The stage based approach where it remixes shit for side content and the diablo loot can be very off putting to people. But yeah, in terms of combat and content it utterly owns. I've dumped 350+ hours into it already, and I'm still not tired of it.
>Nobody who plays it can dislike it
I do. I dropped it half ways in. Can't argue that combat is good but everything else is so lacking. >story doesn't exist >levels are "My first unreal level" tier >loot is trash and everything is the same with X% modifier >characters are irrelevant
It get's boring really quick. I went from >this is way too hard
to >this is great and the combat is amazing when it finally clicks
to >this is repetitive and boring
in less than 15 hours.
the story expects you to have attended high school in japan for you to know what is going on
At some point I stopped trying to even understand whose side I was on during that war.
The game throw at you 50 guys named Takato Orochiricefrickutbh or whatever, and clearly expect you to be impressed just because they said their name.
Don't forget about fighting the same boring enemies most of the time. Bosses are great but (rightfully so) they are not what you will be facing most of the time and I just can't stand this.
>Nioh 2 is the cream of the crop. Nobody who plays it can dislike it
I played it and I found it worse than Ninja Gaiden Black in every way. It breaks the Souls games back and forth combat and makes it more floaty and with less responsive bosses, with mechanics like YS, Soul Core or Ki flux, but also doesn't committ to true freedom of movement and combat and is shackled by clunky Souls mechanics like lock-on (which unlike Souls games is basically mandatory due to the control scheme and face buttons needed for attacks), any kind of aerial manuver and combo or dynamic multi-enemy combat
Usually that you can switch to attacking any target without being slowed down by a clunky Souls lock on system and the fight includes walljumping and verticality
You can move around pretty fast, it might not be NG fast but that's fine. The game is responsive, has fun execution, and has actual good enemy design.
>and has actual good enemy design.
Barely above ninja gaiden in terms of bosses and way inferior in most combat encounters instead, and bosses weren't the focus of ninja gaiden
nah general enemies and bosses are way better. Ninja Gaiden is mostly a player driven game. The enemies don't have a lot of depth to them though they're still smartly designed.
Nioh barely qualifies for a soulslike and it will hand you your own ass on a silver platter if you will try to play it as one. The framework they created for the combat system is unique within the entire arpg genre.
Thus said, it's an excellent game.
As many said already, it's barely a soulslike. It's more like a DMC game (or a Ninja Gaiden game, seeing as it's from the same devs) with RPG elements and LIGHT souls elements (lose all EXP after dying with a chance to pick it up, similar checkpoint system).
So liking lies of P does not necessarily mean you will like Nioh. Do you like DMC or NG? If yes, then there is a higher chance you will like Nioh as well.
It‘s way better than Lies of P. The moment to moment combat is unmatched in the ARPG genre, and the builds are super fun.
Also the more you play it the more you‘ll realize that it‘s only a soulslike on a surface level.
Nioh is its own thing. Its combat blows the frick out of souls, let alone souls clones, but it's lacking in most other ways like world building and atmosphere. Definitely worth playing, but it's a different experience.
Oh, i'd actually argue that Nioh has its own atmosphere, and it's superb if you like the setting. I think they nailed derelict japanese temples and villages extremely well, especially when there's some ambiance like rain is attached. Sohaya village in 2 was superb.
It’s much better than Lies of P because it has much more variety in builds, play styles, magic, weapon types, combos…
Lies of P has good melee combat but it doesn’t give you a whole lot to do with it so it’s a bit repetitive imo
Also ignore the morons saying Nioh isn’t a soulslike, it totally is
yeah I get tired of the "it's not a souls like" meme. It has bonfire checkpoints that refill health potions, shortcuts, corpse running for exp lost on death, similar lock on system, similar leveling system, similar emphasis on bosses, general difficulty, light and heavy attacks, stamina etc. It's definitely a souls like. However it also does a lot of its own things so just calling it a souls clone doesn't do it justice when there's so many sloppy souls clones out there.
I never played Lies of P, but compared to souls, I prefer souls. In Nioh 2 you can get killed by 1 hit by a regular ass mob. Even in Fromsoft games that kind of shit is usually reserved for certain boss fights but in Nioh 2 any regular foot soldier can frick you up in 0.2 seconds.
The thing is... I keep coming back to it and keep trying to inch forward, so it is doing something right. But it is a stressful as frick game to play, even when compared to Fromsouls games.
>they are actually patching Wo Long into a decent state
Wonder if they called some senior designer into the project to assist them with final balancing
6 MAs actually change the combat significantly
Long sword fundamentally overshadows everything else because of it sacred sheath like charge mechanic. But they did add a few new MA and boss MAs with DLCs, like the boomerang staff throw which is pretty neat for ranged status pressure.
>Heard that Wo-Long set bonuses were low and RPG side of things have been pretty bad, have they fixed that yet?
They straight doubled most set bonuses with dlc 2 patch
Graces are pretty cool too. My favourite is the super healing one.
I don't think it's as broken as you could do it back in Nioh 1 but bombs are a decent support item at least.
Ninjas are now ninpo masters, feathers are super cool.
I don't think it's as broken as you could do it back in Nioh 1 but bombs are a decent support item at least.
Ninjas are now ninpo masters, feathers are super cool.
>feathers are super cool
Feathers are pretty imbalanced for how strong they are, featherspam is one of the most broken builds in the game and honestly trivializes everything
I HAVE BEEN DOING THE SAME FRICKING SHITTY MISSION WITH GEAR THAT UPS THE DROP RATE OF ITEMS AND I STILL HAVEN'T GOTTEN THE SHITTY FRICKING SKILL BOOK OR WHATEVER THE FRICK ITS CALLED. FRICK THIS STUPID SHIT.
IMO a set or a grace can shakeup playstyles quite a bit
I recommend trying that iaijutsu grace or you could do both and utilize that grace that encouraged constantly swapping between weapons while refreshing and transporting elemental buffs between weapons, so you could be using Kusa+Kat while constantly juggling the two
Sadly that's mildly lategame stuff, you need to probably uhh, get to NG++
Also pretty sure 1kat got a bunch of new skills like the laser sword, DLC kurama dance and uhh I dont think Oda's slowwalk was in Nioh 1?

Oh, and forgot: 1kat also got the ebin Judgement Cut in the last DLC iirc
No, you're a moron. Nioh 2 significantly improved nearly every weapon with all the additional skills from free updates + DLCs. 1kat especially is the one with the new most new skills. Kusa got some stuff idk that weapon sucks and they didn't do much to imrpove it in 2.
Kusarigama was exceptionally strong in 1 and though the few skills it got in 2 didn't have a dramatic effect on how it plays they are massive in terms of giving it more, better ways to do so and are simply very good.
I love this game but I have to take a gap of a few months per NG cycle. As good as the gameplay is, going through the same areas can get stale. I'm currently at Way of The Demon.
I gotta seriously give this a go someday. I've completed Nioh 1 when I was less busy 2 years ago and I adored it, when I launched 2 and saw all the shit there is to do I postponed it. I don't have time to do so much shit in vidya anymore but I know I'd love it
Nioh 2 one of games with something i call good character creator.
One where creating cute character is possible and easy. Not many sush games. Other games that comes to mind is MG Survival and MH Stories 2.
The same way you use every weapon, by making the most of the strengths from each attack and skill and chaining them together via Flux. You might need to narrow it down more than that.
1kat is a relatively balanced weapon that is easy to learn but scales infinitely with how good the player actually is, its moveset is also very well defined in terms of having several different answers for different specific scenarios.
To go over general use categories while not being comprehensive at all, damage skills include Morning Moon, Iai Quickdraw (learning to sheathe cancel makes it very effective earlier), Night Rain and Light in Darkness. Ki damage skills are Kick and Heaven Flash (a strong allrounder), with Shadow Sword and Sword Ki also being good for Ki damage but leaning towards Break. It also has good utility options including several anti-human parries like Backwave and Water Shadow, the latter being notable for working on skeletons too.
As for axe, it trades a bit of subtlety and speed for extreme damage and Ki damage, but still has a surprising amount of complexity hidden in it if you want to delve in. The important things to keep in mind with it are to understand spacing, timing and the versatility of its charged skills as you can release them right away treating them as two in one. Using low stance well to create openings matters due to the speed.
Damage-wise, Lumber Chop, Mad Spinner and Heaven and Earth are extremely good, for Ki damage High Kick, Cloud Crush, Earth Carver and especially Rampage (which is unblockable, a yokai stagger and high damage when charged) are good, and basically everything you do is huge Break. The guard and parry skills like Spirit Wind, Spirit Storm and Roar are quite underrated as well, especially the first one for how hard it hits and Spinning Slide works on some yokai attacks as well, plus you can change stance during the spin to use other skills.
I have only played 1 but just throwing on an axe and heavy armor definitely did not allow you to facetrade. In fact heavy armor was barely viable at all until at least ng+
Team Ninja never fails when it comes to character design. I mean, look at Dong Zhou in pic rel. The DW version of him is a fat frick while the Wo Long version is a brute that can destroy you (As well as the second boss that gave me a hard time other than Lu Bu)
Crabs are extremely simple and actually very fun to fight if you take a second to recognize what you're trying to fight and how to deal with them. Hit their back, especially when its glowing. The recognizing part comes from learning its moveset and seeing that all nearly all its attacks either turn it to expose its back or can be dodged in such a way to leave you right at its back. Ubumes are a similar story, they like to dodge after being hit, so focus on dash attacks and gapclosing skills to punish it.
The pair of discord schizos are desperate indeed. Still there is some information worth spreading.
That could mean several different things. One of the skills available from a boss in the DLC is Sacred Bird Cry, which is a universal skill (any weapon can equip it) that uses Anima to do multiple beam slashes, releasing a ton of Amrita on it to charge Yokai Shift and doing decent damage with both the beams and attack adding up. There is also an Onmyo spell, the Cutting Blast talisman makes all your strong attacks shoot low damage/ok Ki damage waves for a time, which is effective for locking down enemies. Finally, weapons with Imbue Corruption have their Sentience gauge, and when it's maxed out and buffing the weapon it will also add a beam to the last strong attack in the string, this uses a little of the gauge to do good damage and high Corruption infliction.
I think he means the hidden skill for katana: Severing Spin.
Ah right, "several projectiles" made me think ranged but Severing Spin is probably what it is then if it was the typical draw and sheathe anime Judgement Cut-esque move. It is also a skill from a DLC boss but for katana specifically, it does decent damage, can't be staggered and the AoE is really big so while it can be hard to work in at times due to startup it can be quite effective.
>a fricking Shigurui reference
Really? Which one?
Reverse Impact, its basically the exact move in the pic he posted. High damage and starts extremely quickly, it has a lot of recovery but that can be cancelled with Yokai Skills etc..
It's great the lobbies add more enemies and has its own revival mechanics. You also share progress so you don't have to redo missions. Only downside is that some side missions aren't available
Very good, there's two forms of co-op, one where you can just summon other players to help you clear a mission when you're in it and another where you create a lobby and can seamlessly play through the full game, this mode adjusts enemy placements, has a partner revival mechanic instead of checkpoints, counts clearing missions for all those taking part and can technically be played solo. Almost the entire game barring a small handful of dedicated duel and dojo missions can be done co-op, and you use your own character of course.
Wo Long (and SoP) are the way better ARPGs and action games, but you couldn't stunlock the boss for half the fight with Yokai bullshit and Gears of War active reload abusing the trash ki system so Niohgays chimped out like apes
would you recommend this if i liked lies of p? which one is the better soulslike?
Nioh 2 is the cream of the crop. Nobody who plays it can dislike it. It's also very cozy with co-op multiplayer and has tons of endgame content.
The stage based approach where it remixes shit for side content and the diablo loot can be very off putting to people. But yeah, in terms of combat and content it utterly owns. I've dumped 350+ hours into it already, and I'm still not tired of it.

Nioh shits all over lies of piss.
If you have not yet played Nioh1/2 then sure, go for it. It's a great game, though hardly "soulslike".
If you enjoy gear autism and getting one-shot, yeah go ahead. Feral yokai is the most fun shit.
Nioh 2 is an ARPG, you just respawn like in souls games, thats the single similarity it has with it
Its also an excellent game
As many said already, it's barely a soulslike. It's more like a DMC game (or a Ninja Gaiden game, seeing as it's from the same devs) with RPG elements and LIGHT souls elements (lose all EXP after dying with a chance to pick it up, similar checkpoint system).

Nioh's combat has jackshit to do with Souls-like.
If anything you will absolutly hate it if you go in expecting something that work like DS/LoP.
Combat is infinitely better, everything else is way worse.
I would advise starting with Nioh 1 tho, the ambiance in it is much better than in 2.
Combat and RPG mechanics are far more important than ambiance
It’s much better than Lies of P because it has much more variety in builds, play styles, magic, weapon types, combos…

While i don't disagree, i just want to point out that potions aren't really refilled, more like restocked from storage.

I heard wolong's dev are mostly newbies
Well I still love Wolong after playing nioh though,it have a lot to improve but at least not hopeless.
i'm addicted to thousand mile journey. looking forward to seeing what they do in DLC 3
Wish the add more features about the old weapon or long sword overshadow other weapon
And dev please do something about Dian Wei's MA.
Long sword fundamentally overshadows everything else because of it sacred sheath like charge mechanic. But they did add a few new MA and boss MAs with DLCs, like the boomerang staff throw which is pretty neat for ranged status pressure.

They straight doubled most set bonuses with dlc 2 patch
Graces are pretty cool too. My favourite is the super healing one.
>They straight doubled most set bonuses with dlc 2 patch
Oh thats great to hear, I'll go take a peep
Does this mean PC can now run a smooth minimum of 60 fps
Optimization is better than it was before but it's still far from being like Nioh 2
Dang. I'll hold off for the final DLC and maybe a patch
Ninja build with bombs is bad in Nioh2?
I don't think it's as broken as you could do it back in Nioh 1 but bombs are a decent support item at least.

Nothing is bad in Nioh 2 as long as you have a grasp on the whole picture and how to make the most of it. Except Raijin, Mortal Flow and Fluidity.
I killed purple Gyuki over 100 times before I got the scroll I wanted.
So disappointing that they reused all skills for every weapon
My fav weapons are sword and kusarigama but it's boring playing them when they're unchanged from nioh 1 and I don't care about any other weapon.
🙁
But fists
It's annoying having to constantly manage range and the fist skills all lock you into long animations that you seldom can cancel out of
IMO a set or a grace can shakeup playstyles quite a bit
I recommend trying that iaijutsu grace or you could do both and utilize that grace that encouraged constantly swapping between weapons while refreshing and transporting elemental buffs between weapons, so you could be using Kusa+Kat while constantly juggling the two

So you barely played it
is that onimusha 5?
WILLIAM >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> HIDE
Friendly sparring?
same guy who voiced Sea King from OPM and Kira in Jojo ASB btw
Say hello to my tonfas
Only if you let me marry your daughter
I'm still confuse why TN made him as the strongest human boss in the game
I dunno, Raiko is pretty up there IMO
Altho I admit I was playing a ranged build and could 1/2-shot him with a headshot
>the strongest human boss in the game
That's Ren Hayabusa.
I went into this mission thinking he would be a b***h and no he wiped the floor with me.
With the fist I managed to kill him eventually.
>against all coomers
What were they thinking again? It's like I am playing dmc bloody palace or something.
I gotta seriously give this a go someday. I've completed Nioh 1 when I was less busy 2 years ago and I adored it, when I launched 2 and saw all the shit there is to do I postponed it. I don't have time to do so much shit in vidya anymore but I know I'd love it
The DLCs are post-main story and short, just do the main story then the dlcs in the ng+
This guy makes me seethe so fricking much on every difficulty, frick this cheating c**t
Nioh 2 one of games with something i call good character creator.

Still no Wo Long equivalent for pic rel?
What is that supposed to show
Character comparison between Samurai Warriors, Nioh, and Sengoku Basara. There should be one for Wo Long and Dynasty Warriors.
How the FRICK do i use 1kat and axe?
The same way you use every weapon, by making the most of the strengths from each attack and skill and chaining them together via Flux. You might need to narrow it down more than that.
1kat is a relatively balanced weapon that is easy to learn but scales infinitely with how good the player actually is, its moveset is also very well defined in terms of having several different answers for different specific scenarios.

The guard and parry skills like Spirit Wind, Spirit Storm and Roar are quite underrated as well, especially the first one for how hard it hits and Spinning Slide works on some yokai attacks as well, plus you can change stance during the spin to use other skills.
heaven and earth is OP and axe is the moron grug weapon
just wearing heavy armor and trading hits works on virtually all enemies
Is it really? I feel like it takes way more timing and is more punishing compared to say, spears, tonfas and hatchets.
having stamina as a damage stat is what really makes it
I just let bosses hit me no problems at all
I have only played 1 but just throwing on an axe and heavy armor definitely did not allow you to facetrade. In fact heavy armor was barely viable at all until at least ng+
I hate the screaming woman so much, and crabs, I don't know how to kill crabs
Use every thing that contains lightning, or you have to wait until it's face turn back.
I actually prefer zhao yun in wolong more then DW.
POST YOU'RE HIDDYS
Here
I just used the default female hiddy. I was never very good at character creators.
>want to play nioh 2
>see all the weapons i want are behind dlc
I only remember buying the definitive edition. unironic skill issue
What's the sword or katana that can do several air slashing projectiles, saw some high level player use it and it seems really fun and op
It looked like this, except the effect was two times bigger

Ah right, "several projectiles" made me think ranged but Severing Spin is probably what it is then if it was the typical draw and sheathe anime Judgement Cut-esque move. Damn, that's cool as hell. Never had it drop and wasn't even aware it existed.
I think he means the hidden skill for katana: Severing Spin.
team ninja...nioh 3...please...
you may never catch up to souls game sales, buts its guaranteed money...
How good is this game for co-op play? I wanna see if I can run through this with a friend, do they get to use their own character?
It's great the lobbies add more enemies and has its own revival mechanics. You also share progress so you don't have to redo missions. Only downside is that some side missions aren't available
Oh neat, thanks I'll have to talk them into it then

hate this game and they skipped uesugi and takeda
what a trashpile
It must get boring at some point to spend every thread bouncing obvious repetitive rehearsed bait between you.
Wo Long (and SoP) are the way better ARPGs and action games, but you couldn't stunlock the boss for half the fight with Yokai bullshit and Gears of War active reload abusing the trash ki system so Niohgays chimped out like apes
Funny how often "unpopular" coincides with "moronic"
>the games that are on xbox are better
Don't think I don't see through you, anon.
