he's right thought
>2 hour long video
nah he's a fricknut it shouldn't take that long to make a point
>oh that seems like a neat topic
>two hours long
why? please don't tell me he does a plot summary
What plot?
>please don't tell me he does a plot summary
He barely does that at all actually.
It's mostly an analysis of the trends set by and in between each entry.
please just fricking... TALK ABOUT THE GAME
This is precisely why I can't watch his fricking videos it get's real pretentious real fricking fast. He's such a homosexual it's unreal
KingK is an actual moron. I tried watching his Earthbound video years ago and it was absolutely riddled with factual errors about the game in the first five minutes. and I don't mean bad takes (those were there too) but actual straight up spouting incorrect names and facts. Sounded like he hadn't even played it.
His Mother 1 video was the worst shit I've ever seen. He played it with the fan made anniversary patch because some moron told him to, and he ended up spending most of the video b***hing about how the game doesn't give him enough XP and he was constantly underleveled because the patch lowered the enemy encounter rate without changing anything else to compensate. It also redraws all the sprites and fricks up the games visual style completely.
I mean, the original game's encounter rate is absurd, you can't go 20 seconds without another battle, but if you're gonna play it with a patch you should at least go with Tomato's translation with the easy ring that cuts down the encounter rate and boosts XP gain to compensate.
this is the only good OoT video essay ever
>muh subtext
name a more pseud numale term
just watched around 5 minutes of this video, i've concluded that you're a huge homosexual, have a nice day
>The saddest Zelda story... no one noticed
*farts*
This video rubbed me the wrong way when it came out, and the comments only made it worse. First off, his cadence is obnoxious. He presents things as fact, supports them with flimsy evidence, and then bases the entire rest of the video's premise on this poorly supported idea. Example:
>the Master Sword is literally the embodiment of childhood
>knowing this, yadda yadda yadda...
I don't accept the premise to begin with, yet he keeps referencing it as if it's self-evident. It's such a logical leap that all of the comments lapping up this video MUST be doing so because the vid just makes them feel good about a game they like. Ocarina of Time is one of my favorite video games ever, too, but this psuedo-intellectual meandering sort of "here is something that is very important and deep...you just never noticed" in that wistful tone cranks it up to levels of pretense that shouldn't even be possible. It's fine if people want to make videos like this, I'm just not sure why the audience is so supportive of it, with almost no countervailing discussion in the comments. I honestly think it's because the video is well-edited, so its production looks high quality, and his tone of voice sells the fact that he has discovered something incredible (which went conveniently unnoticed by everyone else on earth for 20+ years).
Unrelated, but I'd like to add that I used to get tricked by videos that were lengthy "reviews" or "critiques" or "analyses" of games I liked, until I realized that they were just walkthroughs, merely describing what's happening on screen, with the smallest sliver of insight. The only person I've seen pull this off and actually say something of merit was matthewmatosis.
I feel the same as you with everything you've said. To me, it's embarrassing the way these people go about jerking off games, the Zelda and especially OoT and MM in particular, going as far to describe them as "Vehicles of story telling" that descriptor makes me wanna' PUKE everytime it's uttered that it's like they're desperately TRYING to get people to take the medium seriously, but it just comes off so forced.
Also with what you mentioned about his premises being touted as fact I felt the same about too and it wouldn't so arrogantly highbrow if it were just his interpretation of things. It's on a level of bad as Arin's Sequalitis when interpreting game design.
one of the biggest pseud vidya essayists out there
He really is.
He's become those types who sharing personal details about their life whilst spewing pretentious philosophical diarrhea (ironic when you consider he's a Zoomer) while tying the game into they're talking and haphazardly sharing their thoughts on the game in, of course, a contrived, faux dramatic low tone like in an audio book. People really need to stop treating the internet as their personal consoler.
This is about as worse as what happened with that Zoomer, Haedox.
>what happened with Haedox? I remember that dude having shit opinions and the ugliest of all of the cartoon avatars, but nothing else
He was developing some genuine mental issues it wasn't even funny seeing his mental decline after his "Why Games Should Die" biopic set up.
>Sexually molested/assaulted 2 times (assuming it was parents)
>Mortality sperging
>Jaded with vidya
>Became a Christcuck
He's doing a lot better now, but man was was like he teetering on An Heroing at any moment.
i hate nuzelda so fricking much it's unreal
bro this game for 8 year olds is actually so heckin deep
I understand what you're saying, but people analyse old fairytales all the time, don't they?
not in the way you're implying
good video
Incorrect, that youtuber’s videos are awful
There are black people
His video about LSD dream simulator pissed me off when he overplays how mysterious and confusing the game is. Everything is explained clearly in the manual and its wasy to find a translation. Fricking every single vidya videoessayist acts like non modern games were esoteric and super hard for not having tutorials when all these games had detailed manuals that we actually read back then.
Nice thumbnails.
I hate this guy like you wouldn't believe.
Can't wrap my head around how can someone have his head so far up his own ass.
The whole video is him doing the most impressive mental gymnastics to see qualities that are not really there.
People give Liam a bad wrap due to his overzealous title cards, but all he really does is go over the history of the games he talks about while sharing his personal thoughts/experiences on them. He's really not that bad when you consider the likes of DEAR SEAGAH guy
and
and Super homosexualparch Wolf and NeverKnowsBest and BREADSWORD.
>Super homosexualparch Wolf
I know he's guilty of the style of these videos but I gotta say that I think he seems genuinely nice and i've gotta hand it to him discovering quite a bunch of stuff that i liked.
>but all he really does is go over the history of the games he talks about while sharing his personal thoughts/experiences on them
I don't know, man. I just think he says a lot of dumb shit about games I like. My autism bothers me when people praises good things using lies and falacies. It's very insulting.
I share your sentiments on EyePatchWolf, but that doesn’t make his videos any less insufferable these days. I’ll look into some things he recommends, but I can’t stomach the overdramatic tone and delivery of his scripts. Feels insulting to the work and the viewer to use such poorly constructed hyperbole
Whoever it was that started the contrived video essayist voice, I have to congratulate them for creating the most cancerous trend when talking about media. Ever. It's like these homosexuals watched several documentaries, biopics, etc. that do it and had to follow suit given the subject matter of what they're talking about because "that's just how it's done" in their minds and it really, really irks me and it's even worse if their the arthouse type who treats vidya as high art.
>lies and falacies
He just has shitty opinions. No need to take it that far. KEK
If you want someone who fits your description, then Arcane Kinship and Hbomberguy are your perfect matches for that.
He overanalyses like all of these fricking people do but I really liked his video on Riverdale. I'm not gonna watch that shit but it's nice to have something that batshit summed up.
I watched a Breadsword video about Jak and he spent a good 10 minutes blathering on about having an anxiety attack because he missed his friends in school or some shit. Just talk about the game PLEASE
I know I enjoyed his treasure planet video at some point, but that Jak video was complete garbage. Talked about basic platformer design concepts like they were revelations, and then treats a cliffhanger nothingburger 100% ending as if it was storytelling genius
>BREADSWORD
I've got a Zoomer friend who recommended me Breadsword as a view on the way early Zoomers feel about vidya. In that sense I feel his stuff has value (if only to see how fricked the mental state of that generation is) but his videos are fricking terrible if you're looking more for insight/education about the media itself.
How Ocarina of Time Ruined Zelda
>has a shitty filter over all the duration of the Botw video
Why
Reminder that this is the guy who had a paranoia breakdown when Ukraine got invaded. He made an entire video about why he couldn’t finish Elden Ring because it was too scary in a post-ukrainian invasion world. Then he had to get therapy when the comments were making fun of him, all for him to say “Xenoblade 3 is my game of the year because it’s an accurate depiction of wartime horrors.”
Did he actually say that Xenoblade 3 shit. post that shit that sounds hilairious
Ah yes the game with the anime cat girl shows the horrors of war. homie would fricking breakdown and kill himself watching threads
I liked Cenoblde 3, and it had some poignant reflections on mortality, but a depiction of “wartime horrors” it is not. Though, that could be your phrasing and not his
Who gives a shit?
most of these videos are fart sniffing tier but the OOT masterclass in subtext video is actually pretty good, OOT nails its themes better than 99% of other games out there
>but the OOT masterclass in subtext video is actually pretty good
The problem with that video is the overzealous production quality and editing. I mean for frick sake, after the intro it starts with a shot of some old fashioned CRT with a montage of clips from various Zeldas. Like, WHAT THE FRICK? Am I watching an A24 produced film?
>still seething about botw
good to see
I fricking hate KingK, he's the biggest pretentious hack fraud on the platform. Yeah go on and put your "serious" video essay on instead of talking normally, everyone thinks you are real deep.
The only video essay gay that I dont get annoyed with for talking about their personal life is ThorHighHeels. He seems pretty cool and actually has interesting shit to say.
He’s not really pretentious. He’s not coming from the perspective of a definitive analysis. Just relaying what he likes about a game
>Hidegaki, make Rink's footsteps sound different on the carpetoh
>start drafting a script for a youtube video
>realize that I'm going to have to record myself talking
>realize I'm going to have to listen and edit myself talking
>for potentially hours even if the video only ends up being like 15 minutes long
Oh god
For me, it's Jimmy McGee
https://youtube.com/@JimmyMcG33
There's a bit in his most recent video where, while going into detail about how the real danger with AI shit is the dopamine dripfeed engagement algorithms that control social media sites, he goes on a tangent about how youtubers need to stop making "game analysis" videos that are just dogshit story summaries with no attempt at insight. Dude's great.
IDK if I'm going to watch the whole thing due to the level of cynicism in his presentation despite being an anti-AIgay myself, but the aside about the video essays and algorithm topics (Can you Y with X??) is spot on.
>masterfully crafted
Translation: Well written, edited, nothing special in regards to the topic.
>Well, at least it sounds like a technical video, and not something like "the pathological sadness of the Business Scrub that upgrades your Deku Stick capacity"
The irony is that's exactly what he wants you to think, but it's actually the opposite of what you described.
>How Breath of the Wild Broke Ganker and continues breaking Ganker
>Vid. isn't even about OoT, but all 3D Zelda games
>Self conscience loathing about his older vids.
>Cries about "Muh polar ice caps rising sea levels!"
Why are Zoomers like this?
It's just N64 babies crying as usual
I love both OoT and BotW formulas
Well, at least it sounds like a technical video, and not something like "the pathological sadness of the Business Scrub that upgrades your Deku Stick capacity".
