It's not so bad if the gacha lasts a long time and you get bored of it but this one isn't even old lol.

More like you are paying SUBSTANTIALLY MORE MONEY for less gameplay EVERY. SINGLE. TIME. In a gacha

That's why when I see people spending in a pay to win game like Lost Ark or BDO I just think meh if they're rich it's literally cope to tell them they're moronic to do so.
The hook for those games is usually a genuinely great game locked behind absurd homosexual shit you need to spend to bypass.

Gacha is just always pure unironic dog shit. Genshin is 5% of breath of the wild, every single part is inferior and yes I put 60 hours into it and even got lucky and got Xiao for absolutely free but the game SUCKS IT IS FRICKING TERRIBLEEEE IT'S A SHITTY STORY + KOROK SEEDS THAT IS LITERALLY IT.

You know, they could go the Mega Man X Dive offline route. Repackage it to be a full game for purchase. You get double the money from the gacha and some after it's been shutdown after making the most money you could. Sounds like a win-win strategy.

Only works when the games are actual games that have some sort of play value even when offline, outside of a glorified slot machine and a jpeg collection. Most are just autobattlers.

Yeah, that ended up being what made me drop Reincarnation around the end of I guess the end of the first main story arc (before the schoolboy/schoolgirl story started). DHIL and Ratio are completely different types of characters with completely different teams tbh. DHIL is probably stronger as well, and has a dedicated support coming out within a few months. I assume you are reading f2p cope posts about ratio being a god of damage or something. In reality he is very mediocre unless you already had another character (Topaz) to pair him with.
JL is still the best DPS by a lot.

        Anonymous

At least with gambling like blackjack and using basic strategy, long term you only lose around 15% of the money you use for gambling. Learning a little bit of card counting, might bring you to zero or profit. There's also other skill based gambling, especially ones that don't depend on a casino that are way more fun and have the potential to bring in money as well. In JPEG collector games, you waste all the money you spend and they steal your collection once they shut down.

To avert "You will own nothing", you must incentivize the ability to community host everything.
If necessary you should be able to run all of the infrastructure yourself.
Corporations are incentivized to shut things down, there is no cost-benefit analysis that will reveal that keeping a server online indefinitely will yield profit.

This is one of the reasons why I've been so hesitant on building a golfing simulator for myself. There are barely any fully offline options, and the ones that exist cost thousands of dollars. Meanwhile you can get into it for as little as 300 bucks, but everything is online based and if you want more course options, you have to get a subscription.
I wonder if there's a big enough intersection between FOSS programmers and golf nuts to build up a free open source software with no login requirements at some point.

The high off of getting the SSR want only lasts like a couple of minutes, maybe a bit more if it's a meta unit or card or whatever. By the time it wears off you don't even care you have it, and by the time a game closes up shop you're probably not even playing it anymore.

You're not wrong, but the bigger picture paints an even worse situation. People be throwing money for dopamine hits that lasts like 5 minutes and then they do it a hundred times more until they get bored. That's why mobile shit is completely dominating the vidya market.

What kind of absolute loser do you have to be to defend "you should be happy not owning your games"?

        >life isnt about owning things
This would be a reasonable argument from a Buddhist or someone with a similar moral framework. Because when they discuss it, it's about the transience of being and how nothing can be preserved. It's not about making things as transient as possible, it's about accepting reality.
Meanwhile gatchagays like you are slaves to their desire and spend significant time and money trying to get what they want in a video game. The transience of your fake possessions also isn't an inevitability of reality, it's a choice made by a company that is trying to rob you blind, just like all the shit with subscriptions for things you used to be able to own.
        You are fricking moronic.

This is the reason why gachagays are some of the most tribal homosexuals out there. If their game of choice shows even a slight hint of losing popularity, they go full doomer mode and flip out. Other gachas eat away their players and revenue so they become their enemies. This is one reason why the most popular gachas also have the most haters. The hopelessness in the GBF general back when Genshin came out was insane. 3 years later and they still get mad if you mention the g-word. And they were already losing hard to FGO even before hoyo came around.

Cage is on the moon and is the archive for Humanities data.
Cage is run by 10-H and her Pod.
Angels/The Watchers are attacking the cage to wipe out what's left of Humanity.
It's actually a different timeline to Automata and a timeline where the Machines won and proceeded to control all of Earth building their own Kingdom.
Final Chapter is about the main cast going to earth to defeat the Watchers from killing what remains of Humanity.
There's probably 10 different timelines involved in the main plot.

Is the Cage literally the server or a weird metaphysical dimension to it?

          Cage is literally the server.
Although Earth also looks like the Cage for some reason that'll get explained in the final chapter.
As for the bandaged girl. That's Fio. She's a bottom class of her timeline, a Goat Person who's job is to exist to get shit on by the slightly less bottom class. The poors.
She's apparently gonna be important in the final chapter.

Can one of you Black folk that played this gay gacha shit confirm if it's actually just a completely different timeline? If it is, it is safe to ignore, since it doesn't at all concern the timeline in Automata.

I've played it and am still playing it to the final so I'll tell you what the last chapter lore dropped.
The timeline where Reincarnation's main plot takes place is a timeline where the Machines actually managed to invade physically the bunker on the moon, even after infecting them with the Virus. 2B presumably dies in this timeline in the Bunker as 10-H finds data of her sword there, which corrupts her with the machine virus.
Once YorHA were defeated, the Machines then set out to explicitly wipe out all Android resistance on Earth all across the world. Proceeding to build their own Kingdom afterwards, which is presumably the current state of Earth.

Additionally, the game then proceeds to already bring in multiple timelines into it's plot, where it's heavily implied that Accord is popping around different timelines and gathering genetic dater of Humanity for the cage. Thanks to there being two versions of the siblings Yuzuki and Hina in the game. Their base versions which are from a timeline where Angelus is never shot down and WCS doesn't happen. And a timeline where they're apart of the Crusaders and Yuzuki becomes Red Eyes.

Aside from that, everything from Drakengard ending E up until route C of Automata seems canon to the Reincarnation main timeline.

Hold up, now, the Bunker is (was?) the YoRHA headquarters, while the Moon server was a completely separate thing, or do you mean that there was sort of an outpost of actual YoRHA units ON the Moon guarding the server? Also, what about the Kingdom of the Night, were Accord herself was built and that has never been explored? Also also, why is it explained why Accord is gathering more genetic data in/for The Cage specifically? I assume the Accord that is doing so is from a timeline where the Moon server is still intact..

              Anonymous

The Bunker was/is YoRHa headquarters. As for the moon server/cage, that was safely for the most part in the outpost 10-H was on the moon, until Yuzuki and Hina get tricked into letting the Watchers further gain access to the Moon Server by connecting the server to a server the Watchers already have access to and spreading the machine virus.
As for Accord, she doesn't show up much as usual with the Nier stuff, it's just said she's running about and collecting data. The Cage itself is supposed to be a storage system to retain what's left of Humanity, it's genetic data, etc etc. So one day they can come back and that's apart of the reason why the Watchers are attacking the Cage/Server.

                Anonymous

the characters do mention her and we outright see her in Yudil's story, and one of the hidden stories confirms she makes the weapons but the pod is killed before he can say why she makes them.

                Anonymous

Yeah, she does get referenced and you do see her, my mistake there I should've clarified. Just to the over-all story, she doesn't have the largest of impact on the main story going forward, but that could easily change next chapter.

Shit, ok, I missed the part where the actual Watchers were attacking the server, interesting. So perhaps Accord is trying to find a timeline where they are not tricked into opening a backdoor and gathering more data as she goes, then? Several things like the Watchers tattoo on Eve, the N2 girls using data from the Forest of Myth supercomputer, the Machine Arc, I expected to be part of the plot, but not this, fascinating. Then again, since the FoM computer technically only contains data to create Replicants, it's probably not useful for the purposes of the Cage... Hmm. Man, I used to have this theory that Automata is a prequel in the sense that Accord was created to find the one thread where humanity does NOT go extinct, and giving humans dragons and magic is the only way they can prevent the flower/watchers from appearing, but somehow it went wrong, so the Cathedral city was sent over from the future into the Drakengard 3 era, but it contained the Flower because future YoRHA (? ) could not destroy it and they hoped humanity would find a way to do so until the time of NieR, but it never works out.. Turns out my insane schizo theory from after finishing Automata might not be as insane as I thought.

Basically from as far as I can tell rereading over the plot. The Cage system is very much the last ditch attempt after the Gestalt project to try and bring back Humanity. Hence the need likely to jump around multiple timelines to find genetic data to fill up the servers of the cage. It's also the in universe justification for the character costumes, being genetic data of other possible timelines and endings to the cast. Presumably the plan is then to repopulate what ever timeline they manage to beat the Watchers in with this genetic data.

Okay, this is legit very interesting, which makes it being confined to a shitty gacha that's permanently being deleted soon all that much worse. Frick's sake, man. More Accord, the fricking Watchers and Moon server, and they lock it behind trash..

The bunker was always YoRHA headquarters. The false council of humanity exists in multiple servers but the main one is actually under the sea. The moon server has a Yorha and pod guarding the Yorha member doesn't know what she's really guarding (and gets mind wiped if she does).
The Kingdom of Night is destroyed shortly after Accord is born (imo her birth is the cause but I have no proof other than it being poetic). Remember the city that appears out of nowhere in D3 that's the City that created Accord it gets fricked and Teleported to an alternate timeline as part of the loop.

Accord is still doing her thing of looking for a way for man kind to survive. She collects data from alternate timelines to try to find a way for all Mankind to prosper but humans in Nier just seem destined to get fricked.

The game also implies Accord is Manager of the Cage (something which gets people killed when they accidentally allude to it) which would make her Mama/The Pods boss but the novel says Mama works for the council so it implies Accord is also part of the Yorha council.

Where is it stated that the Kingdom of Night is destroyed? In Reincarnation? Because I don't remember this from any supplemental materials, hmm. What was the "Council of Humanity", again? Just a fake signal transmitter, right? I know the actual genetic data is on the Moon, which is where, as far as I can gather from comments here, The Cage also is (in a way), but there never was an actual "council of humanity", just a few YoRHA androids who knew humans were long extinct. I recall Accord is created somewhere around the 6200s. We don't know if, say, Commander White was created anywhere near that time, but let's say both Accord and certainly Commander White and certain other YoRHA androids (who?) are part of a bigger "council" that have this "Cage" plan. is it explained why they wouldn't just change their mission to assisting Accord and guarding the server openly and instead create and sabotage the YoRHA project themselves? Also, which novel are you talking about where it's revealed "Mama" is part of the YoRHA council?

Nope. SE/Taro needs to realize that Automata was a flash in the bottle, a game that was only successful because it released at the right time due to Platinum being at their peak popularity and tons of free promotion by popular ecelebs like Derpixon. Going with a gacha instead of making every single Nier/Drakengard game available on modern systems is a idiotic decision, as gachas are expected to die within 1-4 years unless it's a popular IP like Fate or Dragon Ball.

What I don't understand is why most gachas don't go the Megaman XDive route. The game was ass, but making an offline versions was probably a no brainer, they simply added a menu that lets you activate seasonal events kek.

      Anonymous

They probably haven't developed the games to be able to do that. xdive was originally designed as a front end to launch X remakes, but capcom reneged on the deal and the devs never even got maverick hunter out, so that very modular design of the content was super easy to fix up for an offline launch.
Other games don't really support that, especially when they're as busted as most gacha are where endgame units will let you sleep through 99.999999999999999999999999% of content.

      Anonymous

I feel like that wouldn't go over well for most average gachas.
Imagine being the kind of the sad pathetic bastard that spends hundreds of dollars a month on these types of games so they can play and build up their waifu and get to flaunt to other players how much they spent on that girl. These gays already send death threats to developers over girls having the faintest hint of interaction with the opposite sex. Imagine the rage when they see that everyone can pay a single $20-$30 fee to get what they already spent thousands for and more.

As if any of the failures who sink major amounts of money into gachas would have the balls or physical condition to carry out their threats. The only reason not to dab on them on your way out is the hope you might keep exloiting their moronation with your next jpg slot machine too.

        Anonymous

the answer is more simple than that. they want you to move onto their next gachas, giving you an offline version of the old one might make it so you don't try out the new one.

      Anonymous

Because look at the numbers. Only 1k reviews, 180 people playing it right now. It flopped.

        Anonymous

What does that matter? Giving people the ability to play the game even after the service ends is a practice all gachas should adopt, no matter how good or bad the game is.
Those 180 people are enjoying themselves, and you can't take that away from them with your popularity-number obsession.
Even if no more content were to be added to an offline version of the game, new and old people alike could still play the game, and the most important about a game is being able to fricking play it. This can't be said about majority of modern online games. Once the central server shuts down, the game is unplayable permanently.

          Anonymous

Doesn't matter what you think anon. Those numbers I previously posted gets evaluated by the shareholders inside the company who makes these kind of games. If they determine that it wasn't worth all the resources to make offline mode for their to be soon shutdown gacha game then they won't do it. That's how cold and soulless are inside these companies.

            Anonymous

Those numbers are AFTER the game has ultimately died and squeezed dry any possible incomine. It's just an end of life plan so that old players have something to play and new players can experience all the content that has been made up to that point.
Making an offline version of a game takes 1-2 days at most to implement and costs fricking nothing, this has been discussed to death, it's just companies being absolute scumbags and incredibly lazy.

Japanese made gachas some how became one of the worst offenders in the entire genre never evolving past the years old ".JPG collector" sterotype. Most of them are idle clickers cashing in on an established IP to pump and dump.

Almost all of the innovation and f2p friendliness has come from Korean and Chinese made gachas that make them half way legitimate games. Maybe needing to build up their own original IPs from scratch force them to give at least a single frick about quality instead of just coasting on an anime or vidya franchise to milk.

such a shame because it actually brought up backstories for that mermaid and harpy lady from Legend of Mana that got scrapped (probably for the best since the ending was bittersweet) and there was another with Crimson Wizard confronting his future self and being friends with angela at the time. Oh and the Scorpion army isn't even as dangerous. they're literally doronojo and company. the christmas event was their last appearance. they should have released summer risez, but instead they did pirates? sometimes the game tends to crash and this was really obvious in the endgame where the boss healthbar was so lengthy it took 30 minutes to beat it. Gacha garbage is so frustrating. Can anyone tell me if this is worthwhile if it was a hacked/single player sort of thing much like Hogwarts Mystery is a decent game under the mobile grindathon shit so with a modded APK or better yet that Unity based engine port, you can just play as you wish.

Limbus Company, that Octopath gacha, Magic Awakened, this Nier thing, hell even Genshin..some of these may be worth it if it wasn't for being gacha garbage. At least when they shut down does that mean that someone can basically download and mod the "finished" game into a single player experience or something?

Most likely not. All of these gacha games phone to the main server every couple of seconds to prevent cheating and offline play.
You can name on one hand the number of gachas that were converted to offline after shutting down.

        Anonymous

Oh, I know what you mean officially. It would be smart for them to do that, but there are "cracked" APKs of many games (I remember how LuckyPatcher used to work on many of them) that would essentially intercept certain calls, generate limitless amount of premium currency, play offline etc.

Though they'd be smart to make a cheap, officially supported offline or at least non-gacha version, released for PC as well provided they kept it in the $15-20 range they'd do well from a new audience.

      Anonymous

the problem is gacha shit infests all parts of the game's design, I played limbus early on for instance, so I can't say anything about story content past chapter 3, but even then the game already suffers greatly because of its design

the story had this meandering quality to it where they each have to travel and plop down to a specific corner of the world to focus on a specific character and their backstory as they're hunting down the specific mcguffins

it doesn't feel like a story that's being told with their own goals or proper themes at the forefront, I won't say they're nonexistent, but they're secondary to the more "practical" real world goals of extracting money from the fanbase, so each chapter has that drab annoying feel of a bunch of fights with boring nameless mooks and pointless filler scenes because they must have "content" in the game, and developments happen at a glacial pace because it must be a "forever" game to make as much money as possible, until inevitably the EOS hits and they either rush out some bullshit or just let the game die unfinished

but I get it, having it for preservation purposes is at the very least preferable than just reading about it on some wiki or watching some random video, I'm just trying to illustrate how the gacha ends up ruining a lot more than mere gameplay or balance, even the story which many people like you claim are the only redeemable parts of many of these games, ends up being sub par or mediocre at best because of these limitations

        Anonymous

Oh no you're absolutely right. SHitty monetization affects gameplay design. There are thousands of examples and why the very concept of the gacha or item mall shit being poisonous. i can remember how the Middle Earth Shadow of War example was particularly instructive. At launch even its "gold" edition was designed to encourage people buying essentially lootboxes to get the "good" orcs for your army and similar gacha pulls. When the Definitive Edition overhauled it and turned it into a decent game, it wasn't just taking away the buying, they had to changed the drop rates and other content/grind etc..to ensure that the game was made for a no-gacha/lootbox situation.

Having a game just ported for preservation would be good, but if they actually went through and overhaul'd some of the stupid shit because of gacha monetization that affects other game elements that would help. Though they probaby can't fix everything without making changes to the story from what you say, it would be nice to see them at least make an attempt and claim its a new overhauled and expanded version sold as a complete game.

Why do gachahaters pretend that this doesn't happen to every single online game ever made?

Because they love to pretend private servers let you play old online games

Though I'd love if some dead gachas gave you offline mode with infinite currency (or no gacha at all) for $5 because I'd love to replay some of the stories in them.

        Anonymous

The reason they don't bother with that is because most of the time there is no game to replay in the first place. Take away the circlejerking community from a gacha and there'd be no reason to play one. The game, the story, the characters are the hooks, but other players that you get to laugh at when they don't get what they rolled for is what makes them stick around.

As far as I remember there isn't anything that graphically explicit and the sexual deviancy parts are mostly implied. I don't really believe it would be too obscene, and even then, it's not like they would make it anything more than an cheap outsourced AA release. If Replicanti 1.22 sold enough I think Drakengard could do it too with a little bit of marketing, but I'm no sales expert. What is baffling is that they still haven't even made a simple sequel to Automata, I don't get it.

It's never represented that explicitly no, but the implication of feelings of incest, pedophilia and then there's the child eating woman. I also don't think the mission where you to have to kill a bunch of child soldiers would make it in. I'd love to see it remastered but I'm not confident things wouldn't be cut out entirely.
          >What is baffling is that they still haven't even made a simple sequel to Automata, I don't get it.
Yeah I'm not sure why they haven't exploited that success, seems right up SE's alley to do so. I know Taro has said he doesn't want to do sequels/the same thing, but I'd at least have expected a new Nier game.

Not surprising, somehow the gacha games Yoko Taro is involved in are all boring garbage - yes, even by gacha game standards. I dropped the one he did before that one (which was similar in some ways) quickly and at release of NieR Reincarnation played through all the available content at the time just because it was NieR and some of the little stories were nice, but man became the mechanical flaws apparent and I've seen auto-battle gameplay more exciting from 2D gacha games that were already many years old at the time. Most of the time all there is to these games is collecting characters you like and watch them do cool shit, so there is nothing more deflating than watch them do basic glowing attacks and their ultimate being a slightly bigger basic glowing attack.

I just don't get whose idea it was to make this some kind of shitty autobattler where all you do is farm the same stage 100 times per event. I hope Ever Slop dies just as quickly. Even by gacha game standards, games like this are scraping the bottom of the barrel.

I played the game almost every day until last summer, I got top 5 in some arena seasons with a completely F2P account and I could beat basically every PvE encounter at the highest difficulty without any issues. It was incredibly generous for F2P and they even buffed old units to stay competitive with new powercrept versions.
The biggest issue with the game was the lack of PC version, long loadtimes, unresponsive UI and poor performance. Most of these could probably be fixed with a better phone, but I did hear others complain about it regularly enough to think that the game was just too demanding for most user's hardware. Emulation on PC's was also bad in my experience.
Some of the higher end PvE content was also tedious to complete, often having you battle in equipment loadouts for 30minutes, watching menu transitions and then completely decimate the fight itself in autobattle in a couple of minutes.
The story, music and presentation were all top notch and I'm a little surprised it survived for this long since it had a tiny playerbase

For me, it ran best on an iPad weirdly enough. Far less crashes and down times than on a phone and load times/overall performance was smoother than on PC.

The sad part of this is that all of the major lore implications for Drakengard and Nier will be lost. Factually only a small number of Niergard fans played Rein since it's a mobile gacha and they simply do not like that style of game or overlooked it because...it's a mobile gacha. Now that the game is EOS, all of this story and lore is going to be lost forever and consigned to various obscure Youtube channels at best.

Making Rein a core part of the Nierverse was a huge mistake from the get go and Yoko Taro was a fool for doing that. The devs surely knew from the start that this game wasn't going to last. I can only hope that they repurpose everything into a new game because giving it the Kingdom Hearts treatment (more than they already have) and assuming the player knows all the various bits of information from tens of different sources would be cancerous. Especially as this one is going to be unavailable.

Nier Replicant was spawned from what's essentially the joke ending of DoD by Taro's own admittance. You'd know this if you actually played DoD since Endings A and B provided a more suitably thematic ending for the main story. You really think a singular streamlined timeline dictates what's canon in this franchise?

          Anonymous

It was never a joke ending as far as I remember reading, and I have played Drakengard 1. The side story novel has a different ending altogether as well. I meant that if it's entirely self-contained "what if", I can skip it if it has no bearing on the main story, since there are objective canon endings that leads into the story going from Drakengard 3 to Automata. That's why you can safely skip Drakengard 2, for example. As other Anons explained, it's not completely "separated" in the way I thought.

            Anonymous

It was a joke ending. They didn't have the budget to crank up the "gotcha" so they kept the Watcher to a blank slate and wrote around that. DoD3's entire premise of idols turning into world-destroying entities was spawned from that very concept of the original joke ending they had in mind.

            >As other Anons explained, it's not completely "separated" in the way I thought.
Rein might be its own divergent timeline but it's divergent in the sense that DoD3 concluded and died in a timeline of its own that's independent of anything Nier-related just to wrap up its story. Besides Rein having its own story, it also gave us a better look at the logistics of the whole deal with humanity's moon server after Replicant/Automata. Hell it finally gave us stories of humans fighting monsters spawned from the White Chlorination Syndrome which Yoko Taro was showing off on Twitter when it dropped.

Drakengard 3 had an ending E, which directly leads into Drakengard 1, though, what do you mean? Paths A-D died out, yes, and the Flower was temporarily "contained" in the last game branch, but Ending E is the canon thing that makes the story of Drakengard 1 happen.

It's like they looked at Ico and the last guardian and made the cage based on it but turned it into a walking simulator where you're blocked by auto battle fences. The combat is just semi turn based match the elemental weakness and push the ex skills at the right time to get big multipliers in damage. The actual game part just fricking blew dude.

On the plus side I never spent money as I was just enjoying the story so I lost nothing.

It's always disappointing to hear about a game shutting down, especially for fans of the NieR series. While we ponder the future of NieR and the potential collaborations featuring 2B, have you considered exploring a unique and upcoming game called Palworld?

Palworld has been gaining attention for its innovative gameplay that combines creature collecting, combat, and simulation elements. It's a breath of fresh air in the gaming world, offering a different experience compared to traditional titles. The vibrant open world and the strategic use of creature companions set Palworld apart, providing a captivating journey for players.

So, as we reflect on the current state of the NieR series, why not shift our focus to the potential excitement and possibilities that Palworld could bring to the gaming community? It might be just the thing to spark new enthusiasm and provide a fresh and enjoyable gaming experience. What are your thoughts on exploring the world of Palworld?

Taro games starting with replicant have the same broken storytelling as Kingdom Hearts which both blue ball their fans forcing them to play garbage entries to get a sliver of story continuation. Is it simply the withholding that gives the story more intrigue or is there some formula to the story that give it appeal? Anyone experienced other media with the same formula?

      Anonymous

So wait if the whole thing is an AU, doesn't that make it pointless?

When your whole world is built on timelines and multiple endings and branches. Being an alternate universe where you may win is as canon as you might as well be. Because the true timeline is hardly consistent and it's just a bunch of key events that happen in multiple branches

No, because as we discussed already, there is a character in the universe whose specific purpose is to go to different timelines, she has existed since Drakengard 3. And the events in this ARE related to the actual universe. I asked the same question.

I know people won't like me saying this because we're in a hardcore fan thread, I mean we're talking about a gacha garbage entrt after all, but I don't think it's nowhere a big a deal as people like to imply

I think this anon alluded to this earlier in the thread when people were overemphasizing the importance of this side shit

      >Drakengard 2 is in it's own timeline now than ending A for no reason
This is because Taro didn't work on 2.
      >Automata true beginning is in a real life play
Pearl Harbor Descent can be read in the terminal in the village.
      >information that you wouldn't get in the actual game, like Kaine having a dick
      Did you play route B?

Having said that you're not wrong, the storytelling is pretty scattered for this series.

in practice they don't matter nowhere near as much as die hards would like to believe, the games themselves work because they have their own self contained narratives with good characters and well explored themes, not because there might be some lore implications on multiverse A-6789-C where the catastrophe of timeline 7 in the year 14980 might've happened 5 years earlier

the drakengard and nier games are perfectly playable without all this side bullshit, now sure I'm not saying it's completely irrelevant, it might expand on things or give flavor to the universe or whatever but that's not why the games themselves are good, their narratives are interesting or why people play them

        >side shit
Reincarnation has its own story and cast. You're acting as if being gacha game somehow makes it exempt from having a narrative with fleshed out characters when that's exactly what it is. This isn't just some random nothingburger of a story strung together by bits of lore hidden on the side. The characters hail from various time periods/alt. timelines of human historyand they come together to salvage remnants of humanity with select ones taking the lead of the story.

          >Reincarnation has its own story and cast. You're acting as if being gacha game somehow makes it exempt from having a narrative with fleshed out characters when that's exactly what it is.
I never said any of those things, my whole point is that are we really gonna pretend it's as integral and important as you guys are making it out to be to the "canon" or whatever? if a hypothetical Nier 3 comes out, I doubt it will be a "required" experience to have went through this gacha at all, hell it might have call backs to it, but hardly essential, that's my whole point

even the stuff about nier coming from ending E or whatever, do you really think it's taht relevant to the people actually playing nier, understanding its themes and enjoying its characters? hell even automata, which has callbacks to replicant still stands on its own

you people are acting like the taroverse or whatever the frick is some star wars empire strikes back thing where there's a clear cliffhanger for a sequel that's gonna have some crazy continuity when that couldn't be further from the truth, the nier games are thousands of year apart, the drakengard games are thousands of years and even worlds apart, again the crazy universe stuff is not why people play these games

I'm not saying Reincarnation is good or bad, I'm just saying it's nowhere near as relevant as you think it is in the grand scheme of things, just like that one stage play before automata released or that MMO raid thing was

You are right in the sense that it's not mandatory to read every novella, guide entry, weapon story, and short story and manga to enjoy the games as their own thing, but if you like the style and universe and the concept of a timeline "loop" fascinates you, or you just want more of the same-feeling stuff, the extra materials are really good. You don't need to know that Brother Nier-timeline NieR sold himself into sex slavery to pay for Yonah's medicine, but it adds to the character. You don't NEED to know the Fire of Prometheus story, but it adds to both the NieR and Automata lore. You don't NEED to know that the Cathedral City has Automata-age technology and script and Accord and an Android far beyond what we have ever seen with insane regeneration appears, but it adds to the overall story, etc.

See what I mean? If you are big on the way Taro tells his stories, you will naturally seek out extra details. And this, as I have learned today, actually has details on some of the least explored parts of the overall plot, which is pretty good, even if it's not "our" timeline, but remember, Accord has been hopping timelines for about 5000 years to find a way to undo Ending E of Drakengard, even though every thread around a singularity ends in failure. So AU or not, this IS important to the overall universe.

agreed and I never implied otherwise, that's why I said it expands on things and provides flavor to the universe, it's great for hardcore fans wanting that bit more, but let's be honest here, the games are perfectly playable, enjoyable and understandable standalone

            Anonymous

I'm not a "canon" autist but it's clear that curious anons were asking from a lore standpoint in terms of its relevancy to the rest of the franchise and people were obviously answering from that standpoint. Even so, shit like that has never stopped Taro from going all-in with writing detailed characters/lore that people can still appreciate in isolation away from the multiversal clusterfrick.

            >I doubt it will be a "required" experience to have went through this gacha at all
The same could be said for Replicant and Automata. Hell the entirety of the DoD franchise aren't "required" to enjoy either Nier games for that matter. There's no "required" experience for this shit when even Automata was written with newcomers in mind.

            >hell even automata, which has callbacks to replicant still stands on its own
And that's literally what I'm saying. You talk about what it takes for the entry to be "integral" or "important" and if people should gloss over it. That's your choice, but acting like Reincarnation doesn't stand its own just because it manages to connect to the other games is just plain false. Replicant did that. Automata did that. The only difference here is the scale: both Nier games were full-fledged games while this one is a glorified VN/auto-battler in the form of a gacha.

            >I'm just saying it's nowhere near as relevant as you think it is in the grand scheme of things, just like that one stage play before automata released or that MMO raid thing was
Not at all the same. By all means, treat Reincarnation as a spinoff game, but it's not even remotely comparable to the short length of content and story from the Yorha Stage Play or FF MMO raid. Whether or not you think it's "important" or worth your time isn't for me to decide but you're just being wilfully ignorant if you think it's some miniscule project that "hardcore fans" are somehow overinflating it.

            Anonymous

They are, which is why only autistic Taro fans like me are upset about Reincarnation, probably. The average fan who played only Automata and maybe the Steam release of Nier probably wouldn't care, yes. Once again, the argument isn't that they should, the argument is it makes no sense to lock shit only hardcore fans care about behind useless trash like gacha, when at least mostly everything else is fairly easily accessible, because it's nearly all text-based.

            Who the frick is Bartas?
What the frick is the Mercurius Gate?
What the frick is the Flower? Its probably made by the watchers but its worked against other agents of the watchers? Why is that?

None of this information actualy matters

The black Flower is likely created by God/The Watchers as the ultimate parasite to infect and destroy humanity from the inside.
The Mercurius Gate was created to SEAL the Flower by whoever sealed it inside, so probably the likes of Accord and whoever created her, because they realized they could not destroy it, but possibly hoped that actual humans, with the power of Maso and Dragons, COULD find a way in the future.
Bartus is some Android most likely created in the Kingdom of Night, like Accord, who likely had the most cutting edge technology they had access to at all, and I believe was also fused with maso, which I also think is the case for Accord. These two are a mix of insanely advanced technology and literal magic, and that's why Bartus CANNOT be killed, no matter what happens. He likely was created in a process similar to the dragons (Dragons were created in the Kingdom of Night)... When a dragon dies, he reincarnates as a much younger version if himself, like Michael and Mikhail. Therefore, Bartus most likely is an android that literally has dragon "DNA"/maso and mechanical parts of impossibly advanced make.

              Anonymous

We still don't know why Dragons are "natural enemies of the flower" EXACTLY, but since we know dragons were created by Androids in the Kingdom of Night and were brought to the Drakengard 3 world via the Cathedral City.. Well, it stands to reason THAT'S why they were brought there, to give humanity more of a chance to defeat the flower, even though those who SENT them over did not find a way to. They were DESIGNED to combat the flower, and the androids hoped whoever received all this maso, technology and stuff could one day reach a point where they can challenge and defeat the flower.. Perhaps because the creators were androids and not human and therefore somehow could not interact with the Watchers or the Flower, I don't know exactly.

I'll go on to add, but this is also exactly why I think Reincarnation struggled as a gacha in the first place, even amongst its small number of fans. The whole thing is written with narrative/lore in mind as its priority even though the success of gacha games always depend on character popularity, more or less pitting sexy anime characters against each other to get players to pay up for the next hot character.

Reincarnation doesn't do that, opting for a set cast and some aren't even designed for that same appeal. Certain characters were obviously written solely as vehicles for world-building that could've worked in an actual game (the bald couple comes into mind) but they don't really work in the context of a gacha. There are clues that the game was probably meant to have more player freedom until they settled on a generic auto-battler. Nevermind that they went for fully-rendered 3D models for every single character costume, as opposed to just being a turn-based jpeg collector so they basically bled themselves dry even for the unpopular characters (imagine having Pascal or .

I genuinely don't know why they thought all of this was a good way to handle a gacha but frick it, I enjoyed my time with the characters and story well enough. At least it actually managed to end before croaking on itself which can't be said for a lot of other gacha.

Not quite true. There is one specific set of events that leads to a linear timeline for what we have had so FAR - from Drakengard 3 to Automata and beyond, it's just that at every point along the way there are divergences. This also means that events on one of the divergences may circle back and affect the main path itself, though, which is why locking this to a gacha is, again, a travesty.

I cant see it ever working, autism was different back in the day.
You could write about a magic vision boy who can cut the life out of chairs with a straight face and people would eat it up and call it genius.

Nope. The big Gacha games in Japan now are Genshin, Honkai Star Rail , Uma, Blue Archive, Nikke and of course Grand Order itself. Besides Fate, none of them are based on existing franchises.

Could be in Accord's Library. I hate myself how I like the lore of the games, but I can't seem to sit down and focus and read the extra materials.
Maybe I'll try the Voice of Cards games next to scratch the itch.

I don't understand, how expensive are gachas to maintain? Everything about thems seems to be passive income for developers.

      See

Most gachas are jpeg collectors but somehow Taro and Squeenix thought it was a good idea to create unique models for every single character and their costumes as if it was a full game. Pretty sure it wasn't cheap to maintain and I'm honestly surprised it lasted this long.

The gachas that last are the ones that cater to a market that actually has money, in a way that will actually take their money. All of these games depend on a relatively small number of whales, not masses of small spenders. If your playerbase doesn't have whale money, and proper reasons to whale, you won't make money. Servers and maintenance staff are a fixed cost, let alone writers, artists, actors, coders, etc. to actually make new stuff to keep people coming back.

        >They weren't selling JPGs
As a gacha that's all it boils down to, sounds like a management issue to me.
I tried it when it launched and the color palette and it having the most boring character designs ever is all I got out of it.

Why the frick can't you just make a new console game like what everyone wants

      Anonymous

Because Yoko Taro is a one-hit wonder. All his good ideas were used up in Automata (most of which are reused from Nier 1), meaning he cannot replicate it again without being called out.

        Anonymous

Most NieR themes were already present in Drakengard lol. Thematically he keeps going back to the same stuff.

Because Squeenix has his hands tied. They basically dumped Taro on mobile duty for muliple gacha games in hopes that his name alone was enough. Also this was basically their way of beta testing Ever Crisis (same studio and engine) so now they're axing it with the latter already up and running.

I hate and love this song so much. Love it for obvious reasons, hate it because of what happens to Devola and Popola in Automata. Everything was a huge fricking "nobody wins" situation, man. Yet nobody was wrong.
      "No one stops."
And when I stumbled into that fricking library in Automata, damn. Memories flooded back. I had to sit there and think.

I don't know, dude, that's unnecessarily fricking cruel.
It wasn't the originals fault necessary, either - it's not like the Project predicted Replicants not only going sentient, but even the Shadowlord rebelling, and Nier becoming so strong that they can't force the failsafe or Weiss losing his memories are not things anyone anticipated. And as much as you felt like they were villains, ultimately, they were fighting for the survival of humanity, and to be painted as the reason humanity is gone is just so fricked..

Humanity was fricked the second queen beast landed. The rest was just over 6000's years of humanity slowly wilting away. Drakengard timeline saved at the cost of nier's being completely fricked, hope it was worth it

I decided to start playing the game since it's got EOS in less than 3 months. All of the stories so far are Weapon Stories. Which in Nier and Drakengard they almost always had downer endings at best. And so far none of the jpegs are halfway decent. No wonder it's got no playerbase.
