Oblivion (People like to b***h about "UbiSoft" regarding Open World, but Oblivion is what actually popularized it for general audiences in my experience and that is not going into HORSE ARMOR, i also think it was one of the earlier instances of MUH PHYSICS being such primary point of Marketing, stuff like MGS had TECHNOLOGY like the melting ice but i don't think it was ever really so forefront in the marketing from my memory)
I also wanna say whatever originated Gacha Mobage too but im not too well versed in Maobage history to know what game that is.
Earthbound is just wrecking havoc in the Indie sphere.
>Earthbound is just wrecking havoc in the Indie sphere.
It's probably top three for influencing indie development but I would put Link's Awakening and Symphony of the Night above it for number of games that draw direct inspiration.
probably "openworld survival crafting" tidal wave
but there's worse stuff listed here than a particular genre being produced to an unbalanced degree due to trend chasing.
See it isnt even an OLD GOOD thing for me, its the fact that even games with stronger gameplay that came later are full of moronic bloat and dogshit design decisions. Shit like FE4 are dogshit, and I have no idea why people praise it so hard when it is bereft of proper challenge, plays slow as sin, and has padding
All Fire Emblem Awakening proved is that if you pandered hard enough nobody will care about anything else which is how we ended up with dogshit like 3h and revelations
Fire Emblem Awakening is right but for all the wrong reasons. The TBS genre is alive and well. Hell, id say Engage was actually a very fun video game to play, Triangle Strategy, despite its flaws in the story and pacing department, was a technologically solid game as well, and there are some nice things such as Metal Slug Tactics too. Its a shame the Langrisser remakes kind of fricking sucked dick though. I enjoyed that they gave you a ton of options for the music and the option to use the good art, but they made the game mechanically worse and even more braindead somehow and the Fire Emblem Heroes style chibis are fricking ugly as sin.
The main reason why id feel Awakening is right is moronic waifu pandering. At least a few companies have taken note to turn select franchises into some crappy haremshit considering this crappy haremshit saved a long running franchise from extinction
Black person. it's all the overhyped games that exist in the market, like Far Cry 3, Call of Diddly, and many multiplayer doodoos. don't forget the flavor of the year games such as pokemon, fifa and more that come out annualy.
No one played it when it was new tho
It only existed as a rental copy that was never in and never for reserve
(You could reserve rental movies and games if you really wanted to see/play it) (Except Earthbound and FF 4, 5 and 6) (we got ff5 in Canada. Shut hole, i seen it, held the box, read the back)
F/GO has done more irreparable to the industry than any westernslop ever could, because it hit the only country that matters: Japan. >turns out a shitton of nips are ronery virgins that would gladly pay top dollar for a CHANCE to win a jpeg of their waifu >this works so well that it creates several imitators and permeates into doujin territory >which in turn polluted Ganker and /vg/ with endless waifushit threads that push out actual Gankeridya discussion
not exactly a game but >release a gameless, hard to develop, overpriced, normalgay pandering dvd player >it outsells all of its competitors' lifetime sales before two of them even release >sets the stage for the cancer that would be the 7th gen consoles onwards (the ps3's disaster launch was just a PS2 repeat except the games never came)
also it's pre launch hype campaign is literally the only reason the xbox even became a thing
Toby Fox used a couple soundfonts as an homage, and there's about 1 game (omori) that actually fits the "quirky earthbound inspired rpg about depression" meme. Gaming has fallen.
>and there's about 1 game (omori) that actually fits the "quirky earthbound inspired rpg about depression" meme.
What about Jimmy and the Pulsating Mass?
your favorite one
Smash Bros since Earthbound is only relevant because of Smash Bros
Same deal with Fire Emblem and Smash helping it escape Japan Exclusivity
Earthbound was good. Mortal Kombat has had nothing but a purely negative influence on the industry since it began.
world of warcraft
oblivion
maple story
TF2
whatever the first game with "loot box" drops that you had to pay real money for keys to open them with was.
Probably something Nexon published?
Valve drone passing the blame to others
Not sure I can name one that did less

BotW
This.
/thread
How when everything BoTW does was already done before with other games like most Ubisoft games
why did you bite?
That’s not Minecrap dumbass
What did minecraft do that was so damaging?
probably "openworld survival crafting" tidal wave

World of Warcraft
Fate/Grand Order
Kancolle
Final Fantasy VII
GTAV
I also neglected to mention some honorable mentions
Fire Emblem Awakening (heemed the TBS genre)
Resident Evil V
>Fire Emblem Awakening (heemed the TBS genre)
>javcav emblem had so much more strategic depth and nuance bro i SWEAR
See it isnt even an OLD GOOD thing for me, its the fact that even games with stronger gameplay that came later are full of moronic bloat and dogshit design decisions. Nah, Fire Emblem Awakening didn't popularize shitty pointless padding. Persona did
All Fire Emblem Awakening proved is that if you pandered hard enough nobody will care about anything else which is how we ended up with dogshit like 3h and revelations

Then why didn't Engage sell?
Because half the criticisms of that game are literally "muh character designs".
Engage sold fine, just a little less than Three Houses. Drop the contrarianism, it will get you nowhere.
it did like 1/3rd the numbers 3 Houses did
It's a pretty big drop
3H [forma de leones azules] is good thoughever

Whatever the very first insanely popular low effort current gen remake is

All action games were ruined by this turd
Unironically an overrated piece of shit, every subsequent souls game is better than this one.
Now I know you're baiting homosexual.
>proving him right
Would you forgive him, anon?
Anyone that would obviously never had "that kid" in their life
>name another video game that has done more damage to the video game industry than picrel
Easy. Halo and COD. Any MOBA. World of Warcraft.
F/GO has done more irreparable to the industry than any westernslop ever could, because it hit the only country that matters: Japan.

This scared the shit out of me when I was a kid. I'll never forget those smells, and haven't smelled anything like them since.
the Garbage Pail Kid era was insane
why did American Millenials like if so much?
Portal 2. Uptick in le artsy puzzle games with quips and “deep lore”
TF2 for popularizing loot boxes.
