The main quest shouldn't have involved having to interact with any of these frickers especially the librarian orc in the mage college.

The reality is rhey were afraid of newbies and normies crying about quests being broken so every semi-important npc is unkillable or doesn’t involve branching or differing questlines to compensate.
I find this strange because Oblivion and Fallout 3 had way fewer essential NPCs (the only essential NPCs were the ones that the main questline would break without), and both those games were equally popular with normies.
Actually, all I did was courier a few letters around, maybe gather some pelts, and take some lazy bawd's sword up to her dad a few steps away. >lass
