Liquid cooling is a waste of money, unless you're trying to cool down A LOT of heat. I doubt consoles will ever require more than 300W, and for this amount of power air cooling is perfectly fine.
As a comparison, Series X has a 315W power supply and peaks at 200-220W from the wall during gameplay.
Making the Xbox One look like an old vcr player didn’t help either. Sad how people barely care about what future consoles may look like anymore since exclusives are hardly a thing and the social aspects suck nowadays.
PS5 is the ugliest piece of technology I've ever owned and it sells like hot cakes. Ideally, future consoles should get more and more minimalistic until I don't even notice them in my living room - not fricking spaceships that absolutely ruin the fricking room.
This. I still have friends today ask “when the hell are they gonna make the Xbox 720?” I feel like they will never do it because they think it sounds too dude bro or unprofessional but it’s literally what we all want
I actually fricking love the Microsoft SPHERE designs.
Like damn I know how inefficient a sphere is in terms of electronics design but I just love the shape so much.
Because the vast majority of these "concept artists" are actually shit. Not even trying to be mean. They're just not usually not thinking of actual design trends, or really any outside thought with their ideas. Always fall in the realm of "trying too hard" also. Falls in line with the clout-chasing culture. You'd think it would be like a bell-curve with the distribution, but nope.
The ones with the controllers transforming in their hands piss me the frick off whenever I see them posted here.
>We took an efficient console design and stuck a giant, plastic tumor on top of it that has no purpose except making sure the console won't fit onto shelves or TV stands
lol
epic prank
All of this does make me wonder about something.
If those Korean papers about room temperature superconductor material being discovered turn out to be legitimate, how will no longer needing to account for cooling electronic devices at all influence future design philosophy.
I mean, we've basically ALWAYS designed our PCs, Consoles, Phones, etc around the idea that SOME KIND of cooling system must be included and that such cooling systems need extra 'dead space' around them to be effective (so that the waste heat doesn't leech into adjacent systems or fail to properly radiate out from the device).
But if we actually have a room temperature superconductor now and waste heat stops being something we have to design around, how will things change?
I'm seeing no confirmation for that statement.
You got a source?
It says in an article published 17 minutes ago that there's some skeptics, but that we won't know for certain until researchers attempt to replicate their findings over the next week or two.
god i wish we went back to the Y2K scifi designs. especially video game consoles. i want my xbox to be green, glowing, and it want it to look like it dropped out of a borg cube

it reduces manufacturing costs. normies would rather pay $100 less than have some fancy RGB lighting.
Aren't they branding all of their shit as simply just Xbox now? I kind of like that idea actually since they already have long fricked up their names for the consoles so might as well just brand this shit all simply Xbox. It is way easier to understand.
We have no idea what their plan is. I assume they are trying to "reset" the brand and their next consoles will be called something like: >Xbox Series X-2 >Xbox Series S-2
Where "X" is the high-end model, and "S" is the cheaper model that can play the same games but at lower settings. And then Series X/S-3, 4 and so on.
Imo, even if this is their plan and this naming scheme will make more sense in a few generations, I still think it's moronic. Remember when the Xbox One X went sold out on Amazon, because people thought they were buying the Series X? Yeah, it's a complete mess.
Imo, they had two choices. Go back to simple numbers, like Windows did after Vista (In other words: Xbox Four / 4 / IV). Or keep coming up with cool-sounding names, like Nintendo does or SEGA used to do.
With "Series X/S" it seems they're trying to do a little bit of both... but it doesn't sound cool, AND it's confusing. They achieved the worst of both.
This is why I prefer air cooling.
It would blow my mind if a modern console got liquid cooling.
Never ever, have you seen the way most normies treat their consoles? getting knocked around and thrashed about, it's another point of failure.

They could have beat the PS4 and PSS if they used good names like Xbox 720 instead of Xbox One and Series X.
Making the Xbox One look like an old vcr player didn’t help either. Sad how people barely care about what future consoles may look like anymore since exclusives are hardly a thing and the social aspects suck nowadays.
I actually liked the dumb VCR design. Made it easy to rack mount

This is one of the biggest blunders in all of gaymen. Who the frick signed off on this?
Don Matrick
what a fricking moron
Don Mattrick heard everyone call it the 360, so he wanted people to call the next one "the one"
lol it sounded so stupid everyone just called it “Xbox” instead
This. I still have friends today ask “when the hell are they gonna make the Xbox 720?” I feel like they will never do it because they think it sounds too dude bro or unprofessional but it’s literally what we all want
The Xbox’s whole deal was appealing to the dudebros.
The PlayStations whole appeal was appealing to Black folk and cucks
I was a 360 gay but to this day the names of the latter ones confuse me
You now manually remember all the cringy PS4 and PS5 designs made by fans back in the day.
Soul.
I actually fricking love the Microsoft SPHERE designs.
Like damn I know how inefficient a sphere is in terms of electronics design but I just love the shape so much.
You have no idea how bad I miss transparent plastic and blobject designs.
I think your gamecube is sick.
Do you turn 360 twice and walk away, or turn 360 in one direction, 360 in other, and then walk away?
If you're facing it and turn 360, you'll still be facing it.

wtf??? if you turn 360 degrees you just walk forward you fricking moron
do a 360 in real life to confirm it moron, it works that way
Yes, which is Michael Jackson did a backwards moonwalk, moron.
Make it acquire spin property of electron and turn it 720(one full spin)
ITT: bad jokes from 2005
This is what the ps6 will look like in 2032
any of these are cooler than the bricks we got
even nintendo dropped the SOVL of their gamecube
You've been brainwashed into thinking different shapes of plastic are worth different amounts of money.
that makes no sense but ok
Jesus christ shut the frick up homosexual
Why do people come up with these pure garbage concept arts?
Because they want to be creative and enjoy things instead of being joyless and pretentious like you.
Because the vast majority of these "concept artists" are actually shit. Not even trying to be mean. Most of them are Indian
>Why do people come up with these pure garbage concept arts?
because news articles will use their artwork whenever speculating on upcoming consoles
that's only cool if it can follow you around the house, being tsundere trying to get you to play games on it.
>blue-ray player with stereo speakers
seems about right
Have it lean a little more into a modernized Famicom type thing and it becomes soul incarnate.
W-what does the R button do?

I can't be the only one who thinks the 1st gen DS looks cool as hell. It looked like the powerful big brother of GBA SP
All of this does make me wonder about something.

too late for that. Fun design are too kiddies nowaday.

literally every one of the designs in this thread beat the boring ass cube monolith that xbox actually shipped
if theyre gonna make souless easy to shit out systems the price should also reflect it

Impressive
Cartoons and shows meme about the spherical console but I actually want one, it would look more futuristic than more brick designs

I agree.
Minimalist design is fricking gay, soul-less shit with no aesthetic appeal or personality.
it reduces manufacturing costs. normies would rather pay $100 less than have some fancy RGB lighting.
That's because it's the sensible option. Why would I spend extra money to have a computer or console that looks like a gay flag?
not gay rbg PC shit, just a simply cool case design
i haven't owned a console since 360 though
Whoa! It's real!
720 would've been a way better name than Xbone or Xsex. What the frick were they thinking?
subliminal messaging to keep generating more dudebros
would be much more interesting console war if for next gen instead of ayyMD APU like snoys they went with ARM / NVIDIA RTX combo
>that big ass Xbox logo ruining everything
what were they thinking ???
How come Microsoft never tried to cash in on the handheld phenomenon?
this dude must have a really tiny dick to hide it behind a switch like that
Phil Spencer just bought Kojima.
