Well, since we're in a Nintendo thread *technically*, it's sort of fitting that I've been thinking of doing a playthrough of the original Paper Mario. The previews for the TTYD remake look real good, so I've been thinking of playing the TTYD 64 hack that upgrades 64's battle system to be more like TTYD.
I finally picked up DQ11 for the switch and I am loving it so far. Haven't play a DQ game since 6 and this one has been great. I am just forging a new sword of light after finding out Veronica fricking died and am really enjoying the cast of the game so far. Sylvando is way more based than expected, and Rab revealing himself as your grandpa in the ruins of Dundrassil actually had me feeling bad for the poor old bastard. Seeing your children die and thinking your grandchild had died too, only to find out they were alive? That's a bit of hope the poor old man never dared to dream of.

Currently playing MMBN4, but taking it slowly because I finished the first 3 in a row and don't want to burn out (it's been considerably worse than the earlier titles even though I like the new mechanic).
Also started Unicorn Overlord, barely played 3 maps and already love that shit.
Me and my friends have been trying to beat ember knights, but it gets confusing to play with 3-4 players while wasted.
We've also been playing a lot of boomerang-fu, lethal league and road redemption.
And I play mario kart daily with my wife.

They ruined the artstyle. Old Paper Mario was a storybook, not an arts and crafts project. The translation is also going to be shit. Honestly, the only reason to buy this is to hopefully send a message to Nintendo that we want more of 64/TTYD rather than a 4th Sticker Star.
It was always meant to look like a pop up book. That's why the original was called "Mario Story", after Yoshi Story which was directly framed as a pop up book. The originals were somewhat limited technically but still tried to directly evoke that feel with the various pop up animations and environments that look like they're made from folded paper.

Nintendo's releases always wind down to almost nothing in the final year of a console's life. The Switch 2 was supposed to come out this fall but was pushed back to spring 2025 so there's going to be a gigantic gap period.

Nintendo has launched many consoles, and before every single one they stop putting out games. Nintendo does not and has never believed in cross gen. When they do a new console, they drop the old one almost entirely.

I fricking love Nintendo games and they quite literally aren't making any. I've never had such a unique problem where I was so ready to spend all my money and the store has fricking nothing. Granted, they keep adding new content to the digital arcade and I really love how large the N64 library has become, but that isn't "New Game". Did they just fire everybody who made the trillions of 3DS games they used to spit out every other day? Why is game development just non-existent now? There aren't even any Mii games.
And then the one game I had every intention of aggressively whaling hard for, AC New Horizon, they literally abandoned it after a year of post-release patches. It got one dlc and I was so disgusted I didn't even buy it. What the frick.
This is not even remotely new for them. The 3DS was the same in 2016. The Wii was the same in 2012. They literally always do this. Every single game at this point has been moved over to dump in the first year of the switch 2. Because they want to force you to buy a new console and they know one big game probably wont do that.They're not worried about it hurting game sales because they sell these games for full price forever anyway.

Here is how it's going down

There is going to be a "Nintendo Spotlight". Not a direct, but it's going to be a showcase of all the "best" switch games and asking people to pick up some if you haven't. For the entire month of May, there are going to be deals on the E-shop where some of the games will go on sale.

This is when Nintendo plans to tell everyone that they have a new console coming. They won't show it off, they won't tell you the specs or the gimmick, just that a new console is coming and they will have trailers for the final switch games, some of which they will tell you that they are either "cross gen" compatible or they have a simultaneous release for the new console. The big game to show off is of course Metroid Prime 4, which will have a release year of 2025. It's only a teaser trailer, showing Samus and a few environments, but no actual gameplay.

This is when the name of the new console will be revealed, along with the specs. It isn't very impressive, about 1.5 times as strong as the Switch. Nintendo is too concerned about the size of it getting too big for being portable. Nintendo has heard that people wanted the Switch to be more powerful in it's dock though, so they have been looking into trying that. That's why they are doing DLSS. They are also trying their hand at VR in a more serious manner. This is why MP4 was delayed so much, they wanted it to be their first real VR title. The new console's name is rather simple and harkens back to Nintendo's roots. The internal name for the new console is the Switch 2, but really it's the SS or Super Switch. The Logo is the Switch, but the Joycons have an S decal, so it makes the SS. They are planning on it releasing in March and will say as much.
