They would be better, if it wasn't for all the multiverse/time janny bullshit. The problem is, even as sequels, the original sequel shit is just terribly written, and all the best bits are just the unchanged original, or slightly updated while changing as little as possible from the original.

I only played 7 and Crisis Core and 7 Remake and Rebirth. What am I in for with these games? I heard they are the best games after 7.

It isn't really a coherent story. You just go and solve this problem and this other problem until the problem becomes the big bad that's trying to destroy the world. It's a lot of fun and kind of a prototype FFV. I personally loved it.

Personally I think final fantasy is on the lower echelon of JRPGs and not once have I seen a person make a defense as to why it deserves to be among the greats. I cannot think of a single thing I'd go to bat for in a final fantasy game, not a single game with a standout quality.
