People were complaining about fishing being too important because the reaver shark was so strong
They could have added a stronger pickaxe obtainable earlier, but then people would complain that the new pickaxe obseletes everything else up to Molten or whatever
Nerfing it just makes one group mad, adding a sidegrade makes another mad, and leaving it as-is keeps a different group mad
There's no winning, only what the devs feel is right
Is there at least a mod to restore its pickaxe power to pre-nerf levels?

Nobody likes fishing because the implementation is dogshit. It could be fun, but it isn't
some people might not like the new content, but I think it's great. Love all the new stuff they added. The QOL features, the new weapons, new mounts, new bosses. It really does make a new playthrough worthwhile.
And I'm sorry to say guys, but I agree with some of their nerfs. If something is OP, it should be nerfed. Since it's a singleplayer, you can go right ahead and unnerf it with tmodloader. People already removed torch luck and npc happiness, which is why they embraced modding. So everyone wins. This isn't like an Xbox or Nintendo game where the devs shriek and scream and shart their diapers over someone modding their game. So there shouldn't be an issue.

Reaver shark nerf was kind of undeserved, you can already get hellstone easily by fighting EoW or BoC because the segments/eyes drop the unique material needed to craft a pickaxe that can mine hellstone, and you can get the ore from EoC.

3 things i can think of whenever i see posts like "why are they adding useless updates" or "why aren't they updating the game more", and one of those reasons is that the poster doesn't play the fricking game
Because at this point it's just bloating the game with more stuff and messing with random elements of the game. And everytime they're working on the next update I don't want to play the game because I'll just start over on the next patch because I'm autistic
the problem is that terraria was complete with 1.3
"more content" would have to either be through mods so that the devs dont need to respect various boundaries or very, very carefully crafted to actually fit.
the devs have not carefully crafted the new content, they are just throwing in whatever they feel like and nerfing whatever just because they feel like it.
The game is already bloated with content. Just leave it the frick alone.

I be honest I kinda confused by that sentiment, because when I hear bloat it usually just sounds like the game pans out too long forcing you to grind, when Terraria the main progression of content hasn't changed since 1.3, so is it a issue with just adding side stuff that doesn't change anything or mainly that it doesn't need to be updated anymore because it "done".

There are thousands of people making all kinds of contraptions and builds within the game, others experimenting with weapons, and some going in blind and using whatever weapon looks cooler. Would you like if there was just 1 optimal set in the game for every class after every boss and just delete all the other items? Torch luck was the distraction for the devs forcing their real autism on you: NPC happiness and building your base the way they tell you to.
The game was completed with 1.3. Everything else is just padding for time since they have zero ideas for Terraria 2 and won't just tell the fanbase to frick off before proceeding to never produce games ever again.

There are only so many systems one can have before they cannibalize eachother and become detrimental to the experience. That's also why progression stops. You've already claimed the land, underground, the sea and the sky. There's nowhere left to go.
There is also only side content that can be made, but that does nothing for the actual game and indeed may slow down progression of the actual game.

If you place 101 torches underground you summon an endurance round challenge where you dodge 101 projectiles for a couple minutes and it gives you a buff that turns your torches into specific biome you're in...but no.

I just want them to actually deliver something meaningful this time, I hope they do. I like and appreciate the fact that they still do updates. Hardmode definitely needs a slight restructure to its progression. Post plantera becoming a boss rush so quickly has always been a bit asinine to me. It's like a nice progression to ZOOOOOOOOM.

If you click the UI icon beneath whatever you're trying to craft it will bring up all your options in a window and you can just click what you want. It took me about 300 hours to find this out

Terraria already was called a Minecraft knockoff. The more likely answer is that they're trying to make a sequel to a game that doesn't feel barebones compared to the original. Of course the original didn't start off with all that content but if they don't try to match it with Terraria 2 it'll be Civ V all over again
Terraria already feels barebones. The game has very few accessories that change the way you play the game; most are just stat increases or outright useless. Some accessories are basically mandatory, like wings or Hermes' Boots. All armor sets and weapons basically do the same thing with minor variation, which is, provide defense or deal damage. A magic weapon isn't any more effective or worth using than a ranged weapon. The only difference is in the resource that's being used. The game could benefit from an actual class system or a freeform level tree. It could also benefit from multiple damage types, more itemization, ect.
The whole idea of classes in terraria is pretty bizarre when its clearly designed for a single playstyle. The attempt to "balance" classes when there aren't classes in the first place feels like the dev got gaslight by the fanbase
