Nobody expected it to be as powerful as the Steam Deck
The Steam Deck is literally a portable base PS4 power wise. Most people at least wanted it to be a little more powerful than a PS4 pro.
I think it should at least be as powerful as a base PS4 yeah, but I wouldn't be expecting much out of Nintendo in the first place.
the Steam Deck actually has games tho
nintendo has overpriced shit
as opposed to sony and nintendo charging $70?
>the Steam Deck actually has games tho
yes all at 12fps and a 40 minute battery
The Steam Deck can literally play Switch games are better resolution and fps???
Sorry but nintendo makes games and valve doesn't.
the games on Steam shit on the Nintendo Switch
you have no idea what you're talking about
you can't even find games on the switch
and nintendo doesn't even advertise decent games
all they advertise is garbage constantly
if all you had was nintendo to play games
actual developers would be screwed
and they don't even want switch 2 to be modular
they want you to buy a new controller every time the thing breaks and they dont' want you using it like the wii mote
the company is going to be dead in the water soon, it's a shit company all their talent is dead, couldn't even put 6 boards into mario party
I disagree.
The games on Steam are the games you play between first party releases on your console of choice. It's all third party garbage without a console to sell you so they gleeful indulge in "micro"transactions and digital deluxe edition israelitery.
steam doesn't charge you to play online dude
and I have 236 games on Steam
the only time a switch game is worth buying is if you want a cartridge
>they want you to buy a new controller every time the thing breaks
But enough about the Steam Deck.
Do you actually understand what the Steam Deck is?
Based. Too bad tendies cant see this. Theyre in for a rude awakening when nintendo goes bankrupt.
>tendies are zoomoids who weren't even alive when valve was making games
Expected
its called third party support asstard
Yeah and steam got no first party, so there is no point in buying it.
That would only make sense if the switch had all the third-party titles that the deck has. Obviously, it does not.
Valve hasn't made an actual video game since Portal 2 in 2011
no it doesn't. all of the Steam Deck games can be played on PC
False. Steam Deck is stronger than most PCs out there.
So, like Nintendo games?
No shit, sherlock, steam deck is a pc
but its sold like a console
Name 1 Steam Deck exclusive.
Why would the steam deck have exclusives? Go read what gabens said moron.
Because that's why you buy hardware to play video games.
No its not.
Yeah it is
No its not.
agree to disagree
You can't disagree with objective reality. People are already buying the steam deck and it doesn't have any exclusives your premise has already been violated.
That's why it flopped. Shitted even.
Another childishly moronic statement try replying to the post next time and learn some basic logic.
Why? PC vegans don't have my respect. Earn it first, vegan
no one cares about your respect homosexual normal people have functioning brains which causes them to act like adults at all times you should get help so you can be on par with the rest of society
Nice punctuation. Are you tilted?
>Why would the steam deck have exclusives?
Because it's a console. It's competing with (and losing against) the Switch 1. Once the Switch 2 is out, why would anyone want Valve's knockoff?
If the Deck continues to flop, it might spell the end of Steam as a platform. Valve might have to go third-party, like Sega.
>Because it's a console
handheld
>It's competing with (and losing against) the Switch 1
no
>Once the Switch 2 is out, why would anyone want Valve's knockoff?
its your machine and it can play more games also has more power
>If the Deck continues to flop
well first it would need to start
>it might spell the end of Steam as a platform
financially illiterate delusion about what I'd expect from a toddler
>Valve might have to go third-party, like Sega
genuine bait
didn't read, I own a switch, ps5, vita, 3ds, steam deck and a pc. seethe poorgay
of course not you're a financially illiterate and regularly illiterate toddler
don't care I have enough disposable income to own you so seethe poorgay
Steam deck is an objective flop. Don't know what else to say. History puts it under the likes of Saturn, WiiU, Vita etc, There are no spiritual victories in the big leagues.
>Steam deck is an objective flop
probably not, because it depends on what its intent was.
I don't know if the current iteration was meant to be this super successful handheld console as much as it was meant to create this low barrier-to-entry on PC gaming as well as fill a niche for PC gaming on a handheld.
I think the core of the intent was more about filling that gap with something compelling that existing handheld PCs and laptops weren't doing a good job of. If it keeps people using and buying games on Steam, then it's a success as a secondary device for most people
Its intent was to flop?
Its intent was to succeed which it did.
Not really. It required a revision like 1.5 years in, completely copying it's competitor that outsold it 140 million to 3.
flopped. shitted. We all danced. etc
Only way the deck could have flopped is if it sold less then they produced. You obviously have no idea how business works.
>flopped. shitted. We all danced. etc
nice moron baby babble bro
Every deck was sold at a loss and the total units sold are well below flopped standards for hardware. If you don't want to compare to the pieces of hardware then take it up with the writer of every single steam deck article, not me.
>Every deck was sold at a loss
No shit you fricking moron its a loss leader to give people access the steam store holy shit you're dumb.
>only sold to ~3% of Steams own userbase
>thinks it brought it new users
I have no image for this
Yea its called finding product market fit. Companies operate on longer time frames than your puny mind. Valve now established a product that people actually want and will continue to iterate and sell more. They're just now working on deals to get these things into stores. Also every deck clone is just a win for valve since they get people to use steam. Only possible downside is they don't use linux.
>Valve now established a product that people actually want
no they didn't. not by any metric.
was by valves metrics
a spiritual success
A financial success.
Switch - Financial success, flopped spiritually
Deck - Spiritual success, flopped for real
>Switch - Financial success, flopped spiritually
???
The deck is not a flop. They never intended to sell hundreds of million of units they didn't even make that much.
Only the lowest price tier was sold at a loss.
You do realize the deck was a copy of the switch from the outset right? Why wouldn't they just copy them for the next one? It just the switch but a pc instead of fisher price toy.
it's a copy of the vita
vitas a copy of the gameboy
>intent was to succeed
But you just said Valve had no expectations
No I didn't I'm a different poster than
if thats what you're referring to
>There are no spiritual victories in the big leagues.
The frick you even talking about you moron? The deck surpassed valves expectations go get some real world experience before you start spouting your moronic business misconceptions online.
I disagree.
Thats because you're a moron.
you literally don't even know what that phrase means lol
It's a success because Valve had abysmally low expectations?
if you want to call them abysmal sure it outsold their expectation though
it did what they intended it to do
flop?
PC vegan cope
>handheld
A handheld console, then.
>no
yes
>its your machine and it can play more games also has more power
Nintendo actually makes games. And a trivial performance difference won't matter.
>financially illiterate delusion about what I'd expect from a toddler
Valve has invested billions on their hardware division. If it doesn't turn a profit, they'll have to do something drastic to save the company. Like selling Steam to Microsoft, who would absorb it into Xbox.
Where does that leave Valve? As a third-party studio, making games like Counter-Strike for consoles and Windows (sorry, Linuxchuds).
What? I thought PS4 Pro level was the best we could hope for this whole time. What were people expecting exactly?
impossible because my 10 year old laptop is more powerful than a PS4, and Steam Deck is newer and more powerful than the laptop.
i expected it to be more powerful than a years old shitty brick with generic parts like the deck. the fact that nintendo wont even give you that just proves how cucked nintendoids are. theyre not even pretending to give you a decent product.
All about games my friend. Hardware never mattered.
you mean like pokemon s&v which looked and played like a beta version of a mobile app for pre schoolers? the games are literally getting worse.
>you mean like pokemon s&v which looked and played like a beta version of a mobile app for pre schoolers
No I didn't mean those games. Did you mean those games? That's silly.
thats the most popular brand, so it should be one of their better games. instead the highest scored games are multiplats except for zelda and mario.
Nintendo doesn't make pokemon
And Sony doesn't own Spider man. Your point?
I didn't say anything about Spiderman.
>Hardware never mattered
Why didn't Nintendo stick with the N64 then?
Bro you had people arguing for months that it would not only be powerful it would be way more powerful than the deck. And no they were not being ironic or taking the piss, they were writing essays about all the leaks and "facts".
Those people are morons. Simple as.
Those people are morons and Ganker console warriors, the T239 chip is somewhere between a PS4 and a PS4 Pro and has DLSS capability. It's not going to actually run anything better than a Steam Deck would. That doesn't actually matter much in a console application since Steam Deck is a PC, so apples to oranges, but in raw computational ability Nintendo's new SoC would only be "slightly more powerful" at ABSOLUTE fricking best.
The leading arrative here is that its more powerful than a ps4 pro with full rt support, in handheld, im hoping that its around the power of an xone in handheld with a larger differential boost while docked and aims for 1440 internal upscaled to 60fps while targeting post switch quality visuals, and nintendo actually adopt modern rendeting tech like mesh shaders and virtual shadowmaps.
>its more powerful than a ps4 pro with full rt support, in handheld,
these guys are morons
>im hoping that its around the power of an xone in handheld
this one is happening, drake chip shows power between PS4/PS4 pro and PS4 is above xbone in power
>larger differential boost while docked
probably not happening because handheld is the minimum floor for performance
>aims for 1440 internal upscaled to 60fps while targeting post switch quality visuals,
very likely 1080p internal while handheld and 1440p docked, nintendo has apparently bought a metric frickton of 1080p 8" screens
>and nintendo actually adopt modern rendeting tech like mesh shaders and virtual shadowmaps.
they're kinda figuring out modern game-dev pipelines but nintendo games are generally also so stylized that it doesn't matter that much
using DLSS alone is already a blessing
>very likely 1080p internal while handheld and 1440p docked, nintendo has apparently bought a metric frickton of 1080p 8" screens
1080p to 1440p doesn't make any sense for a handheld to dock ratio. There's no way handheld is so close to docked in performance. In that case they'd be running docked at 60fps and handheld at 30 which isn't worth it.
I think what we'll see is two main types of games.
>The easier to run games
things like Mario Party, Smash bros or Animal Crossing.
4k docked
1080p handheld
>The harder to run games
Stuff like 3D Mario, Zelda and Xenoblade.
2k docked
900p handheld
You will have some unoptimized lazy third party ports that run 1080p docked 720p handheld. Of course this is the output resolution not the input.
>4k
LOL
It's not going to be running at 4k. For the easier to run games that output at 4k it's going to be 1080p docked 720p handheld. Then they use DLSS to increase the output resolution. Note that 60fps 4k will likely be impossible due to DLSS run time, so I expect most if not all switch 2 4k games to be 30.
I don't expect any 4K games because Nintendo isn't silly in the head, that's Sony and Microsoft's dragon to chase.
>I don't expect any 4K games because Nintendo isn't silly in the head, that's Sony and Microsoft's dragon to chase.
The graphics of some of their franchises are hitting the point where improving them further makes no sense. For these franchises it makes much more sense to increase the resolution than to try to squeeze out better lighting or whatever. Examples are Mario Party and Animal Crossing. I fully expect Mario Party and Animal Crossing to be 4k because there's simply no better use for the extra power.
Won't indie tier games or AA ones be able run 4k?
sure but that's kinda like running cave story at 4K
its 2024 even nintendo can do that. also the switch was an experiment now that its tested nintendo will be more willing to shell out the big bucks and suppliers will be more willing to cut deals.
>The leading arrative here is that its more powerful than a ps4 pro with full rt support, in handheld,
no it isn't. an earlier report said it could possibly be between the PS4 and the PS4 pro with people speculating that it could have DLSS support if they find a way to provide enough power for it in handheld mode. the DLSS is simply wishful thinking
I did and it could be. Probably just downclocked to save on battery.
You're right I expected it to be more powerful (and still do)
Man, why do techlets have to scream the loudest?
First of all, the comparison was made in terms of FLOPs. No one will care if Deck has 1.5TF and Switch 2 has 1.4TF if the games look and run better on Switch 2.
Second, since Deck is a handheld, it's compared to Switch 2's portable mode. Docked mode on Switch 2 will be twice as performant just like it is on Switch. Because it's a hybrid.
Deck will be 3 years old when Switch 2 releases. It's an ancient piece of shit by technology standards.
>It's an ancient piece of shit by technology standards
Yet the switch still can't beat it? You see the issue here?
Not really. Nintendo won't release a $600 piece of hardware just to "compete" with gabe's tablet he sells at a loss for $400. That's not how nintendo operates their business.
Try reading my post next time.
Even if in terms of FLOPs Switch 2 will be a bit weaker (in portable mode) it doesn't matter if the games will look and run better. Deck has to run an entire fully fledged OS in the background, games aren't optimised specifically for the hardware and it has to run them through proton.
Because Switch 2 is a hybrid, it will be 2x more powerful than Deck in docked mode.
Steam deck has a dock
That's the point. Deck is a handheld. Switch 2 is a hybrid.
If Switch 2 in portable mode and Deck are comparable, then Switch 2 in docked mode will be ~2x stronger than Deck.
Wait so Deck doesn't get a performance boost from being docked? The frick is the point then?
the point in buying a deck or docking a deck? Nevermind same answer for both: none
To play on a bigger screen. Deck is literally "handheld with HDMI out" certain posters keep screeching about.
Grim. Hybrid is the future. I hope Gabe learned from his mistake.
I think most people buying a steam deck actually already have a pc. Which is probably the opposite of what they wanted but I doubt anyone would bring how their deck to plug into a tv. Maybe if they go to their friends house or events or something it'd make sense.
so it lost money on every sale, didn't sell a lot, and also didn't bring in new users.
Its debatable how many new users it brought in. Certainly valve fans bought it. But theres other cases like people who don't tinker with pcs and already have a console.
>it doesn't matter if the games will look and run better
It should be both though. The deck is already half a generation behind the switch 2.
Grim
They’re likely pointing out that because they’ll have Turing cores, they can use a lower wattage to AI upscale to Steam deck quality or even better
They would be wrong because upscaling sucks ass at 720p and should not be relied upon.
You fricking morons think there is some magic tech that will let Nintendo release better hardware that's gonna be cheaper and stronger than the Deck at the same time.
>2019: switch pro soon according to analyst
>trusting analyst
>Nintendo is not even trying
when garbage like animal crossing sells 40 million copies, why would you need to?
It's the same PS5 story of "big attach ratio, nothing else matters", except they actually have games
It's why even garbage like Paper Mario TOK managed to sell more than 2 million copies in metr months and become the series' best seller btw.
It is genuinely disgusting how many news sites and youtubers relentlessly pushed fake switch pro stories for years and only stopped to changeover to switch 2 stories
They don't even have the shame to apologize even a little bit
It's the same 3-4 "journalists"/"insiders" as well. Pathetic.
They're reporting on rumors you fricking idiot they got the rumors right the facts are wrong because obviously rumors don't mean jack shit. And the switch pro likely was in development and got canceled due to covid so they just settled for the oled.
Man, I still remember when everyone was so damn sure they were doing a pro back in 2021, and nope, just the Oled.
There were even Amazon preorder pages and shit.
Is Switch 2 or whatever it's going to be called the most "leaked" console in terms of media rumors in existence? These rumors even went as far back as 2017 when the first Switch was released, shit's ridiculous.
>Is Switch 2 or whatever it's going to be called the most "leaked" console in terms of media rumors in existence? These rumors even went as far back as 2017 when the first Switch was released, shit's ridiculous.
You need to separate the leaks from morons on twitter from the hack on nvidia. The leaks are totally made up bullshit which is why they've been wrong many times.
In fact, the hack kind of disproved the leaks years ago. It was already obvious that the switch 2 was not coming out until at least late 2024 if not later because the chip it's based on, the Orin was way too big for the switch form factor and obviously needed a die shrink.
The nvidia hack itself isn't 100 percent foolproof either. Nobody knows the date of when that info is uploaded at it's been two years since that happening. Who the frick knows what further modifications nvidia or nintendo could've done to it.
>Who the frick knows what further modifications nvidia or nintendo could've done to it.
Nintendo is not paying the money for a new fully custom chip. So they have to use something made by Nvidia and underclock it, There are two such chips Nintendo can use in 2025, Orin or Thor. Thor would make the console 700-800 dollars so it's going to be Orin. They literally don't have any other mobile chips for Nintendo to use.
>Nintendo is not paying the money for a new fully custom chip.
why wouldn't they?
>why wouldn't they?
it would massively increase the cost of the chip for Nintendo and make the console unprofitable. At that point they'd be better off asking AMD or Intel to make them a chip based on some laptop part.
That would be ideal. Going with nvidia for the switch 2 is going to cripple its performance.
Custom hardware will always be more expensive to produce than already made hardware. This is because the hardware needs R&D, new factory logistics for production, and custom software to run the thing.
It doesn't have to be completely modded, just some additional change here and there. I'm not saying it should be like the PS3's cell processor but it's going to have tweaks and adjustments preferable to nintendo's ideals.
>It doesn't have to be completely modded, just some additional change here and there. I'm not saying it should be like the PS3's cell processor but it's going to have tweaks and adjustments preferable to nintendo's ideals.
The only thing Nintendo could do to reduce the power of the Orin chip is to disable parts of it. But then they're still paying for those parts, so there's logically no reason to do that. As I mentioned in a previous post, if Nintendo didn't want a device similar to the Orin, they could have just gone with an AMD or Intel laptop chip. AMD and Intel have tons of integrated laptop APUs and Nintendo could easily snag something weaker and smaller if they wanted that. They stuck with Nvidia knowing they would get this chip.
>The only thing Nintendo could do to reduce the power of the Orin chip is to disable parts of it. But then they're still paying for those parts,
They're getting a semi-custom chip fabbed specifically for them, so they won't be paying for that much more.
They will still disable some hardware simply to increase the yield.
That is the only way to get to an affordable system produced by the millions.
We know from the Nvidia hack that it uses 1536 cores. 3 times as many as the Deck.
Disabling parts of the chip doesn't make it any cheaper. In what way does turning off a part you already paid for make your device cost less, please explain this to me?
NTA, but disabling parts of a chip means that in the case of a defect, it's more likely for the chip to still be functional because it only affected the disabled parts. That increases yield (the proportion of usable chips), driving production costs down since more units can be made with each wafer.
You're mistaking how this works. Nvidia pays the foundry for the chips, then Nintendo sells the chips to Nintendo. Nintendo does not pay for binned chips, Nvidia does.
I know, and I disagree with the notion that Nintendo would disable parts of the chip to save on yields. I was speaking more generally to chip production as a whole.
>but disabling parts of a chip means that in the case of a defect, it's more likely for the chip to still be functional because it only affected the disabled parts.
???
>In what way does turning off a part you already paid for make your device cost less,
If you try to use the full hardware, but one block on the chip is bad, you can't use it.
It is much cheaper to have an extra block or two on the chip, and then plan to always disable some even if there are no faults.
Short of the absolute top-end hardware, almost every chip produced is cut down in some way.
Nintendo doesn't pay for the chips, Nvidia does. Nvidia pays the foundry to make them chips, they then sell the functional chips to Nintendo. No one, including Nintendo, would ever buy a non-functional chip. Nvidia will take the shitty ones and rebrand them as the nano to sell that to people who want dogshit for dirt cheap prices.
The more uncertainty on where the chips end up the higher the price nvidia will demand as insurance. It does in fact effect the price even if nintendo isn't the one doing the initial purchase.
>The more uncertainty on where the chips end up the higher the price nvidia will demand as insurance. It does in fact effect the price even if nintendo isn't the one doing the initial purchase.
All this shit is agreed to years in advance. Nintendo probably agreed to the prices at least 5 years ago.
Still Nintendo isn't going to be accepting of the limited quantities you can get when you demand fault-free chips.
To hit the production volume demanded by Nintendo in the first year Nvidia will need to produce around 200k units every single week.
That would be way too many if you need every chip to the flawless.
Steam Deck for instance has its chip cut down to allow for flaws, and Valve is only getting 100k a week.
I genuinely don't know what the frick you're talking about. The switch 1's chip did not have any parts disabled. Why are you suddenly expecting the switch 2 to? In fact, go ahead and find me a single console manufacturer who has ever disabled part of the chip.
It happens with practically every chip anon. There is always more on the chip than what is delivered.
The Switch's Tegra X1 was no exception.
The part that was disabled on the original Tegra X1 (the 4 A53 CPU cores) weren't used for anything on the other devices that used the chip like the Google Pixel C and the Shield TV because you couldn't use both core types at once. It wasn't redundancy like with mlst chips, it was essentially dead silicon which they cut out completely with the X1+.
T239 is a custom chip, you complete and utter dullard.
>T239 is a custom chip, you complete and utter dullard.
It is not. It's a modified AGX Orin. The main difference is that some features specific to cars were disabled.
Drake borrows the GPC configuration of AD102 with 12 SMs rather than Orin's which have 8 SMs each. It also has completely unique hardware like a File Decompression Engine and power efficiency measures backported from Lovelace. For all intents and purposes, it has ceased to be a modified Orin and is its own, completely custom chip.
It isn't completely custom, I'm not even going to argue that because you know it isn't. 98% of the chip is the same and you know it is.
It's only the same in the most basic level of sharing the same CPU and GPU architectures, which they have to given the timing of their production. In all other respects, they are completely different chips, and you clearly have no actual grasp of the underlying technology.
Go ahead and explain how they're so different aside from removing meaningless car focused features and adding in a few minor elements of lovelace.
The completely changed CPU (3 A78AE clusters with 4 cores each in Orin vs. one 8-core A78C cluster in Drake)
The completely changed GPU structure (2 GPCs with 8 SMs each in Orin vs. 1 GPC with 12 SMs each in Drake) making Orin more similar to Nvidia's laptop GPUs and Drake more similar to Nvidia's discrete graphics cards. They're even listed as completely separate GPUs by Nvidia themselves (Orin is GA10B, Drake is GA10F)
A File Decompression Engine (which was unique to Drake before being added to Blackwell) specifically allowing game assets to be loaded much quicker as on the current-gen consoles.
Drake is almost completely divorced from Orin in form and function, pretty much only being united by Ampere as an architecture.
But Metroid Prime Remaster did happen
>Release Date: February 8, 2023
Oh damn I don't remember that. Guess it missed the holidays.
New console did get leaked on here actually
>We are working on a graphics enhancement patch for the new Nintendo Switch models that will be released alongside DLC2.
>The new Switch model I mentioned is 「次世代機」. Also, As far as I know, DLC2 is scheduled to be released in early 2024.
That's all we fricking have though.
If it runs games with visual quality comparable to the PS4 at 30fps with an inaudible fan I genuinely do not care. You don't need more. I'm already not looking forward to fire size bump that's going to come with higher resolution textures.
>30 fps
>15 fps for gamefreak games
Sub 60 fps ps4 graphics in 2025 is insane for a product expected to be sold until 2030 minimum
Graphics haven't improved since the ps4 era anyways so the only issue is the frame rate.
Imagine actually giving a frick about muh graphics in 2024
Switch 2 could be 3DS tier graphics and I'd be content
Power has historically only mattered in that the least powerful hardware of a competing class of hardware wins basically every time. Including Valves own UMPC offerings.
>create games so technologically advanced that other devs can’t even comprehend their programming genius
>on inferior portable hardware
But they’re not even trying. Okay kiddo.
>576p upscaled to 720p with FSR running at 20fps
Truly, no mortal can comprehend the programming genius of nintendo devs.
Aonuma reacting like he deserved best direction is fricking infuriating.
Because Nintendo directors are tendies themselves. So full of themselves.
why?
That wasn't his reaction at all. Do you have autism or something?
I think you're moronic
I think you are
Oh yeah? Whose reaction was it then genius? Checkmate.
>they're still running with this narritive as western gaming markets are crashing specifically because of development times due to hardware bloat
Just chalk up another nintendo win. It's all but certain.
Yeah bro glad I spent $800 on the switch
are you going to pretend to have a WiiU again?
Haha bro who cares if Nintendo ripped everyone off
do you even have a wiiu? I have one and porting games really doesnt bother me that much
You ripped yourself off paying 300 dollars for a wii tablet controller.
That's reductive. It has a triple core, 9 thread PowerPC CPU. Completely outclasses the Wii hardware and it took much engineering. Still wasn't great but it definitely isn't just a frickin controller.
Correction, I don't know where I got the 9 thread part from, the wiiu doesn't have SMT, I rembered that part wrong.
>the wii u was a commercial failure that no one bought
>Nintendo is ripping off everyone by re-releasing Wii U titles because everyone bought a Wii U
You can't have it both ways
nta but they're still ripping people off with the wii-u releases. they're ~~*basically*~~ the same games with a pitiful amount of bonus content (if any). it's not even like they remastered them btw, the graphics are literally the same. if they weren't trying to rip people off they'd either bundle two games in a release or just charge half price.
Nah ports aren't a bad thing. You're just desperate to find a reason to complain.
you payed for early access 🙂
>What dat?
>You allyeady bi game?
>You mus buy again for smarr bonus!
Wii U owners got done dirty.
>Bro, MK8’s DLC is so cheap!
>60 + 12 + 60 + 25
>tfw expected to pay $72 more than less loyal consumer
Good business, amirite?
Why did you buy games you didn't want to play?
there's 128 million people that got a switch but not a wiiu
Yeah and im not one of them moron.
If i knew the switch would be a wii u and shovelware dumping ground i would have magically teleported to 2022 and bought a steam deck instead
it's not anyone's fault that you bought it innit? besides the switch games are much better than the wiiu ones and it's not even closy
Is it time for Nintendo to follow up another successful generation with a flop? Seems to be their MO.
the steam dick runs everything via emulator, it's a shitty chinese aio
>powerful console
>Nintendo
You serious? If the Switch is setting trends, the next gen is going to suck for reasons completely unrelated to console power.
>family computer
>isn't a computer
>doesn't come with a family
nintendo entertainment system assembly line, Redmond, Washington 1990
The funniest part is there are people who argued a Switch Lite wouldn't happen because it would kill the point of the Switch even though the Lite still does tabletop and the Switch is simply a fricking handheld that can connect to your TV.
Imagine being so brainwashed by advertising and logos.
dude its literally NAMED the switch what do you mean brainwashed
It absolutely is a computer, it just has a very limited operating system and peripheral support
They released a keyboard and BASIC for it, allowing users to write their own programs. You could even save and load programs to cassette tapes.
It 100% meets the definition of a computer.
They're definitely not gonna try competing in the graphics space, because why would they? Most people don't really care for ULTRA HD 4K RAYTRACED GRAFIX anyway.
They'll probably give it a small spec bump, with more focus on RAM and shit.
I don't think people are expecting parity with current gen but they really need to step up the performance. shit like MK1 is also partially on the devs but the system specs are a real problem
Most people definitely do care about graphics, it's why so many games have traded 60fps for it. People can't see the fps in ads for games so they show graphics instead. And if the graphics aren't good enough people b***h. And if the graphics get downgraded at all for any reason, including to massively increase performance, people b***h. And if the graphics don't get better with every release people b***h.
We saw this happen when people who have never used a PS3 accused Dragon's Dogma 2 of having PS3-tier graphics because it committed the sin of not having more budget and time and employees for graphics.
No one cares about people who don't care about games, least of all Nintendo.
just give me 60 fps without the games running like garbage please
60 fps are for skill issued morons and graphic prostitutes
yeah every game should have choppy fps like the pokemon games on switch
bingtendies already coping lmao just buy a real system already
Theyll buy it again. And again. And again.
Its actual cult like behavior anon.
no regard for quality
unless its the GC, n64, WiiU, virtual boy, early 3DS...
nintendo would like a handheld that has a battery life of more than 2hrs
also DLSS is going to make switch2 more impressive than steam deck despite weaker specs
No. No it won't.
That's not how dlss works, but it doesn't matter anyway since the Switch 2 won't have it since it's a waste of die space.
ITS DEFINITELY HAPPENING THIS TIME GUYS AND NINTENDO IS DEFINITELY FINISHED
The only trademark that should exist is Nintendodoomed™ and Nintendo should post it every time someone claims their handhelds are doomed.
>nintendo console: you will get great exclusives
>steam dick: you will get no exclusives and play on something shittier than your laptop
dick: you will get no exclusives and play But what if it was a (Windows) laptop?
If this is yours what is it like, I enjoy my oled deck a lot, but messing around with the linux part of it is really exhausting and I'd really like the extra power
There's tradeoffs. The battery doesn't last as long and it's heavier, but it's a Windows tablet which m,akes up for a lot.
The joycon acting as a mouse isn't a gimmick, it actually works really well, but I think it's better for rts/strat games like EU4 or TW then fps games.
The Lenovo Go has 2 usb4's, so you can hook up e-gpu's, it also supports twice the resolution. I think it's just a better system overall, but I think the Deck is good enough, if you don't need the extra performance there's no reason to drop almost $800 if all you're doing is using Steam games. If you're doing anything else though, or you want those higher fps/settings the LeGo is better.
And how much does those higher resolutions affect the performance? And how does it look like if you decide to keep it at 800p like the deck, for me with the deck how games look vary wildly, some look sharp, clear and detailed while others look blurry and as if there was a bad ai upscaler going on, making stuff look oddly low res and even pixelated for a resolution I don't feel should be a problem, so many games forcing anti aliasing doesn't help either.
Performance is pretty good, probably among the best except for some chiner brands no one cares about.
>nintendo console
>exclusives
I'm going to be shocked if Nintendo's next console comes out and it's still weaker than ps4 and xbox one, it'd be a very bad mistake and make porting near impossible to port current gen games
>the company is going to be dead in the water soon
this time for sure
It's not even thursday, why are there so many famitsutrannies roleplaying?
Which post bothered you the most? I hope it was mine
Calm down eric, you're not that important.
>respond to anonymous poster by his Christian name
>”you’re not that important”
Yeah.
Trying is in the games, not the power. The best games are 8-bit.
32-bit*
They're not trying because they don't have to. Tendies will slurp up anything Nintendo shits out as long as they can bing bing wahoo and Nintendo knows it. Their arrogance and contempt for their consumer base has never been more on display.
>Tendies will slurp up anything Nintendo shits out
>Their arrogance and contempt for their consumer base has never been more on display.
True, good thing they're like 15 years behind everyone else though, right?
pretty much
pointless to care. at best tyou can enjoy some tears from time to time but that's it
If the games are fun I really don't care, I'll buy it.
I can't wait to emulate Switch 2 games on my Deck
You don't think Nintendo will lock that shit down after the fallout of the og Switch getting hacked?
You might be waiting a few years for that one bud.
They can lock down piracy if they try, but if they release another underpowered machine, emulation will happen really fast just like it did with all the other underpowered machines they've released
power is not a point that helps emulation. the PS5 is pretty weak compared to the most common GPU on the market and people aren't even trying to emulate it. the PS4 took until this year to get an emulator
the ps5 can't be emulated well because it has extra dedicated hardware for processing data that pc's don't have. the switch doesn't have any of that, and neither will the next console.
Blue Ocean Strat, morono. They go for low costs and competition
Nintendo needs to retire
why? theyre the only ones making games
If Nintendo are so far behind why is their gaming division the only profitable one LMAO
brb playing monster hunter in bed loooooool
Sony are making profit with the PS5 and the PS5 Pro is coming soon
>Sony are making profit with the PS5
source?
They're making profit out of scalpers. Nintendo is making profit because people are having fun.
Just fyi a scalper needs another buyer to resell to.
Because besides the worthless NoA branch they haven't gone full GAASlighting MTX DEI ESG trashery to drive people away? What kind of moronic question is this?
They let everyone else push the envelope and over time follow slowly once the line in the sand has been drawn, therefore getting worse themselves as time goes on but not so bad as to cause massive backlash.
More importantly they also still make games.
Why are there articles about how strong it is when no journalist knows the specs?
Journalists need content.
When you guys will fricking learn? Nintendo will never ever try a "just more power" way again after the game cube, accept it already.
They honestly don't need to, they win by not selling hardware at a loss and having complete dominance over the kids and family market.
isn't the Steam Deck like 5 years old and already underpowered on release? nintendo bros will never get to play any of the fun new releases at this point
Can't miss out on what doesn't exist in the other spaces anyway.
Basically only Nintendo and indies are making what you've just mentioned and the rest are 15+ years old.
>5 years old
2
Nintendo has zero reason to make a competent console anymore. They can continue making underpowered, overpriced, pieces of shit because they know their fanbase will buy whatever. Hope you guys are ready for another console where 90% of the library is games you've already played at least half a dozen times.
yeah but now I get to play them nude snug in my bed
>switch 2 is gonna be a wii u 2
>their fanbase will buy whatever
i love the diverse shitposts around the switch 2
No, they still have reasons. If they take their foot off the gas they risk getting taken over by mobile shit.
Trying too hard
he's right though
No she isn't.
there's no way shitch 2 is going to be as successful as shitch
Oh hey Eric arrived
>No argument
I accept your concession, tendie
>he's taken back, "I've been found out" he cries
Why do tendies call everybody not inside their cult "Eric"?
Because theyre schizos that think everyone that doesnt like Nintendo is a sony worshipper
obsessed
Is this "Eric" in the room with us right now?
Yeah.
?
It's on the Steam Deck you moronic tendie
Yeah I saw that
Cope and seethe all Nintendo games play betteron the Steam Deck.
I disagree. See
Show me how the Xenoblade game run now.
I don't know what I did differently but the game ran at like 40 fps for me and suddenly it's an almost perfect 60
Nothing, it was probably just compiling shaders at first. Once you got through that the game runs as it should.
Ohh I should have specified more, I tried it first and then again like a month or two later when any other switch game I've tried has worked the same always
Everybody commenting on this thread and complaining will still buy their Tendie slop regardless. Gotta play the next Mario!, the next Zelda!, the next Pokemon!. Can't walk away!, can't just play something else!.
I NEED RING FIT ADVENTURE 2!
As opposed to...? The next dark souls!, the next god of war!, the next assassin's creed!, or the same boring old games like minecraft and factorio that you've played for the last 10+ years?
But those have the potential to be great unlike Nintendo slop which are always shit
I don't get it. is playing new games a bad thing now?
sims is so high? crazy
only in a sense that all new games today are bad.
The Steamdeck is a little less powerful than the PS4, and the limitations are from it being x86 to play PC games.
This is going to be the third generation of a Nintendo console being in PS3 territory power-wise.
>Another shit system with WiiU ports
It'll sell anyways.
When has nintendo ever "tried"? No matter how shitty their hardware is, the games will save it. Even if the games are bad, there are enough nintendo cultists to keep nintendo afloat through another wii u-like period
Nintendo sisters... When are we going to win?
stfu they've been winning since the 80's.
Usually 8 out of every 9 years or so. Why?
It's a lot stronger than the steam deck, primarily in docked mode. This isn't an opinion we know this from the Nvidia hack. It's 12SM compared to the 8SM on the steam deck and features DLSS. Factoring in DLSS it should be around 2-2.5x stronger. Handheld mode will be more comparable obviously but I don't think people really care that much about performance in handheld.
Dlss is not extra power you fricking moron.
>Dlss is not extra power you fricking moron.
Yes it is you shit for brains, it lets you run the game in a lower resolution freeing up more power for everything else. Normally taking a switch 2 game from 1080p and pushing it up to 4k would take ~3x more power but with DLSS they can just keep running it at 1080p and upscale to 4k. The question is just how aggressively they're going to upscale games. But it's safe to say that if the console is 3.2 tflops which is around the expectation that should AT LEAST be equivalent to 5tflops without DLSS, which is a big upgrade from the steam deck.
Nvidia shills get the rope.
Get with the times grandpa, AMD and Intel have both developed their own solution. The PS5 pro is also going to have built in AI upscaling tech.
Kek I can already see Nintendo running their games in 240p 3DS native resolution and letting upscalers do the rest and dump the fricked up blurry picture right on your screen
>Factoring in DLSS it should be around 2-2.5x stronger
I blame Steve Jobs for this.
dlss isn't as effective when the output resolution is low like the switch is so the performance bump won't be as significant when going from 720p non-dlss to dlss compared to something like 1080p non-dlss to dlss.
No.
Per-console optimization is a thing of the past.
All consoles have completely generic and standard architecture now.
>Nintendo
>known for selling underpowered hardware for overpriced prices
>"BUT THIS TIME IT WILL BE DIFFERENT!!"
Man tendies really are another breed.
They will just buy Nvidia's scraps and sell it for 350 to you AGAIN
>350
more like $400. Also $70 shovelware as """games"""
Most funny thing is how they all believe how this DLSS "magic" will save them while all being absolute tech illiterates
>Most funny thing is how they all believe how this DLSS "magic" will save them while all being absolute tech illiterates
DLSS is a benefit but the biggest beneficiary to the switch 2 is diminishing returns. The vast majority of games this generation are on PS4, and most of the ones that aren't could be on PS4 and just aren't because of exclusivity agreements. In general handheld devices are gaining a lot from this factor, because it's decreasing the value in the increased power of a home console.
>no source for anything other than a Digital Foundry speculation video
What's the point of this article?
clicks
and Ganker got baited
>Midori retweeted it
It's over
At this point I don't even care. Nintendo hamstringing the industry and "holding it up" with tech just means the autistic sacrificial ritual of gameplay depth and content variety in search of more hyperrealistic graphics just so we can see trannies in 16K with a gorillion polygons is fine with me
if the next nintendo system doesn't do 32K 240fps, it's dead to me
It will do 32k colors in 240p for sure
>It will do 32k colors
that's a stretch anon
The idea the switch 2 is going to be as strong as a steam deck in docked can be disproven just by looking at the power draw. The steam deck draws around 10 watts on average, similar to the switch 1. Nintendo, like every other gaming company, has *always* increased power draw in every successor they've ever done.
The DS uses 2 watts while the 3DS uses 4 watts
The Wii averaged 15 watts while the Wii U averaged 32 watts
The Gameboy averaged .7 watts while the GBA averaged 1.8 watts
It's pretty safe to expect the switch 2 docked power draw will push up to at least 15 watts, but closer to 20 feels more in line with their previous consoles. Increasing power draw is just an easy way to make the successor more appealing. This can easily be achieved by making the console physically larger and also using a larger fan.
This system might be the combo breaker on that.
If the Switch averaged 7 watts, this system might drop back to 5. Still getting a power boost over the older system, but not the major jump some people are expecting.
Nintendo's challenge is to make a system that is somehow even more of a mainstream success than the Switch, and a power jump isn't likely to do that. Just look at the PS5 and whatever the current Xbox is compared to the older systems. All those systems had was the power bump and it wasn't really enough.
Expect them to make it a cheap toy that makes sense for everyone to buy.
>Expect them to make it a cheap toy that makes sense for everyone to buy.
But "everyone" didn't buy the switch 1. It sold mainly to adults aged 20-40, particularly the core demographic of video game hobbyists. If they want to appeal to that demographic a large power leap makes sense, and that's what the Nvidia hack showed. It also lines up with what we've hard of a larger screen.
Here's a picture someone made adjusting for the screen size we know the switch 2 is using. The middle picture is what the switch 2 should look like size wise and you can compare it to the steam deck.
>But "everyone" didn't buy the switch 1. It sold mainly to adults aged 20-40, particularly the core demographic of video game hobbyists.
You mean women, trannies and children?
Believe whatever makes you feel the most comfortable
>You mean women, trannies and children?
You could boil it down to children and groomers
>But "everyone" didn't buy the switch 1
My point exactly. The Switch was not a cheap toy, it was a big expensive large tablet compared to the usual Nintendo system.
>the middle one is what the switch 2 should look like size wise based on the leaked screen size.
No, think smaller bezels, and more Apple-like industrial design.
If anything they will make the system smaller, and more easily portable again.
There is no "usual nintendo system"1
>There is no "usual nintendo system"1
Because Nintendo just buys the cheapest parts currently available lmao
Glad we agree there is no usual Nintendo system. Thanks for conceding to my only point.
You say that like we didn't have decades of Nintendo handhelds.
Switch was an anomaly because the system jumped up in size, the price jumped up, and it couldn't easily fit into a pocket because of the analog sticks.
>No, think smaller bezels, and more Apple-like industrial design.
Nah, I think it's pretty accurate to the size. The orin is a massive chip compared to the tegra x1. It points to a physically larger console to fit it. Small bezels seems like one of those things Nintendo wouldn't bother with in order to keep the price down.
>The orin is a massive chip compared to the tegra x1. It points to a physically larger console to fit it
What the frick am I reading
Where is the connection between the die size of an SOC and the actual physical size of a console?
basically nothing, a die-shrink means better power consumption and heat under load more than it means an actual physical size reduction
Die die is literally has a few cms in size you absolute tech illiterates
It's so funny reading what "explanations" you morons come up with
>Where is the connection between the die size of an SOC and the actual physical size of a console?
The SOC has to go inside the console, they don't tape it on the outside. If they're increasing the size of the chip it's likely that the size of everything has to increase. You need a bigger battery to power it for more than 2 hours. You need a bigger screen to justify the increased power. You need a bigger fan to cool it. You need a bigger shell to spread heat better. If they wanted a switch 1 sized system they would not have gone with the Orin.
Orin Nano with a die shrink isn't going to be that big, and it already had a 5-10 watt TDP. That is easily going to fit in a compact handheld.
>Orin Nano with a die shrink isn't going to be that big, and it already had a 5-10 watt TDP. That is easily going to fit in a compact handheld.
It's not using the Nano. Firstly, the hack said which chip it's based on, the AGX Orin, which is a 5tflop chip for cars (it's obviously going to be underclocked so no, it wont be 5tflops). Secondly, the nano isn't a real chip. They take the shitty binned chips made when making the Orin and then sell them at a lower price as the Nano, it's a marketing trick. These chips cant be reliably produced and wont exist when Nvidia stops producing the Orin.
>They take the shitty binned chips
Again, that's my point. For bulk production they always cut the chips down in order to increase the yield.
You are not getting a 60watt full Orin chip in a Nintendo handheld.
They'll effectively fab a Orin NX, and they'll cut it down into something between the two Orin Nano chips. Like a 768:24:2 core configuration and clocked to deliver 1TFLOP at 5 watts.
>You are not getting a 60watt full Orin chip in a Nintendo handheld.
The AGX Orin caps out at 40, but average is probably more like 25-30. Die shrink that down to like 15 and then underclock it down to like 10 and that's viable in docked if they increase the overall powerdraw from around 10 to around 18-20 watts. All sounds plausible to me. Of course they wont be getting 5tflops of performance, but around 3tflops is definitely achievable. This will require the console to be quite a bit larger than the switch 1 but they can do that.
>This will require the console to be quite a bit larger than the switch 1 but they can do that.
Honestly cannot see them doing that. It would result in the system selling a lot less units.
They are going to up the build quality, drop the TDP, and make a more mainstream system.
A system that parents will be less reluctant to buy for kids, and that more people will be more likely to carry every day.
iPad mini looks with much weaker hardware (but still stronger than the Switch) and Nintendo gamepad controls is my expectation.
>Honestly cannot see them doing that. It would result in the system selling a lot less units.
People said the exact same thing about the switch 1. So many people said it would bomb because it was too large, it wasn't portable enough, kids wouldn't like it. No one fricking cared.
Switch sold well mostly on the fact it was Nintendo's sole system, and they launched the Lite fairly quickly.
If they want a strong follow up system, they need to differentiate it, expand the audience, and make it even more mainstream.
They'll have some gimmick that makes it even more portable.
Don't get me wrong I love my Steam Deck in part because of the larger size and how much more comfortable that is in my hands, but the Deck is a system for a relatively niche audience.
Nintendo isn't going to chase that.
>If they want a strong follow up system, they need to differentiate it, expand the audience, and make it even more mainstream.
>They'll have some gimmick that makes it even more portable.
People always say this but it isn't true. The GBA was just the gameboy but stronger and it was outpacing the Gameboy in sales before the DS ended its life cycle early. Nintendo's handhelds are remarkably consistent even without weird gimmicks.
>The GBA was just the gameboy but stronger
It had additional buttons, the changed device form factor, and of course the 'gimmick' of being able to run ported SNES games.
The Switch itself looks more like the GBA in that regard. Its gimmick was Nintendo made it the only system they were selling and were able to repackage a bunch of games from their previous consoles that wouldn't have worked in the past.
Now that have a more difficult problem in getting people on to what's next, and the most likely thing to me seems something like GBA -> DS Lite.
A smaller increase in power than some people wanted, but issues addressed, and changes to give it more mainstream appeal.
>and of course the 'gimmick' of being able to run ported SNES games.
Yeah and the switch 2 has the 'gimmick' of being able to run ported PS5/PS4 games (the switch barely even got any PS4 ones).
>Yeah and the switch 2 has the 'gimmick' of being able to run ported PS5/PS4 games
PS4 games likely yes. I would doubt the ability to run PS5 ports (what even is there to port?). To handle PS4 games it doesn't even need to be that much stronger.
>I would doubt the ability to run PS5 ports (what even is there to port?)
I expect it to have the next Monster Hunter and Dragon Quest in the launch year. In fact, I'm pretty sure this is why Square wont talk about Dragon Quest at all - they're going to unveil it at the switch 2 reveal.
Also, sorry for the double reply but we know from the very reliable Persona leaker that it's getting Persona 6. That's an example of a PS5 game running on the switch 2.
Or perhaps a Switch 2 game that is also going to be released on a stronger system simply running at a higher resolution/framerate?
One of the attractions of Nintendo's relatively weaker platforms, is lower investment to produce games relative to the competition.
They kind of can't do that. The great thing about the deck is you can sync your games with your pc library. And can continue to do so until the end of time. Nintendo will still ask for nso payments and you'll only have backwards compatibility one generation behind.
Sorry I forgot the image. Again, the middle one is what the switch 2 should look like size wise based on the leaked screen size.
You should have used an oled instead.
>bigger
please stop
It's guaranteed to be bigger. They can't cram in hardware that'd be worth a damn while keeping it the same size.
gimmie the switch 2 micro or I ain't buying.
In other news,
Steam deck will continue to emulate switch 2.
Steam chad wins again.
>Steam deck will continue to emulate switch 2.
Based on Yuzu you're gonna need about a 13-14tflop system to emulate the switch 2, and you're definitely going to need an Nvidia card because no way are you going to be able to emulate DLSS and Nvidia's raytracing solution without that. So good luck with that. Maybe the steam deck 4 will emulate switch 2.
Oh hey guess the shitch2 is confirmed to be another Wii u
Not really.
and it'll still struggle to run the games in my existing Switch library lmao ffs Nintendo is shit
>the great preemptive copening begins
thats an interesting way to say it'll be a gamecube again this time with one (1) gig more RAM
bro the switch is a bit more powerful than a PS3 what kind of cope is this
Then why does PS3 ports run like shit?
Bayonetta runs better on Switch than it does on PS3/360. What on earth are you comparing?
Because you touch yourself at night
Nintendies will NOT accept battery life as shit as the Deck. And there's no way to avoid that without reducing hardware performance.
as if "poor battery life running BOTW" wasn't a launch era complaint
>Nintendies will NOT accept battery life as shit as the Deck. And there's no way to avoid that without reducing hardware performance.
There is a method, it's called making the console larger. Larger console = bigger battery, pretty straight forward actually.
imagine making a handheld bigger than the deck
might as will make a nintendo branded gaming laptop
>imagine making a handheld bigger than the deck
>might as will make a nintendo branded gaming laptop
It doesn't even need to be as large as the deck. Docked mode can draw more power by plugging into the wall. The steam deck is already massively bigger than the switch 1 but draws a similar amount of power. A physically larger switch 2 can draw more power than the deck in docked mode. There are ways to deal with heat like sticking a small fan in the dock.
that's if they don't do some weird shit like having a second screen, or the dock has a screen and connects to your tv wirelessly
that's impossible and incorrect, WTFF TECH!
No matter what it is you'll be disappointed.
What are your favorite switch games?
is botw or totk the better game?
>switch
>games
Mario Kart or something
1-2 switch
>What are your favorite switch games?
Ring Fit adventure
>is botw or totk the better game?
Totk is better, but it's cause i like building death machines
Minecraft
Why is he so mad? Nobody said anything about sony
If Nintendo wanted they could make systems that compete with everything else. The day they choose to compete with shit like Microsoft and Sony is the day you know the Nintendo has lost touch with itself. Nintendo doesn’t care about following suit. They literally set trends. Nintendo will be fine and whatever the switch 2 is will probably sell just as well. And even if it’s not that powerful I’ll bet you companies will do whatever to port shit on it.
>playstation has stellar blade
>nintendo has...princess peach showtime?
yea no wonder they're launching a new console literally wii u 2.0 lmao
has...
...games like princess peach showtime.
You do you bro
doing me is stellar blade
Nice. Enjoy!
We know almost for a fact that the switch 2 is on a newer process node than the steam deck. We know this because the switch 2 has 12sm compared to the 8cu of the steam deck, meaning if the switch 2 APU is made on the same process, then it will have to be about 1.5x bigger than the steam deck which it probably isn't for obvious reasons.
Someone post the Nintendo vs Sony profit graph
>fake data
nice
Then show a real graph
>Nintendo: 17
>Sony: 8
Snoys, your response?
>sony lost in profit during the PS1 and PS2 era
how?
Fake graph, that's how
Believe whatever makes you feel the most comfortable
The PS3 was and still is very expensive to make. It's anywhere from $900 down to $500 depending on the revision.
>gameboy and gameboy advance games sales
everyone forgot they made bank with handhelds
As long as it has games, it will do fine. Switch steamrolls the Shit Deck in terms of games worth playing cause pc has fricking nothing
Deck plays switch games grandpa.
Switch plays more switch games
which good ones don't run on deck?
Probably figure this out before making false statements
I have it figured out the answer is; none.
Sure.
Name one then.
For what purpose?
Are you moronic or something?
No. Are you?
Read your own post homie
That's true. Steam Deck can't emulate every switch exclusive.
Which ones?
What will answering this question accomplish? You're just going to say those games are bad.
Thats because they are bad.
I disagree.
Doesn't make a difference. You're not the entirety of players.
They don't.
>They don't.
so why is it the only modern console with functioning emulators? why are some of those emulators being paid by PC owners? why do I see multiple videos on Youtube of people making tutorials about said emulators?
We're talking about people wanting to play good games you moron not people wanting to play bad games holy shit learn how to read.
Doesn't make a difference. You're not the entirety of players. Tough pill coming. Open up.
>We're talking about people wanting to play good games
and that's why there's a race to play nintendo games on PC
No you don't get it. See, PC vegans can't play some switch games because they're bad, not because they can't get them working. Wew glad we got that out of the way. No off to selling ocean front property in Arizona.
They can't play some switch games because emulators aren't perfect. Most games aren't worth playing and are quickly forgotten and never downloaded again. All the good games already run fine on emulators because most games run fine since switch emulation has had so much progress over the years, not to mention that almost every emulator reaches like 99% compatibility anyway outside of edge cases like xbox. Maybe try addressing the points people are making instead of just making up imaginary strawmen to complain about.
Thank you for conceding that steam deck cant play every switch game. That was my only point.
really because it seemed to be
>games worth playing
in the beginning which would make more sense as to why you would be arguing with someone who made it explicitly clear he only cared about good games two posts in
>which good ones don't run on deck?
(thats after 1 clarification for anyone lost)
>someone who made it explicitly clear he only cared about good games two posts in
Doesn't make a difference. They're not the entirety of players.
Oh okay so you're just a certified moron without a point. Heres your last (You)
I disagree
you seem to be lost here
I'm not
Okay then you just act exactly like someone who is.
if they are bad why do people want to emulate them so much?
hopefully you get sacrificed instead
Doesn't make a difference. You're not the entirety of players.
that one really buttblasted you huh?
Not really. I was just pointing out your dishonest hypocrisy.
Theres no hypocrisy because I was talking about the gamers as a whole not my personal opinion. Also that wouldn't even be hypocrisy I think the phrase you're looking for is more akin to "taste of your own medicine" but that wouldn't even apply here since you're too moronic to address my posts in the context they were posted in.
>Theres no hypocrisy because I was talking about the gamers as a whole not my personal opinion
I was talking about gamers as a whole as well.
Nontendo has been playing around with advanced AI upscaling, the system won't need to have raw power if it can reliably upscale the software up to 4k.
>The Nintendo Switch has sold 131.25 million units through October 2023. The PS5 is 85.88 million units behind lifetime Switch sales. A life-long and avid gamer, William D'Angelo was first introduced to VGChartz in 2007.Dec 1, 2023

That's because the PS5 is missing a ton of flagships such as
>GTAVI
>Uncharted
>A new TLOU
>A new Ghost of Tsushima
Once these games are released, the PS5 will be selling like hotcakes
Doesn’t really matter. They port so many old games on switch and Nintendo players tend to be casual anyway. That’s the appeal and that’s why Nintendo will always outsell because it appeals to more people not just autistic man children who want next Gen graphics with last Gen gameplay
uncharted is over dude
The thing about Nintendo hardware and power is Nintendo usually goes with whatever hardware is the most affordable at the price Nintendo want to sell. So Nintendo had a great deal with nVidia Tegra chips. And because of the Switch's success nVidia would want to cut a deal with Nintendo to have competition in the AMD owned console market. So the question is which nVidia chips are cheap enough Nintendo can buy for the next system that has enough power for their new portable/hybrid gimmick? And porting should be easier than ever due to how nVidia drivers work.
>So the question is which nVidia chips are cheap enough Nintendo can buy for the next system that has enough power for their new portable/hybrid gimmick?
Nvidia only has two chips Nintendo can potentially buy because they're the only chips they're selling in the mobile sphere. Orin and Thor. Thor is the successor to Orin and would make the switch to 700 dollars. So it's going to be Orin.
Note: Thor isn't actually out yet but will be when the switch 2 is out
NTA but they could work with a custom chip no?
>NTA but they could work with a custom chip no?
No, they cant. Developing a new chip is extremely expensive. If they were paying for such an expensive chips development that would be reflecting in their R&D costs which it isn't so they aren't.
Wait didn't Nintendo pay R&D for NVidia? I remember that being on the news back then. That's why they'll probably get a discount for the new chips other than bulk purchase is what I thought.
If you are Nintendo, and you are going to Nvidia with an order for likely at a minimum 20 million units in 2 years you really can have any hardware you want cheap as long as it can be easily manufactured at high yields.
The thing is Nintendo does not want to face difficulties from a new architecture, and they want a chip that can go into a very small system that will sip power so the cut down Orin rumor really seems quite credible.
nintendo has never tried to compete in the arms race moron
Didn't they do that with the gamecube and failed?
If Nintendo was trying to compete in the arms race then the switch 2 would have launched in 2022 when the Orin came out. By early 2025, that chip is going to be almost 3 years old. In no way is a 3tflop chip in 2025 "competing in the arms race." The only real difference between this and the switch 1 is that the switch 2 appears to be physically bigger.
The arms race is fricking dead anyway. AAA is imploding with the cost of making games and game performance and looks aren't improving that much with diminishing returns and shit devs not knowing optimization. trying to participate in the arms race is a fools errand.
>AAA is imploding with the cost of making games
any day now
a $200m budget is not sustainable.

if i was nintendo i'd make the screen 16:10 or 5:4 and then have the software go to 16:9 when docked. for me the switch is hard to use portable.
i hope this isn’t true, it should be equal performance
No one cares for a e-peen waving apple-like brand like steam and the sneed deck, a system that sells 1/10 of the Switch is not competition
just buy one those "portable" PC shitbricks made for brown people moron, nintendo doesn't need a gorillionm of memeflops to develop their games
Why are tendies always thinking about black people?
Frick it, I'm just going to buy a deck then. I'm not waiting for this just to be a disappointment and there's no goddamn games this year anyway.
The newest intel integrated APUs are 4.3tflops, probably running on a similar process to the switch 2. I don't see how Nintendo getting 3 tflops in docked is some insane task when these non-gaming laptops are already doing 4.3tflops now.
can wait to see Ganker meldown when the switch 2 outsells all the steam deck, odin, ayaneo, rogrally and those other turds sales combined
Nintendo is using the 5flop AGX Orin. This is not a debate, it isn't an argument. That's the chip we saw in the Nvidia hack, all the elements of the device were almost 1 to 1 from that chip. Nvidia has no other chips to sell Nintendo and a new one would take many years to make.
IT'S A PORTABLE!
IF YOU ARE EVEN THINKING ABOUT A FRICKING *PORTABLE* IN TERMS OF "POWER" THEN YOU ARE OUT OF TOUCH WITH REALITY.
I'd sacrifice portability for every game not running and looking like ass
I won't try buying it either.
What I'm guessing is that they're going to upscale from 240p with DLSS 3
Why is it so hard for Nintendo to just make a console that's at least as powerful as the current-gen Sony and Microsoft consoles? Why does everything have to be gimmicks?
The did in fact the gamecube was arguably the most powerful of its generation, the other contender being the xbox neither of which was even remotely close to the ps2 in terms of sales. Also every single nintendo console has sold less then the last other than the wii and the switch you do the math.
Nintendo pissed off devs with their mini disc bullshit in true Nintendo fashion.
Why would you develop for Nintendo when Playstation 2 is right there?
and? the console was still more powerful than the others
tbf nintendo was actually heavily restrictive with third parties since the nes one of their infamous policies being each company could only have a limited number of games so they had to establish shell companies (imagine doing this to deal with some other companies policy made on a whim) so yea we've never actually seen a world where nintendo was competing with all variables being equal.
you talk as if the entire western game industry wasn't burning over bloated game budgets and the insane graphics run. the modern gen consoles can't run most of their games at 60 fps
Don't care.
I honestly cant even imagine switch 2 being as popular as the switch
Switch already has so many good games I dont think normalgays would care that much
I can. Nintendo actually has some brand loyalty now. Also switch was underpowered as shit it would be nice to play games on a modern console for once. Not to mention the fact that most nintendo franchises still haven't been revisited and a lot of the ones who have have just been watered down (mario party and mario sports come to mind) I still haven't bought a switch despite being a nintendo fan. The only game that really excites me is metroid dread and arms looked interesting but wasn't that fun to play I think it really needed some more work and should not have been a launch title. I guess you could count astral chain too but action games are kinda a dime a dozen now.
>Also switch was underpowered as shit it would be nice to play games on a modern console for once
That's an issue thats been fixed for years now
Okay yea but thats not gonna make me buy switch. If anything it hurts it.
Slow day at the call center?
No.
The Switch was turbocharged by AC and the coof. The only way for any console to even approach that success is another coof.
That's an optimization problem, not an industry problem. The solution is paying pajeet-tier wages to pajeet-tier programmers.
>That's an optimization problem,
quite the opposite. it's a non optimization problem. "strong hardware" and "no limitations" make sure that developers don't know, or even think they need, to optimize the code. after all "the hardware will brute force it". I'm not saying that the hardware needs to be shit but we don't have real gains from extremely strong hardware because most of the developers themselves don't really care
That's why their wages should be cut. If they don't care about doing their jobs, they should be paid accordingly.
well that's now how it works. you're paid accordingly to your position. if you're not making a good job it's your employer that should fire you
it's actually pretty sad that even with crunch we're getting the abominations that we have today. I guess not everybody can be rockstar but come the frick on
Yeah surely it's just the devs fricking off right crunch doesn't exist they just jerk off and sleep instead of work, fricking moron
>just jerk off and sleep instead of work
It sure fricking looks like it.
>The Switch was turbocharged by AC and the coof
every company grew in the pandemic. the software sales show that the environment for the console is pretty healthy
I think the Switch 2 could be their "Playstation 2 moment" if they play their cards right.
IMO the two things they 100% need to get right are a killer launch lineup and a good price.
The PS2 also played DVDs at the time everyone was upgrading, though. The Switch 2 (or any other console) just can't offer that kind of vfm nowadays.
They're probably gonna just put out mario kart, 3d mario mp4, a new pokemon and maybe some other obscure series thats being worked on in the timeline that people forget about. Then everything else will be part of a generous "launch window"
Just wait for deck 2 then
>reportedly
>sources say
>according to someone familiar with the specs
>based on rumors
>says my uncle who works at nintendo
how are they still doing this? one person makes up a rumor, then everyone else uses that rumor as their source for their article, then the next guy uses that second hand source.
been known a long time my guy
https://xkcd.com/978/
I know it's known about. I'm just amazed that people are still doing it and still falling for it
And they'll keep falling for it for another hundred years only difference is ai will be citing each other
Nintendo should port all their shit to phones.
having a dedicated hardware just for games in current year is moronic.
no one cares about the gimmicks they make like 2 games that use them and aren't even good
>inb4 NPCs going against it's own interests
>touchscreen controls
kys
are you moronic? literally any controller can be paired with phones/pc
>to phones
have a nice day Rajeesh.
any phone is better than your overpriced 2017 tablet
Nintendo doesn't even need to try to win.
This guy hates video games. Why was he the CEO of Nintendo????
>that 2017 newbie
and yet they are still winning
Why would they? Their fanbase will slurp up any old shit they crap out.
Nintendos actually trying really hard right now.
How can you play games meant for kids that are easy as frick? wtf even
minecraft is pretty fun
I just want for it to have new games i wamt to play. They got me with BotW, so they'll need to have something good for launch.
Im sure thats gonna be the case. They surely learnt they lesson that they cant launch a machine with low budget shit like nintendoland or new super mario bros and expect people to run to the store.
>new super mario bros
for this one specifically yes they can only problem is most people had no idea the wii u was even a console or that it existed at all
So whats the lore behind tendies not being able to have basic conversations and just autistically recycling the same phrases?
Nintendo india marketers plus pedophiles
The nintendies outside of internet are pretty normal
Ganker solved this problem with email maybe we could just settle for flags
The last thing snoys want is flag IDs.
no the last thing snoys want is gay IDs
?
use your words
what words exactly?
Why are journos so mindbroken by the Switch 2?
>"Leaks" Switch 2
>Nintendo delayed the system to make us look bad!
>We literally don't know anything about the Switch 2
>SWITCH 2 IS AS STRONG AS AS PS4 (and thats a X thing)
>SWITCH 2 IS WORSE THAN STEAM DECK
>why are people who make money off news panicking about no news
Journos are Snoys
Switch 2 isn't even out yet and they're already coping.
switch didn't even outsell the ps2 and ten year olds took a victory lap
Hey thanks for granting permission to run victory lap swhen it does. It will be epic.
Is Eric the most based man alive?
>never been raped
>wins
can't think of anyone better
Watch it anon, Eric bans people who talk about him.
Watch it outsell literally everything. Most people I know already own 2 Switches.
>It doesn't matter that it's weak, it'll have bespoke optimisation
The greatest game of all time (a Nintendo game) runs at 240p and 20 FPS.
That's it. That's all you need. If the Switch 2 can handle that, I'm snug as a bug.
Nintendo are smart, they understand that games are not about graphics.
>nintendo are smart
>released the wii u
>Has access to DLSS
Honestly, if it can hit 2 TFLOPS of rasterization GPU performance, has a 2 GHz CPU and 8 GB of RAM, it's over.
DLSS performs so much better than FSR, it's not even funny
couldn't it in theory have both? since FSR isn't AI based and seemed to make things sharper
Yes but if Nintendo is going to bother paying extra for Turing cores to be on the chip (since they're on their own section, not with the CUDA cores), then they might as well get some use out of them.
And, more importantly, DLSS and FSR basically have all the same inputs, DLSS just performs better since its using specialized hardware and a more sophisticated model
> seemed to make things sharper
The two big issues with FSR is that it utilizes the same resources as rasterization (meaning that in order to use FSR, you have to give up some processing that would otherwise be used to render the internal frame faster) and that it doesn't resolve nearly as many artifacts as DLSS does (for instance, DLSS is MUCH better on anti-aliasing than FSR generally)
Not having to spend $300,000,000 to make a game is Nintendo's strength. And lesser hardware allows them to get away with that.
ahahahaha idort chads laughing from our towers at you peasants bickering over which console you had to choose because you could only afford one
it will use DLSS and Nvidia card
It will also have optimized exclusives as opposed to shitty ports
that alone makes it already more powerful than shitdeck
