I'll never forgive Kojima for all the kino scenes he depicted like this in which we see Big Boss descending into madness and cruelty, only for him to pull the rug from under our feet and do a shitty twist that completely eradicated the point of the game.
Yes, but it's not one I experience in a positive way by virtue of connecting deeply with the material. Rather, it's cheaply done and is the easy way out, if anything.
It doesn't because as you're doing all that shit BB is sitting idly by and letting it happen. In fact he decided to sacrifice all of you just to save his ass. By the start of the game he was already an butthole, if you need a reason as to why, that has been explored in 3, PW and GZ already
Yes, that's my point. The trailer sells us a completely different product, if you will.

PW, if anything, serves as the beginning of BB's fall, not the end. His whole speech about rejecting the Boss and his identity as Snake is meant to symbolise his descent into hell, not the journey entire. GZ is much the same, it's a great starting point but, the real meat and potatoes of his story is instead replaced by his body double who, in fact, acts in a completely unexpected manner by;
- Sparing Huey
- Sparing Quiet
- Sparing the children
I'm supposed to believe that I am watching the corruption of BB's soul and his journey into cruelty but, all the while Venom is making paragon choices. I'm surprised there isn't a scene where you air drop Christmas presents over an orphanage.
maybe this idea is shit but maybe kojimbo could have ditched the big ending "twist" and be upfront about the body double thing about 1/3 of the game and have you switch between venom who was the "face" of the operation having the more upfront operations and gathering loyal mercenary followers and BB doing some real conniving dirty shit and sending those same followers to the meat grinder
they could explain his callousness towards his men by his experience and trauma in operation snake eater and how he himself and the boss being disposable pawns made him develop this outlook
we got bikini mute lady instead
i do like the whole body double angle and i may get shit on for my opinion but i do like
kiefer sutherlands voice acting, all his three lines in the game
its a shame kojima is a shitter and his superstar legendary vidya game producer got to his head and the narrative of the game suffered for it
dude had free reign and a massive budget and he shit the bed people gave konami shit but they had to reign in kojitard because he was pissing money away and had nothing to show for it for a long time

yeah they could have shown how BB went off to the deep end and was willing to sacrifice his men, who adored him, in the name of his goals and interests venom being the prime example
I agree in that I think Sutherland's voice acting was good, though I do wish he had more dialogue. The body double angle isn't necessarily a bad one, I just think it was the wrong time to be pulling that kind of twist. MGSV, for the most part, should have been a very straightforward story to make, especially with all the comparison to Moby Dick. The story is about one man's obsession and desire for revenge hurting himself and the people around him, but he heedlessly continues. It was a simple, straight line to the finish and Kojima had to take a complicated path that ultimately disappoints and fails to deliver.
Venom trying his best in the role of Big Boss was a much more compelling story than BB going around doing ridiculously edgy shit just to show that he's LE BAD now.
>woaaah he shot a bunch of kids I GET IT NOW HE'S EVIL!
this doesn't make for a good story, it sounds extremely shallow, especially when MGS2 exists and shows that you can do more with subverting expectations
I honestly have no idea how anyone can adopt this position. The same reductionist take could apply to your own view of the game. Of course it sounds shallow if you write it like that.
The point of such a story would be to capitalise on the drama between the characters and create conflict and tensions between them, the acts that BB would commit are only the vehicle in which we would explore said conflicts and tensions.
Read a fricking book.
You're just mad 8 years later because you didn't get what you wanted. It doesn't matter how good the story is because it's not about Big Boss killing kids.
nta but you are just strawmaning the real grievances people have with the narrative of the story
i can only speak for myself but my issue the narrative of MGS5 is that it throws a whole lot of story beats that dont go anywhere and are very superficial and dont really connect with the metal gear games that chronologically follow
its almost as kojima was throwing story ideas around and wanted them all crammed in but got bored with each one and hopped on to the next one he came up in his sleep or something >muh cipher >muh skullface >muh huey >WOLBACHIA >muh grumpy liquid snake somehow in africa >volgin wakes up as a flaming zombie in cyprus
I'm convinced that mission 51 was left out of the game on purpose, solely because of the fact that it's labeled "Phantom Episode" in the blue ray it comes in
Kojimbo does it again

"Chapter 3 was never finished" is MGSV's version of FF8's "Squall is actually dead: And other fan thories"
Fpbp, thanks for ripping the bandaid off for me, anon.

So it is a phantom pain ?
Yes, but it's not one I experience in a positive way by virtue of connecting deeply with the material. Rather, it's cheaply done and is the easy way out, if anything.
Well phantom pain is pain so you are hurt aren't you ?

But enough about what wasn't in the game

Right, sorry. Read your comment wrong.

Anyone who thought it did was a fricking moron
It existed in some form because the CHAPTER 3 title screen is literally in your game files. You can datamine it yourself
it's the same as peace walker's chapter 5, which had no new story and just served as a post-game
9 years it will get releasded. its only 8
I miss caramel….
>liquid and mantis steal a metal gear from mother base
>literally nothing happens about this
Find out it MGSIIIIII
>huey lewis builds you a giant battle mech
>literally nothing happens about this
>wolbachia makes infected soldiers sterile
>literally nothing happens about this

It's unfinished, and I will be always seethe and hate Konami for this.

Correct. The game was beyond incomplete.
