The fact that they randomly chose purple to be the poison color (when poisons don't have any dominant color in real life) and that the only ghost types in gen 1 shared type with poison, for ever cemented the fact that ghost types must be variants of purple color too. And it makes no sense because in most cultures ghosts tend to be represented with the color white.
They could’ve maybe split poison into two types. “Real” poison types like snakes etc that use toxins/poison/venom and others into a “chemical” type that cause corrosive burns or chemical exposure to things such as ammonia, sulfuric acid etc.
Poison types could keep the purple color scheme while chemical types can be an assortment of colors. Every acid I’ve ever worked with is clear/looks like water though. however I’ve handled many corrosive solids in many colors from shiny purple to yellow to white.
Something like Salazzle and the poison lemur thing from SV ( I have not played Gen 8 or 9) could fit the chemical type while things like arbok, drapion, ariados etc could be poison. Many animals who poison in real life do not use chemicals as toxins, but rather types of proteins that interfere with physiological processes in your body. Tetanus is an example of a toxic protein causing your body to react in a negative way. So the two types could be distinguished enough I think.
Ghosts are purple because 1- it's a representation of shadows without being pure black, 2 - souls in japan are represented by blue-purple flames called Hitodama. The poison type share didn't have anything to do with it.
Since when? i've never heard of this.
think of generic "toxic waste", like you'd see in captain planet or TMMT. That radiation green colour is where a lot of that comes from culturally in the west. I don't know the purple connotations for japan but I'm sure there's something there.

You're overcomplicating it man. Pokemon is for and has to be understandable to 6 year olds. Poison is something that gets in/on you and makes you feel sick. Whether that's laundry detergent, snake venom, sulfuric acid, mold, or wolfsbane - it's all the same.
I’m just having fun man and speculating. I don’t expect pokemon to do anything like this. I was just pondering what if they were willing to distinguish mons like this more? We’d probably get some interesting stuff
I wish these were sorted in order of incidence, not alphabetically. It'd make it much easier to pick out interesting trends.
Lot of Dark types in Unova is something I guess.
That's also partly why there's such a big spike in Psychic types in Hoenn. All the megas and the deoxys forms are being counted
Remember that a lot of the legendary/mystical bloat is made up of psychic types. There's also a lot of psychic types with different forms, which this chart seems to be counting
Why does Kanto have 186 Pokémon and Kalos have 86? What's the logic behind these numbers??
Water is the most FRICKABLE
Kanto has a ton of poison types

>randomly
No they didn't, stupid fricking homosexual. In the east poison is purple. In the west, it's green.
False
Since when? i've never heard of this.
>east
Basically every "character cooks badly and make poison food" tends to be purple, why? Idk, cultural thing.
>west
Most western vidya likes to go with green for poison, why? Idk, cultural thing.
Your parents were still kids when it was decided Zoomie
>All-Stars
Your input goes straight into the gutter
Because purple (紫 shi) and death (死 shi) are pronounced the same. Same rea
son the number 4 (四 shi) is considered ominous.
Also one of the most poisonous plants in Japan, aconite (トリカブト torikabuto), has purple flowers.
Actual, real poison is usually white

We need another charizard
Yeah, a lack of good mons in unova
lots of water due to kanto and hoenn and not much ice?
"Kanto"
"184 total Pokemon"
WTF
There is no dark type pokemon in gen 1 dex
Houndour and Houndoom are Kanto pokemon.
yeah what the frick is this
is it counting megas and/or regional forms or something? because that's bullshit
Probably counting Regional variants and Megas as well.

The water is the most abundant thing on the planet and has the most forms of life in it?
You need to go out and touch grass (pokemon).
Sinnohs is the most balanced
Surprised there's so many psychic types, to be honest. Thematically it always felt like a rare type to me, but they're pretty common.
Remember that a lot of the legendary/mystical bloat is made up of psychic types. There's also a lot of psychic types with different forms, which this chart seems to be counting

It's easy to design distinct fish.
