Everything about ragnarok is unfinished, even the MMO is unfinished, just make a research about the MMO's origins and you'll learn the game almost didnt even come out, and was released in a unfinished state with tons of bugs and unfinished features that persists to this day.
To be fair to the MMO, half of that was because they switched to being paid at the last minute without telling anyone; that entire shitshow led to the mass hacking with shit being deleted and/or stolen, which is the main reason why the private server scene is as big as it is and why the game blew up even if most people never played on the same server.

Ragnarok online was a massive fluke, and it was made in a time that there was barely any competition. The fact gravity failed at making any other good game of the ragnarok franchise franchise just confirms it. ( They tried to make a "ragnarok 2" TWO times and failed in both attempts )

Gravity's staff has pretty much entirely turned over from the days of the first RO. So they are in essence an different entity.
The main staff behind RO left as early as the 2-2 jobs/Yuno release to make Granado Espada so Gravity has been staffed by completely different person very early in the game's life. It also explains the shitfest that are the transcendant jobs

The 2-2 were specifically designed to kill the stale WoE meta that was borderline killing it back then, namely precasts, unkillable priests/knights duos while hunters/wizards/assassins/blacksmiths were getting one shot and single cards completely breaking balance.
That's why you ended up with a job that could share its massive HP pool with others, 3 jobs which could break precasts and a job specifically designed to kill otherwise unkillable targets and one that could Strip people while another could protect against it for a, back then, massive investment.
The 20 skill points in Demon Bane and Divine Prot for monk is to prevent having a job that could agi up, bene, heal, angelus, decagi reliably, pneuma, teleport, ruwash on top of being able to snipe people.

Ragnarok engine/client is archaic as frick and cant even use more than 1 core of your CPU. If they port the game to a modern platform it will improve the performance a lot and even fix some chronic bugs the vanilla game has.

i played mabinogi on a private server for a while, which was fun as it's a great game, but it's really low population. ffxiv too, but it's really not even remotely the same, dawntrail isn't hooking me at all also. i don't think there's any MMO worth playing anymore.

In Ragnarok Landverse, monsters don't drop items, they only drop loot boxes. And to open them you have to spend energy(you know, like mobile game energy that recharges over time). So you are gated by how much you can farm this way and gotta pay up to get the loot of monsters you already fricking farmed.
And the most funny shit is the fact that they only licensed the game's name, not the engine, so they are using rAthena, despite being official and even using the gravity logo in their promos.

During development even the creators of ToS had to beg people to stop comparing their game to RO. Journos and other shitstains were constantly parroting "THE SPIRITUAL SUCCESSOR TO THAT GAME YOU LOVED" and they wanted nothing to do with it.
I think ToS is a great game on its own but the association is eternal. Everything wrong with ToS has to do with progression and balance, not the way the game plays and feels.
The promise of a fresh server attracted thousands last year so there's still quite a bit of interest in it.

I want to like Ultima Online, but what drew me to ultima online originally was the world of ultima. Outlands kinda kills that draw by creating its own world.
As it turns out stripped from their setting, I had no attachment to the actual systems or gameplay of ultima online.
Still the project is impressive and I'm rooting for the outlands guys, Hopefully they can spin off from base ultima entirely and create a world that draws me in in the future.
Also Ragnarök Online Mogs the shit out of Ultima online in terms of graphical style. Graphics aren't everything but I can take a screenshot of any random scene in Ragnarök online and it looks nice.
