In short, one has to basicaly forfeit actually important things in order to buy newly released games.
Internet services are not as slow and as expansive here as you think. It's infinitely cheaper to download torrents for free than to buy games or movies or anything digital.
Also, digital games have no reselling value so it's complete lost money.

Console exclusives are becoming increasingly a thing of the past. The only console manufacturer that isn't porting their shit to pc is Nintendo, and with a decent enough rig you can emulate those. PS5 has some exclusives that have yet to be released on PC, but nearly all of them are skewed heavily toward the "moviegame" style that I don't really like.
That said a lot of multiplats and PC ports have bad optimization.
Game pass is pretty appealing if you want to try out a ton of games, and you can still buy them if you like them, but that is also on PC
Consoles are overall much more convenient, but the money you pay for online/gaypass will stack up over the 4-6 years of the console generation, and it's not as cheap as you might think (still somewhat cheaper than entry price for a high end pc)
But the fact PC can play basically any game ever released through emulation (aside from current gen ps5 exclusives) is the big selling point for me.

It didn't used to be a fee, so I presume a lot of older games before that change are grandfathered into lifetime contracts. But there's a reason Capcom is both removing Denuvo from games and flailing around trying to put their own solution back in. Console exclusives are becoming increasingly a thing of the past. The only console manufacturer that isn't porting their shit to pc is Nintendo, and with a decent enough rig you can emulate those. PS5 has some exclusives that have yet to be released on PC, but nearly all of them are skewed heavily toward the "moviegame" style that I don't really like.
That said a lot of multiplats and PC ports have bad optimization.
Game pass is pretty appealing if you want to try out a ton of games, and you can still buy them if you like them, but that is also on PC
Consoles are overall much more convenient, but the money you pay for online/gaypass will stack up over the 4-6 years of the console generation, and it's not as cheap as you might think (still somewhat cheaper than entry price for a high end pc)
But the fact PC can play basically any game ever released through emulation (aside from current gen ps5 exclusives) is the big selling point for me.
