You're not a fan of the game if you don't actually play the game anon. You're the game equivalent to someone who wears a team jersey and talks about how cool they are when you couldn't name a single player and don't even follow them or know their actual record or their strengths/weaknesses. If you think that's enough to be a fan then you are a super-mega-moron.
that is just how it works nowaday
why do you think there's so many people who keep talking about how "gatekeeping" is bad

Sadly yes, the games get easier every release and the weapons feel less unique every release because everything keeps getting what made weapons special. The hammer gets a counter, the SnS gets KO, the charge blade gets everything, everything gets to fly around like an insect glaive, mountain memes are getting more moronic every game, and preparation is almost non-existent.
tbh I kinda get it, weapons had more defined strengths and weaknesses in the older games but only one set of strengths was really rewarded by the game, so you had GS/Hammer and then every other weapon trying to be a poor imitation of GS and Hammer
The sad thing is hammer fell off because it strayed the least from its original identity, while other weapons kept collecting things that mitigated their weaknesses all on their own, like lance getting more mobility.
Monster design should have varied more in ways that more actively punished/rewarded using certain weapons, but at this point such an approach would be radioactive to players who "main" a single weapon as 99% of their usage and expect it to carry them through every encounter with ease.
Rise didnt do anything, it was just another weird expertimental MH that can be ignored.
World is what caused it to go to shit with all the cancer it brought in.

You didn't explain on any of your "no" replies why said franchises new games are dumbed down.
For example, Splatoon. DQ is still good as well, and I don't think Metroid Dread was "dumbed down".

Ok I admit Ive never played splatoon
For metroid the movement is now too simple and I really dislike the parry combat, for DQ and as someone that played them all 11 was so easy it bored me to death the dungeons felt like jokes.
It has always been the series that most deservedly garnered the "spam attack to win" reputation JRPGs get. Only a select few titles throughout its history ask for any amount of intelligent play from the player. Just because you grew up with it doesn't mean it was good.
>original
*fresh
Kind of ironic a series that makes such a point about how fresh and modern the kids are has gotten so shamelessly rehashed. Splatoon 3 shouldn't have come out until the Switch 2 at the very least.
Splatoon 3 mechanically is the best Splatoon to date. My issue with 1 was a lack of parkour-like physics and underutelizing the platforming outside of the campaign. I feel like the multiplayer maps encorporate things like sponges and ink rails well, not too overbearing but present. If anything I think the acrobatics of the single player campaign is subpar now and certainly needs more platforming taking advantage of squid rolling and whatnot.

Crash 4 is the first step in the right direction since 3, yeah yeah, new Tawna is awful but gameplay wise its better than anything since the PS1 days.
>losing momentum from slide jumps >gimmick characters they couldn't be bothered to make full levels for, only actually fun one is dingodile >le dark souls difficulty
only care about crash going through corridors and jumping around and for me this one is better than 3 even.
3s gimmick stages were pure trash and if you compare to anything ps2-ps4 there isnt a single worth mentioning game.
The sheer hubris of the "people" that made Crash 4 is what kills the game. Getting to 100+% completion is such a fricking slog.
The PS2 games were much better than that slop.
Which is the problem. The standard is just passable. Colors sucks. Unleashed sucks. Generations has JUST enough effort to make it good. Shadow and 06 are embarrassingly unfinished, heroes is an experiment in how to make a full game out of as little content as possible. Frontiers is mid at best, I said it. If I hear one more "liking sonic is part of my personality " motherfricker call it a step in the right direction.....it's so fricking sloppily made and it's not a fricking platformer.
Sonic hasn't had a good 3d game in 24 fricking years
>Colors sucks. Unleashed sucks. Generations has JUST enough effort to make it good.
That's funny. I enjoyed Unleashed and liked Colors, but fricking hated Generations.
I will only agree with this specifically in the abandoning of spritework. In every other facet pokemon was always an easy buggy game of low quality and you only realize this about current titles as you grow older.
I would not call the writing significantly better, just larger in scope and text. That is not a good thing when it comes to a game like this. >multiplayer
If used to connect to friends then marginally because it is easier to connect via wifi to people you already know, but if you don't know the people you're battling it's worse by principle. Same reason why MTGO and MtG Arena's multipler are worse than sitting down to play paper magic with a person. Plenty of other reasons those clients are both shit. If you super autism it and need perfect IVs and natures then you've missed the point the same way you have with the writing.
>In every other facet pokemon was always an easy buggy game of low quality
Gen 1 was really the only "buggy" generation so I'm not really sure what you mean here.
He said "always" in reference to the older games, which weren't very buggy aside from the literal first one. SWSH is modern, and I agree that the bugs have majorly worsened.
Ninja Gaiden

Advance Wars
Grand Theft Auto
Resident Evil
Castlevania

Final Fantasy
Secret of Mana

Donkey Kong Country (but only because they stopped making games)
Assassin's Creed. AC was fun as frick up until they made it a pseudo RPG with absolutely abysmal combat, story and movement. People shit on AC Unity a lot but it was unironically the direction the series should've stayed in and never pivoted.
Advanced Wars. Reboot camp was shite and I already had low expectations. If they dont get their shit together for a sequel I'm joust going to play By Web from now on.
I just dont want to play real time, its much more comfortable to play at my own pace and it rewards pure desicion making over desicion + reflex +input accuracy.
I would like to delve deeper into RTSes one day but I can't see myself liking it more in the long run, but I do respect the skill under time it requires.
>Pokemon >Resident Evil >Final Fantasy >Fire Emblem >Fallout >Zelda >Doom >Tomb Raider
Probably any long-running franchise, honestly. Devolving into AAA-slop is the fate of every successful IP.
Just enjoy new IPs and if they're commercial failures then celebrate that they died with their dignity intact. Let Sleeping Dogs™ lie.
Because they've failed to deliver on some aspects. >Awakening
Bad gameplay, bad story, good presentation. >Fates
Bad gameplay except for Conquest, shit story, good presentation. >Echoes
Horrid gameplay, mediocre story, great presentation. >3H
Horrid gameplay, okay story, mediocre presentation. >Engage
Great gameplay, bad story, mediocre presentation.
Not even going to mention the dating sim shit and excessive downtime most of these titles have. However, I'm not going to stand here and pretend that FE used to be a great franchise when it's always been just average.
>Because they've failed to deliver on some aspects.
Most older FEs failed to deliver on MANY aspects. You're also intentionally downplaying the extent to which games like Conquest are better, gameplay-wise. It's not only better than shit like Tellius, it's leagues better. I'd gladly take shitty stories any day of the week if it means series-high maps, challenge, and replayability.
Alear and Byleth are arguably not avatars, seeing as you can't customize their appearance nor backgrounds/innate abilities. They're established characters with existing backstories. It'd be like if you were allowed to choose Marth or a mechanically identical and story analogous princess. I guess you can name them, but that's kind of a low bar.
I don’t play SMT but an example would be a male protagonist that has a sister that’s also part of the story, the fact that you can play most modern FEs as a female avatar proves my point in them just being soulless self inserts.
And it's true. The franchise has always been lackluster in many aspects to varying degrees depending on the titles and the rabid fans always want to pretend otherwise.
Im still salty they cut support for Battlefront 2 (2017) because the disney movies failed so bad and because of the backlash
The team that was updating the game actually cared about the fanbase and was adding a medtric ton of Clone Wars content, im sure we would have Jango Fett, and Ahsoka ad actual heroes if they were allowed to keep updating it
Final Fantasy
Every Konami property that isn't Bemani
Monster Hunter, not because of World or Rise themselves but because the fanbase is a trash fire now.
>Monster Hunter, not because of World or Rise themselves but because the fanbase is a trash fire now.
The fanbase is a trash fire as a direct result of World and games born from World's influence (Rise)
Animal crocks new horizons was done dirty though, you can see the villagers become more moronic. Not to mention the loading screens and the slow ass pick up of items holy shit.
Battlefield, if the next game fails then the whole franchise is dead and will go the same way as Medal of Honor. Just spin off games and a skeleton crew of DICE.
Ck3 is getting there but at a snails pace and its up to people even on roblox/s&box to make their own proper Victoria 3, which is horrendously sad.
Need for Speed
Rockstar dropped the ball so fricking hard for not making another midnight club post GTA-V (or any other games for that matter). The customization in LA was so insane, that it still can't be replicated nowadays.
I remember a lot of people not knowing the difference between "your" and "you're" back in the 2000s and early 2010s. It seems that has improved a lot, so maybe there is still hope.
And now they're making another fricking MMO WITH NFTs as 'in-game currency' by some group of scammers called Creta.
My God just fricking DO the formula again instead of pushing for that meme, Blueside. It's the ONLY game that plays like it is and no one has really replicated it despite the potential in it.
Persona, after 4 released, Atlus started milking the series with several spin-offs. 5's characters and plot points were recycled from the previous entries, unfortunately, they milked even more with 5's success and their games after that felt derivative from it. In other words, Atlus keep rehashing and I feel there's nothing completely new from them these days.
It's funny how the deterioration can differ, with Blizzard I want burn it all down since they're clearly evil.
Meanwhile Gamefreak sort of confuses me since they're trying to milk their cashcow by pulling it's tail(which is partly explained by that particular cashcow being so fat that it works out for them regardless, but still).
The Elder Scrolls, without a doubt. I recently played Daggerfall and its actually amazing how such an immersive and in-depth RPG adventure series, borderlining on medieval'esque fantasy life simulator, managed to fall so low from its' glory.
>Be in angsty phase in mid-late teens >Want to trade the constant wave of Blazblue games for Guilty Gear because BB was too campy and tropey for my tastes at the time >Come 2020's and the absolute fricking state that is nu-GG
I did Blazchads a favor in hindsight but I'm so sorry to anyone who was a fan of guilty gear pre-2010's
Its not surprising, once the creators leave the company or move up to other things the series will inevitably go to shit eventually
For new stuff you gotta just hope for good indies, its all that is left.
on top of my head,
Fallout
Final Fantasy
Resident Evil -mostly the tv and movie adaptation, games are still okayish

Elder Scroll
Supcom
because Squeenix ruined it with 2 and then promptly tossed the body in the dumpster
I honestly wish more companies would do that with series they ruin instead of parading the rotting corpse around
Street Fighter: 6 sucks with a lame neon piss presentation, gameplay for noobs, and cringe season pass mtx overuse of DLC + total price.
Resident Evil: Strayed away from the original games premises, while making remake remaster slop
Monster Hunter: Do not have much experience with that, but I did hear it became worse.
Devil May Cry: Died from a shitty Gacha Honkai clone. Even though the franchise came back from 2 shits that almost killed the franchise.
Dragons Dogma: Atrocious monetization.
Mega Man: Milked to shit with mostly mediocre to trash games in the 2000's. Now only used for compilations with also have spyware DRM to crack down on modding. Only brand new games since 2010 were whatever Dive was, and 11 which was only made to spide Mighty Number 9 after it made millions on kickstarter just to fail.
Capcom Versus: Disney and Marvel will likely never work with Capcom after how bad Infinite was, and also bombed. SNK again or another partner like Sega, maybe, though it does seem possible.
Other franchises (Especially Darkstalkers): Will never come back due to not selling 10 Million copies in 2 weeks.

3s gimmick stages were pure trash and if you compare to anything ps2-ps4 there isnt a single worth mentioning game.
The sheer hubris of the "people" that made Crash 4 is what kills the game. Getting to 100+% completion is such a fricking slog.
The PS2 games were much better than that slop.
>monster hunter
No
Once with Sonic '06 and a second time with every game after Mania.
Not even Sonic Lost World or Boom after the universally loved Generations
That makes 3 times Sonic has had a lowest low
06
Boom
Forces
>forces
Forces is just a little worse than generations
Literally all of them.
>it's
need I say more
Yes, please elaborate.
It't not a series. There was just one game.
Why doesn't that sword have a proper grip?
i can't think of a franchise that existed more than 20 years go that is better today than it was then
I'd say Devil may Cry
Dragon Quest.
Tomb Raider
Silent Hill
Final Fantasy
Definitely Pokemon.
I will only agree with this specifically in the abandoning of spritework. In every other facet pokemon was always an easy buggy game of low quality and you only realize this about current titles as you grow older.
the multiplayer has improved with every gen. and SV's main scenario is the best writing pokemon has
I would not call the writing significantly better, just larger in scope and text.
Have you seen the SWSH games?
He said "always" in reference to the older games, which weren't very buggy aside from the literal first one. SWSH is modern, and I agree that the bugs have majorly worsened.
no, the series peaked at 2, in both mechanics and soul
Ninja Gaiden
Street Fighter
Fire Emblem
Advance Wars
Grand Theft Auto
Resident Evil
Castlevania
Diablo
Tomb Raider
Mega Man
Final Fantasy
Secret of Mana
Ghouls 'n Ghosts
Donkey Kong Country (but only because they stopped making games)
Monster Hunter, WoW, and Pokemon easily.

Zelda.
Zelda
Are we using reddit memes now to make threads ?
What the frick is going on with you homosexuals
Need for Speed
Good of war
Assassin's Creed. AC was fun as frick up until they made it a pseudo RPG with absolutely abysmal combat, story and movement. People shit on AC Unity a lot but it was unironically the direction the series should've stayed in and never pivoted.
Advanced Wars. Reboot camp was shite and I already had low expectations. If they dont get their shit together for a sequel I'm joust going to play By Web from now on.
Advance Wars is literally just a neutered babby tier RTS for console. Just play C&C or something, oh wait...
>rts
Its turn based tho
Because a consoles are notoriously bad for real time strategy and it's aimed at children.
I just dont want to play real time, its much more comfortable to play at my own pace and it rewards pure desicion making over desicion + reflex +input accuracy.
I would like to delve deeper into RTSes one day but I can't see myself liking it more in the long run, but I do respect the skill under time it requires.

The series is basically dead since Hasbro gobbled it up.

Probably any long-running franchise, honestly. Devolving into AAA-slop is the fate of every successful IP.
Just enjoy new IPs and if they're commercial failures then celebrate that they died with their dignity intact. Let Sleeping Dogs™ lie.
Gears of War
Titanfall
Doom

Star Wars
Dark Souls
Far Cry

Not sure why people are saying FE. Sure, 3H was bad, but it's surrounded by bangers on both sides that absolutely btfo oldschool javcav emblem.
Also the avatars are lame slop garbage
Alear and Byleth are arguably not avatars, seeing as you can't customize their appearance nor backgrounds/innate abilities. They're established characters with existing backstories. It'd be like if you were allowed to choose Marth or a mechanically identical and story analogous princess. I guess you can name them, but that's kind of a low bar.
Nice cope but if a character has a male or female counterpart with the exact same design as each other, they’re an avatar. Simple as that.
Is the Demi-fiend an avatar?
I don’t play SMT but an example would be a male protagonist that has a sister that’s also part of the story, the fact that you can play most modern FEs as a female avatar proves my point in them just being soulless self inserts.
You basically just posted this meme in text form
And it's true. The franchise has always been lackluster in many aspects to varying degrees depending on the titles and the rabid fans always want to pretend otherwise.
>However, I'm not going to stand here and pretend that FE used to be a great franchise when it's always been just average.
Harsh truth is that Fire Emblem was never good and I wonder where it would be today if not for Marth and Roy joining Melee.
echoes is the only good fire emblem game released this decade homosexual
Bangers can’t save that dumpster fire of a game b***h

>everyone keeps saying resident evil
Besides RE3 Remake we've not really had a bad RE game since 6 so why all the hate?
Anything Starwars related
Im still salty they cut support for Battlefront 2 (2017) because the disney movies failed so bad and because of the backlash
The team that was updating the game actually cared about the fanbase and was adding a medtric ton of Clone Wars content, im sure we would have Jango Fett, and Ahsoka ad actual heroes if they were allowed to keep updating it
Battlefront 2 is absolutely dead now
Is it really?
I played a year or 2 ago and everything seemed fine on the clone wars end and IIRC the modding community was still putting out stuff
The new sequal shit was dead though
Sucks if thats the case, game was genuinly fun
The whole thing was fricking soulless, are you that deprived of multiplayer shooters?
Zelda
Final Fantasy
Every Konami property that isn't Bemani
Monster Hunter, not because of World or Rise themselves but because the fanbase is a trash fire now.
>Monster Hunter, not because of World or Rise themselves but because the fanbase is a trash fire now.
The fanbase is a trash fire as a direct result of World and games born from World's influence (Rise)
Minecraft.
Zelda and Pokemon are the worst bastardizations I can think of.
Pokemon. It's objective peak was 15 years ago. The last but of hope for the franchise? 10 years ago.
Animal crocks new horizons was done dirty though, you can see the villagers become more moronic. Not to mention the loading screens and the slow ass pick up of items holy shit.
Diablo, Warcraft, Doom, Fallout.
Final fantasy
Phantasy Star
Crusader Kings, Victoria.
Rockstar dropped the ball so fricking hard for not making another midnight club post GTA-V (or any other games for that matter). The customization in LA was so insane, that it still can't be replicated nowadays.
Halo
>people still don't know the difference between "it's" and "its"
Honestly not even an ESL thing anymore. Most Americans graduate HS without knowing the difference nowadays.
I remember a lot of people not knowing the difference between "your" and "you're" back in the 2000s and early 2010s. It seems that has improved a lot, so maybe there is still hope.
Guilty Gear
And now they're making another fricking MMO WITH NFTs as 'in-game currency' by some group of scammers called Creta.
My God just fricking DO the formula again instead of pushing for that meme, Blueside. It's the ONLY game that plays like it is and no one has really replicated it despite the potential in it.

There's a lot, but BotW was by far the biggest disappointment I've ever had in decades of gaming, so Zelda.
Final fantasy
Persona, after 4 released, Atlus started milking the series with several spin-offs. 5's characters and plot points were recycled from the previous entries, unfortunately, they milked even more with 5's success and their games after that felt derivative from it. In other words, Atlus keep rehashing and I feel there's nothing completely new from them these days.

With no ability to discern the shades of dark in front of you, its no wonder you seem so blind.
Counter Strike
Literally unplayable without FACEIT. Minimum of one blatant cheater in every pub.

The Elder Scrolls, without a doubt. I recently played Daggerfall and its actually amazing how such an immersive and in-depth RPG adventure series, borderlining on medieval'esque fantasy life simulator, managed to fall so low from its' glory.

I did Blazchads a favor in hindsight but I'm so sorry to anyone who was a fan of guilty gear pre-2010's
It was a good time, but I'm glad it's over.

Gonna say Yakuza again because holy shit I would not start it if Infinite Slop was a thing back then.
The current Zelda games come to mind.
Almost every Mario Sports spinoff fits this bill. It's depressing.

Oh look, another Deus Ex thread.
More like the medium as a whole
Fire emblem
Resident Evil
Devil may cry
Monster Hunter
Every franchise that capcom has ever created
Its not surprising, once the creators leave the company or move up to other things the series will inevitably go to shit eventually
For new stuff you gotta just hope for good indies, its all that is left.

Le every le game le old good le new bad do I le fit in guiiiiiizzz XDDD?
Yeah pretty much, all media peaked a couple decades ago just like this civilization as a whole did, its all downhill from here.
Guess you should just have a nice day then.
Nah Ill just enjoy old media for the rest of my life and the one or two in a decade new things worth watching/playing. Its fine.
Gears of War and Halo. I miss both of them so much and I wish I played Gears more than CoD in hindsight
stellar blade
on top of my head,
Fallout
Final Fantasy
Resident Evil -mostly the tv and movie adaptation, games are still okayish
Dead Rising
GTA
Far Cry
Saint Row
Mortal Kombat
Pokemon
Zelda
Star fox/Fzero/Metroid - but those are mostly dead anyway
Elder Scroll
SCP
Supcom
because Squeenix ruined it with 2 and then promptly tossed the body in the dumpster
I honestly wish more companies would do that with series they ruin instead of parading the rotting corpse around
Fire Emblem, but the threads
Literally every Capcom franchise.
If SMT VV turns out to be shit then Megami Tensei in general. Base SMT V and then Soul Hackers 2 was a one-two punch I wouldn't have imagined.
Paper Mario
but anon, we're getting a $60 TTYD remake with no new content, a 30fps cap, and a butchered re-localization, you should be happy!
