That's not true. Valve was very permissive with source game assets and licensing (I think they're open domain, if not some cuck license) to the point that you can find HL2 models in CoD games. Anything Nintendo related is getting banned from the Steam workshop section of a game that's older than you are because Nintendo are litigious buttholes that will ruin your life just because they can.
Nintendo is supposedly DMCA'ing the Nintendo franchise mods on the Steam Workshop for Garry's Mod. Supposedly. There's also been talk that it's a copyright troll called "Aaron Peters" doing it, and given Garry's a colossal moron, who knows who's really causing it.
It would make alot of sense, since Workshop mods are free and third party and thus would not be open to lawsuiting. Nintendo has never had a reason in all this time to go after Gmod. That's not true. Valve was very permissive with source game assets and licensing (I think they're open domain, if not some cuck license) to the point that you can find HL2 models in CoD games. The issue is that source 2 doesn't give you the same freedom and Garry was dead set on using source 2 and then started chimping when he realized he couldn't just use assets anymore.

first of all, timespan. gmod addons of nintendo content go back 20 years. Why start now? You could argue about their latency, but there were still multiple instances where they could've done something about their IP being used inappropriately if they cared.
second of all nintendo would file a claim directly to valve, they wouldn't be filing claims through individual addon takedowns. which is what's been happening for the last several months prior to today's announcement.
thirdly, the addons that were being struck were completely at random. at first it was mario and then smash bros, and then it started extending to pokemon. splatoon addons have not been touched, same with a significant portion of animal crossing models.

fourth, this guy has not just targetted nintendo addons. a wallace and gromit addon was taken down for having a picture of mario in its screenshot gallery, and i don't think nintendo owns the copyright to the addon (the picture, sure, but the picture is independent of the addon)
