NTA, but not on my PC. The only issue with MP1 is the audio one with voiceover during comic panels not showing for some reason, so you need to fix it. But other than that, runs smooth as it did on my PC 17 years ago.

There's remnants of that plan in the game, I don't remember the specifics but in New York if you do a weird combination of things then backtrack to Paul's apartment JC has hidden dialogue where he says UNATCO isn't perfect but it's better than the alternative and that he'll keep working for them, but it leads nowhere

hell you can have a fully accurate pistol in gmdx with the laser sight literally at liberty island, the mod definitely does shoehorn a tactical fps type of gameplay though which is often at ends with the level design.
The robots and MJ-12 mechs in the game's third act seem like they were put there to reward run and gun players who pack explosives. They are a pain in the wiener for stealth players.
DE run and gun is actually really fun if you know what you're doing. Especially late game when you can use the leg mod to obliterate everyone in a room before they can react.

it works on the original too, on weaker enemies at least. and lethal darts do a lot more damage
The initial dart hit deals plain physical damage then applying toxin damage to the torso which does the non-lethal takedown. So if the enemy instantly falls after getting hit with the toxic dart, it means the physical damage killed them
Anyone else here played with the Randomizer mod? It actually suits this game very well, because there's no way you can softlock yourself in this game, a testament to its good design (and the mod's well made too).
i think they designed the levels a little *too* well because there are certain parts of a quest you do on your first playthrough to acquire context for the story, that you never get to see on your second playthrough because stuff like one of the keypads in Hong Kong uses the same password as the one in your previous save, so you can just put it in, unlock the door and later on Tracer Tong starts talking about things JC may not understand because you can choose to not meet him in the first place, and still continue with the level.
in fact, you can complete the entire Hong Kong level as far as i know, without glitches, without getting JC the treatment to prevent his killswitch from finishing the job.

The AI stuff is the only part of your post that bothers me. MGS released in 98 and the guards in that game would have to search for you, react to dead bodies, and see footprints in the snow. I'm not sure of the company size of both studios at the time, so maybe it's just a difference in budget.

I think you should at least try un-modded first and then try modded, if only because that'll give you 2x(-ish) the enjoyment. Did this recently with Morrowind, and I'm going strong on modded, second playthrough because holy hell is there more content now. But maybe not a whole playthrough for Deus Ex, rather just enough to appreciate the improvements?
I just played through Deus Ex Revision. I know it's not the "authentic experience" but setting up GMDX was a nightmare.

Enemies do acknowledge corpses and actually have different behaviors for if they find them/you with an actual corpse or just an unconscious body.

I remember using it for the first time as a kid and thinking "this is obviously a weapon for stealth" and I had the guy running away from me, screaming at the top of his lungs, alerting everyone and everything before collapsing in a pile. what do you need to mod here anyway? I downloaded the transcended mod, it's basically vanilla with a few tweaks like non-lethal takedowns of critters. I don't understand why you would need to heavily mod the graphics, the game's artstyle is timeless

I remember when I first played the game and had similar issues, it wasn't until later on in the game that it truly clicked with me.
You might have an issue with your build, remember you can upgrade your skills at any time during the game. I suggest snubbing in for low-tech as it lets your baton do silent knock-outs.
