The first game wasn't even particularly good or interesting, at least to me. It felt pretty clunky all-around and didn't take advantage of the licenses/character that effectively. I'm a bit surprised they're doing another one, and so soon, while continuing to do nothing really special with it.

Now that everyone knows the whole roster, there's nothing else to discuss. It's not like anyone was going to play the second game after the first one sucked so much.
Part of it is that roster doesn't offer that many interesting characters. They won't use live action characters so that rules out a bunch of shows, and they don't have legal access to Fairy Odd Parents which means all of those characters are out.
There's also certain roster restrictions that limits things. Danny Phantom can only have two reps? Why? Why that arbitrary limitation?
Additionally there's been so much focus on the characters from the materials they've presented that we know little else about the game. It would be nice if they highlighted the stages or items from time to time so there's more variety.
9 times out of 10 when they blame shit on nick i'm convinced they're talking straight out of their ass, or at least exaggerating how strict they really are
Objectively wrong, they were mandated to use a specific Danny Phantom model. They've spoken on wanting to prove it and only now in the sequel without as much Nick control are they able to do it.
Whether or not they're bullshitting, part of the problem is that they don't have an underlying art style to base things on. Outside of extreme outliars like Steven and Finn, the proportions for the Multiversus roster make sense even with characters like Taz or Gizmo. They're about as high/short big/small as you'd expect them to be relative to each other. NASB2 meanwhile looks like they modeled the characters without any consideration of how they'd look standing next to each other.
and smash has never cut entire series representation unless it was due to hardware limitations (ice climbers on 3ds) or third party frickery (snake/konami)

I don't think Ludosity is up to the task. I think Slap City is great and there are very good odds this plays great but its clear to me that they don't understand how to use this IP or build hype around a game that's so heavily roster based. Cutting so many characters, the god awful scaling of the characters, the quick transition to notable pose bullshit. They're good game designers but games like this just show me Sakurai is #1 for a reason.
The devs are snobs who think their shovelware fighting game mechanics stand among the greats like Dark Souls. Can't stand that one dev that's posting shit all the time.
I still think they can turn this shit around despite Warner Bros killing itself from the inside. It's a matter of adding new modes, picking smart character choices, and having the buzz continue decently enough. If Nickelodeon could make a comeback with less prestige, this can too.
It sucks Multiversus was mishandled and had poor roster decisions because I fricking love LeBron James and his whole Moveset, it completely mogs any JRPG Swordfighter you see in Smash.

Nobody in this thread is saying that. We are just sick and tired of people saying Ultimate is the "Perfect" game and everything else sucks compared to it.
I enjoy Ultimate, but it honestly could've used one more year of development time and I think this applies to Melee as well.
In terms of everything else, if you ask me, only Rivals of Aether has really succeeded in standing out on its own if you ask me, and I do partially attribute it to the game being very mod-friendly, I think workshop support has helped that game carve out its niche.
NASB and Multiversus aren't doomed concepts on paper, but it's clear that the head companies do not give a shit beyond making quick money, and in the case of the former, the devs are trying too hard to chase the Slippi/Project M audience instead of trying to focus on just making a game that appeals to people who like Nickelodeon cartoons. Multiversus's devs definitely cared more about focusing on the crossover aspect and fanservice, but they were being held back by WB forcing shit like Black Adam and Space Jam on them (not to mention the whole fiasco with the WB-Discovery merger.)
In my eyes, it's not that Ultimate (or Smash in general) is "perfect", it's more that most other platform fighters are made by people that could care less about really trying. It's been a problem for over a decade, considering you have PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale as the poster boy for this kind of thing. PSASBR could've been a legitimate competitor game to Smash, but Sony gave zero shits about the project beyond quick cash, and as a result you had gameplay that wasn't fully thought out and glaring absences from the game's cast because the company Sony licensed the game out to literally could not afford certain third-party demands.
No one is saying NASB2 is better than Smash, nothing is topping Ultimate. This game however has its own flavor and branding so it can stand on its own. It may borrow from Smash a ton, but in the same rite Smash also borrows a ton from KOF which hey waddaya know it’s in Smash now.
Let us enjoy our Nickelodeon fighting game while you can continue playing the Nintendo fighting game.

Rostergays are cancer 90% of the time but this is a rare MvCI situation where the devs just made bad decisions. This game sadly looks pretty fun and I hope it gets its chance but I really can't blame people for losing interest when 11 characters were cut. All choices that would be fine or even great if more of the foundation was still around.

A better analogy would be Jump Ultimate Stars, and that game is fondly remembered as one of the best games on the console because it prioritized representing most of WSJ.
Unironically the fault of the execs, NASB and (to a lesser extent) Multiversus were being paraded by media as "THE SMASH KILLER" like it's an old Sega console ad, and at least in the case of Nick, that doomed it to be compared to Smash even more than it would've normally, and when the game came out it ended up being underwhelming in terms of expectations, which only further fuelled mockery following the whole "SMASH KILLER" debacle.
On the flipside, I've never really seen Smash fans start shit with Rivals of Aether fans, and I'm absolutely sure it's because Rivals was trying to fulfill different goals than Smash and was being honest about it.
Because 99% of smash players are casual players, and all of these smash clones are made for compgays. Look at Multiversus and NASB. NSAB didn't even launch with items. Assist trophies could help give some representation to characters that weren't playable. Multiversus literally only had online and no singleplayer content. Compgays in these threads are annoying as frick because they expect everyone else to take their nickelodeon fighting game super seriously.

It's a beat en up with platforming elements though, not a platformer. You can't even kill most enemies by jumping on them and there are tons of sections that stop the screen and require you to beat everyone to advance.
Reminds me of how I see people saying Brawl is the best Smash game for it's amazing single-player, yet they fail to mention how the gameplay feels like youre fighting underwater. I'm a casual singleplayer guy, and even I hate that shit

Ultimate's buffer is annoying and it's valid to not like it for that reason. But most will never notice it so you shouldn't be surprised. Even the people who do notice it find that Ultimate has enough going for it to overlook the shitty buffer. Multiversus was based for allowing you to customize your own input buffer, but that didn't save that game.

Part of it is that roster doesn't offer that many interesting characters. They won't use live action characters so that rules out a bunch of shows, and they don't have legal access to Fairy Odd Parents which means all of those characters are out.
There's also certain roster restrictions that limits things. Danny Phantom can only have two reps? Why? Why that arbitrary limitation?
Additionally there's been so much focus on the characters from the materials they've presented that we know little else about the game. It would be nice if they highlighted the stages or items from time to time so there's more variety.

Objectively wrong, they were mandated to use a specific Danny Phantom model. They've spoken on wanting to prove it and only now in the sequel without as much Nick control are they able to do it.
Whether or not they're bullshitting, part of the problem is that they don't have an underlying art style to base things on. Outside of extreme outliars like Steven and Finn, the proportions for the Multiversus roster make sense even with characters like Taz or Gizmo. They're about as high/short big/small as you'd expect them to be relative to each other. NASB2 meanwhile looks like they modeled the characters without any consideration of how they'd look standing next to each other.

I think Slap City is great and there are very good odds this plays great but its clear to me that they don't understand how to use this IP or build hype around a game that's so heavily roster based. I enjoy Ultimate, but it honestly could've used one more year of development time and I think this applies to Melee as well.
In terms of everything else, if you ask me, only Rivals of Aether has really succeeded in standing out on its own if you ask me, and I do partially attribute it to the game being very mod-friendly, I think workshop support has helped that game carve out its niche.
NASB and Multiversus aren't doomed concepts on paper, but it's clear that the head companies do not give a shit beyond making quick money, and in the case of the former, the devs are trying too hard to chase the Slippi/Project M audience instead of trying to focus on just making a game that appeals to people who like Nickelodeon cartoons. Multiversus's devs definitely cared more about focusing on the crossover aspect and fanservice, but they were being held back by WB forcing shit like Black Adam and Space Jam on them (not to mention the whole fiasco with the WB-Discovery merger.)
In my eyes, it's not that Ultimate (or Smash in general) is "perfect", it's more that most other platform fighters are made by people that could care less about really trying. It's been a problem for over a decade, considering you have PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale as the poster boy for this kind of thing. PSASBR could've been a legitimate competitor game to Smash, but Sony gave zero shits about the project beyond quick cash, and as a result you had gameplay that wasn't fully thought out and glaring absences from the game's cast because the company Sony licensed the game out to literally could not afford certain third-party demands.

This game sadly looks pretty fun and I hope it gets its chance but I really can't blame people for losing interest when 11 characters were cut. All choices that would be fine or even great if more of the foundation was still around.

Unironically the fault of the execs, NASB and (to a lesser extent) Multiversus were being paraded by media as "THE SMASH KILLER" like it's an old Sega console ad, and at least in the case of Nick, that doomed it to be compared to Smash even more than it would've normally, and when the game came out it ended up being underwhelming in terms of expectations, which only further fuelled mockery following the whole "SMASH KILLER" debacle.
On the flipside, I've never really seen Smash fans start shit with Rivals of Aether fans, and I'm absolutely sure it's because Rivals was trying to fulfill different goals than Smash and was being honest about it.

SSE is literally the most dogshit platforming experience I've ever had, would rather play Sonic 4 than SSE ever agian.
It's a beat en up with platforming elements though, not a platformer. You can't even kill most enemies by jumping on them and there are tons of sections that stop the screen and require you to beat everyone to advance.
