New in-game overlay with a few nice features like sticky notes you can pin in-game, refreshed UI in all the settings and other menus as well as the top bar, also huge perk is that now you can make it less than half a screen wide without sending half of the window to the shadow realm
>quitting steam from taskbar alttabs you into it
WHYYYY does everything do this now
I'm going to have to go back to using fricking task manager to close my applications, don't fricking get in my face when I'm trying to close you b***h
What the frick are you talking about? Click the word "Steam" and in the menu that opens click "Exit". That's literally fricking it. >muh taskmanager
Wow you are fricking brain dead.
well the first thing I saw was the notification light not telling me how many I had, clicked and instead of a message or drop it was telling me about a sale, not a great first impression and going to get real annoying if I get that everytime a wishlist game goes on sale and can't turn it off.
looks ok, the only thing that looks like an actual improv is the in game overlay but i never use it, the thing to save notes could be handy in some games tho
anyone else unable to move the window around or make it any bigger? i'd rather not have my choices be full-screen or tiny window stuck in the center of my screen, thanks
They have been slowly working towoards killing of client skins over the last several years and this update finally puts the nail in the coffin since the option to reskin steam is no longer there.
Just another example of webdev Black folk fixing what isn't broken and slowing everything down for no reason but to keep their paychecks.
thanks for responding, I tried it sadly it seems broken, people are reporting the problem though so it's going to get fixed for sure just a matter of time
Font is fricking awful and clearly designed for mobile. Way larger, fatter but clumped together.
I guess the steam overlay overhaul might be worth while because the old one lagged like a b***h, but who the frick uses steam overlay anyway other than b***hass homosexuals.
How do I make Steam overlay scale with DSR again? Not sure if what changed was me switching my GPU or the steam update, but for a long time Steam's pop ups would look tiny while using DSR, then for some reason fixed itself, and now it's back to being tiny.
Games crash for me when I open the Steam Overlay, so it's bad. Also, when I turn off my monitor the window breaks into a new window for every single element on the original window for some reason, so it's bad.
I actually like the big picture mode changes, but what I don't like is the baseline CPU and memory usage of big picture mode.
I really want an alternative game launching frontend for my Steam Deck that's preferably implemented in plain C and uses SDL.
I think I like it. as long as they don't make 100% of the UI elements flat and boring, then it's pretty good. buttons and text are a lot more visible than before and I appreciate the darker color scheme.
my only other hope is a 64bit rewrite. this ancient pos client has gotten so laggy over the years
>steam.cfg >BootStrapperInhibitAll=Enable >BootStrapperForceSelfUpdate=disable
How long until doing this stops you from being able to log in to steam?
Also, how long until offline mode stops working?
Likely never. The problems start to come when games ship with never versions of steam_api.dll that are incompatible with older versions of steam, at which point you MUST crack them.
looks exactly like the old one
What's the difference?
New in-game overlay with a few nice features like sticky notes you can pin in-game, refreshed UI in all the settings and other menus as well as the top bar, also huge perk is that now you can make it less than half a screen wide without sending half of the window to the shadow realm
I've been using it since it rolled out to beta. It's incredibly based.
what am i supposed to be looking at?
or is this just a dumb ruse?
It's shit.
My fricking eyes. It looks so frickign ugly. How do I go back. Someone help please.
the new font and icons look like shit, is there something else they changed?
i hated it at first but i got used to it in like 5 seconds. its the same ui just a little smoother
Pajeet seal of quality.
The dynamic lists make no sense. I don't know how to use them.
what the frick I had 100% exactly that same notification
its so fricking ugly, half the corners are smoothed the other half are complete, its the worst UI shitfrick since they changed it in 2019
i predicted that. i said 'ok the next thing they'll do is make it less masculine by smoothing the edges and making it look more childish
The next rollout will be circles. Mark my words
don't care, i use small mode
not my problem
that looks horrendous
it's chunkier but not in a good way
>quitting steam from taskbar alttabs you into it
WHYYYY does everything do this now

go take a nap, you cranky b***h.
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

You can fully configure what kind of notifications you get in settings.
Wishlist sales are one of the options.
looks ok, the only thing that looks like an actual improv is the in game overlay but i never use it, the thing to save notes could be handy in some games tho
I would like to have a thing to overlay a steam voice chat to see who's talking
soulless
Looks exactly like the old one :^)
Spaniard detectado.

Impressive. Very nice.
Let's see Tim Sweeny's launcher
not a fan of how large the images are
it got rid of my metro skin 🙁

honestly sucks that it can't be done anymore. used to run that 2004 skin for a bit before it got butchered as a result of client updates
It seems very forced.
Why does the font feel so sterile now?
because you think new = bad
>New changes looks worse
>And that's a good thing! Here's why!
>looks worse
that's just like your opinion, man
t. journalist
Let me guess. You want serif fonts?
There was nothing wrong with it before.
I know buddy, it's scary when things change. Do you need a hug?
Nope, I think its amusing watching zoomers gobbling up pales of shit.
>first it was journalists
>now it's the zoomers
>and it's "gobbling pales [sic] of shit"
it's a fricking font. why are you so dramatic.
You could always ignore my posts anon, why do you need to seek attention from random anons so much?
Looks like the steam deck
My boy. You see what they did to my boy??
>steamlink
Pretty pointless, but it looks more like the steamer deck UI
Looks like the same shit
I'm on 4k, the UI is not scaling and everything is small. Any idea how to fix it?
there is a monitor scaling option in interface settings. might not be the issue but worth a shot.
thanks for responding, I tried it sadly it seems broken, people are reporting the problem though so it's going to get fixed for sure just a matter of time
>not using small mode
ISHYGDDT
old news, im using the beta client, been using the new look for weeks
I switched off it for a bit because the update broke inviting friends in battle operation 2 but they fixed it apparently
Font is fricking awful and clearly designed for mobile. Way larger, fatter but clumped together.
I guess the steam overlay overhaul might be worth while because the old one lagged like a b***h, but who the frick uses steam overlay anyway other than b***hass homosexuals.
>and clearly designed for mobile
But they have no phone games.
Steam deck?
>Videos can still only be seen in either a tiny view or fullscreen
ffs

I LOVE UPDATING STEAM ON MY 3MB INTERNET CONNECTION IVE HAD FOR 10 YEARS CURTESY OF WINDSTREAM COMMUNICATIONS XD MORE WORTHLESS STEAM UPDATES PLEASE
KYS
I've been playing the Myst games and the Notes feature has been a godsend.
Does the overlay not affect performance?
Can't tell. They're very old games so it's not like they're demanding to begin with.
Games crash for me when I open the Steam Overlay, so it's bad. Also, when I turn off my monitor the window breaks into a new window for every single element on the original window for some reason, so it's bad.
Looks cool though
Just wish I could get rid of that "whats new" section.
new account? you already have twice as many games as I do
Woahho, very nice, look at that.
I hate it. It lags more.
>contextual menu goes lower so can't exit by right clicking the tab icon
moron Black folk
This is how mine's looked for like a year though.
It's shit. Somehow the client continues to get worse.
This overlay sucks dick, can't see what achievement I just got, the guides are in an ugly tiny little window, shit is worse than epic right now
first they fricked up the library. Then they fricked up big picture mode. Now they fricked up the rest.
I actually like the big picture mode changes, but what I don't like is the baseline CPU and memory usage of big picture mode.
I really want an alternative game launching frontend for my Steam Deck that's preferably implemented in plain C and uses SDL.
>preferably implemented in plain C and uses SDL.
Hope you're not holding your breath on that one, fren.
I may do it myself someday if steam continues to get more and more resource hungry. The baseline usage is already bordering on unacceptable.
>Then they fricked up big picture mode.
Old BPM was dogshit you Black person.
