Should I play a new run with Tonfas? Is the damage good enough? I know it's a ki killer but I hear the damage is low, but is it low enough that you really need a second set of weapons alongside?

Not sure what moron you were listening to, a 'professional' homosexual streamer no doubt.
Tonfas are fine
They're aren't a ki kller - no weapon is unless you are shit
I mean ki killer as it melts enemy ki. But alright, cool!
I know what you mean
If you can ki pulse you will be fine
that makes it sound like you still don't know what he meant
tonfas and fists are the biggest ki killers moron
It's way harder to juggle a human enemy to remain out of ki with sword for example.
If you want to gain skill, you have to journey up the difficulties. skip dotStrong, it's easier than samurai.
If you always hit NG, you will forever remain a casual.
If you're bad, yes
Literally none of the weapons drain ki too much if you're good at the game
>drain ki too much
that's not what ki killer means, like the first guy told you. learn reading comprehension, then go and google the term.
I said what I said
actual mouthbreather
Nah I quite often run only tonfa, they're really good. If you don't like em you can always respec
I'm thinking of a poison build with them. Feels like it makes sense.
Nioh isn't the type of game you can softlock yourself in by picking up a wrong weapon
>damage is low
I think you can do Nioh 1 and 2 any way you really want too the first playthrough. In 1 I went straight single Katana and in the sequel went dedicated Tonfas and proceeded just fine. I dunno about all the NG+ shit Nioh fans around here say it can be real fun but I didn't love either game enough for a second NG+ round. Maybe I'm missing out. Maybe they're all autistic who knows? Go for it is my tldr
can someone post that beginner's guide for Nioh 2 please
https://old.reddit.com/r/Nioh/comments/lcy9ie/quick_beginners_guide_for_everyone_new_starting/
there you go friendo
Thanks, I wanted to know what it said about toughness again and looks like I'm overdoing it at 250+
already using them, they're fun :^)
Yes, you should. The lack of straight damage is more than compensated when depleting enemy of its Ki.
Fists are similar if you just want to hit hard
>Purity fists + Tonfa
>enemies spend entire fights staggered
corruption would be better against humans - althogh against Saito Toshimitsu, corruption on an axe with barrier tends to just stop him altogether
>not using hatchets
what's wrong with you
give me the basic gestalt on hatchets
if it sounds good i might do my annual run with them
>ranged damage
>melee damage
If you're not shit, you can keep aggression going non-stop, even when the yokai decides to frick off across the room without having to run after them like a lonely 12 year old trying to fap to his sister's breasts
>you can keep aggression going non-stop
aight lil homie i'm sold
Get X Hurl: Light on all of them, the speed really makes the weapon and also get the follow up for after the throw to rush in (grpaple on humans if they're out of ki)
Overall Hatchets are able to do practically anything - they can't parry yokai like the odachi can and that would be their only downside
also since you're on PC
https://www.nexusmods.com/nioh2/mods/224
Hatchets are probably the most unique weapon in the game because most of their skill set allows you to seamlessly switch between close range melee and zoning.
Their only negative is that their best skill is Shibata boss skill drop.
>full magatsuhi tonfa+axe
yep 'tis gaming time
funny!
New player here, how the frick do I deal with the big bull at the very start of the first mission?
>burst counter reds
>dodge other shit and especially grabs in low stance
>remember that you have a block button
>ki pulse but not too late
>yokai shift
>or just skip it and come back later like the game tells you to
But it really isn't that hard to kill in a few attempts even when you have no idea what you're doing, as long as you didn't skip the tutorial.
I actually managed to kill him now. Got a sweet new spear.
Also, I notice that the starting stats are way lower than you'd start with in Dark Souls. I usually start by levelling the shit out of the hp stat in these games, to like 20, and then the stamina stat to the same and then focus on my weapon stat. Same shit is good here or do I need to rethink stats?
Yeah stats don't matter much for weapon damage until way later, like 30+ hours later when youo're in NG++ and grinding out perfect weapons
Early on just go for: minimum stamina for B agility (c agility is a fricking trap) and eventually get magic/ninjutsu to 30 for their missionsi n the dojo but that can wait till you get to them in each region
I go 10 in body, heart then courage. Then do 20 in those stats and then work on ninjtsu/magic and put in more points into stamina as needed
Don't voth trying to reach the bonuses for the armor itself - most of them aren't worth it early on and grinding for armor which'll be replaced in like 3 missions is pointless
Just go big number = good and keep weight at B agility
for the love of all tha'ts good get the skills Flux 1 and 2 in the samurai tree and The Dark Within and The Yokai Within from the shiftling tree asap
Skip it
Seriously, it's not meant to be be beaten at the start. You can go back later on and give it a go when you have a skill and yokai ability (hopefully one drops) otherwise just ignore it
High stance is for dodging properly
Low stance is for quick movement
Who the frick dodges in high, the extra i-frames aren't worth it.
>more i-frames aren't worth it
anon... come on now
I've done it a few times on a fresh character with different weapons - even using iai quickdraw or high stance axe, without a yokai ability, its ki decreases too slowly imo
No, seriously, low stance block-stepping just works, what do you need the fricking souls roll for?
I see you never got involved in the frickery of the 3+ gaki's raping you with 3 more enemies in the beta
You CAN kill it, but as a new player I'd say ignore him for now and move on. Return later if you want revenge.
Learn the burst counter, whenever you see red on the screen, use it:
1)Club demon form Burst counter is a tackle, its not a parry. You only need to hit the enemy with your own hitbox to confirm. Has a delayed start so usually best idea is to bury your face in the monsters armpits to always confirm the hit.
2)Knife demon form Burst counter is a dash, dash through enemy attack. Lightning fast animation start but sometimes the dash might miss.
3)Fox demon form Burst counter is a parry. Similar to Sekiro if you frick up the timing, saving grace is that you cancel the "parry" into a normal block so you won't get hurt.
Stances in nutshell (might vary by weapon)
High stance: Good for standard exploring. Crappiest dodge roll which can be inefficient with really fast attacks.
Medium stance: Gimmicky moves and horizontal sweeps, useful against enemies who dodge to your sides all the time (ghosts, bird ladies etc)
Low stance: Super-safe stance where your damage is low but dodging is easy. Useful against large enemies who don't bother blocking, combos well with elemental effects.
Gear crash course: Just like in Arpgs, armor with both armor and extra Life are best ones. Optimally you want to keep Toughness in rank A and Agility at least B. Armor reduces damage taken a lot.
Gameplay tip: In combat you're expected to both block and dodge, don't over-rely on one, use both. Small enemies (hungry ghosts, knife grannies) stagger easy, you can staggerlock them infinitely by being super-aggressive.
Hope that helps.
Pair it with DS or 1Kat for damage. Tonfas lack burst damage.
God frick the owl boss fight. It wasn't hard really, just really fricking annoying. Good thing I had those purification talismans that made the dark realm shift phases a lot more bearable than it would have been otherwise.
Why is this fricking game never on an actual worthwhile sale.
Its because they stretched the shelf-life of the game with the big Endgame update. So you're technically buying the main game, 3 DLCs and an expansion at the same time.
Then I shall wait a bit more for this fricking game to be even more worthwhile
pirate it
save carries over
It's brilliant
I'd say Sekiro is well worse than Wo Long for the repetitiveness of it
Wo Long has at the vert least fast and slow weapons and can go full on magic if you want
Anyway weapon is a caster weapon due to how scaling works.
>pirate
Yarr, you be making a compelling argument
Also do please pirate as the game is absolutely not for everyone and despite what you may have heard, it is not 'Souls in Japan' that is being parroted by morons
The back and forward just felt like I was playin guirtar hero. Don't get me wrong, sometimes it was great but a lot of time I was kinda like 'this is just mashing at the right time'
There was very little other than 'attack and block'. Even using the one skill they let you pick or the few tools seemed pointless omst times as the proper tool would jsut render the boss too easy
It's how I smashed most of the bosses by just exploiting their weakeness to the tool
To Sekiro's credit, the flow of swordplay is unmatched. The back and forth? The visual and audio feedback? Fricking sublime.
My only gripe was the spirit emblems basically saying how much fun you can have using tools and advanced techniques. Having only one at a time equipped I wasn't a fan of, either.
Unfortunately, the pure visual and audio feedback cannot carry a bad combat system. I got around 100 hours in Sekiro and after finishing charmless + bell i don't want to touch it anymore because it's too primitive and with a supremely limited player expression. I got 300 hours out of Wo Long and will probably play more still, purely because of how expressive i can be, especially after you get the ability to swap martial arts around.
just pirate it, Black person
the devs went full moron so it's not worth supporting them anyway
unrelated to Nioh but frick I love the elemental interactions in wo long.
Yeah the magic system in wo long is fricking incredible. I love DLC spells in particular.
i've never played weu long before but this webm has just made me not want to play this eyesore of a game. That UI is fricking atrocious and the fx is overdone.
>UI is fricking atrocious
Every single brainlet that tries to sound smart has this "criticism".
Like every single time. It's the artgays of vidya.
I only played vanilla and I have no idea what's going on in this webm
Still can't decide if I actually want to play that game or not. The magic seems cool, but I wish it also had some kind of dedicated caster weapon.
Also I need more Ronin info, where the frick is it.
>dedicated caster weapon
That's basically any weapon that scales mostly off of metal phase, since Metal stats benefits spells the most.
Oh come on, that's not what I meant. I'd like some kind of weapon with magic-style neutrals so I could play an actual caster and not a caster-leaning spellblade/fist/whatever.
And it doesn't look like there's anything you can cast repeatedly for something like a combo, is there? "Press again to detonate" doesn't count.
>And it doesn't look like there's anything you can cast repeatedly for something like a combo
Any shotgun type spell like Imposing Slab?
There's a staff that has a built in fireball technique?
Some spells you can spam over and over though, for sure. I don't do too much wizardy spells but holy shit they took the skill drop cancer from nioh and made certain bosses drop special spells and they're really fricking good. I've seen one where you do like a leaping vertical slash with a lightning blade, throw a giant boulder and a leaping fire slam.
At least they have a checklist of who drops what in the character/demon gallery.
look at this fricking bear
Fists are the best suited caster weapon because they are absolute champions at generating spirit.
Ranged weapons feel so good in these games. I wish From took note.
is wo long good cuz I'm getting tired from the eastern setting and I don't want to play as sun wukong
It's good. it gets some hate for being repetitive but I don't understand why that's a bad thing. Sekiro is repetitive as frick but it's still great.
For me it's the Longsword.
All 3 DLC weapon type are insane. I hope every weapon type has frenzy stance and charge attacks in the inevitable sequel. Keep building the game and you will arrive to Nioh 2 territory.
I get filtered by it
Couple of the weapons do have ranged attacks - two of the swords have them at least, I know one is sword of chaos or something#
plus your waifu's staff iirc has the fireball shit
You can spam spells, yes. But eventually you'll need to attack or else wait for spirit to return
Again, I meant dedicated combo spells with an animation chain instead of spamming. Like Nurikabe core or if Luminous Blade was 4 separate inputs.
Whatever, will probably play it anyway. Is the whip available from the start or only when you get to DLC? Looks pretty cool.
Random drop like all weapons, can buy it from blacksmith-fu early on but no guaranteed drop for a 4 star one till post game
But if you want actual combo spells, combo them yourself, anon - you can do shit like explode a fireball into dragging them into melee then rain down ice spikes
Like, the options are there. Just no 'mash this one button to do crazy shit'
>but no guaranteed drop for a 4 star one till post game
You get your dlc weapons from the deliveries option at the flag don't you? Like you don't have to do the DLC to get at least one, then it's in the loot pool
oh shit yeah I forgot that
Problem with axe is that it's 'chase' move is pretty shit
Sure, but there's only so much you can do with 4x2 slots. Give me an autistic as frick control scheme that allows for 10x2 then maybe.
So regardless of what you can do, it won't be good enough
why even waste our time
Are you dumb or what. I made it clear in the first place that the game wasn't "good enough" for me in terms of magic stuff despite some of it being cool and just expressed what I wished it had.
The problem with limited skill slots is a common one, and even if you come up with a sick combo and get what you need for it, you basically just have that preset combo occupying multiple slots and end up just using it on everything.
But I'll also admit I'm effectively asking for a playstyle the game was never meant to support.
so this was a lie and you are in fact trolling
ignored
>Sure, but there's only so much you can do with 4x2 slots
Between 8 spell slots and 12 martial arts you can do an abobawde FRICKLOAD given how insane some of the DLC spells are
Like, Water God Blink is crazier than all Nioh spells put together. And you really feel it on your own hide when the final DLC boss uses it on you.
What helped me with longsword is that if you want to use its charge stance more, be aware that you can start deflecting almost IMMEDIATELY after entering it. There's very little delay. It also explains why Water and Earth are good stats for it. There is one that has its main stat be fire if you'd rather just hit them really hard.
How do backstabs work? I walk slowly behind them and attack, but nothing happens.
You have the backstab technique unlocked in the ninjutsu tree? If not, you still get the back damage multiplier.
Ah so it's a skill? Thanks
In Nioh? Need the skill in the ninjutsu tree called backstab
In Wo Long? Make sure it's red
Have to unlock it in a skill tree.
Ganker is an axechad only board
please cease discussion of inferior weapons
i started with axe until i switched to odachi for the counter
i dont remember that move , maybe i hadnt unlocked it
It's a shame it took Axe until the final DLC of Nioh 2 to actually get a good combo ender and a move like Spinning Slide to make its charge attacks viable.
At least axes are super fun in wo long and a clear improvement over Nioh's.
Really wanted something like Impregnable Keep in Nioh.
>No cloud crusher
>No Rampage
>No Rage buff
I'll give you Impregnable Keep though
Rage buff is now a sorcery.
Cloud Crush is probably the only thing i miss out of Nioh skill set but having guard points surely beats it.
Because Nobunaga forced him to kill kids, which is what started his slippery slope.
Tonfas are fun as hell, but yeah, damage kinda low unless you spam gunsticks, yes.
Anyway, you should never use just one weapon, so it's literally not an issue.
Isn’t the whole point of this game that none of the weapons are good? The combat is supposed to be a slog so that the enemies can be “hard”
the game is hard because it takes skill
All the weapons are good
Why don't you parrot some more memes you've heard from souldrones who don't know how to play the game, moron?
Nioh is more on diablo build spectrum. Weapon and general skill like Ki Flux smoothen the combo flow.
>magatsuhi 7p + ningi 6p
yep it's gaming time
though I paused the game because I spent too much grinding for that combination and it's still not perfect, still have to reach the depths to farm those ultimate scrolls
>magatsuhi
Yawn.
I just used Takeminakata+ninigi so I can feel like I'm playing the game without relying on living weapon 2.0
My living weapon uptime is almost constant, so I have no issues there.
Just missing those good rolls to get it at constant uptime.
Just need to level up more at the guy in the underworld, most equipment drops are at +35 level, while I am at almost +50.
>farm those ultimate scrolls
If anything, I wish there was some easier end-game way to get the skills you want on scrolls and cores, and generally to get the equip pieces you want.
is the story in wo long good? Like I've been skipping the cutscenes and just rescued the elder for the magic girl in the village
get the gun tonfas
Nioh :
>Swords
>Dual Swords
>Spears
>Axes/Hammers
>Kusarigamas
>Odachis
>Tonfas
>Dual Hatchets
>Switchglaives
>Splitstaves
>Fists
Wo Long:
>Swords
>Straight Sabres
>Curved Sabres
>Glaives
>Halberds
>Staves
>Hammers
>Poleaxes
>Spears
>Slashing Spears
>Dual Swords
>Dual Sabres
>Dual Halberds
>Cestus
>Long Swords
>Whips
Wo Long weapons are more varied, but they weirdly don't have that much "oomph" compared to Nioh weapons.
Nah you are fine, besides there is spiked tonfas if you want the increased damage at the cost of some KI damage.
>CLING CLANG CLING CLANG MARTIAL ART CLING CLANG CLING CLANG MARTIAL ART
