Yes its actually pretty good on the higher difficulties. The writing is about as good as you can expect from a videogame, Joel and Ellie are genuinely likable characters in the first one. The combat gets quite a bit more interesting when you start fighting humans, the infected are just kind of boring to go up against in comparison.

1 starts 10/10 good. It falls to 8.5/10 inmediately after timeskip. Second one is 5/10 at best.
Yeah, it's not perfect, but I think it's a really solid experience with a decent balance of game and story.
I'd nitpick a bit about the pacing of some of the environmental puzzles, but it's much stronger than the second game in that regard which pads out everything it can.
Just played it for the first time recently. Its definitely worth playing but not because its great or anything. Its filled with all the usual movie game annoyances(movement speed is forced to a crawl so the characters can slowly walk down a hallway and talk, etc.) The gameplay is great when it clicks but its filled with little inconsistencies and annoyances. The enemy ai is dogshit and constantly flipflops from being able to see through walls to not noticing you when you walk right up and shoot them in the face. The story starts and ends great but meanders alot in between. Joel and ellie are passable, most other characters are generic. Play on hard, survivor is a good "hard" mode, grounded is ok but resources are so limited that you have to go full stealth for most encounters which is less fun imo.
I played the ps4 version on a ps5 btw. Not sure how much that improves performance but the game performed rock solid the whole time

I'd say no, but it doesn't mean it doesn't have its strengths.
The gameplay is quite good for third person. It really shines with the animations, which are really some of the best there are, and the game's willingness to kill you. Even though there are ways to cheese through the game and take advantage of the AI, it never feels like that with how the characters move and interact. I'd imagine TLoU2 only improves on this.
The actual gameplay segments are unfortunately rather limited, which brings it down considerably. The story isn't great and has some particularly bad plot holes and oversights in my opinion, but some people like Joel and Ellie even though I just found the latter very annoying and the former nothing special. The show does the story much better, which makes sense, but the weaknesses show up there too. If you're playing it for the story, just watch the show instead or play Spec Ops: The Line which is rather shit and forced but at it's at least more cohesive and interesting.
You'll only be wanting to play it for the multiplayer, which works in the PS4 version or possibly RPCS3.

Compared to all of the movie games on the market now, I would still say that TLOU1 is the best movie game. The gameplay gets pretty stale after about two hours like most movie games, but the characters are pretty good. If you decide to watch the show instead, just know that there were a lot of changes made to characters and story beats

The doctor himself and all of the Fireflies earnestly thought it could be cured by what they were doing.
Any undermining of these facts and the actual story is fueled by game notes that both do not reflect the present beliefs or capabilities of the Fireflies to cure the infection and were purposely cut from Neil's TV adaptation. The undermining is also fueled by people believing an impossible (variant of a real) infection being treated in a seemingly impossible way is an in-universe contradiction and not just plot contrivance (that the TV adaption tries to mend) from a non scientist writer with a limited time to finish the story.
All of the character work and thematic edge of the story is that Joel chose his daughter over saving the world.
He's not a mustache twirling villain but Abby, or anybody who knows what the characters all know, have no reason to see him as anything but that.

And if their intention wasn’t to make it obvious that the cure wouldn’t work why leave evidence out? Even if Joel didn’t know that, he still did right thing and besides that the whole thing with Ellie actually believing Joel is bullshit. For her to actually believe him she would have to go through zero character development and be the same naive girl we picked up in Boston. Everything after the first game including the dlc is just Neil rewriting and retconning characters and elements from the story because he’s bitter that he couldn’t make the first game a mega pozzed revenge story, which is what he did in the second game when Bruce wasn’t there to be his tard wrangler
In the adaptation of the first game, the show that just aired, the cordyceps bound itself with Ellie at birth (her mom was bit while the umbilical was still attached) and was inert of all properties except for communicating to other strains of cordyceps that enter her body that she's already infected, stopping them from reinfecting her.
The Fireflies hoped to extract that from Ellie, multiply it in a lab and pass this inert messenger cordyceps to other people.

Why wasn't there a conversation if the game was really trying hard to push the idea that the cycle of revenge is bad that everyone talks about? I think they could have really pushed that idea if they had some sort of situation where both of them actually had to talk to one another.
I think if Abby just shot Joel to make it quick, it would have made her easier to sympathise with. She got her revenge with a single decision she can’t take back.
Instead, like this says, she revels in it and kills him cruelly, brutally and sadistically. Dragging it out not caring that two of his loved ones are in the room. Abby comes across as a psychopath and no amount of flashbacks of playing with a dog can change that.

My man, the whole world outside of the USA knows that Israel is the bigger reason for the conflict, you can't fucking downplay this with an "everyone is equally bad, it can't be helped" stance

People pissed and cancel preorders, while Sony sends DMCAs to every person mentioning it. I’ve never seen Rambo 2, but in the first movie Rambo doesn’t go on a killing spree slaughtering anyone who gets in his way. He kills one person by accident and he spares the rest is because Trautman is there to stop him. Where as Ellie murders dozens of people, stops hunting Abby, starts a comfortable life with Dina and her son, and then gave it all up to kill Abby and then all of a sudden has a change of heart and decides not to. And the game ends with her going back to an empty house all alone. Whereas Abby who is an actual psycho gets to start a new life with Lev

The difference there is Rambo doesn’t actually have a chance he was molded into a killer by the U.S. and Trautman all he knows is war. Not to mention the original story of Rambo is about a Vietnam vet struggling with reintegrating into civilian life as well as suffering with PTSD it’s not a revenge story. Where Ellie after getting everything and actually getting that normal life just gives up everything for no reason and goes to kill Abby and again gives it up for what reason? Training to be a soldier and actually living as one are two different things and Ellie’s PTSD is from what she experienced and is only present at that moment Rambo’s is both from what he saw and did plus he didn’t ask for what happened to him and while Ellie didn’t either she went right back into it purely out of revenge. Where Rambo went back in order to save POWs there is barely any similarity between these characters outside of revenge
