Yes, the world has gone stagnant on all fronts, there needs to be a major period of change.

Work long enough and your employer will start doing shit to you that they absolutely could get arrested for if you had the balls to seek legal counsel. They just count on you not having the balls to do it. Grow a pair, get a conviction, then sue. In the meantime, enjoy your payed leave (or unemployment + wrongful termination money if they're true scumbags and think they can retaliate like that).

I'm not playing video games to finish them, I'm playing them to enjoy them, as a hobby. There's no point in playing a game if I'm not in the mood or have the mental energy to be totally absorbed in it. I need to be at 100% to enjoy gaming. Paying money to mindlessly press buttons in response to flashing lights like a machine sounds miserable.
Especially if it's a narrative heavy game, if I'm spacy and tired I'm just going to read the text and immediately forget what I just read, not comprehend and absorb the information.

Also not sure about Adderall but I've been taking 5 hour energy about once a week if I'm having trouble staying awake on the job. I also drink coffee in the morning.

Open offices look like this, if I walked in day 1 to anything like this I'd quit on the spot.
Before I was WFH I had two different positions, a solo cubicle with a sliding door I could close, and an actual office split with me and another person.
I hated the 2 person office, despite my "neighbor" being relatively quiet. If I had to share it with 3 other people I would be out of there.

I can't imagine a more cancerous environment. My fiance works in an office and it's oppressive and dehumanizing. If anything were ever an example of anti-community classism it would be the corporate office.

Your annual leave or your notice period for wanting to quit? A month is fairly standard for the latter, and only goes up in time as you take on more responsibility.

I'm sure your employer has reserved the right to give you only a week's notice if they need to get rid of you though.

yeah my leave period of quitting. getting fired is about a week or on the spot depending on how bad you fricked up. i thought unless you’re a manager it goes more than 2 weeks though?

If you're in burgerland you don't legally have to give any notice, you're at will and can quit whenever.
Doing so however will burn a bridge with that company and it would be a bad idea to put them on your resume. So probably not the best move if your goal is to beef up your resume.
Just start applying to job listings online in your area via linkedin and other places. If you live out in the middle of nowhere and can't find another IT job then frick it, quit and go work a wagie job.
Note: if you work a wagie job make your resume look more shit that it actually is, your local walmart doesn't want a guy with a 4 year degree and years of work in the field, they want morons who will act as cogs in the machine.

that’s exactly it, anon. i dont want to burn a bridge cos i dont want to piss away a year and a half of my life for barely anything in return. im not in the US, i’m in europe, but that’s beside the point - i want this on my CV. it is looking like i might just get a wagie job because i hate dealing with morons on the phone day in day out. i dont need to be rich, i just want to pay for things without having a job that actually makes me want to kill myself sometimes because it’s so frustrating everyday. maybe i’m just meant for menial warehouse work and that’s fine.

I WFH, Got a really nice paying job that's paying me 120k a year but they lied to me about a lot of shit.

    >The job is located in Quebec, but they assured me I wouldn't need french. Turns out when joining, nearly every meeting is in french and I can't speak it very well.

    >The team i'm managing is near retirement age, and are all 55+ years old. I'm the youngest person in our department, and I feel very strange about having to manage my dad / grandparents.

    >They want me to travel to another city (Montreal) once a month, for up to 2-5 days at a time. The job was said to be fully remote, and when I joined I found out they expect me to travel.. which I am against as I have a family and shit.

The money is good, but I honestly hate my team and the software they use / develop is ancient. Would I be fricking crazy to quit? I'm kind of lost here and not sure what to do.

Also the company is full of pajeets and they made a prayer mat to our CEO which was pretty cringey and they are always posting "good morning" or "thank you" to every automated message thats posted in chat.

    Help

      Anonymous

Yeah just hop and take that pay raise somewhere else. One of our teams is like that, not all the pajeet stuff but the "its remote (but actually you need to go out of state one week every month)" shit. Everybody they moved on to that team quit it after a few months and I refused to go to it when asked.
If everyone on the team is old boomers that is a terrible sign, it means all of the young people have better job opportunities and won't work it, so they had to bring the people who don't know any better or will be loyal to the company no matter what on.

I've probably also been on this site longer than you're alive, don't be mad at me because I went into a career where I can be payed somewhat decently at a manager level. Reevaluate your life and make a positive change, m8.

This guy is so close but is scapegoating the faceless "capitalists" as the ones enforcing the new rule of work. But the progression in technology was the thing that spurred the change in work culture. The invention of the mechanical clock, the industrial revolution, artificial lighting and heating allowing for longer work days.

The reason work was so disorganized and laid back prior to this is because the business owners lacked the proper means of control. Technology gave them this control and allowed them to monitor, quantify and dehumanize workers.

Progress in technology caused capitalism, not the other way around. This guy seems hell-bent on portraying it the other way around. He doesnt even mention the industrial revolution's effect at all and resorts to calling the perpetrators "industrial capitalists" as if they were the only ones who went through the industrial revolution. Every person in society went through it.
