    Primaris are next

GW will apologize and go back to the old days. No narrative progression, grogs win, Black library is shunted, mk.7 marines are updated, primarchs are gone.

    We are back grog bros

Either they should have 1: Confirmed they were dead. 2: Always have them be around.

The old "They MIGHT come back" bullshit was dumb and tedious and I hate it. If I wanted a setting that was nothing but "Interesting stuff might happen someday" I would go back to /jp/.

                >1: Confirmed they were dead.
Eh, with the Loyalist Primarchs it feels like the intention was that they were definitely dead and the stories of them returning were variations on the king asleep in mountain myth. It's absolutely the kind of superstitious myth you would see running around in the collapsing semi-medieval Imperium of 40k.
Also I imagine Gorillaman was supposed to be dead in his stasis field instead of preserved moments before death but that's an easy retcon to make.

Completely different story with the Traitor Primarchs, the Chaos God aligned Daemon Primarchs had Epic Models and as soon as GW saw there was a market for giant plastic models with the Baneblade we started getting Daemon Primarchs designed and produced.

I think you can read it like that, but I think it's undermined by the fact a lot of them just kind of fricked off rather than actually died.

                >Completely different story with the Traitor Primarchs, the Chaos God aligned Daemon Primarchs had Epic Models and as soon as GW saw there was a market for giant plastic models with the Baneblade we started getting Daemon Primarchs designed and produced.
I can actually see some appeal to only Traitor Primarchs still being around.

Nah I forget exactly when they did it but they retconed Dorn from being inarguably dead to just missing at least 10 if not 15 years before they started making primarchs for 40k, in retrospect I think bringing back primarchs was something they wanted to have as a panic button

LotR isn't stagnant in the same sense as WFB/W40K. All the settings have a timeline lasting several thousand years but LotR have all its history culminating a single meta-event resolving all issues. It's a perfectly self-contained story with a start and an ending like the fairy tales Tolkien loved so much. Up to the publication of The End Times GW had no intention to give either of its settings such a resolution

      >A stagnant setting is a shit setting.
The mistake GW made with 40k was writing almost everything to be happening in the last year of M41. I know the '5 minutes to midnight' thing was integral to the setting, but they barely bothered to explore anything that happened more than 100 years prior to that date. They wrote themselves into a position where more and more climactic events involving every single founding chapter contributing every company was involved and people were getting tired of it. 40k should have taken in the last thousand years and given themselves much more to work with, with spinoffs for the Age of Apostasy etc.

what's bad about it? Runequest and Pathfinder have metaplots too, like PF 2e assumes all published campaigns were completed with good endings and I've never seen the vitriolic hatred for either that 40k's metaplot gets from Primaris haters.

Beasts of Chaos (Beastmen) are being squatted from AoS, and relegated to ToW only. The writing was on the wall for that one since they have only had 1 (one) new mini, the new beastlord, in all of AoS.
Bonesplitterz (savage orcs) same as above but also note they got ZERO new minis through all of AoS.
The various chaos cults from the 1st edition of Warcry are being squatted from AoS and restricted to Warcry only. The new Darkoath units are their replacement as scrub mortal units for Slaves to Darkness. All the other Warcry warbands for other factions are still around.
Skaven are having a bunch of their range put on last chance to buy which is not at all surprising because they're having a range update in the coming edition.
Stormcast had a BUNCH of shit cut. Much of it was sensible, like old 1st edition fatcast units that are just gonna get updated to the new armor style that came with 3rd. But basically their entire 2nd edition (Sacrosanct Chamber) release ALSO got largely blammed which is the really surprising part. Either they are revamping much more of the Stormcast range than was first assumed, or all the people who jumped on in 2nd are fricked.

TL;DR they squatted a bunch of shit for the upcoming 4th edition. Some justified, some less so.

Eternally cycle settings and variations on nothing like Coca-Cola cans to keep selling different flavors of nostalgia. AoS got 10+ years, they've already planted seeds to harvest later for a release of vintage storm cast. ToW will get cycled out after sales drop and it will go back and forth for as long as morons keep paying GW for either.

Battletech has one of the most progressed stories in wargames. Literally every boomer battletech player has a cutoff line for where they ruined it and they ignore the canon. Don't pretend dark age was less controversial than all this.

Slide back into being an unusually successful business in a niche industry. They didn't actually earn the growth they've experienced, so when the trends change, all the hipsters buying product will wander away and leave GW with a massively overexpanded supply chain and segregated product lines they cannot support.
