Easily doable by simply setting the controls to one that uses the pad for movement, definetly possible with press-to-aim on original hardware because I did it myself as a kid. Highlights for shitty levels with press-to-aim were mission 2, area 51 infiltration, air force one antiterrorism, and skedar ruins. Rest were not too bad. Swapping to pad movement made the entire thing a joke, playing the 360 port on the other hand.... god the aim was fricky could never get good settings.
maybe try the PC port that recently got finished/released?
https://github.com/fgsfdsfgs/perfect_dark
it's already configured to use mouse and keyboard controls. all you need is a perfect dark 64 rom file which you can get at vimmslair website.
runs and looks great too, so you don't have to deal with the N64 hardware limitations.
>The game is in a somewhat functional but probably unstable state. There are major graphical issues, minor audio issues and possibly other issues.
Is the github description out of date or are you making shit up?
not sure actually, i played it a lot all the way up until around the submarine level. i encountered a few small glitches but nothing game breaking, and i think most of them got fixed with later versions.
Goldeneye and PD both had analog stick aiming with 1.2 controls. It's not that different from modern games. Your memory is distorting something incorrectly.
the aiming feels great, just like any other FPS game on pc. i think it's just based on your mouse sensitivity or something. there's a way to change some of the settings i think, but i haven't looked into it much.
I didn't play that native PC port, but years ago I emulated it on 1964 with a KB+M mod it the controls were amazing. I was surprised how well it worked on PC.

here's a video talking about the PC port with the github link as well, just so you know it's legit!
man it had some absolute kino levels
I remember playing it as kid an getting all the gold medals in every stage due to autism
frick that bonus stage where you control the alien, holy shit it was hard as frick
TimeSplitters 2, being made of the same DNA - cucks players out a good chunk out of a few levels if they're playing on Easy. Otherwise, Hard generally makes more optional objectives mandatory. Some co-op player starts are different too.
Technically Doom can alter more than just monster placements on a per-difficulty basis, like alternate key placements, but it's very rarely used for that purpose.
>no healing items
that's playable >Spawning 8 bots, N-bombs enabled, you friend throws remote mines everywhere. Game slows to 0.1 frames per second
now that's literally unplayable.
>early 2000s >saturday night >4 players >4 bots >me and my friends vs bots >n-bombs and knives only >complex
Holy frick it was so much fun. I wanna go back.
Can this be played on an N64 emulator with mouse and keyboard? Last time I tried it, it was buggy as hell. If so, which emulator and plugin(s) do I need?
You get shield pickups anon
you didn't beat the game, perfect agent or nothing
just don't get shot gay lmao
some """perfect agent""" you are
>healing items are the issue
>not the game running at the frame rate lower than an N64 spergs iq
get your priorities in check
best shooter of the generation

>agent is laughably easy
>special agent is pretty hard
>perfect agent is bullshit hard
>perfect dark difficulty is impossible on original hardware
dark difficulty is impossible on original hardware
Why?
You're not beating that unless you play on PC with a mouse+keyboard mod and 60 FPS.
i beat them all except the bonus alien mission

>perfect dark difficulty is impossible
Perfect Dark allows the user to customize the difficulty and is as hard or as easy as you make it.
>well I set everything to max and--
okay, have fun, I gotta go
>Perfect Dark allows the user to customize the difficulty
It doesn't unless you use the in-game cheat codes.
4th difficulty is the cheat difficulty where you can set reactions
"Perfect Dark" is the name of the unlocked customizable difficulty mode.
Just don't get hurt, you do it IRL all the damn time
i keep getting killed on the last part of the first level on PA.
It's difficult, I remember the first time I did it I just hung around the elevator picking off guys as they came, they stop coming eventually.

How the frick does the wonky floaty aiming even work with a mouse?

Installed here and it's running and playing great, but is there a way to remap the default keyboard bindings?
hell yeah. yes, you can edit the 'pd.ini' in the folder by opening it with notepad. you can also edit some of the video settings there and shit.
kek I swear I looked in the executable folder and didn't see an .ini. But yeah, it's there now that I double checked, thanks.
Don't get hit.
You didn't beat the game.
You have to beat the game to unlock it. Well, I did, anyway, I guess cheats are possible but I never learned them for this game.

other games that change levels based on difficulty?

Bruh, I literally got three IRL friends and just played four-player deathmatch with them in 2018.
t. Zoom zoom zoomie with the hots for Joanna Dark
WHO ARE YOU, YOUNG LADY?
Its time
favorite mission? I loved the airforce one section
I'm gonna be cliché and say Chicago. I really love that level's vibe.
In second place I would say a tie between Area 51 and Crash Site.
probably the carrington villa level, but it's close between that and the second level where you rescue the flying AI laptop.
the airforce one level is a solid choice, that and the one before it is really cool.
oh I remember that farsight stupid rifle, it was hilarious to use

The last great console shooter. Gaylo ruined everything.
sorry sweaty but halo is the greatest fps of all time
