Really early on Mantic's manufacturing contracts in China are new. The Chinese end ran into a file problem, and in true outsourced-labor fashion they had a worker re-model the sculpts from reference essentially tracing the OG models. Early production problems again, their studio painter decided the (re)sculpted moustaches were skin. IIRC the goblins had a similar problem.
The Renedra produced stuff all turned out fine.
The Men at Arms and I think some others have since been replaced with new sculpts entirely.
Top has some idea behind it. A vague 15th century theme. Blocky, primitive firearms, religious fanaticism.
Bottom is generic "fantasy" slop. Absolutely uninspired.
Because they're just 15th century Romans with angelic accouterments added on.

Hahahahaha, when I was about 11 or so I bought a game about orcs and fantasy knight men shooting at each other's castles with with catapults.
The soft plastic knight men looked just like this.

>15th.c Romans
Italian urban militias in the 15th.c looked more like this, these models lack the style, and crossbowmen wont have worn barbutes.

>If you don't want to consoom GW, there are plenty of good 3D print options who are on par with GW in quality if not material.
This. At least shill something with an artistic vision. Mantic is both low quality and creatively bankrupt since they have no ideas other than trying to ape GW shit without running afoul of copyright laws.
Be fair man, that's probably at least half of the SF/Fantasy mini market.
Commercially understandable, but I am a bit bored of seeing a decent enough sculptor turn out yet another "space crusader".
>Be fair man
In the interest of fairness I will agree with you that at least half of the sci-fi/fantasy mini market is also creatively bankrupt and do a bunch of hack work copying GW
What's there to explain? Not a single thing of those other three men exist in art or existing artifacts, and are completely made up from vague interpretations, without a single real historic reference.
The handheld Greek fire super soaker is a nice touch too.
I don't even know how to respond to people like you. Is this supposed to be a funny meme? Like we all just sit here and pretend that GW isn't superior? Haha?
>Is this supposed to be a funny meme?
it’d be better id it was a bad faith meme rather than someone literally think Mantic sculpts are better than GW’s
You need exaggerated small details so they're visible on the tabletop. You know, for playing games, instead of arguing about photos online? Even still, the fist is obscured and his open hand is in a thick glove

>You need exaggerated small details so they're visible on the tablet
That's a lie. The reason things were so chunky was because of technological limitations. You simply couldn't cast fine pieces back in the day.

Not that anon but it's logical. Jes Goodwin even cites it as the reason for his "big hat" designs. >The reason things were so chunky was because of technological limitations. You simply couldn't cast fine pieces back in the day.
That is utter bollocks though. One technical reason for chunky minis was that lead was soft and fine minis would easily bend.
Because they've been in the industry for nearly 50 years and were one of the spearheads for early fantasy/scifi wargaming?
Non-existant competition.
>If you don't want to consoom GW, there are plenty of good 3D print options who are on par with GW in quality if not material.

Mantic is shittier than gw
even as GW declines and declines, mantic models are still shittier.
I really wish that there was a good competitor for GW but Mantic is not it, they are consistently crap
There are plenty of historicals better than GW but for fantasy the only thing that i'd say is better (in design if not fidelity) is the oathmark kits
Mantic are actually impressive in how they continue to limbo under the design bar that gw lowers further and further
> they have no ideas other than trying to ape GW
That's the entire point of Mantic. It's a bunch of ex-GW employees unfricking the rulesets for GW's games. Mantic exists to provide streamlined GW games with proper tournament feedback, they actively encourage just using your GW models for their games even in tournaments. GW exists to sell models, while Mantic exists in response to the fact GW prioritizes expensive models over the actual games or affordable sets.
Even their twitter feed lampoons GW's shit, pic related. It's a company for people that hate what GW's become and just want to play games.
Mantic huh, they still alive?
They have a huge catalog of mechanically solid games that exist to make classic grognard accessible.
This is the same old yada-yada. What has GW "become" exactly? What did they do so much better 25 years ago when I got into the hobby?
>the rules
There's nothing wrong with GW's rules. It only appears to be problems because there's a legion of WAAC-gays who have created a "competitive scene". Other games don't have this so the rules appear to be balanced. Stay away from the "pro gamers" and you'll be fine.
>GW exists to sell models
Hilarious how everything always boils down to this moronic point. All the whining about GW can be summarized into: "I hate them because they made a miniature in their factory, marketed it on their website and are now selling it in their store."
Oh, and if I want to play a non-GW game I happily play OPR. Because unlike Mantic products it's actually good.
>There's nothing wrong with GW's rules
Normally I would have agreed with you, but 10th edition getting rid of points costs for wargear has created some really, really dumb situations where some units are totally useless. Take the sword and board Wraithknight for example, it's currently overcosted to the tune of ~200 (!) points because it shares a datasheet with the extremely powerful dual cannon variant.
Their "streamlined" rules are just moronic, they copy stupid things like the horde base sizes without questioning or improving it. It's obvious they've never played any other wargames
I realize you're baiting, but holy shit those models look bad. The cloaked assassin-thing might be debatable, but goddamn all the others are so fricking awful. Just awful.
>Oh no manticsisters! No one wants to buy our shitty minis! How can this be? >It must be because people are stupid! If only their IQ was higher our stuff would surely sell!
Cope
>warmachine and hordes in the top 5 >PP just fricking dead >X-wing >also fricking dead
What even happened to X-wing? It was doing so strong, then it just imploded and disappeared.
Is this picture supposed to prove how incompetent GW is? I'm sure they will be crushed by the creative and financial geniuses over at Privateer at any moment now!
(People were actually saying this back in the day)
It will be interesting to see how things settle once GW unfricks their supply situation. It's ironic how they're suffering from the exact same problem Battletech used to (can't buy the damn models because they're not on shelves) just as Battletech gets their supply problems sorted.
>warhammer is popular because it's popular
How many times have we been through this stale argument. Brand inertia is a meme and a piss poor excuse for why others cannot compete.
Mantic is shittier than gw
even as GW declines and declines, mantic models are still shittier.

>Mantic are actually impressive in how they continue to limbo under the design bar that gw lowers further and further
That's because they take every shitty GW design and add some random extra crap to it to try and resell it. It's only logical that as GW designs decline, ill planned copies will decline along with them.
Instead of hating GW beause they are dominant why don't people hate the other manufacturers for being utterly unable to compete in any way.
By Jesus, I just did a little experiment and went to Privateer Press' homepage and there's not a single photo of their minis on the front page. Not even when you scroll.
>no pauldrons >can't even see their hands >no expression on their faces >weapons so thin they will break immediately >plain armor with no detail sculpted in >everyone is white >tactical rock >for a game that nobody has ever heard of and nobody plays
These are more shit than anything GW has ever put away out. Face it. No one can or will ever make better minis than Games Workshop does. It's a factual impossibility.
I think most people that own KoW figures post them elsewhere.
Someone's buying them, otherwise there'd be no capital to make all these new kits. ancient Egyptian melee cavalry still pisses me off they didn't fricking have that
I remember there was a good local community for Confrontation. The annual convention in my city had a nice tournament with enthusiastic organizers and wonderful terrain. Wargamers were in awe and many (me included) started to get into the game.
And then Rackham made le epic business decision and Confrontation was dead. Some people still gave them a chance, even bought some AT-43 boxes but soon everyone gave up and went back to Warhammer.
The models that tanked mantic's reputation look about on par and on theme.
There is a really good story behind these.
Really early on Mantic's manufacturing contracts in China are new. >generic "fantasy" slop. Absolutely uninspired.
bruh
While the quality of the new models are clearly better, it looks like the most generic mid 2000's fantasy RTS unit ever. Boring asf.
It looks like how Byzantine infantry that had literal angels in their city would look like.
How the frick do you think that?
Nothing screams ´Byzantine aesthetics at all
Because they're just 15th century Romans with angelic accouterments added on.

>A vague 15th century theme
It doesn't, it really doesn't. 15th century of fricking what?
Nah, I don't dig Age of Smegma aesthetics but from a purely objective quality standpoint, the GW models are vastly superior.
If you don't want to consoom GW, there are plenty of good 3D print options who are on par with GW in quality if not material.

Everything is this picture is pure fantasy except the dude on the right. Angus McBride is a good artist, but not a historian.
explain how
What's there to explain? Not a single thing of those other three men exist in art or existing artifacts, and are completely made up from vague interpretations, without a single real historic reference.
The handheld Greek fire super soaker is a nice touch too.
That's not McBride, it looks like Giuseppe Rava
Mantic is shittier than GW.
There's a reason GW stays on top decade after decade.
Twilight kin say otherwise, paypiggie.
I don't even know how to respond to people like you. Is this supposed to be a funny meme? Like we all just sit here and pretend that GW isn't superior? Haha?

Anyone that doesn't use GW's moronic proportions is better by default.
>he thinks those "human" proportions aren't moronic
t. has fists the size of his head

I don’t think you know what this word means
GW barely even uses GW proportions anymore, which is a shame, because I liked the chunky models
TOW looks like it'll be chunky so you're covered.
>There's a reason GW stays on top decade after decade
A loyal fanbase and lord of the rings?
Non-existant competition.

Because GW fanbase is full of sóylent cultists obsessed with drinking the green slop 24/7 and never looking elsewhere because of OCD and autism.
"But but, I spend thousands of buckerinos to pay for all of my collection!"
>Oh no manticsisters! No one wants to buy our shitty minis! How can this be?

FFG was bought by Asmodee and faced with French management
It just stopped being made so they could re-launch another star wars game.
Is this picture supposed to prove how incompetent GW is? I'm sure they will be crushed by the creative and financial geniuses over at Privateer at any moment now!

Fricking Battletech outperforming AoS is too perfect.
It will be interesting to see how things settle once GW unfricks their supply situation. It's ironic how they're suffering from the exact same problem Battletech used to (can't buy the damn models because they're not on shelves) just as Battletech gets their supply problems sorted.
Brand inertia?

You say while proving it true, buying GW just because it's GW.
doot skeleton is the only one of those models that doesn't look like total shit

It also doesn't help that mantic's basic design principles are consistently 20 years behind GW's.
Those models look good for rank and flank
The painter is better than anybody I play with too
So if Basilea is the Roman Empire and Ophidia is Egypt then who the hell are the Ottomans? Is it the dwarves?
Instead of hating GW beause they are dominant why don't people hate the other manufacturers for being utterly unable to compete in any way.
By Jesus, I just did a little experiment and went to Privateer Press' homepage and there's not a single photo of their minis on the front page. Not even when you scroll.
The models look like 3D versions of darkest dungeons character designs.
OH MY GOD IT'S CORVUS BELLI WITH A STEEL CHAIR

LMAO
I wish the Manticchads would post some nice photos in the /wip/ but there's never any Mantic posted there ever which is very strange.
I think most people that own KoW figures post them elsewhere.
Someone's buying them, otherwise there'd be no capital to make all these new kits.
ancient Egyptian melee cavalry still pisses me off they didn't fricking have that

why? are you gay? a shill? not from around these parts? just moronic?
I like these models. Sorry, don't really see the issue.
