.

Phyrexia is a military doing unethical experiments. Grixis is homeless men in a desert fighting over roadkill.
The peak of Phyrexia is a military scientist. The peak of Grixis is the guy who eats the roadkill.

Sounds like Grixis is better, all you have to do is to become undead and 99% problems go away.

No, because even the undead on Grixis are going to starve. There isn't enough life force to go around.
Not that becoming an undead is even easy, assuming you don't just want to be a puppet for someone else. Sedris betrayed an entire kingdom, sacrificed thousands of subjects, and his own family, all to become the most powerful lich on Grixis. And you know what he got?
An afterlife of fighting off other liches and demons for those last metaphorical bits of roadkill.

Any given phyrexia is worse. And Grixis is roughly tied with Ikoria in terms of how shit it is to live on, with ikoria edging out as SLIGHTLY worse

    Rifts Wormwood is pretty bad.

    >living planet
    >corrupted by demons
    >everything wants to eat or absorb you
    >no native food or vegetation to eat
    >you have to find healthy secretions to consume
    >meanwhile armies of demons roam the planet
    >and convert you to living batteries if you're a mortal
    >for their hideous bio-wizardry experiments
    >good luck finding a portal or ship to get out

Grixis at least has the benefit of post-conflux you can just gtfo and go to Bant or whatever

Did Phyrexia canonically tried to invade Grixis during their multiversal chimpout? I imagine that'd be fun.

Isn't Alara reunited by now? So Grixis shouldn't be as shitty since all the liches can now invade Jund and Bant

The Conflux is really what saved Grixis. Now all of those legions of undead soldiers that the liches and demons were stockpiling have a purpose, because there's places to invade that have fresh corpses and life force.
Overnight Grixis went from a doomed plane to somewhere that's maybe silghtly more shitty than Innistrad. Somewhere that sucks to be an ordinary human, but is pretty great to be a necromancer.
