I did. It's got weird pacing issues, though I did like the party members.
They fricked up with the sequels by not pushing them as hard marketing wise. I did pick up the now confusingly named Bravely Second because I was looking out for it, but I never realised Bravely Default II was even out. Though for what it's worth, the game director said reception for II was good enough that the series will continue, but will be another 3-4 years.

I don't mean a literal FF9-2, but a game that takes place in the same universe as 9 for example, but maybe 3000 years in the future or the past.
You can tell a completely new story with fully new characters but still have nods to old ones, you can revisit old locations now in ruins, or perhaps cities that have completely changed looks through the years.
Like Tales of Bersaria and Tales of Zestria, or Nier and Nier: Automata.
Make a new Final Fantasy that isn't shit.

They can't. It'd take several GREAT games in a row to get the sort of reputation FF used to have back. But now they have more than a decade of FF not being good or relevant, so even back-to-back classics will have that hanging over them. Add to that the sheer amount of spinoffs and cash-ins these days, and it's over. FF doesn't mean grand, polished prestige RPG anymore, it means chocobos/moogles/tonberry/cactuar/Malboro and maybe Cloud will be referenced.

9 is the highest rated FF on metacritic. I can't imagine how panned a 15 second battle intro would be these days, you have to turn off the panning camera to get it like half that and its still longer than FF7/8. This isn't adding in the battle animation speeds are slow

back in the day, new consoles had new games, and we didn't have to go 3 years playing last gen games with slightly faster loading times because that was the only thing available
Because it released right before X which was on a new console, looked much better and ended up being way more popular as a result of it actually being good. 9 is still the best in terms of story, but X is a closer contender and had was positioned to cannibalize any success 9 could earn.

the problem with SE is they release a few things that are good that keep them funding these shitshows. TO Reborn was genuinely one of the few remakes I thought hit the mark. It's different enough from the SNES and PSP to make it different and worth owning.

-frick beautiful realistic model character (make characters unique and interesting. Let them have flaws as frick give them depth and soul)
-the story can be mature. Show slums, class differences, people who try to get to the top and people who fall down from top and people who just get by. Show elements tyranny and rebellion. Dont make it Black and White.
-I prefer tactical gameplay with depth over actiongameplay (with or without depth) in RPGS

Final fantasy has never been good. It’s just nostalgic due to the atmosphere and music; both of which are top tier. Overall? Mediocre at best
Going back to making proper JRPGs would be a good start. Their insistence on chasing weird trends is what killed the series for me.
I was excited for 16, and I was excited for 7R as well. They both suck.
