For DMing 5e, the trick is just to make bullshit up as you go. So long as you don't railroad players, you can get away with so much.
The only real challenge is building combat encounters, but that's an art you can only get through experience.

Got the coof, went unconscious for 2 weeks and when I woke up I got a hemorrhoid from doing physical therapy with a shit tube up my ass. Went home, can’t wipe my ass because it’s too painful. Have to use the shower but even that isn’t a good job. Had to change underwear every time I shit. Felt too self conscious to go out to games like that. Still self conscious about smelling like shit to this day even though hemorrhoid is gone.

Are you mentally challenged? I'm amazed at how many people can't clean their asses properly.

First off, you don't wipe, you press down the toilet paper to clean yourself, starting with very little pressure (the more shit there the less pressure, because you don't want to smear shit all over your ass) then up the pressure more and more as you go through the next pieces of paper until its almost clean, then you soak the next pieces with a bit of water and clean a bit, finish with a dry piece to dry your ass. Done. Do it all gently without scraping. It's very quick, easy, efficient and won't hurt, plus you are assured to be completely clean.

Nah, anon is right, wiping does nothing but smear shit all around your ass and ass pubes. You want to catch the shit with the TP, so you get the majority of it with the dry TP and then you do the last bits with wet TP so you don't end up with shit on your folds.

If we get one group together a month it's a miracle, and then there's the 'do we even wanna play or do we wanna drink beer and hang out?' in the equation and that wins a lot more than it should.

Of course, there are long stretches of time where the campaign goes on a hiatus, or ends and takes a while for a new one to restart, that kind of thing, but that's just life as an adult, sometimes things get in the way.
But eventually, one of the two groups always gets back into it.

Nothing. It's a conscious choice. Covid restrictions liberated me from my then-current group and during the quiet few months of quarantine I realised I absolutely loath playing TTRPGs and never had fun with them, but always tried anyway for nearly two decades.
I switched to just playing board games and it greatly improved my mood and amount of fun I get from my hobby, plus I don't have to deal with most of the people from my former group, too. The fact the nearby library has a gaming room and there is always someone to play there whatever only adds to the resolve of never returning to TTRPG.

So how does someone actually go about finding a group, assuming you've already exhausted your friends already? Has anyone done this and do you have any advice? Do you just turn up to the FLGS and pin your contacts to the board? Should you attend other people's games (suffering through 5e) and then selectively invite the good people from there?

      Anonymous

LGS is a valid option, provided you got some.
Otherwise, knock at some discord, reddit or facebook groups, I guess. Best if you don't mind online play, but with the two latter you might find players from your group.

No one to play with. I occasionally play games with the only 3 people I consider friends but one is bi-poler and not good in an RP scenario. Another is turbo autistic and has a martians brain with the way his mind works and the logic he uses, and a third is very inflexable and obtuse. I also live in the middle of no where (The North-East of England) where nothing happens, there is nothing to do and no where to go to talk to and meet people who share my interest. I browse and post on tg because its the closest I can get to others who share my interests but dont have my friends hang ups. Sucks man.

Have you considered moving? Alternatively, finding an online group?

        Anonymous

For online I dont know where to look. All the public Discord groups for RPs are the most normie shit and I know I wouldent be allowed to be myself. I'd probably end up regretting it but I'd want to seek out places where tg posters congragate and try joining a game or two there.
As for moving, cant. I'm cursed with self awareness and from that I know I am medium functioning autistic. Smart enough to not be moronic but not smart enough to be able to fit in with proper high stress jobs. Cant drive either and live with my middle aged mother. Cant drive either. Will probably go back and try and ace the test for no other reason then to open up oppertunities.

Just find the public groups or whatever for the games you want to play, don't worry about finding "the one game." You'll go through at least half a dozen, but keep tabs on the ones that don't flake and are cool dudes. You'll either get lucky and find that one group or build a group that will last years out of the bones of multiple failed attempts. The networking part is important though, the people who say it's impossible after so many games are the ones who don't keep up with the good people.

I'm not 100% nogames but apparently people just doesn't enjoy these hobbies like I do. They all have work and responsibilities yet they still talk about videogames, football and whatever. "I have no time" seems to be "I have no time for tabletop" and "I'm poor" seems to be "I'm not buying figures and paints".

      Anonymous

      >They all have work and responsibilities yet they still talk about videogames
It's about time commitment. Video games can be played for 30 minutes as a quick break. Most TTRPGs take 2-3 hours minimum.
Long, low-priority time commitments become increasingly difficult to meet when you're busy. Try making a D&D game from 2-6 when you have a work meeting pop up at 4.

      >"I'm poor" seems to be "I'm not buying figures and paints".
"I'm poor." is a catch all for
      >my wife said no
      >I'm cheap
      >I don't want to play and this will end the conversation
      >I actually am poor and if you had pieces I can use I will play
I'm financially in a better place than most of my friends (dual income, no kids) so the last line item I try to help with. I have 3 kill teams I legitimately bought, built, and painted so a friend could participate and not feel like he was stealing someone's turn using their guys. Made me happy to have them involved, made them happy to not have to worry about the money and time commitment.

The thing is I'm also poor and I can't afford that. And I know they can afford to slowly build a band because they're in similar or better situations.

I have a Saturday game, but it gets regularly cancelled because
    >GM will cancel a session if we are missing more than 2 players, even if the pace has been going slowly or the group could get some stuff done without everyone there, he still doesn't want players to miss out
    >Player A is player B's girlfriend, and is just playing to spend time with B. If player B isn't showing up then player A is a guaranteed no-show.
    >Player C is a senior IT technician for an American hospital, so he is constantly on-call and has to respond to service tickets that the hospital staff could solve themselves if they were sentient
    >Player D recently became a father, god bless him even though I personally think he's a dope
    >My selfish ass is too mentally exhausted from work to work on my own campaign, so we don't have a backup game to fall back to

Recently broke my nogames streak, but for a couple of years before that it was because
    1) the group I was DMing for (college acquaintances, not close friends) exploded over political arguments when Trump got covid, four of the six players decided they didn't want to be friends with each other anymore and couldn't even tolerate roleplaying over discord with each other, so two left. Added one new player for what would have been the final session but the wind had been taken out of my sails and it was also just getting too hard to organize enough people showing up at once.
    2) several of my friends lost passion for 5e
    3) the last couple who still played apparently don't think I'd be a good fit for the group they played with nonstop during my nogames period (they're discord communists and possibly furries too so no big loss tbh)

Had session 0 with some flaky shitbuckets a few years back. That game went nowhere.
Now I've got an edh group that does some board games and apparently has run DnD in the past. I'm going to try and gauge interest this weekend, see if I can get two or three that want to do an rpg. I don't really want to play DnD. I've never played it so it's not like I know that I hate it, it's just that it feels so oversaturated in the culture that everyone is going to come in with preconceived notions with which I really don't want to compete. I was thinking about doing something like Crash Pandas, just a quick fun one off to see how we work as an RPG group, and then see what people want to to play after that.

Inversely, when I'm a GM, I find myself getting frustrated with my players and my own inability to properly translate the ideas I have in my head to a roleplaying environment. I simply wasn't having fun no matter what I tried.
