Quest 2 lets you scan and port local scenes straight into VR. It was going to be one of the 'Meta' features to scam people into buying into the metaverse that you could be in your room, while IN YOUR ROOM, in VR.

There's nothing stopping you from using this scan in other VR Applications so that's the same scan in a room in VRChat with all the anime girls bouncing around in his bed and what is very obviously a shadow from his lamp projected onto the ceiling showing the tiny anime girl you're talking with is actually a 20 something year old dude built like a tank.

Well if your goal is to be a pop-culture buff then this is probably the most comprehensive way to get there, consoom and study as much media as you can stomach.

I mean if he is watching every episode of all these series that alone is a huge time commitment, plus it seems like he is really paying attention and studying them which is quite involved. So it's commendable just for that dedication.

        > Having recently gone back and watched Star Trek TNG after such a long time, I can relate to rediscovering retro media.

I love how TNG had a diverse cast and tons of social commentary episodes but nobody was screaming WOKE WOKE WOKE at it.

          Anonymous

Because back then "diverse casts" and "social commentary" was done in a tasteful, mature, intelligent way. You didn't acknowledge the casts were diverse because it wasn't showed into your face, and the commentary was done well and made you think a little bit.

Meanwhile today you just HAVE to be informed about all these amazing casts and how this character is black and gay, and this one is a nonbinary latinx. And the "commentary" is grade school bullshit level that just wants you to be a good boy and behave in ways the media want you to behave.

          Anonymous

Yeah TNG is quite charming with it's hokey props and technobabble but with such heartfelt and heroic characters and compassionate humanitarian philosophy morals. I saw an Ep from Season 3 where Jorde LaForge uses the holodeck to make a waifu version of a female scientist lab partner to help him save the day and also feel woman companionship, I was cracking up because now we finally have AI girlfriends and the scifi is coming true. LMAO

He also taught Data how to draw that one episode, essentially predicting AI art 35 years in advance.

          Anonymous

The strength of TNG through Enterprise is that the characters are often in conflict whereas in the newer shows they're practically finishing each other's sentences. New shows also just have terrible ideas like Khan's granddaughter fricking Kirk, a crossover with their shitty cartoon, and a musical episode justified by some quantum universe crap and not the result of Q's frickery.

Oh I'm clueless, I thought this page was the author describing how he did his research for writing the book, but it sounds like this page is from the point of view of a fictional character? Then whatever, it's pure wankery. If a real human did this then fine, but having a fictional character claim to do this is pointless and arbitrary and overblown.

One of the trials the character has to overcome in to play the role of a character in a movie scene and recite all his lines perfectly, so that part at least is relevant.

Trials of Mana, Clash Artifacts of Chaos, Darksiders 3, Psychonauts 2 and Balan Wonderworld work pretty good with it.
Hi-Fi Rush is sadly awkward and hard on the eyes due to the stylized animation and quick camera changes and Bloodstained is something that should only be done out of sheer curiosity but shows that even a metroidvania would work in VR in a Moss-esque dollhouse style.

I still have no idea if western boomers just want to lose millions, billions or trillions of dollars for fun. Social media as it is now is a dead end, what can you do? Remake instagram or twitter but change the UI? So facebook/meta have been trying to find untapped markets to find the next big boom. Pouring billions into VR development "makes sense" because if you manage to make it work you can be the major player in a cultural shift.

You need young blood or people who are not morons to do it. I could see the potential in the ideas they try to do, although a much more limited final working product, but.... the moment you start with "no rape aura around characters" is the moment BILLIONS OF DOLLARS WILL DIE.
                1. Your team needs to be the tech bros from the past - 50% white, 50% asian, 100% men.
                2. Try to create a product that is fun to use. Why would I personally consider buying a VR set? HL Alex. Not for work, but for a game. What is stopping me? Price. What I use every day at work? my phone. Make a product that can be used with phones. WHATEVER THE FRICK YOU DO, MAKE IT FUN!!! VR items for sale as NTFs can work... but I need fun.
                3. stop looking at Ready Player One - it is impossible with current tech. All I can think of is apps for mobile phones with VR integration that can still be used without it.
                4. Maybe invest less money in projects that look too risky.
                5. He could even make a Twitter but fun with VR Support. JUST NO WOKE BULLSHIT ZUCKERBERG!

I think it comes from how egotistical people are. They hate the idea of a future where there isn't a "them" in it. Rather than enjoying experience, they enjoy forcing themself into other people's experiences. Most people are just secretly narcissists.

    >NFTs
    scam that already flopped
    >AI
mostly used for generating slop, memes, porn, or used by blackrock to manipulate the stock market
    >VR
many people can't even afford food right now, they're not gonna buy overpriced VR gear
    >metaverse
    complete and utter flop

It needs to be protected to idiot-proof the thing. Normies don't like running into technical problems.

Some executive at Microsoft talk to their zoomer son about all this fancy new tech and decided to make the worst possible combination of all of them years after they were relevant.

why do they suck at naming things? It's so fricking annoying to hear the word verse so lazily attached to everything I'm so tired of it just give it a real name ffs

    >standalone headsets can barely power Xbox-360 level of visuals
    >PCVR users who can handle modern graphics are a minority due to GPU demands
Shit is still a waste of investor money at present until standalone headsets are vastly more powerful, and cheaper to acquire so people actually have it. Otherwise you may as well make a normal phone game that has no issue running at15-20fps.

      >standalone headsets can barely power Xbox-360 level of visuals
If they're running at high resolutions and 90fps wouldn't that be fine?

Not when the texture filtering goes to shit from 10ft away making things look PS2-era at times despite the polygon count present. Or the complete lack of anything dynamic in the scene, from interactive objects, to lighting.

Well on Quest 3 at least the texture filtering seems fine and more games support stuff like dynamic shadows.

How will you be able to "own" anything in the metaverse? Will it all just be on WB's servers? How is that a metaverse then?

Or is a metaverse just some social lobby where you can't take anything with you? What happens when WB gets tired of it and sunsets the project and your account?

I believe in a metaverse but it has to come about in a decentralized way. This isn't it. We're not ready for one yet, the tech isn't there just yet, and people aren't ready for it. The Metaverse can't exist if it's just some corporate account. You all know what is needed for it to exist, but you're too craven to say it.

How is VRC a metaverse? Is the metaverse just some lobby where you faff about and talk with others, maybe play some awkward minigames?

In RPO the metaverse was literally a place with actual danger, where you could be killed and lose all your account's stuff. It had real rewards to win. Sex wasn't something that could get you banned. VRC has none of that. It's just a chatroom, as the name implies.

Yeah I'd say VR Chat is.. a chat room. It's a modern version of stuff people attempted back in the 90s. The more these giant conglomerates hype up stuff like in the OP the more I think VR Chat is about as far as we should go.

I can't take any morons talking about big scale VR or some shit like "metaverse" seriously
if you've ever used VR you should immediately know that while its a fun toy its just that, not only is this shit impossible from technological standpoint its also not going to be nearly popular enough to get big
maybe if we get to the point where VR costs 50 bucks and anyone even poorer people can get one(and you can run stuff using a low end PC) then we can actually talk about it

Immersive stuff will not be fun until it's full body immersion on a treadmill but that isn't cost effective

I dunno anon i see poor people with i phones all the time is just that VR is never gonna be a product that appeals to normal people

NFTs wouldn't even be so bad if they did them right.
I mean look how much CS2 Skins go for, if each of them is basically an NFT, I bet they even individually address them on the back end.
The real question is how will they handle the trading market? Are they going to tax and dip into all trades, or let people do what they really want?
Imagine the IRS claiming a video game item as part of your net worth and assets, cancer incarnate.

So what's the recommended VR headset to get? I kinda want to get the PS VR2 but that only works with playstation unless there's a way to hack it to make it work on PC
