Pokemon was never good, decent is the best it ever got and OR/AS are better than R/S/E.
My issue with the water in hoenn isn't so much the encounters, it's how samey the areas are. The diving areas are really cool, and I love the shipwreck, but those are small parts of the map. If they had added way more content like islands and shit to find I would not mind it.

They did, like pic related and the other two secret areas with a ton of secret bases.
There was also the rapids to unlock the regis and a ton of dive spots that came into secret alcoves. It was good to begin with.
ORAS islands were boring though, they're just simple dungeons to catch one or two mons, and honestly I've done the regi quest a lot and those rapids are more irritating than anything
The games are also slow as shit. Not quite D/P level but they are really bad in terms of speed. Also I recently tried the gen 3 spin offs and holy shit those are basically torture with how slow every battle is in those games

If you lose just rechallenge them, duh. The EXP you get from failed attempts is much better than Victory Road grinding and your Amulet Coin will minimize the losses to your money.

What do you mean by after death? If you faint you get no exp from the enemy mon but you still get everything you got up until then. Like if you take out Mightyena and Shiftry with Breloom but choke on Absol you'll still get the exp gained from mightyena and shiftry.
Also are you trying to like perfect it or something, because I cannot imagine that you can't 6v1 a shitty absol with only aerial ace and slash.

I can get past the first few rather easily, its just that for the dark person, I only have brick break because of the stupid bullshit of darks only being weak to fighting and bug in gen 3. So my Breloom can either die to one of the darks, but kill the Absol, or kill the Absol, and die to some other dark type. GOD I wish there was a bug type TM
Make sure you don't lead with Breloom because Mightyena's Intimidate might be crippling you. AFAIK Breloom should be one-shotting Absol with ease
