RO community during its peak:
1) Way higher IQ on average, because it predates normalgays being on the internet en masse.
2) A ton of cute emo chicks who were attracted by the anime artstyle and used RO as a chatroom and thus were online constantly.
3) People still valued the people they interacted with online.
4) Nobody talked about politics expect for 9/11 jokes.
5) No trannies, no homos or other degenerates.
> 5) No trannies, no homos or other degenerates.
what the frick are you smoking? The internet and RO were full of furries even back then. And furry is just another word for "degenerate homosexual trannie"
Man, that sort of thing just makes me wish I payed attention to the game back in the late 00's when I first heard about it, instead of thinking MMOs were just boring grindy P2W shit. I know it isn't like that anymore, but I still have hope that I can find an anime style MMO that doesn't have a toxic community.
>3) People still valued the people they interacted with online.
Do people not really anymore? I don't make friends online anymore, but I've at least hit up some casual conversation when people would talk in text/voice chat.

The harem thing reminded me of something else. I was playing a female character and was invited to a party of 4 other female characters. They invited me to a skype group call.
All 4 of them were actual girls.
They all knew each other personally.
They were genuinely surprised that I was a guy.
I did not make any girlfriends in this game. Or outside of the game for that matter.
For me, it was a battleground. I only really cared about fighting other people. Everything else was only a means to better kill people. I made some anime-tier friendships where we'd fight for hours and then become best nakamas.
I conquered castled, toppled dynasties, made it rich, people thought I was cool, had hundreds of friends, made dozens of people rage and smash their keyboards.
I had fun. So, so much fun.
Ragnarok was the perfect MMO universe. I truly could do anything and have a fulfilling life inside of it.
These days, the game isn't as glorious as it was before. There isn't enough people to do things at the glorious scale we were able 10+ years ago. People actually do have lives and jobs and nasty real wives and girlfriends to tend to. And to be honest, I'm not 14 anymore so it can't be the same, specially since I know the game inside and out.
People who never got into MMOs, they will never understand.
RO was truly magical in its heyday, but we will never be able to replicate that because it was a different time with different people. Take me back, chief.

And they were openly ostracized and mocked. Also it's nowhere near the same volume of people.
I don't know man I feel like nobody cared that much back then. Furries gonna furry. But maybe I'm wrong

The best of times.

This is the main reason why I'm not sad that there isn't a modern successor to RO. It wouldn't be the same anyways.
find a classic server. i mean actual classic server not renewal classic.
Pro Hode tank 10k zenny / hour
Sure, if you have a time machine and travel back in time by 18 years, it's worth it.
Seeing the clown world we currently live in, i'm really starting to wish that was the case
Yeah, well. Who doesn't?
I miss this so fricking much
It remains my favorite massively multiplayer game to this day
