Name a single founding SM chapter or Chaos SM Legion in 40k that wasn’t cooler as a legion in 30k.
That’s right, YOU CAN’T.
Pic related chapters/legions that were cooler in 30K.

I mix parts from both. I also add WW2 and Necromunda and Warcry parts... 40k lore and imagery is just a palette to me, nothing else, and increasingly less with monopose
>squads are 4 and 6 because frick you
>mounted on washers for feel
>a boltgun is a special weapon in a squad of techno barbarians with flintlocks
I just assumed most people gave up on the big games at some point and started kitbashing and house ruling
Word bearers
Their whole schtick in the heresy was getting all daemonic/posessed, and they've only gotten more freaky as time goes on.
The edgy spiky stuff really suits them.
Truth. Word Bearers got cooler after they went fully Chaos in the years after the HH. I never cared for their boring grey scheme but their dark red and silver look is cool as hell. Lorgar, Erebus and Kor Phaeron are all still around so the Word Bearers are in more or less the same state as they were before it all went down.
In other words Erebus won. Get fricked.
Well Argel Tal is gone but who cares about him.
>Iron Warriors in 40k: warpsmiths, obliterators, and daemon engines
>Iron Warriors in 30k: uhhh a bunch of tanks and one robot
Blood angels fricking suck in 30k. All their chapter defining shit happened right afterwards. They're just boring red dudes with blonde hair.
Don't they still have the Red Thirst though? They only mellowed out because Daddy Sanguinius was around.
It was apparently rare before the death of Sanguinius
Doesn't help that they get barely any attention in the HH novels in general.
There is nothing cook about 30k.
>There is nothing cook about 30k.
It has beakies.
Beakies a pretty "cook".
Black Legion
Because they didn't exist in 30k, even if I also feel SoH blow them out of the water anyway
Alpha Legion
Because now no one has any bloody clue anymore as to what the frick they're supposed to be doing
HH made them "we only pretend to be traitors"
You aren't wrong.
I dunno, ask /hhg/
Thousand Sons.

Jobbers in 30k vs jobbers in 40k?
Ironic that Ultramarines suffer the most from this IMO. They looked so much cooler in 30k.
40k Ultramarines suffer from being posterboys so they have to be as generic as possible. They're allowed to be Space Romans more interested in their little empire within the Imperium in 30k. Also the best Ultramarine stories are when they get the shit kicked out of them
>Betrayal at Calth
>Second Tyrannic War
Wait I'm moronic, it was the first where the Ultras got fricked.
That Ultramarine is looking awfully teal. Suspicious.
Emperor's Children.
>30K prep school kids
>40K trust fund hedonists
both are boring but at least the corrupted ones have more varied stuff going on than being boutique ultramarines.
Space wolves.
>30K only pretending to be moronic, not entirely sure they're pretending, staring to lean in too hard
>40K wolfwolfwolfwolf christmas sleigh
Iron Hands
>30K techno death guard, much excite
>40K lost themselves to the machine and grief, perverted and horrible mockeries of their dead dad
Blood Angels
>30K redeemed cannibals fighting with an actual angel
>40K decaying bipolar cannibals fighting against their own jesus delusions
Okay that last one they're both pretty neat.
Iron Hands
Iron Warriors
Word Bearers
Blood Angels
Raven Guard
Salamanders
Emperor’s Children are about the same in both settings
Thousand Sons
30k Emperor's Children have a lovely looking purple color scheme.
Of course there is nothing preventing you from painting 40k Chaos Marines with this purple and saying it's a warband that still uses the old colors, like the World Eaters and Gladiator Cadre 331.
30k Emperor's children are also really cool in the sense that they are warrior poets/artists. Each strives to be the best at *something* and achieve peak humanity in a way that is beyond what normal humans can achieve.
Then in 40k, they become genetic monstrosities who... take organs from aliens and graft them onto themselves?.
Eidolon's post-Heresy faction the Phoenix Conclave uses the traditional EC color scheme with polished clean armor anyway.
30k SW didn't have ice weapons.
30k is getting worse as more 40k shit seeps into it. No more plain legionnaires. Too much hero shit. All the art work is going into the fantasy sigmar/40k dynamic as they walk away from the historical style paint techniques.
Frick James and their shitass modelers who insist on bedazzling every fricking surface.

Dark Angels. They're better in 40k than in the HH.
I liked Dark Angels back when we didn't know what the big secret was. The fact that it just turned out to be "We're actually moronic" kind of makes me sad.
Feel the same. The last few years have been like watching the color being bleached out of something by the sun. Stripped down to be even less than a meme.
Raven guard, word bearers and world eaters are all cooler post heresy.
30k is the worst GW IP. Even worse than Smegmar.
>Even worse than Smegmar
Physically impossible.
I can't think of anything from 30k that was more interesting than 40k, aside from having cooler armor.
Maybe frick off back to your containment thread marine piggie
I strongly dislike those bolters.
This + the feeling of decay and the end of an empire + better looking models + no Primaris or women is why I prefer HH as a setting
I dunno, ask /hhg/
