I honestly think RE8 should've been a the SoR DLC but the map design is huge and intricate like OG RE1. RE7's strengths lied in horror so RE8 should've been more slow-paced horror-survival with 10/10 puzzles since SoR has a layer of surrealism to the layout of each room.

Code Veronica takes it to an annoying extreme though. There are like 4 mansion sized areas all in the first hour or so of the game with millions of things to keep track of. It's not good. It's not well designed. It's boring, frustrating garbage.

You’re used to running past enemies and saving ammunition in most re games, but shit always hits you if you don’t kill it in CV, there’s more ammo than you expect, and you have to backtrack so many times compared to other games that trying to run past them is counter productive.

It was a good game even if it starts a little slow and has a virus that apparently makes people spurt blood that spontaneously combusts.
This was the first RE game I ever played, having grown up with Nintendo consoles before eventually getting a PS2 as I got older.
Game is great IMO. The nemmy heli fight filtered me the first time, but I just started a new save over and did better next time.
Learning to conserve ammo and dodge zombies was alive and well here (at least until Chris shows up at the end with infinite shotgun shells), and the atmosphere was amazingly campy and stupid.
What's not to like?

In my experience, the people who have only played the remake games hate it. The game requires you to think ahead even more than the other games, so it filters a lot of the nu-RE fans.

I played Code Veronica X for the first time 3 years ago, I played every Resident Evil game except for the Wii ones.
And I can saw CV was boring as frick, too long to have nothing good in it, a lot of senseless backtracking and moron characters.
I also don't want more remakes, I want a multiplayer game like Outbreak or for them to revive/fix Resident Evil: Resistance, but I know those things won't happen.

I've not played Dino Crisis so I can't pass judgement on it but from what I've seen of it I'd probably put it in good or great tier as well.
I'd be willing to bump RE2make down to good tier but only because of the lack of the zapping system, which is admittedly a big deal but I'm of the opinion that you should play both to get the complete Resident Evil 2 experience though that might just be recency bias talking and I can understand why someone would put it lower. I don't think I could put it in dirt tier strictly because it wasn't butchered to the same extent as RE3make even if there is still cut content in RE2make.

people love it for the atmosphere and playing around with your OG knowledge. but it's atrocious to play and even more so to replay. burning down zombies is fun at first time but really annoying ever after. tactically killing and avoiding threats is infinitely less fun and less effective with the Crimson Heads. getting out of grabs require even more specific items. boss fights are just not fun.
on top the background is meh. it's ok in GC. in the remasters it looks like it got stretched in MS paint.
The story is definitely ass, but I do like the game itself. The prison island is pretty cool and the puzzles on it are extensive and not as straight forward as most other REs. Which is good. But does it need a remake? Hell no. Besides it basically already got one: Revelations 2. Clair trapped on another prison island (what are the odds) to be rescued by another stars member, with a lame love interest that mutates and tries to kill her, just like CV.
