i mean, i see what you're talkin about, but for the purposes of gameplay the fierce deity's mask is basically just the biggoron sword (technically the great fairy's sword is that but who wants to use a c button for a sword?), although lore wise it's pretty interesting yeah, nice how they let ya fill in the blanks
but gameplay wise, imo the zelda with the best items/weapons is skyward sword
>i mean, i see what you're talkin about, but for the purposes of gameplay the fierce deity's mask is basically just the biggoron sword
Not even remotely true. The fierce deity mask was more of a just for fun insta win button.
I stand by the belief that the Oracle games haven't been topped. Roc's Feather/Cape, Magnet Gloves, the different seed shooters, etc. gave the game a ton of variety in how you approached combat or traversing terrain. It's a damn shame that Nintendo likely won't ever bother with another 2D Zelda, outside of remakes.
The first time I played Majora's Mask and got to the inside of the moon, I thought you needed all masks in order to face Majora, so I went back and started collecting all of them. Got the oni mask and then fought Majora.
Yeah, the helix sword made the fight pretty trivial, but it's still something I'll never forget, so fricking cool.
Later on I fought Majora again, without the mask and also enjoyed the whole fight as intended.
Oni Link needs to return in some form.
All the masks represent link going through various cycles of reincarnation until he achieves a state of enlightenment which is represented by him trading all the masks for the fierce deity mask which allows him to easily defeat the shackles of Majora(personification of the buddhist concept of Maya) and thus transcend physical existence to achieve true liberation of Nirvana. Majora's Mask is basically Buddhism the Video Game.
I'm guessing the tree in the moon is supposed be like the tree Buddha achieved enlightenment under as well as symbolism for the world-tree. Majora's Mask is interesting for just how deep a game it is, though the gameplay isn't the best.
>Recycling Adult Link from OoT with an edgier skin and an absurd Biggoron Sword
Meh, it only seemed worth the hype in Hyrule Warriors, though that's kind of a cheat since Musous overexaggerate everything for the sake of the power-trip.
Now you can shoot sword beams? Nah, the NES games have that from the sword you get at the start and you weren't restricted to just boss fights with it.
The beams bypassing armor, damage on the sword and beams, and range increase do to the absurd size of the fierce diety cast a looming shadow over either of those weapons
Now you can shoot sword beams? Nah, the NES games have that from the sword you get at the start and you weren't restricted to just boss fights with it.
Hes technically correct, heart pieces are also a pretty large part of the game. Idk anyone who would get all the mask and not get the heart pieces but it is possible.
>Idk anyone who would get all the mask and not get the heart pieces
Me, I never get all the heart pieces. Getting masks is fun though, don't even care about the Fierce Deity, the sidequests themselves are good
I never get all the heart pieces. The puzzles to get them are usually uninteresting to me, and I don't find the reward that exciting. The game is easy enough as it is, so I don't need 20 hearts. The masks unlock dialogue and change game mechanics and stuff, that's definitely worth it to me.
It's something I've been missing since MM, and really kinda annoying when BotW should have been full of stuff like that.
The equipment you dig up in the DLC should have been god damn quest rewards if Nintendo had added content to their big empty sandbox.

they did it pretty well in skyward sword
even the shops were useful
It made Link hyper OP, so not useless, but not needed to beat the game.
It's cool for when you want to frick around in any given zone of the game post-temple (like unfrozen Snowhead) since you can just teleport to the boss room and dispatch the boss very quickly.
Something I didn't learn until years after the fact was that you can take the Fierce Deity's mask and fight the dungeon bosses with it. Felt rather satisfying doing a victory lap before taking out Majora
It's kind of pointless anyway, going anywhere as Oni Link might seem fun but it's more special if you can only use it against bosses. Using him outside boss rooms is a nice novelty but it's not like the game doesn't give you alternatives to kid link. I mostly use Goron mask because of the sweet rolling, as I imagine most people do, or Deku mask because of the spin
quick blog about finding this mask: One day I took out my Majora's Mask cartridge to find my the data somehow corrupted itself and my saves were deleted. This perplexed me but I continued with a new save anyway. When I got to the mask salesman cutscene a glitch occurred where for one moment link's model was swapped with the fierce deity model clipping through the floor. this ABSOLUTELY SHATTERED my mind as a kid since I had not beat the game and had absolutely no knowledge of FD link or even adult link for that matter since I didn't have OoT at this point (I know). anyway whats really fricked up is after the first three day cycle the game would glitch itself and delete the save, so it was as if the moon prophecy was inevitable in this world. I know this sounds like some made up ben-drowned bs but it is 100% fact, didn't beat the game for years because of this and it remained a mystery for me until I talked to some older kid on the playground about what FD mask was. shortly after this I played OoT and eventually finished MM which is a game ill never forget.
Was satisfying as hell to finally get the fierce deity's mask, and then ultimately use a gameshark to use any item at any time, basically as a badass adult link. Fierce deity ran around faster than bunnyhood link IIRC
why are you here? what part of that design hurts something inside you in a way that other zelda shit doesn't? genuinely asking bc its not exactly shadow the hedgehog.

Replayed it recently and that game is awful for a great many reasons besides the aesthetics. Then you've got BotW which is a tech demo missing the actual game, and... that's it, because despite the passage of >20 years Nintendo now has a dev cycle like one of those corpse-flowers that blooms once a decade and smells rotten.
I like ww for the aesthetics and ocean based setting but other than that it's just clearly a step down and obviously unfinished. The ending is alright though and the last time zelda really tried in that department
>The ending is alright though
Watch the credits of OoT or MM and then watch WW's and you'll see just how half-baked the whole thing is.
Kinda glad they rushed that stunted half-formed abomination of a game out, compared to anything else though, TP was the best they've done since MM and even if it's mediocre compared to the N64 gold-standard it was only decent because of the (very much deserved) frosty critical response to WW.
But this is basically just me screaming at the McDonalds cashier for not making a decent beef burger, when Fromsoft is just down the road making (almost) exactly what I want. Nintendo gonna Nintendo.
Eternally frustrated Aonuma played Skyrim (2011) and was inspired by that, and that that is why BotW exists- because he was depressed after people spurned SS (2011); instead of playing Dark Souls (also 2011) or Demons' Souls (2009).
They had a template with the N64 Zeldas! And if that's not enough to impress players in the 2010's, Fromsoft was out there making good games even back then! I don't know why Nintendo thought it was a good idea to make a gigantic open world game (full of nothing) then try to get it running on the Switch/Wii U- hardware which was obsolete when it was new, and which is now 7-10+ years old.

Where do you see Skyrim in BotW? There were rumors that Skyrim inspired Dragon's Dogma but even that's dubious. It was Ass Creed and Red Dead that was really influential for Jap games with big interactive maps, especially Ass Creed which Jap devs are pretty obsessed with. Skyrim's map barely has any interaction at all.

>Where do you see Skyrim in BotW?
not him but the devs themselves said they were inspired by Skyrim, i'm not joking and if you make me post source i will, but i'll also call you a homosexual for doubting me becaise anybody with a brain stem can see the similarities. run around field, collect herbs and mushrooms, etc. it's the same open world format we've had for years. BotW was nothing special. arguably, it was less impressive than oblivion.
Majora's Mask is not only one of the worst Zelda games, but it's one of the gayest games ever made. It's a complete cash grab made by a team who took assets from one of the all time best games and made a literal moron simulator. Majora's Mask is about a gay and mentally ill child that spends his time stalking people out of loneliness and depression. He watches people from a distance, he tracks people to their homes, he takes photos of intimate moments he has no part of, he writes fricking notes about every person he meets and tracks their daily habits, he even goes into occupied restrooms uninvited -- all (allegedly) in some convoluted attempt to prevent a fricking moon with a face from crashing into a small town. Putting aside the bizarrely moronic plot, the gameplay is no better. The devs successfully took a semi-open world adventure game ans made it as restrictive and tedious as possible. A series built on freedom and exploration was, with Majora's Mask, reduced to a set of minigames and sidequests that are shallow and repetitive, and the world that contains them is small, linear and poorly designed. Majora's Mask is a small, chatty Zelda game made for homosexuals who play things like Persona. It is a bad game in every respect and anyone who likes it should feel shame and embarassment.
There are official mangas for all of the retro 3D games as far as I know. The Twilight Princess one only recently ended, too. There's even a Four Swords Adventures one.
Did FD appear in anything else other than Hyrule Warriors?
From what I can tell, yeah they used the OOT Adult Link model as base then made changes to it. The hair looks the same to me, same as the pose, etc.
But I dunno, someone should make a proper comparison because Kid Link's model is different from OOT Kid Link, not exactly the same model, though again, they used the original as a base obviously.
>someone should make a proper comparison
I agree.
There's a lot of small differences between oot and mm link beyond the superior textures, face and polycount, which be cool to actually see compared in detail. Especially any animation differences, any skeleton differences and so on.
Yeah but thats kid link. I say diety is literally just a texture swap because I remember old project 64 mods using that rice video plugin that made deity adult link. Looked 1:1 to me. If anything its definitely the same animations.
Even kid Link is a different model from his OOT incarnation. The whole "reussed assets from OOT" thing has to be taken with a grain of salt because, while yeah a lot of npcs were reused, it was not a simple lazy copy and paste, they retouched most of them.
Fierce Deity Link felt like a proper reward to a game that only let you play as a kid in Link's hylian form (Zora Link was close to controlling adult Link), but finally be able to have not only an adult Link form but also one that's a literal OP demon was really nice.
>it was not a simple lazy copy and paste
Honestly I don't understand why people would be upset even if this was the case. Real life actors play different characters in different movies despite being the same real person. What difference would it make if Link was in 2 games.
I doubt people play games just for the character graphics rather than the entire package/experience.
To me, the merit of Link's second story shouldn't be diminished just because it's Link again. It's not about who he is, but what he does.
Outside of technical aspects, I feel as though OoT and MM are hardly even comparable. All the way down to the tone.
It's because people love to nitpick anything about things and act smart about it, the absolute midwits.
Especially if it's with popular franchises like Zelda, so they can "own" the fans or something.
I just finished the PC port of OoT, first time beating the game and I loved it.
I really want to play MM now, but I don't think I'll be able to enjoy it at the god awful performance it runs at. I have played MM many time before, it's my favorite Zelda. But last time I tried replaying I quit at the water temple due to some awful stutters. I played it on an n64, I don't know if emulation is better. But after play OoT at 60fps I think it'd be hard to go back to 25fps
All this to ask. Have any of the coding spergs mentioned if they'll try porting MM to pc as well ?
If that room in the water temple in OOT spawned Dark Link, does that mean the hypothetically there could be a Dark Fierce Deity Link?
And how OP would he be?
>You can't swim fast/dolphin jump without using the magic barrier, and they dont put any new magic jars around to compensate for it.
ah, damn... why'd they do that?
zora swimming freely was one of my favorite things in the game.
btw speaking of majora, I was just checking the NP thread and saw these pages, worth a read:
>100%s the entire game in japanese before even attempting to translate it so he can have full context
and thats why nintendos localization team used to always blow konami and others out of the water.
They changed all 3 forms actually.
Deku link cant spin hop anymore and is slower, goron links roll input got changed from hold to press toggles, and of course zora link got completely butchered.
They also changed all 4 of the bosses, now requiring the proper transformation mask to beat each one.
Never heard of people complaining about no fishing on MM, though if you told me there was a fishing minigame in MM I would believe it, my memory is hazy on all the mini games it has, but legit never read anyone complaining about lack of it.
It makes sense though, fishing was super popular in OOT.

I mean adding fishing is a plus but its pretty trivial
i mean, i see what you're talkin about, but for the purposes of gameplay the fierce deity's mask is basically just the biggoron sword (technically the great fairy's sword is that but who wants to use a c button for a sword?), although lore wise it's pretty interesting yeah, nice how they let ya fill in the blanks

Yeah I think the lore makes up for it being fairly mundane overall, however I think it’s a great reward for getting every mask xgr42
>i mean, i see what you're talkin about, but for the purposes of gameplay the fierce deity's mask is basically just the biggoron sword
Not even remotely true. The fierce deity mask was more of a just for fun insta win button.
i really liked the oracle games in terms of items, especially the magnet gloves
The oracle games are peak 2D zelda.
I stand by the belief that the Oracle games haven't been topped. Roc's Feather/Cape, Magnet Gloves, the different seed shooters, etc. gave the game a ton of variety in how you approached combat or traversing terrain. Truly one of the games of all time
yep, but since its only usable on boss battles it kinda goes from "best item" to "boss easy mode"
actual best item:
There's a glitch that allows you to use oni link outside boss rooms, very easy to perform too iirc.
not very useful cuz no items.
But fun, which is the only reason you’d do it.
Is this the best 100% reward in a game?
Most games give you shit for 100%ing the game like a gold character skin or just say thanks.
This and the Chronoscepter from Turok Dinosaur Hunter were both great.
As far as I remember getting all the masks =/= 100%. There are more side quests and other stuff that reward you with things other than masks
Here 100% refers to getting all the masks, not some pedantic speedrunning rule.
Hes technically correct, heart pieces are also a pretty large part of the game. Idk anyone who would get all the mask and not get the heart pieces but it is possible.
Man, I'm aware there are other things in the game than masks. When that guy was talking about everything (100%) he meant all the masks, that's all.

Yes.
Nintendo cannot even properly recreate the atmosphere, gameplay, storytelling, themes or visual appeal of the N64 Zelda games.
No other games play like this so I have to really force myself to enjoy other things. Maybe I don't even like video games. Just those two games
I just play non zelda games that are similar. Like metroid prime or thief.
I think I might be too racist for those games, sorry.

Oh God, Fromsoft is repeating Zelda's history by having their PS3 games be the best ones.
Video games just seem to have really lost steam. I thought 7th gen was bad and was all cynical. But this is beyond cynical. It's just embarrassing and pathetic.
Wow, why do you have to cuss
Then why don't you make a thread about those games instead of whinging in this one
Hey can someone port metroid prime to n64
This is probably pasta, but still sad to think someone sat down and actually wrote this. Ironic shitposting is still shitposting.
I literally just wrote it. Sorry to hear it upset you.
I didn't even read it, bummer to know you actually sat and wrote all that dude.
you read it and you were so asspained by it that you have to pretend you didnt. very sad.
You ok? You sound very uptight, did your gf run off with a deku?
t. very mad guy
t. very gay guy
funny words coming from the guy who plays a game about a homosexual child who's a stalker and a furry
>let me tell all of /vr/ about my gay fanfics
>fanfic
it'a not a fanfic, it's your favorite game.
why do you seethe for days on end about a game you supposedly don't like/care about?
because it's funny to watch you get upset when confronted with the reality that gayjora's fart is a bad game with a terrible story.
>gayjora's fart
damn... you convinced me man, I will stop liking this game now.
you can still be saved.
good thing there's anon and his very smart posts to wake me up
you're welcome.
Why do you have gay fanfics about this game?
why do you play a gay game?
why do you keep posting on a thread about a game you project as "gay" for days on end?
why do you keep playing a gay game (made for homosexuals)?
holy shit there's a majora comic? or is it doujin?
There are official mangas for all of the retro 3D games as far as I know. The Twilight Princess one only recently ended, too. There's even a Four Swords Adventures one.
Only Smash for Wii U/3DS I think.
That nasty fleshy sound when hitting an enemy with the sword or bow was probably what made using them so satisfying in oot and mm
>re-texture adult link and his biggoron sword
Literally genius.
Fierce Deity is way bigger than adult Link though
I mean you can resize models im almost certain its the same mesh
From what I can tell, yeah they used the OOT Adult Link model as base then made changes to it. The hair looks the same to me, same as the pose, etc.
But I dunno, someone should make a proper comparison because Kid Link's model is different from OOT Kid Link, not exactly the same model, though again, they used the original as a base obviously.
>someone should make a proper comparison
I agree.
There's a lot of small differences between oot and mm link beyond the superior textures, face and polycount, which be cool to actually see compared in detail. Especially any animation differences, any skeleton differences and so on.
Yeah but thats kid link. I say diety is literally just a texture swap because I remember old project 64 mods using that rice video plugin that made deity adult link. Looked 1:1 to me. If anything its definitely the same animations.
Look up Low Poly on Youtube. They have a video comparing all the 3D Link models.
Link is vegan.
Did FD appear in anything else other than Hyrule Warriors?
We can't say for sure because there's some shit Dark Link can't copy. Like the hammer lmao get rekt you stupid shadow
Majora Mask was the peak of 3D Zelda games
Yeah. I think it was the last great game in the series in general.
This
That goes to the Oracle games, especially Ages.
True
Majora Mask was the peak of 3D Zelda minigames
i mean it's a great game but the minigames suck ass besides like, the beaver race, and having to do that four times to get everything is annoying
>the beaver race, and having to do that four times to get everything is annoying
try the 3ds version
Zora swimming was one of the best things in Majora for me.
I never tried MM3D, but I remember people complaining about the controls for Zora swimming. What did they change?
You can't swim fast/dolphin jump without using the magic barrier, and they dont put any new magic jars around to compensate for it.
They also changed all 4 of the bosses, now requiring the proper transformation mask to beat each one.
but they also added fishing!! dont tell me you forgot all the complaints of no fishing in the original?
Never heard of people complaining about no fishing on MM, though if you told me there was a fishing minigame in MM I would believe it, my memory is hazy on all the mini games it has, but legit never read anyone complaining about lack of it.
It makes sense though, fishing was super popular in OOT.
it was a bad joke
I mean adding fishing is a plus but its pretty trivial
