>“We are still working on software for the Switch for the fiscal year ending March 31, 2025,” said Nintendo president Furukawa.

>Switch was such a flop they're already sunsetting it
kek
The first ever flop that sold 130 million consoles
>console
no its a tablet
only if you admit that the gamecube is a tablet
That's... significantly less than the Wii and DS combined sold. Keep in mind that the Switch is BOTH Nintendo's console and its handheld.
Made them significantly more money than Wii and DS combined
>forgetting to account for inflation
shalom
What exactly is the point of such a comparison?? You realize that most people who had one had the other too. So the thing that matters is that they made more money off of the Switch than those.
the attach rate is far better than it was for the Wii, they're making so much more in software
>Keep in mind that the Switch is BOTH Nintendo's console and its handheld.
Why don't you ever leverage this argument against Playstation when they did the same thing?
By your own logic the PS4 is a flop because it didn't sell 170M units. The combined total of the PS3+PSP.
...because the PS4 isn't a handheld? Obviously.
But it is the combination of Sony's former console and handheld divisions just like the switch.
But it's not a handheld so therefore people who just want a handheld aren't going to buy it. Only people wanting a console will buy it. You're missing the point that the Switch being both a handheld and a console means that both the handheld and console exclusive demographics, who previously only bought a DS or a Wii respectively, will buy it.
>the point that the Switch being both a handheld and a console means that both the handheld and console exclusive demographics, who previously only bought a DS or a Wii respectively, will buy it.
Not that anon but this is an absolutely moronic point and makes me question if you even partook in society back in the late 2000s. Almost every household with a Wii also had a DS, often even multiple.
You're severely underestimating the amount of non-gamers that owned one of them. My gran owned just a DS and my dad owned just a Wii. For gamers then yeah, they usually owned both but both systems also had a massive casual audience that was only interested in one.
that's some weird ass mental gymnastics bro.
The Switch also made them more money than the Wii/DS combined.
You moron sales argument means nothing in this scenario, as always.
>That's... significantly less than the Wii and DS combined sold
like every other console and portable lineup. also having a DS and a Wii isn't mutually exclusive, most wii owners had both
It's significantly higher than every other Nintendo console + handheld pairing. Wii and DS both had anomalously high sales.
Switch won't go away any time soon and it doesn't matter if Switch 2 is more powerful than PS5 or not. Most weeb devs will keep supporting Switch with their mid-budget games as long that the platform is still active
The same reason why you still see some new release games getting PS4 port today
Switch 2 any day now, surely!
Yes, you dumbass. Switch 2 is next year but Nintendo will keep putting out some remakes and remasters on the previous system for a bit. They won't even have the 3DS/Switch transitional issue of people ignoring the late 3DS games because there will most likely be backwards compatibility.
You say that as if it's uncommon to see support of an old console for a year after a new one drops. Look at the ps4, it's still getting games today while the main focus is on the ps5. If Switch 2 has backwards compatibility we could also see the same thing happening here.
It is rare for Nintendo
Read the whole interview first, dumbass. Furukawa basically confirms Switch 2 is coming out next year
That's a classic Nintendo way of saying that Switch 2 is anything but confirmed
This isn't even news. We already know TTYD and LM2HD are slated for the FY25

Capcom not only had nothing to fill the gap between RE Village and RE4 Remake, but they also missed on of the peak Switch software sales years.
Why though???
The Switch will likely sell 10 millions more units from Oct 1 - Dec 31. They should work on improving the graphics for Switch 2.
>They should work on improving the graphics for Switch 2.
anon, are you moronic?
Not everyone moves over to the new console right away. It makes sense to have transitional games that sell to the massive Switch install base while the new one is still gaining legs
That guy you're responding to is a fricking moron. Nintendo can't just "work on improving the graphics". First of all the graphics chip is supplied by NVidia and not developed by Nintendo. The SoC is already agreed and almost certainly already shipped. Also software engineers are not hardware engineers, you can't just tell them to stop working on Pikmin and "work on better graphics" instead.
It's smart to not want a Wii U situation to happen. I expect them to announce and launch the switch 2 next year and then pump out some massive games.
Reminder that Nintendo always keep their handheld market as their safety belt in case their consoles didn't sell well. 3DS was literally the only thing that carried Nintendo during the disaster of Wii U era but now that their console and handheld market are merged, they no longer have that safety option which mean one frick up and the company is done for.
If Switch 2 did flop then we might actually see the end of Nintendo for real this time.
>3DS was literally the only thing that carried Nintendo during the disaster of Wii U era
3DS was the Nintendo handheld flop, they saved it but is still the lowest selling Nintendo handheld.
So I guess Nintendo will be fine when their worst handheld is still 70+ million.
>lowest selling Nintendo handheld
Not when Virtual Boy exists
>3DS was the Nintendo handheld flop
Fake 'n troony, 3DS sold like hot bread almost a year after launch.
Yeah, after they had to do an emergency price drop
It's a flop when you consider the original DS sold twice as much
75 million is not a flop moron
Same shit story repeated ad nauseam from snoys since the GC. Nintendo has a lot of money to be able to resist one or two console flops
That's the point, the biggest handheld Nintendo flop is still 76 Million.
Nintendo would be fine, just a little on the back foot for that gen if it ever happens again.
>Nintendo has a lot of money to be able to resist one or two console flops
Nintendo has enough money to brace tru 4 WiiU in a row before they start to have to borrow money.
>still the lowest selling Nintendo handheld.
came out right after the GFC, and wasnt as cheap as ds, it's obvious why
Seeing as how they have a theme park and a movie thing going on now, I really doubt they'll see another Wii U situation since they've diversified pretty well. At worst they're just gonna sell more merchandise based off nintendo characters if they do get another wii u situation. Nintendo also has a fat stack of cash too.
>Reminder that Nintendo always keep their handheld market as their safety belt in case their consoles didn't sell well
No, that was never an intended strategy.
>3DS was literally the only thing that carried Nintendo during the disaster of Wii U era but now that their console and handheld market are merged, they no longer have that safety option
You forgot how 3DS was doing so poorly after launch they had to give it a huge price cut just few months after.
Having a console line and a handheld line proved to be liability as they couldn't sufficiently support both of them.
What saved Nintendo was cutting Wii U short and focusing all of their efforts on 3DS. Something they now do by design after merging their teams for Switch.
With Mario, Zelda, Pokemon, Animal Crossing, Splatoon, Smash, Mario Kart on one system it's impossible to fail.
>If Switch 2 did flop then we might actually see the end of Nintendo for real this time.
Nintendo has enough money to shrug it off and quickly release another system with different focus.
Imagine falling for the diversified portfolio meme this hard. Stop having opinions.
>the disaster of Wii U era
The Wii U was just a massive branding blunder.
No it wasn't, and anyone who thinks that was the only big issue either is blinded by nostalgia because he was a little zoomer gay when the WiiU was new or had a PS4, 3DS and gaming PC in addition to the WiiU so he didn't really care too much about the system back when it was current.
Bad advertising aside the WiiU was just a shit console and a moronic idea that not even Nintendo themselves ever really figured out how to really translate into something worthwhile.
Every boomer thought the Wii U was just like a mid-gen refresh like the PS4 Pro/Xboner X
>ad advertising aside the WiiU was just a shit console and a moronic idea that not even Nintendo themselves ever really figured out how to really translate into something worthwhile.
They figured out how to translate the idea for the Wii U into something worthwhile - it's called the Switch
>did flop
Learn to conjugate you moron. The verb is "flip".
>it flips, it has flupped, it flop
How is that news? We already know of games set for that fiscal year.
What will most likely happen is a switch 2 release for the holiday of 2024 with maybe some cross-gen releases and a switch 1 prize drop. As of 2025 all games will release on the new console.
That's how Nintendo usually does things. You get a few more exclusives and crossover games with the previous gen console in the same year the new one comes out, then Nintendo drops the console and leaves it for 3rd party devs and indies.
So the Switch 2 is pretty much guaranteed for next year.
Nintendo dropped the Gamecube, Wii and Wii U like hot potatoes as early as a year before the launch of the following system aside from very token support like that collection, or Zelda TP/BotW which were really repurposed as the next system's killer app at launch. If we get a few more games on the level of the TTYD remake and maybe another original game on the level of Princess Peach Showtime, then it will be closer to how they handled the DS and 3DS (see Kirby Mass Attack and Battle Royale/Extra Epic Yarn for Kirby-related examples).
Not surprising. The switch userbase is massive, even if they release the successor in mid/late 2024, it makes sense to do a few cross-gen games, or even one or two OG switch exclusives.
Personally I expect cross-gen pokemon.
>Personally I expect cross-gen pokemon.
Yeah, we're due for another gen 9 game in late 2024 and I see that being a Switch game with Switch 2 enhancements, maybe it will run at 20fps instead of 15.
>pokemon presents in february 2024
wonder if the switch 2 will have been announced by then, I'd rather a new game like Legends Kyurem be a Switch 2 exclusive so it isn't gimped by the current console, but Pokemon is too popular and TPCI wouldn't want to miss out on selling it to the Switch's already massive install base
Why do you think a more powerful console would help? Clearly GF squanders all potential that a home console brings. Pokemon should've died with the DS line.
You should've died years ago because you are irreparably moron.
It is an established fact that the Switch games are technical blunders at best, get standards kid.
kys moron moron you said a more powerful console doen't offer more graphical advantages
where are the tiers in that list by months Black personhomosexual?
TotK alone is a technical masterpiece compared to shit like Starfield. It's embarrassing what Bethesda gets away with.
>Yeah, we're due for another gen 9 game in late 2024 and I see that being a Switch game with Switch 2 enhancements
Remember that time everyone said that about BW and BW2 and the DS? GameFreak is lazy and incompetent. If the next gen 9 game breaks double digit frame rates I'll be surprised.
I think they should keep releasing less demanding games on switch and let people swap over to switch 2 whenever they want
if nintendo made a new hotel dusk collection, it doesn't need to be exclusive for switch 2
however this is normal, nintendo typically supports an old console about a year after the new one releases, so you can expect switch 2 to release in early 2024
i am gonna laugh at the morons who said switch 2 is coming next year
its gonna be revealed late 2024, and released spring 2025 with an exclusive launch title
it's unveiled in january, for release march 2024 or later, deal with it
Nintendo has said similar kinda of stuff about the Wii U when the Switch dropped
Or when the 3DS dropped about the DS
Remember when Nintendo said the Switch wasn't replacing the Wii U and they would live alongside each other? Remember when they said they weren't planning on discontinuing the Wii U and then discontinued it a couple months later? This is just PR talk because they want to squeeze as many sales out of the console as they can since people will definitely stop buying as soon as they say "We're launching a new console next year!"
Working on Switch games till 2025 also means nothing if the next console is backwards compatible. We're in an era where new systems survive off of cross gen titles for a few years.
>less than a year of crossgen games
Nice, good on them for working out an effective transition to the new console. Other devs, especially Sony, could learn a lot from them.
>Other devs, especially Sony, could learn a lot from them.
I've been really enjoying how Sony has been handling it. We're 3 years in and I still have absolutely zero desire to waste my money on a PS5. I'm getting way more use out of my PS4 than I originally thought I would when I got it.
It's obvious the Switch is in its twilight years. We already got the soulless 2d Marios coming.
>will continue to support
given israelitetendo's track record with the 3DS, I'm not buying it.
reminder that corporate talk only stays valid until the next announcement.
I bought my first Switch a couple days ago, a brand new OLED one. I got a used copy of Mario Kart and Splatoon because only a rube buys games first hand. So far it's been really fun. It's comfy as all heck just curling up on the sofa under a blanket and not having to worry about where the TV is.
switch will coexist with the successor, just like the 3ds coexisted with switch for a while and people got mad that the 3ds was taking resources away from switch, and then people cry with shit like "I MISS THE 3DS"
Graphics gays are the worst kind of gays on Ganker. Games on the Switch look great.
>Games on the Switch look great
I absolutely hate graphics gays, but games being super blurry and producing a weird smeary image just isn't appealing to look at.
What are you talking about? My OLED looks crisp as frick.
I prefer playing on the TV and some games unfortunately look really bad on the eyes.
Sounds like your monitor more than anything.
No? I've played Switch on a 1080p monitor, and 3 other 4k TVs in our household. This issue happens regardless. In games like Rain Code, Xenoblade and I fell like TotK too sometimes(?)
Not him but there's a difference between screen quality of hardware and in-game graphics of software.
>he fell for the OMEME
enjoy dimming colors as your display literally burns itself up
>fiscal year ending March 31
oh so switch 2 will be in spring just to time it to their fiscal year bullshit
It's called the quarterly earnings treadmill. Welcome to hell, enjoy your stay.
This feels like pretty hard confirmation that the next system is in 2024, Nintendo pretty much always gives about a year of first-party support for the old console after the new hardware comes out
>As for hardware, we will maximize not only new demand for the hardware, but also for those buying second consoles and replacements.
>buying second consoles and replacements.
I like how nobody has mentioned that this is Nintendo silently admitting that the Switch is cheaply built dogshit that's designed to fail over time.
like every electronic product
that's what they said about all their previous consoles too and they dropped them instantly when the new one came out
>They supported 3ds two years after switch released
Switch most be coming really soon then
tbqhwy Sony should just buy out Nintendo
The WiiU was supported until 2018 technically and the Wii was supported until 2015. Doesn't mean shit.
