Nintendo's response to investor who asked about a new F-Zero game

https://nintendoeverything.com/nintendo-responds-to-investor-asking-for-return-to-f-zero-says-it-cant-accommodate-all-requests-for-remakes-and-sequels/

>Nintendo’s 82nd Annual General Meeting of Shareholders took place a few days ago, and one investor decided to ask about the possibility of revisiting F-Zero and series that haven’t seen a sequel in a long time. President Furukawa responded to the question, as did the company’s Shinya Takahashi.

>Furukawa’s comment was short but clear. He mentioned: “Realistically speaking, it would be difficult to develop remakes or sequels for all Nintendo titles you have requested, but we’re extremely glad and grateful that our fans continue to look forward to them.”

>As for Takahashi, he had this to say:

>“We are always thinking from a broad perspective about how to make both new titles and remakes enjoyable for many consumers. As an example, a question was asked at the Annual General Meeting of Shareholders (for the 79th fiscal year held in 2019) about whether we had any plans to remake the Famicom Detective Club series. By chance, we did have plans at that moment to remake that very series. I cannot discuss whether we have plans to remake any specific title, but as we develop our games, we are constantly considering all kinds of possibilities to create enjoyment for consumers.”

How are they supposed to make Splatoon 5, BotW 4, and Fire Emblem 37: The Panty Quest Wars if they're too busy making a new 1080 game?

I'd kill for a new 1080. Avalanche was amazing for its time. Hell I miss SSX as well.

They wouldn't be able to butcher fzero and hammer it into the mold of broad appeal without PR backlash, so it will never ever happen.

What the frick is even "broad appeal"? Everyone likes different things, it's impossible to make a single entertainment product appeal to everyone.

Mario and Zelda are broad appeal. They sell like nuts compared to other titles.

Broad appeal means it will be as milquetoast and inoffensive as possible. i.e design by committee
But don't take my word for it, simply compare video games before 2006 and after and see for yourself?

It'd be one thing of Nintendo's in-house teams put out a bunch of titles a year. But, I can only even even think of a couple games that are developed by Nintendo EAD or any of their teams that's coming out this year. Splatoon 3, Mario Strikers and Kirby are it. Everything else is third or second party. Like, what are the rest of those dev teams doing?

Swimming in the money. They can't be bothered to make a new game when botw and mk8d still sell a frick ton of copies.
Seriously the fact that they've never fallen off the sales charts is why Nintendo has barely gave a frick about making serious titles for the Switch.

Well Mario Strikers and Kirby are 2nd party developed by NLG and HAL respectively but

      >Everything else is third or second party. Like, what are the rest of those dev teams doing?

      >EPD1: This studio mostly oversees and collaborated with external studios like HAL or Intelligent Systems or even something like Bayonetta 3 and communicates between them and Nintendo.
      >EPD2: The same role as EPD1, overseeing external projects
      >EPD3: The Zelda team, probably the biggest EPD studio and currently working on BOTW2.
      >EPD4: Works on smaller Nintendo titles like LABO, Ring fit Adventure or Switch Sports
      >EPD5: Develops Splatoon and Animal Crossing
      >EPD6: Another external support team like 1 and 2
      >EPD7: Responsible for the Wario ware/Tomodachi games, collaborates to work on 2D Metroid
      >EPD8: The 3D Mario team
      >EPD9: The Mario Kart/ARMS team
      >EPD10: Made Mario Maker 2 and developed Pikmin in the past
      >EPD11: Nintendo mobile game support

Pretty much all of them are accounted for, aside from EPD8 who’s probably still working on the next big Mario game and EPD10.

If a new F Zero did get made it would probably be given to a studio like Platnium while Nintendo oversees it, it’s not like Nintendo is going o make the Zelda team or something make an F Zero game.

What have the WipEout guys been doing since Studio Liverpool got shuttered? Anything? It seems obvious from a glance, but they could make a decent F-Zero game, I'd feel.

The actual issue is that they can't market all of those games at the same time without them cannibalizing each other.

    >Miyamoto: [eyes open wide] I am really pleased to hear Twitter’s opinion, because since the first episode on SNES many games have been made but the series has evolved very little. I thought people had grown weary of it.

    >I’d like to say: Thank you very much and try to wait by playing Nintendo Land’s F-Zero mini-game.

    >I am also very curious and I’d like to ask those people: Why F-Zero? What do you want that we haven’t done before?

Nintendo doesn't seem to get that sometimes people DO want the same thing, they just want it shinier.

there's F-ZERO need for a new f-zero game when Mariokart exists. If you want a more difficult fast paced racing game go play CTR or Wipeout Omega.

Mario Kart and CTR play very little like F-Zero.

Wipeout is nice, but the aesthetics are really bland and don't stand out from other futuristic racers compared to F-Zero's western superhero comic-inspired artstyle.
