Honestly online guides ruined this type of quests. Back in the day the way this worked was you got some cryptic hint for what you were supposed to be doing, then you experimented until you got results.

People don't really miss the "grindyness" of the old relics, they miss the fact that the relics used to actually be a long term goal instead of another "just login and do your daily lmao" type of content.
They (and I) miss the exploration content the most though, Eureka and Bozja is some of the best content this game has ever seen with a surprising amount of replay value and varied fights simply thanks to the slightly deeper RPG mechanics and the better use of FATEs. If the core game had atleast 1 of those things in the open world then that would fix the issue, but the devs seems to be extremely afraid of giving players any amount of gameplay customisation or any type of challenge in anything that is even remotely connected to the MSQ. If anything IS has cemented this into my brain while Criterion and the new DD have shown me that they are also extremely afraid of PvE experimentation since both are literally just "what if we take shit that already exists and just make very minor changes to it?"

Races may as well be purely visual in this game. Hyur or Miqote if you care about having as much gear as possible look good on you, otherwise whatever you think looks cool, cute, or whatever else. Elezen animations are not for everyone, and both Viera and Hrothgar have limited access to hairstyles and displayed headgear. You get one free fantasia to change your race if you can make it through A Realm Reborn without buying a story skip.

I think it might be my single favorite piece of video game merchandize of all time, a thick, high quality book, written entirely in-world, with pages that look slightly faded for style, containing mountains of cool information about the world. One of them is the Cloud Strife hair almost nobody owns anyway, one of them is Noctis, one is the male Eternal Bonding haircut, and four of them are cash shop only haircuts tied to Scion/Aymeric outfits.
Of hairstyles you can actually acquire in game, they only have four left to add.

Heal check? Tank LB1 2nd stardust and sac the stack on the heavensfall + meteors + spread. I'd say it's harder now than in ARR because of how crippled healing and mitigation kits are at 50.

after the HW normal raids filtered 80% of the playerbase Yoshi went full frick it and made the game braindead easy. starting in stormblood raids were easier, job homogenization started, removal of TP and cross class skills, etc
difficulty aside, I think it would still lead to the same result. They added Ultimates, which are harder than most things in any game, but people still get bored out of their minds. I think it is because the grindy / social sort of events expire within one expansion, if not half an expansion. Same with rewards being a one-way power-up.
The Ultimates in EW are the hardest yet.
Nothing beats A1-8S and especially midas in difficulty. EW raids are not even harder than Alexander. In the end raiding is pointless in ff14 though. All of the gear is useless anyway. SB really killed the game in many ways by appealing to complete braindead monkeys and killing most classes because shitter tanks and healer didn't want to deal dmg.

A8S doesn't even compare to DSR. It's barely over E8S.
TP was a fricking garbage resource and actively punished any kind of stat spread that made use of skillspeed. This also meant that any and all haste buffs were actually punishing to the player, as opposed to beneficial. Giving more classes access to Goad was a bandaid fix.
It was twice as bad during dungeons because melee jobs, including tanks, burned through their TP twice as fast by simply using their AoE skill(s), and the simple act of using Sprint drained your TP entirely, meaning melee jobs got punished for that too while casters got away completely free.
TP was fricking trash and removing it was a wise decision.

That said with Adoulin almost wrapped up and the fight with Cloud of Darkness ready to go I'm almost finished with that too, the charm of continuously finding new places to explore and new things to do in XI for literal years finally dried up. There's TVR, but everything else in XI nowadays is purely based around gear progression and I'm not into the game enough for that.

I’m almost done with heavensward. It’s been so good. The slog of ARR was worth it. Best jrpg I’ve played in years. I’ve heard stormblood isn’t as good, but ahadowbringers makes up for it. That means there’s still like 90+ hours of story content to get through. I love it. I love ff xiv
stormblood has good sidecontent, make sure to do the 4 lords / tataru's grand endeavor.
I forgot that each expansion is roughly 30-40 hours plus the 20 hours of post patch content. God it makes my peenus Erebus hard just thinking about it
I agree with this guy. Stormblood's MSQ is a little awkward. Not bad, but you can clearly identify the spots in the MSQ you'd dread doing again on hindsight. The side-content is fantastic, though.

For me, it's the post-clear catharsis after finally getting through P6 without someone choking on exasquares. Makes me want to try experiencing DSR kino at some point.
Every now and then, you will just get an absolutely cursed pattern. For the most part, it's just a matter of paying attention to when the lasers go out and pre-positioning asap. Also doesn't help that it's week 5 and all the competent players are done.
Do you have any tips for the LC then, because I feel like I should save Sprint for it?
Always keep vision on the mid add to see when lasers go out. That way you're always cognizant of whose turn it is by the time it's your turn to bait lasers. And while you're waiting to bait lasers, make sure to keep micro-adjusting away from the puddles behind you so you don't clip the puddle players or get clipped by the dash. You won't need sprint but feel free to pop if it's comfy for you, since it'll at least help if you get the cursed pattern.
SB is hit or miss and the pacing is moron. Lyse is worst character and the 4 lords / tataru's stuff are great.

I like that you gloss over the fact that BLM is the most optimisation heavy job in that game. Most players who play it will ever only deal slightly more dmg than a RDM on any difficulty, as shown by the absolutely massive DPS variation between players

That doesn't disprove my point gaygit, every job in the game is designed to be as easy to learn as possible on every difficulty level with BLM pretty much being the only exception, also, there is a wild difference between BLM players on Savage to the point where your entire team sometimes have to play around "bad" ones to meet DPS and body checks. RDMs are carry machines on Normal content and almost every prog group will have atleast their first attempts done with a RDM just to limp through a fight for as long as possible before they know how to optimise their roles for the encounter.
RDM and DNC are the worst jobs right now having both in a party is a blight

I see that you barely touch any type of normal raid content outside of CT. The community is so brainrotted and coddled by the piss easy MSQ that 1/3rd of all non-CT raid runs turns to shit thanks to sandbagging/AFK'ing and/or honest to god morons that can only press 1 button at a time or that play the game as if it's running at 2 FPS and 2000 ping

make it lower instead of 130 for raids and tweak the numbers so those raids actually become raids.
The moment they become mildly challenging, the cheesers will stop, they do it because they can afk and still get carried to the end
If there is no time different between those, hw or sb raids then there is no point to cheese it

i haven't been subbed for a year i think. but ffxiv is still easily the best mmo out there. not exactly a high bar, but they set the bar high for me. shadowbringers and endwalker were legitimately 10/10.

I've been playing for around two years (started 4-5 months before Endwalker's release but took me quite a while to get into the groove). While I admit I don't have the same enthusiasm I had while doing msq I still do enjoy levelling classes and I feel like I have still quite a lot to do. I play on a casual level but I guess that when I have everything setup I might look for a FC to do harder content.
I think the game is lovely, I like the island sanctuary as a small thing you check for five minutes every day. I love all the classes. Looking for new cute clothes is fun. Occasionally going to a bar and chat with some homosexuals you become friends with and end up running content with is kino. When tired, take a small break.
Genuinely gonna just unsub for the next 6 months.

Really a big part of why savage coil was so unsuccessful was that all you got from it over doing normal coil was a title, weird how priorities shifted over the years and now according to raiders the only content that matters is the one that gives you a title

You have to do CT raids for story at some point don't you? They should just rework those into solo duty/msq roulette shit and shove them somewhere in post ARR or something. Add all the gear to a vendor for poetics and the orch rolls/pets as quest rewards for sprouts to get excited about
Yeah, the longer I've played the game, the more I have noticed how the MSQ difficulty curve has been damaging the communities overall skill floor. If they don't want to actually make people PLAY the game while they are running the MSQ then they should decouple it completely from the rest of the game. Thankfully, that is exactly what they have been doing with the trust system, ironically making the MMO less M and O is probably going to end up improving the game for everyone if the devs actually start treating the open world and player agency better
I have housing, so I'm pretty much stuck subbing. But I'm also still playing it a lot, been working on that 2k mentor roulette lately. I like running synched content, and you get some fun ones in that.
