If the system is backwards compatible, there's no reason for them to not let you use Joycons, especially sp they can keep compatibility with games like Labo or Ring Fit or the upcoming Wario Ware. They connect with Bluetooth, it's not a proprietary expensive technology.

Making you buy new controllers sounds like a simple enough reason to me.
You think they'd block the system from connecting to Joycons as a controller just so they can sell you new ones? Nintendo has been fairly good about keeping controller backwards compatibility, I don't think there's any reason to worry. Look at the Wii including Gamecube controller ports and the Wii U letting you use the Wiimote with the system.
I think if they think they can get away with it that's exactly what they'll do and they've gotten away with a lot.
