You can get flash carts that will sit flush with the DS Lite now, though they are the shitty ones, not Everdrives. Personally I play GBA on either my modded GBA or an Analogue Pocket. For the DS I either use a DSi XL or a small n3DS.

The only pokemon worth playing is HG/SS. The way pokemon games are designed is that there's no reason to go back and play old ones since all new titles are so derivative. HG/SS is the climax of quality where the maximum amount of good things was added and the minimum amount of bad things occured. After that game you have experienced the best pokemon has to offer and can hopefully move on to other games.
