It's actually just magic, ain't gotta explain shit. Biologically female.

Mai is what trannies wish they could be and fooled themselves into believing they can be

This sounds like the same sort of coping that Bridget-haters kept coming up with before Daisuke btfo'd them all.
        >m-muh translators changing things!!!!
        >m-muh otokonoko culture when Bridget says she's a girl!!!!
        >muh bad endings!!!!! (there are no bad endings in Strive)
        >m-muh (fake) email saying Bridget isn't trans!!!!
        >Voice actress says Bridget is trans
        >Singer for Bridget's theme likes tweets saying Bridget is a trans icon
        >ASW had to comment on a fake email that was being passed around saying Bridget isn't trans
Mai is so obviously trans that you have to be massively in denial not to see that. Do you need Mori to step out on stage have to say out loud that she's trans, like what Ishiwatari had to do after all those chuds kept making excuses and fake evidence denying reality? Fucking pathetic. Grow up, read a science book, get laid and touch grass.

It'd be impossible to separate the "read story mode only" people from the entire playerbase just on raw statistics but fucking look at Mai's popularity. You just fucking know they probably came from reading the manga and hadn't touched the games beforehand and evidently from Ganker's resident maidrone, still don't outside of mashing with Ragna is the story mode.

Dark War seemed more like a desperate attempt to maintain relevance for the BlazBlue name (after Tag flopped) and generate a cashflow on the side.
Of course, it tried to emulate Fate gameplay and concept when that shit was already out of fashion.
Most of the content however was allegedly pretty solid, the what if scenarios and parallel worlds using several supernatural elements of each version of the fightan series fleshed stuff out for how short the mobile game lived.

Wasn't BB not even originally going to be a fightan but turned into one after the GG licensing dilemma? Makes sense even more so given how extensive the story mode is for a fighting game series.

BB was a Mori's Chuuni VN JRPG IP that got emergency co-ooted as a fighting game because they lost GG rights to Sega. It wasnt mesnt to be a fighting game but they needed something to tske GG's place. One of the reasons why GG hated Blazblue and its fans.

Ironic considering Daisuke never even wanted GG to be a fighting game series. There's an interview back from during the release of Missing Link where Daisuke is like "We might use this setting again but I never really want to make another fighting game as I don't play them" only for them to make GGX which was an even bigger success.

ArcSys just has bad luck with making good settings for fighting games. The franchises moving towards beat-em-ups with smaller rosters for versus modes would probably tank their value but I think it would be a neat move given they already have experience with them and would allow for more tightknit stories

Es managed to come back from the same fate as Ragna for lesser reasons back in XBlaze. If they were to take a page out of it's book, I'd say he'd be chilling in the World of Tsukuyomi right now with the guardian Es the Azure made and the Amaterasu Unit

granted; unless he wiped her memory of him as well (which he probably did otherwise the Nightmare would continue). His fate is up in the air and I just find it better than an aberration (in the context of the C-Series world) like him gets reabsorbed back into the Azure and repurposed as one of its guardians like Es was.

Still gets me a bit misty

speaking of hakumen, did him or jin ever think of coming up with a way to remove the azure grimoire from ragna to prevent him from going full beast or were murderboners there up until the very end?

Reminder: Lambchop is the best murakumo girl.

emotionless monotone humanoid girls are cheap and easy ways to get fans to fawn over a character but damn if it doesn't work 9/10 for me

Just let it die. There are unanswered questions sure but I rather have the overall plot be done instead of the devs trying to think of something new to do with the characters. GG already screwed the pooch a few times in the writing department since Xrd so I'm bowing out, GG's main plot is done BB's main plot is done, the franchises have nothing new for me and every time they try they shit the bed. On a gameplay standpoint it sucks that there hasn't been anything to fill the gap but the gameplay wasn't what got me into the series so I'm fine with it staying dead.

  22. 3 weeks ago
    Anonymous

I don't think they will, but that suits me fine because Blazblue has no value to me beyond its gameplay, and I imagine that would be the first thing to change if they were making a new one. I don't care about seeing the story continue or seeing the characters in 3D or any of that so if the game didn't build on CF's mechanics, and it almost certainly wouldn't, it wouldn't be worth getting for me.

I don't know or care about the story so I can't speak to that, but it's good if you want a fast-paced anime fighter to play online. The online's good and I'd say it's easier to get into than +R.

Plot is pretty easy to digest if you play all the story modes back but there are a few bumps that don't get covered all that well if you didn't touch the side stuff that didn't get rolled in and abridged with the main games. You'll probably want to start from scratch with the JP audio to make that jump to CF as smooth as possible. Alternatively you can do what I did and just mute the voice track since I was a dubfag as well but that's super jarring (it pisses my friend off to no end that I play the game with the voices muted, it's actually pretty funny).

Yeah, CF is surprisingly still pretty alive in most regions.
It's good fun if you want a technical, fast-paced anime fighter, and the balancing isn't half bad either. There's nobody who's unplayable, and nobody is so overpowered that they dominate completely (Izanami is inarguably the best in the game, there's plenty of characters that can keep up with her).

Well youre comparing it to DBFZ, a collaboration work. Remember Guilty Gear has always flopped. It even got mogged by Blazblue and BB fans rubbed it on GG fans faces for years

            >And why would anyone care? I thought Blazblue was the uncool spinoff people made fun of for having shitty overdesigned characters?
it didnt used to be this way...

Strive could have done everything perfectly and still wouldn't have done as well as DBFZ so it's an unfair comparison. Brand recognition does a lot and Dragon Ball's a huge brand.

Just go take a look in the Japanese servers and you realise that it's as alive as America's and more than Europe.
The only reason Ganker thinks that is because there's less Japanese players in internationnal tournaments than during the Xrd days, without realising that japanese were hard carried in Xrd by the fact that they were the only ones that could play Xrd's online and also had easy access to arcade cabinets, making it way easier for them to get good at the game.

No reason not to so long as it looks good, which it does. ArcSys is far better at it than they are at sprite work anyway. P4U has nice sprites, but compared to Capcom, SNK and even French Bread, GG and Blazblue have pretty unimpressive sprite work.

            Anonymous

Aren't you that Kagurafag? You really fell in love with Izanami that quickly?

Those games are a lot harder to pick up than Strive, and more than that, getting your ass beat in them, which is a lot more likely to happen with their smaller playerbase, is a lot more demoralizing and it's harder to even begin to pushback from it than even the worst beating you'll take in Strive. I'm not playing Strive myself right now because, though I don't hate it, I did get bored with it, but the changes they made to be more accessible to newcomers were obviously effective and it's a game that's really easy to pick up and understand, and even if it something like +R is maybe more satisfying to understand, it's a lot harder to get there. I do think being the first major recent release with rollback did a lot for it, but I think the design of the game also helped a lot to bridge people who just wanted to watch fighting games to actually playing them. I sometimes see people say a Rev 3 with rollback would have been just as successful, and I would have preferred that personally because I love Xrd, but I don't think it would have ever happened.

Bored of Strive myself, mainly because i don't have a character, but sometimes I do wonder if they went a bit too far to make it more accessible. Too many combos are locked behind RC and air game is barren, but what if cutting back on those two things actually helped the game find more success?
Or maybe it was because Strive was the only 2D game in the past 5 years that has had good online and great visuals?

I've liked Izanami for a while actually, since I saw her get played in CF arcades. I only recently just managed to wrap my head around her basic combo structure after I got back into the game.

Good taste. Shame's a brocon for the design disaster known as Ragna

                >Or maybe it was because Strive was the only 2D game in the past 5 years that has had good online and great visuals?
That does it a lot of good, but if that was all it had going for it I don't think so many people would play it over other options, like even if they didn't want to play older games they'd play Melty or KoF or something. Strive's just easy to play and it's evidently fun to play for the more casual audience. It can be hard to relate to really casual players sometimes, but when I see some of them talk about how they play beneath Floor 10 in Strive it really puts it into perspective. I see them say it a lot, which for me is a bit crazy because I think I'd be generous to myself to say I'm an intermediate-level fighting game player, but even for me it's a given that I'll get Celestial any month I decide to play Strive, and the easiness of getting Celestial is something any decent fighting game player who's played Strive can relate to I'm sure, but there are those who can barely even get to the challenge, and I think it's people like that who Strive is most popular among.

I always find myself surprised by how much of the playerbase that is when I see it, I think only 5% or so of the PC playerbase is Celestial, but there's a lot of others, many of them probably only starting out with fighting games with Strive, playing the game beneath them and it's probably the first fighting game many of them have ever really tried to learn, and it's a game that's simple enough and not so demoralizing to lose in that it did more to make them stick around than a lot of its competitors. Its visuals and online help obviously, but I think the simplicity of the mechanics really is something that works for new players to fighting games, even if it's easy to look at as simplistic and boring if you have more experience with the genre.

If simplicity really is what made Strive so much more popular, then I wonder if Arcsys has any plans to actually expand the game's system mechanics or add any new mechanics at all. Do they plan on keeping it as close to launch as possible in terms of simplicity/mechanics or will they add more depth in the future? Really curious to see what Strive will play like in a year or two

To be fair I am genuinely suprised that even strivers vote for more moves and more mechanics as actual number 1 feature they want in future updates so I wouldn't be so sure they wont do shit but its 50/50 they might or they wont.

Regardless, you're completely right that it's only a tiny fraction of the playerbase of any given fighter that tries to "get good" in any meaningful way. I had some matches offline with a mate of mine who never touched fighters, and he genuinely could not perform quarter circles at all. It really puts into perspective just how far up the proverbial ladder your average fighting game player is.

I don't think Strive got much in marketing either, for trailers it mostly just had those little trailers at a bunch of different fighting game events, and people didn't like them much, though they were at least consistent. The biggest thing for Strive and when I remember opinion turning more positive towards it was the first beta with rollback. People seemed really skeptical about it up to then, but I remember people, and I mean people at large rather than just people who already cared about Guilty Gear, began to seem to care about it and more importantly, they actually wanted to play it, which I think is the biggest hurdle for so many fighting games. A lot of fighting games can manage to generate discussion or spectators, but ones that manage to generate consistent playerbases are a lot rarer.

Ragna is a slightly more interesting character than Sol because all the latter ever fucking does is
        >heh

        >so boring
and has the most bland personality set imaginable and all of his cool characterization come from big story highlight moments.

Order Sol gives off such a strong sense of anger and aggressiveness that when I'm angry about something in real life playing him helps me to vent that anger and I'm usually relaxed by the time I'm done playing.

            Anonymous

the fact that Mori was in charge of the visual and technical aspects of Order Sol and A.B.A both makes sense and makes me kind of sad he didn't stick around to make more characters for GG.
In fact, a game like Strive would've been a perfect place to do something like Order Sol's Charge gimmick (just reduce the damage outputs), and if you want to keep the workload down, do what ML did and just have it buff one move's stats.
And now I'm disappointed Strive didn't borrow more from Missing Link; would've been a good base to go off of if you were making a game for newcomers. Flashy shit like Charges and Defensive Instant Kills anytime in the match for the newcomers and some good tight nostalgia for the vets.

The current seasonal model is better by a margin. ArcSys used to sell new a new version after a year for full price. Rev 2 was a 30 dollar patch that firced you to get it if you wanna play online.

Nta, but that kind if bitterness happens because the people who enjoyed the previous games never got their mainstream fanfare. They want a new game but same because new games have the spotlight on them. Strive is a new game, but not the game they enjoyed, but Strive got all the attention.

people want more of what they like, yeah the old games are still there but fans want what they want as is human nature.
at this point there is nothing left anymore, no fucking way in hell a game like marvel 3 or Xrd or CF could drop today because everything has to be """inclusive""" now meaning any old retard could beat you because basic fucking BnBs do 50% atleast.
and if you think im exaggerating or making shit up consider the fact that the dude who won strive EVO this year (game with most entrants) is an OW player who picked up strive as his first fighting game.

Yeah but if the argument is the current game is highly erratic that anyone could win, wouldnt that happy chaos player lose more often to other players? Afterall Fenrich started out as a nobody kid too, and he managed to fuck everyone by BBCP

Meteoric rises are fine and cool when they happen. Sometimes people are just fucking good and put in 14 hours a day and they end up a top player in only a couple years.

That's a different thing from the top players getting memed on by random no-names regularly because the game is extremely gambling-heavy and has a relatively limited skill ceiling. The best players are still going to win more often, because they will make the right decisions more of the time, but it's like the difference between chess and backgammon, the better player will win more of the time in both, but in chess if there's a decent the better player will almost always win, whereas in backgammon because randomness plays a large role maybe the worse player just gets lucky a few times in a row, and he was at a statistical disadvantage and would have lost if they played 10 games, but because they only played 3 and he happened to win the first two he wins the whole match.
And this is actually fully intentional, Daisuke straight up said it in an interview. He's not trying to make Chess/shogi, he's making backgammon/mahjong.
              >"Up until now I’ve aimed to create Fighting Games that play like Shougi. Shougi is a game where if there is a gap in you and your opponent’s skill level, then you will almost never lose. However, in order to match the current trends, it was necessary to change that part."

im drunk RN so take this with a grain of salt but i remember that umisho lost to some 16 year old player in a mirror set and the reason they even played that was because the kid said that HC was was easy and any old retard could win with him, and that triggered the chud.

Its okay when it happened in old games anon you know it was le epic newcomer destoying veterans anime arc but when someone does that nowadays its very bad. omito won every tournament he attended for 2 years straight, no other johnny player has a record as clean as his, no one even comes close.
the last EVO jp finals for Xrd were between a chipp (top 10 at best) and a haehyun player (bottom 10) you would never in a thousand years see that kind of GF in a strive major because the game is all about damage, who can cash out the best? thats your top 8.

By that metric, you're telling me MK11 is the best fucking fighting game ever made.

I think Litchi's design sucks because she's supposed to be really sexy and lasvicious but she's more modestly dressed than half the cast. I can't take the attempt to make her look sexy seriously when she's standing next to Noel in her microskirt as if that isn't a million times more sexual than Litchi just having big tits and cleavage, and that's not even mentioning someone like Makoto. You can't have someone as modest looking as Litchi be framed as the sexy one in agame overflowing with such whorish looking characters.

What makes less sense to me is Nine. She's a married women, she hates getting stares, hates men even harder.
But she dresses with her tits flopping around and wearing thighhighs that have an inward cut showing off under-thighs.

Considering I never brought up the quality of Strive or any other FG, no. How did your dumbass even come to that conclusion?

Nobody's doing it for BB because it isnt a larpers IP. It isnt cool to put BB on a pedestal. Now +R was the hilarious one, and eventually Xrd when it gets rollback eventually, because vocal minorities love to pretend to play those, but it'll tank after the first few months.

I guess, I remember BB hitting like 4k players after the rollback update, but was back to pre-rollback numbers in like a month and a half. Thought more people would stick around to be honest.

I don't mind a few filler characters honestly. I don't think every fighting game character needs to be SUPER important so long as they look cool and are fun. Honestly I feel like most modern fighting games have only suffered for trying to make every character "matter."

But on the whole the plot just kind of got....screwey. It was one thing when it was just that pretty clean time loop shenanigan's. But then they started getting into parallel shit, and this character is the real Saya but not really because Saya is skynet or we're all in a dream bubble or some shit. And observers and terumi being a fuck and I dunno. I still don't know why Celica is important.

So let me try and illuminate the plot of CP. Bear in mind yes it's very stupid. Once BB had to stick to a big singular narrative instead of a lot of smaller narratives you start to realize how unstable this setting always was. But here we go:

To understand what the fuck Saya even is, we need to understand what the Azure is and what the Sankishin are. The Azure is basically the source. All information, all souls, all power, everything originates and returns to here. The Sankishin are a trio of robots that are responsible for maintaining reality. The Master Unit is Amaterasu. Amaterasu's job is take energy from the Azure and convert it into reality. The world of Blazblue is a simulation invented by Amaterasu. Who made Amaterasu? No one knows. Tsukuyomi is the defender of Amaterasu. Nothing can penetrate its shield. Nothing. Susano'o is the sword of Amaterasu and this part is important. Because Susano'o intent is to destroy any timelines or causal events Amaterasu wants removed. Anything Susano'o kills isn't just dead. It's deleted from history. And reality will warp itself to account for it without paradox. Which is FUCKED UP. But Susano'o is supposed to be an empty suit of armor. And yet somehow Susano'o grew a soul of its own. Independent of Amaterasu. And Susano'o began to understand that it was a slave. Even if it destroyed everything, Amaterasu would just put it back and Susano'o would've just been carrying out its purpose as a destroyer. So that soul forced itself to the edge of Amaterasu's simulation and broke away from its own body and infiltrated reality as a vengeful spirit.

So if you ever wondered why Terumi is so fanatical about killing its sister unit. This is why. It's a dark reflection of Ragna's and Saya's relationship.

So now we have to talk about the Murakumo War because all the shit about the Black Beast stems from this one event.

Mankind found the Boundary. Somehow. And then they found Susano'o's empty body. And using Susano'o they were able to notice Amaterasu. They tried sending rovers down there but anything that spent any time in the Boundary would instantly be destroyed or scrambled. They noticed Amaterasu would only react to human shaped things so Relius made the Murakumos, human shaped rovers meant to explore the Boundary. Most were just destroyed but one made it all the way to the bottom and touched Amaterasu. And when it came back it was alive. It had its own soul. More than that it became an extension of Amaterasu. It could rewrite reality as it willed. Humans gonna human, they made more as weapons of war. Until they realized

            >Wait...we just made guns with the power of god and anime that could kill us at any time

So yeah humans turned on the Murakumos. They bound Saya on a big stick and threw her to the bottom of the Boundary and tried to kill off her offshoots. Except the offshoots don't wanna die. So there was a war and humans got washed. Humans invented the Izayoi to kill the immortal Murakumos but it wasn't close to enough. So humanity said "fuck it." They took the Izayoi concept and created a self observing monster that would eat everything indisciminately. They also made Takamagahara as a man made replacement for Amaterasu. The idea being that it didn't matter if the Black Beast destroyed everything since TKGA would usurp the Master Unit and remake reality in a way where humans were gods. So the Black Beast destroyed everything. EVERYTHING. But as TKGA sank to the bottom of the Boundary there was a problem. The world was already being remade. Something had already usurped the Master Unit. It was the first Murakumo that humanity threw into the Boundary. She'd found the Master Unit again and had taken control. And she remade the world alread.

Okay I'm getting there. So like what even is Ragna and the time loops?

Well Saya, whom I'm going to call The Origin from here on out since there are multiple Saya's...you'll see why in a minute, and TKGA are gridlocked at this point. Both were made to control reality and can even reset time if need be. But there's a catch. TKGA can't make new possibilities, it can only influence things across already existing ones. Saya can do whatever the fuck she wants. So why redo the war the killed her? Because despite being fucking god the only thing she wants in life is dick. And I'm only half exaggerating. See Saya has this vision in her head about a brave hero coming to save her from her plight. And any time something happens to fuck that up she'll reset time and do it over again. TKGA is still trying to complete its purpose of usurping the Master Unit and elevating humanity to godhood. And any time something happens to fuck that up it'll reset time and do everything over again. So you have 2 super computers resetting time again and again and again and at the center of all of this is Ragna, The Origin's made up OC that she wants to come save her. This is why every ending in these games, ALL OF THEM, are canon. It's the result of 2 supercomputers fighting over who gets to control reality. Because The Origin can't influence TKGA since its in the Boundary with her and TKGA can't make The Origin fuck off and stop turning the world into her fanfic.

So both of them began to get frustrated. The Origin released a subroutine based on her frustration called Hades Izanami. Which is the expression of her desire to just say "fuck it" and make everything die. TKGA decided to say "fuck it" and released Terumi. Yeah remember him? TKGA influenced things to give him a body he can actually operate in, in the hopes of shaking things up and offering them an opening to get rid of The Origin.

      Anonymous

Blazblue started out pretty casual but got hugely more complicated as the series progressed. GG did the same but with a headstart, culminating in +r, and then dialed it back a little in Xrd because +r was admittedly fucking insanity but without really changing the core of the gameplay much, and then kneecapped itself in Strive and rewrote most of its entire DNA from the ground up.
Which you're allowed to like if you want, it's just nothing like what GG used to be and it's inaccurate to paint all of the disappointment with it as illegitimate, even if a lot of it is just retards mad about chud shit that didn't play any of the games anyway. Of course on the other hand there's a lot of people that will type a thousand words about how Strive is actually no different form the older GGs without having played any of them too.

Netcode helps but it's only a small part of what makes a game popular
Everything related to Gameplay in general only makes up at absolute most maybe half of the reason for a game succeeding. The rest is timing, advertising, recognizability, momentum/luck with post launch events, aesthetic and porn and memes etc. You can make the best game in the world with all the best modern features and excellent gameplay that directly answers everyone's complaints about the genre and because it isn't a mainstream IP that happens to be well positioned in the market at the time no one takes a second look at it.

So where does Jin fit into everything? His existence wasn't something designed by the Master Unit, right? How does the Power of Order relate to the Boundary and the Master Unit? Is it an external failsafe created by whoever created the Sankishin Units?

      Anonymous

The Power of Order exists as a way to prevent keep Order and prevent one single person from becoming too strong. in Dark War, it's expanded to keeping Phantom Fields (the various possibilities and timeloops branching off from the main timeline) stable; messing with said stability points a target on your back. Celica, Hakumen and Jin were all made by the Power of Order as counters to Nine, The Black Beast and Ragna respectively.
      >Celica nullifies sethir while Nine has the ability to infinitely gather sethir
      >Jin was made to kill Ragna before he got too powerful and become the Black Beast, hence why there's huge emphasis on Jin's destiny in CS and why people feel cheated by their fights in CP and CF

Tsubaki's was given to her when Jin's weakness became apparent (which is weird because Order scales Jin against Ragna so I assume it was because Jin was overexerting himself at that point) and Makoto gained a weaker version because of her dedication to protecting her friends.
There isn't much to Order beyond that, which makes it all the more frustrating given how important it is to the Ragna-Jin-Hakumen conflict

If Tsubaki's meant to be Jin's substitute, why was she so shit? Has Ragna ever had trouble fighting her?

having the Izayoi gives her some power boost especially in forcing opponents to 'recognize' their death (could basically brute force even an immortal's death), but compared to the hardest hitters in the series, she struggles to keep up, especially since she lacks a Nox Nyctores of her own. And if she struggles to keep up with Jin and Noel, I doubt that she'd be able to keep up with Ragna

the less you ask or think about Order, the better; it's there to give Jin and Hakumen a reason to fight Ragna and keep up with him regardless.

wasn't it in CT and CS because he was constantly holding back in his fights and that was something Jubei and Rachel would constantly chide him for?

                Anonymous

No. There are only a handful of opponents he needs to chimp out against. He can easily beat opponents like Litchi and Tsubaki without using Blood Kain. Also, he's steadily getting stronger so he can even beat Nu without relying on the Grimoire.

                Anonymous

True. By the end of CF, he steamrolls almost everyone without even needing to use it. They do mention that everyone's powers are weakened because of the Embry or something and both Ragna and Nine are unaffected as both don't have Drives and have to fight using their own strength and external powers, but he still beat a Nu powered up by absorbing Nox Nyctores at the time, so that ws likely just copium to try and not make Hakumen look like the bitch that he is, only for him to die right after to based Terumi.

                Anonymous

Well you have to remember that Ragna steadily caught up to Hakumen across the games, so by that point the gap between them wasn't that high anymore. The Embryo weakening Hakumon was enough to put Ragna over and let him win without much trouble.

BBCP had Ragna learning to not always rely on the BlazBlue. He beat Nu-13 without it near the end of BBCP.

Ive never once used IB outside of Izanami and Susan matchups because they are moron characters. Its not as bad as Xrd where just blocking is almost mandatory against a lot of characters

I don't know man when I'm stuck in the corner blocking for 10 years against Litch/Carl and then get counterhit the moment I try to get out it feels like IB would've helped. Even if it didn't it brings me to my second point, the amount of knowledge checks in this game kills my drive to play.

When I get pressured by Carl, I just block and pray. IBing isnt going to do you any good, Carls have too many setups to account for. Admittedly, Ive not fought Litchi that much to comment

I think people blame Nomura too much. Nomura's issue is that he prioritizes spectacle over everything else, so everything that happens in the games he's in charge of are designed to justify that spectacle. But Nojima's the one who's actually responsible for most of the in-depth retardation. Nomura's not a writer, and the one time he tried it was just 358/2 Days. Which wasn't great and had some dumb elements but it's not on the level of what Nojima's done.

Ragna, Jin and Saya (whom Noel and others are cloned from) are test tube babies made by Relius from the 5th prime field device (Origin is the 1st, or 0th)
The 5th (and probably other PFDs) is cloned from Saya Terumi, Naoto's sister. She was also the original user of Soul Eater, the drive Ragna got from the grimoire
Relius implied Naoto and Saya became enemies and Naoto devours her or something, which might be why Ragna got all the siblings conflict bullshit

BlazBlue had three main artists. One was the story artist who did all the story art. Mori did the promotional art for Calamity Trigger and Chronophantasma, while Katou did it for Continuum Shift and Centralfiction. They were also collectively the main character designers for all four games.

I'd argue the inconsistency's probably worse. Ragna's face doesn't really look the same between CT and CF. It's especially obvious if you look at Ragna's character portrait and then the CF story art. These are two different people.

I seriously am unable to believe anything but like 1% of you gays learned this series. I tried BBCF and BnBs alone can require some precise shit like microdash links. There's no fucking way I can believe a bunch of people learned this shit even at a beginner level when we have unironic threads about motions being too hard and gatekeeping new players. People here have the autism but not the resilience for this kind of anime game bullshit.

I guess it was mostly just the characters I looked into when I tried playing it. I was looking into it when rollback dropped and honestly even with prior fighting game experience I felt like this game filtered the fuck out of me. Even once you do grind your shit out actually applying it in a match online is a whole different story.

I just play a character without microdashes
Or at the very least, not too many.

I’ve playing this series for over a decade, my man, and been to plenty of tourneys. Going to be heading to another one next week, actually.
Regardless, you’re drastically overestimating how hard this game is. You don’t need to do the super optimal stuff to play well, and plenty of characters are super simple (especially Mai, literally designed for new players that just read the manga).

I looked into a few characters but tried learning Arakune who I understand is both difficult and unconventional but in general the barrier of entry seemed pretty high for a large portion of the cast here. Honestly I've never been that active in the anime scene but I don't get how BB was seen as the "baby game", +R felt way more natural to pick up for me. Obviously getting good would take time but just running my character's basic gameplan felt pretty straightforward to me.

          Anonymous

Oh man, starting with Arakune is a rough one.
I think the reason it was called that was because it was simplified, not necessarily easier. Stuff like Guts and Stun was removed, for instance. It’s certainly still a hard game to learn.

Calamity Trigger and Continuum Shift are actually rather easy to get into. Broken as hell, yes but still easy. Hell Calamity Trigger might actually be easier than STRIVE rn.
It's only with Chrono Phantasma and especially Central Fiction that the series went full austim and became a legacy fighter. It's also when the franchise sales drastically dropped.

One thing I always found annoying is how in the game, Ragna has this sort of rough, wonky fighting style and no adaptation ever actually gets it right. Ragna's primarily a brawler. Over half his moves are just him smacking things with his arms and legs. He only brings out the sword for his C moves, D moves and a select few specials as well as Carnage Scissors. Which makes sense because Jubei only gave him the sword when he started out on his journey. He never actually taught Ragna to be a swordsman, so Ragna doesn't fight like a swordsman at all. He just treats his sword like a tool that he brings out from time to time but never goes all out with it. And it bothers me how adaptations never seem to reflect that. He's extremely reliant on his sword in Alter Memory.

      Anonymous

I mean Ragna's sword is its own stable timeloop so it's not like anyone know to use it properly

Like if you think about it, Ragna's pretty lazy about how he fights. None of his moves are particularly physically exerting or require great dexterity. He doesn't do flashy flips or techniques, none of that junk. So then you get to his sword. He primarily fights with a reverse grip, and the reason he does that isn't so much because he prefers the reverse grip, it's because his fighting style is just quickly bringing it out, smacking the enemy with it and then putting it back. The way he carries it means that it's just plain easier to grab it with a reverse grip.
