I started a new island a few weeks ago. It's been comfy. Hit it huge on turnips this past week, had a s meteor shower tonight. Also working on terraforming my island.
Gonna start evicting shitters to get my cute villagers in. Haven't even touched the DLC yet.

No, games must be played for 3 years straight after release or else it's deemed a failure.

how do you manage to keep up for so long? i dropped it at post-release since the game felt like a huge letdown coming from the gamecube and 3ds title. like what

I know my opinion will be disregarded, but it's disgusting just how much content New Leaf has in comparison to New Horizons. New Leaf might've lacked much of the soul that the N64/GC release had, but it was at the very least brimming with content and still had consequences for not playing.

said, its just one huge disappointment.

It would honestly be really fun if they made you a broke-ass with a roommate in the next game. I still liked New Leaf a lot, but I didn't initially get interested in these games because I want to be the king of town or whatever.

That is the entire appeal of the GC game is you just being another person moving into town while everybody else was already there living their life. The world didnt revolve around your arrival.

I mean it helps that game had actual varied personalities and dialogue so you could form relationships (or hatred) towards each animal.

I know, I started with the first game. I was a little disappointed with the direction the series took starting with New Leaf but never actually played City Folk, so I guess I'm partially to blame. Loved the first game and Wild World, though.

              Anonymous

City Folk got shit on because it came out at the lowest point of nintendo catering to casuals with the Wii success and it just being Wild World HD but it was still fun

Main street in New Leaf is just a better City from City Folk though

            >The world didnt revolve around your arrival.
The thing is the original AC was also made with the expectation that 4 players sharing a town was the norm, which just wasn't the case for the majority of actual players. So the series gradually evolved into making YOU the main focus (like giving you the role of mayor) because if you're going to be playing by yourself for the majority of the time you might as well get specialized story elements that make you feel unique (and then your family/friends who move in later can be the useless secondaries).

How about a new free rotating camera. You can now rotate the camera around outside giving you new angles to decorate yards and tunnels with. Yes you can actually make tunnels and caves now. You even have a hot spring generate in every mountain. Also you can swim in lakes and walk through gentle streams.

Animal Crossing is built on daily grinding/tasks, a trend that's bigger than ever before right now with Gacha and GaaS games. Obviously I'm not saying it should become a gacha game but there are things you can learn from what's around you to draw people in. [Prefacing this by saying I didn't play much New Horizons so I might be redundant] Replace holidays with weekly events and try to have a new event every week, reintroduce Play Coins you can unlock and use to unlock Nintendo themed items that cycles weekly, add weekly challenges that you can do on top of townkeeping, get rid of terraforming having too much power burns people out more quickly, have unlockable unique dialog you can have with villagers to flesh them out beyond appearance and make them actual characters. You can probably find more things that gacha/GaaS games do make people keep coming back to add but that's where'd I start.

          >full of minigames
It had like an ezmode tetris attack and a shit civ type game, both of which shilled amiibos out the ass. The rest were like hide and seek and shit, stuff that's in NH just as random villager events.
Don't act like NL was some pinnacle when it is slightly about NH for no other reason than the villager dialogue being better.

It just wasn't anywhere close to being as good as New Leaf is. :

I dropped NH maybe a few weeks or maybe months after release. Was a downgrade in every way besides visuals. Even made terraforming agonizing by being so slow.

And yet I still play NL all the time, and still find new stuff and unlocks in my town that I've had since launch! 😀

If you are more interested in extensive home/town building, New Horizons.
If you're more interested in RPing as living in a town full of animals with personality and more than two things to say, New Leaf.

It's New Leaf, but there isn't a single truly bad game in the whole series. Even though I'd easily consider New Horizons the weakest one, I think it's still worth playing if you buy it used and know at least one other person that likes playing it.

no one plays it because its was worse than the previous games in every way.
also giving the player the ability to terraform was too much, and ruined the whole appeal of the series. went from being being a villager in a village to the ruler of an island.
