Way better than expected. It lacked more memorable music and the robot gimmick felt like it could be better because it wasnt really as scary as the SAX.
But it plays like a dream and is all around a good fricking time. Handed voicr acting better than new zelda games.
>Handed voicr acting better than new zelda games.
I can't deny that Samus speaking chozo was a great moment
that was a great touch i agree
only thing i don't like about it is the counter, though it's a lot better than sr
I unironically clapped. There's a genuine argument to be had about whether SR and Dread maybe went too far in their efforts to repair Samus' character, but this moment was spot on.
Metroid is so dead
The creator was ahead of his time making Other M literal anime. Give it a few years and you trannies will actually beg for it.
You say “too far” I say “return to baseline.” Samus has literally always been an over the top hammy action hero from the 80’s. She’s part of a dying breed. Samus doing ridiculous action poses in the Prime games while completely alone in the wilderness is 100% true to character. She rocks.
I totally agree. I'm just saying that I can see where some people(those who are actually saying it in good faith, not the shitposters) are coming from. Samus is even more over the top than usual in Dread. I enjoy that, but I think this about the limit of how cuhraaayzee she should be before it gets silly.
God I love that slick dodge in the Kraid fight. What frickin' stacy.
i loved it. feels like a fever dream that it actually came out and was good. it's like the opposite of duke nukem forever.
>Final
God I hope not.
EMMIs as obstacles were cool but I fricking hated the tedium of actually having to defeat them. It basically boiled down to “Find the longest hallway.”
The EMMI areas also were way too samey. They could've made the areas look slightly more distinct or at the very least give them different colors of fog.
For me the problem is that after the first game the EMMI stops being a fearful predator and starts being a pest. I don't know how you could fix them though
alright but the emmi went from an interesting novelty to a tedious gimmick very quickly. having a character exposition at you all the time wasn't worth the twist it set up, but that's more personal preference
the homage to fusion was really lame, dread's atmosphere wasn't similar at all.
fusion had way better music too
>final
Word of god has said it isn’t the last game in the chronology you disingenuous turbo homosexual. Anyway I thought it was great. The buttery smooth movement and animation quality are insane, not just for a Nintendo game but for any game period. It’s also the ideal size and length, it doesn’t overstay its welcome like some other games in the genre that think gigantic and slow is good.
>Word of god has said it isn’t the last game in the chronology
Who said anything about chronology?
It also isn’t the last Metroid game either, triple axel giga Black person.
>It also isn’t the last Metroid game either
Haha
Okay, anon, I’ll take your bait. Why would it be the last Metroid game? Hard mode: it isn’t sales, because it’s squarely performing on par with B-list titles like Kirby lately. You know we can just have a Metroid thread without someone acting like a moron right?
>no response
So it is just shit bait. This is definitely not the thread. Better luck next time I guess.
Oh my apologies that I didn't check the thread for an hour, I am so sorry that I don't spend 24/7 here. It's the last game because there is nothing else coming out, and from the way you're lashing out you know it's true too.
>i-it’s true because… I said so!
dumb Black person, terrible thread
Okay, what's the next metroid game?
Metroid Prime 4
Metroid 6 will come out first. Spanish leakers claim Mercury Steam is already working on it.
Citation needed.
The only logical explanation for the absolute silence on MP4's development is because it's being shifted to a launch title for the Switch successor.

Nash Wheedle on Twitter is not overly trustworthy but he leaked Dread ahead of time and is the only leaker to have done so. He clearly has a source with Mercury Steam, so it’s the one thing he can probably be trusted on. He claims Mercury Steam is working on a new game in the series slated for 2025. It’s a Twitter homosexual so take it or leave it. For the record I agree that MP4 is a switch successor launch title and I don’t think it’s a hot take either. Retro’s been hiring devs for next gen for the last two years, the writing was on the wall a while ago.
The Duke Nukem Forever of Metroid games. Your grandchildren might get a chance to play it.
dread is a bigger DNF case than prime 4, it was in development since 2005 and canceled twice. Prime 4 was in development since 2016-2017 and rebooted once.
Can you believe that there are people out there who want the elevators to be phased out? These people are silly.
That's why it's still so hard for me to get over the fact that Metroid Dread exists. The thing had been video game myth for like half my life. And now it's real. I've played it multiple times. And it's still so surreal.
the dread we got is a completely different game that what it was originally envisioned as, they may as well have called it something else
Not really. Sakamoto said that it’s pretty close to the original vision . The reason why it took so long is because the EMMI AI wasn’t possible on old hardware
i find that hard to believe, it's not like they do anything really complex
The game was put into active development three times before Mercury Steam picked it up, and was shelved each time because the complexity didn’t match what Sakamoto envisioned. This video explains it all pretty well:
?si=HIy1RxDkucAfOKKM
Remember we are talking about the DS and maybe 3ds here.
the movement system of the emmi is quite complicated with the inverse kinematics it uses.
Samus being chased by an enemy is the only thing that survived after the cancelations. sakamoto's games had a heavy focus on the GF after super and dread was going to follow until the rearrangement of SPD/backlash of other M
imagine calling any other metroid game the DNF of the series in a thread about DREAD. Prime 4 hasn't been in development for half as long as dread and it hasn't been canceled half as many times either.
Damn, I guess we’re never getting another Zelda game ever again because we don’t know the next one releasing.
moron
>Metroid is as big as Zelda!
Delusional
And despite it not being as big as Zelda it's still getting games. Anyone hear from Kid Icarus lately? I guess F-Zero got a new release which is just the SNES game with online play. And Star Fox fans are putting a hit out on you right now.
>And despite it not being as big as Zelda it's still getting games
It is?
That’s not what I was arguing at all, dipshit. Gain some reading compare skills.
What I am saying is that it’s asinine to assume a series is over simply because we haven’t heard about the next entry. Dread is the best selling game in the series by a country mile, we’re fine
So much scmovement i went back on hard after beating it and naturally speed ran in and lapped my friend in the story, and i hate speed running.
I'm not an Metroid fan at all, i'm neutral towards the series.
But art design and graphics of this Metroid are so talentlessly dreadful, they make game unplayable.
Consider me filtered by shit art direction. I'm high on my farts, whatever.
It sounds like you just have shit taste my guy.
No, it seems you like neon metal greeble slop.
While Super Metroid was almost gigerish.
Dread's artstyle is a carbon copy of Samus Returns.
That means only that Samus Returns artstyle is bad as well.
Sure, but that also means Dread copied a bad artstyle. 2.5D platforms will never look better than 2D platforms.
>Sure, but that also means Dread copied a bad artstyle.
You know it's not mandatory to blindly copy bad artstyle or even insist on 2.5d?
yes if you only play games for art, you have shit tastes, but I bet you probably still play other nintendo games with way less polish like pokemon games that just look like indie unity projects
Needs a companion game, like the last neo-metroid entry (4) to redeem it
Would it be better if they adapted Samus returns HD or made a new game? What if they made Fusion? Super?
All the tension the EMMIs could have brought was sapped by having extremely obvious designated areas for them. The EMMI areas should have just looked the same as the rest of the area so you don't know when you walk into one.
shit game. shit metroid game. shit Nintendo game. shit anything game. they will never reach prime 1 and 2 heights ever again, let alone super metroid
Very good
Unfortunately doesn't lend itself very well to randomizer shenanigans but a great entry nonetheless and I'll probably replay it again later
Metroid Games are far too short to warrant their price tag. Imagine if the worlds were more random to warrant multiple playthroughs.
>roguelikegay opinion
discarded
As much as I enjoy well crafted worlds, Dread simply didn't have one.
I think having a randomiser mode unlocked after your first playthrough (which does things like katana zero where enemy locations can be randomised to dev specified locations), in addition to more toggleable difficulty settings (lives / permadeath) would be pretty fun.
Would be great if you could do time / percentage completion leaderboards with players using the same seed and see what rules each player is using.
You're supposed to replay the games to get a better time.
Not a selling point because you're allowed to replay literally any game you want.
When are we getting a stoic mother figure x nervous shota character dynamic in these games?
Hopefully never.
Super Metroid. Baby Metroid is the shota if you squint really hard.
No armor removal at the end of the game! Metroid went woke!
Just kidding. It was pretty damn good, imho. Not perfect because it was a bit too linear and the soundtrack could have been better. In terms of gameplay it was pretty solid, and even though i'm not a fan of close counter, it wasn't too bad either.
I'd be fine if Mercury Steam did the next one as well, and i'd trust them to do even better.
Fun combat but shitty Metroid formula. Regular points of no return, braindead simple level design, literally designed for speedrunners aka soulless. The most condemning fact, however, is that THE MUSIC WAS UTTER GARBAGE.
>Metroid Dread has been a real video game that actually exists for two years now
Yeah it didn't feel like Metroid so you forgot about it. Otherwise you'd never be able to shut the frick up about it like Zeldatards ever since breath of the wild came out
zeldatards are mentally ill morons
I thought it was fun.
As a Metroid fan it was pretty terrible.
Didn't even feel compelled to play it again, the entire time I just felt like I could be playing Super instead.
For everyone else it was a typical mid action platforming game.
Not sure why some diehard fans froth over it.
7/10 easily, but it suffers from trying to make Samus too much of le heckin epic yas queen badass.
Webm related, for example, bores me to tears because it's the game trying to make her a heckin badass marvel movie character. But I'm not doing anything. I'm sitting here and watching the game play itself. Occasionally it lets me mash a button to get pity damage in, but I'm not dodging his attacks, I'm not avoiding danger, I'm not earning my gameplay. It's just such a drag on an otherwise decently made game. I HATE attempts at trying to make a character look cool. Either they're cool because they're fun to play as, or they're boring trash. There's no inbetween.
A compelling argument.
Now let's check the MD5.
Yes, and?
This sounds like ACgay posting. Especially when not only is that boss counter optional, it's actually more efficient to not do it, which is something only an experienced player would know
It's still poor game design because it rewards laziness, even if it's optional. However, oftentimes you're forced into these cinematic boss segments, and they stop being optional. Like this webm.
>decent Raven Beak fight beforehand
>absolutely ruined by mindless button mashing straight out of God of War
Soured my enjoyment of the final stretch.
Though in this scene, it might just be holding down the button as opposed to button mashing. It's been 2 years, I can't even remember.
>Raven Beak X
>Button mashing
What?
see
It's hard to remember those shitty movie segments as well as the actual decent gameplay segments.
>shitty movie segments
So fricking disingenous, what part of holding A for 5 fricking seconds to do a charge beam and aiming at a mouth is a "shitty movie segment", it's literally the victory lap of the final boss.
This reply is worded so poorly that I'm going to assume you're ACgay replying to yourself to continue shitting up the thread.
I think you've got brain rot or you're an ESL, probably both.
I was right, then.
Please go ahead and point out what was "badly worded"
Now you get it. It took over a decade but metroidposters are finally learning that ACgay will respond to itself whether it succeeds in driving engagement or not, because it is mentally ill and has no life outside of shitposting. Most normal Canadian. This thread is toast, it will hit bump limit with hundreds of posts being ACgay and whatever small handful of gullible autists decide to poke it with a stick. Better luck next time.
>moans about games he hasn't played
>calls them movies
>reddit spacing
>gets basic facts of his own webm's wrong
Thats ACgay in a nutshell.
so, you don't know what you're actually complaining about
take notice, kids. this is how you become a sour old man, no matter how young you may be
It rewards reactions and pattern recognition. Which is the point of the counter system as a whole. And that part is just a cinematic victory lap. The actual fight against Raven Beak is over by that point. Do you also get mad that you can't lose the run back to the ship in Metroid 2 after the baby hatches?
>It rewards reactions and pattern recognition.
So at what point in those webms are you dodging enemy attacks and using skillful acrobatics? It looks like you're just mashing the attacking button, or holding it down, while Samus does all the theatrics. The game was already perfectly fine without these tumors infesting it. Why drag the game down with them?
>And that part is just a cinematic victory lap.
You shouldn't need a cinematic victory lap. Why can't you be happy with the fight itself? And the ensuing escape sequence? Unfortunately that's a sign of a bad fight, that you hate it so much that you need the equivalent of junk food piled ontop to make it palatable.
>Do you also get mad that you can't lose the run back to the ship in Metroid 2 after the baby hatches?
Considering Samus Returns gets overwhelming praise for getting rid of this segment and letting you continue playing the game with babby in tow, I'd say yes, it is fair to get mad at that segment. Infact, doesn't Samus Returns ALSO get praise for removing the victory lap and replacing it with a decently difficult boss fight? Why is it okay then?
By your own logic, Samus Returns is objectively worse because it has the audacity to remove the victory lap from the original, and replace it with a non-cinematic boss fight. Do you agree with this?
>You shouldn't need a cinematic victory lap
Why not?
Because you should constantly be in danger until you hit the end credits. You're on a perilous, dangerous foreign planet, filled with horrible monsters and nightmare creatures. A cinematic victory lap is just ruining the atmosphere of the entire game by implying that nothing can harm you as long as you have plot armor.
>ecause you should constantly be in danger until you hit the end credits.
Why?
Because, objectively, it's more fun. The moment you hit the "overpowered" stage in any Metroid game, the game becomes kind of boring. Space jump means you never have to worry about timing jumps or worrying about parkour anymore, plasma beam just lets you instamurder everyone, screw attack lets you literally jump through enemies and kill them. Didn't Dread get accolades for nerfing the screw attack so it isn't an instant "I win" button?
>Because, objectively, it's more fun
No, you meant "subjectively", but that's okay I've corrected it for you. 🙂
Nah, in this instance it's objective fact that being overpowered just isn't that fun.
Phew good thing you've beaten the final boss then!
Also going back to your post
>Didn't Dread get accolades for nerfing the screw attack so it isn't an instant "I win" button?
I thought you said you'd played the game, so surely you'd know?
I'm asking for consensus. That's all. If Metroid is a terrible series unless it has a victory lap in it, then surely Samus Returns should've been shat on for removing the victory from the original Metroid 2. That's the inconsistency that doesn't make sense.
>If Metroid is a terrible series unless it has a victory lap in it
Huh? When has anyone ever said that?
Stop replying to him, dipshit.
Just over a minute apart, weird
Shut up
>S-Shut up!
Actually fricking pathetic.
What are you even screeching about? All I did was tell the guy replying to ACgay to stop giving him attention, only for you to inexplicably accuse me of samegayging a completely unrelated post
>I-I'm not ACgay I swear
Just stop, it's pathetic.
Accusing random people of being ACgay doesn’t help the problem, moron.
If nobody said that, then there should be no issue with me wanting the "victory lap" removed. It serves no purpose other than to waste time. You said it yourself, you loved the actual Raven Beak fight, didn't you? So why staple this terrible non-gameplay element ontop of it?
>then there should be no issue with me wanting the "victory lap" removed.
You can't give a single good reason why it should be though.
It's a glorified cutscene with a quick time event slapped onto it. There's no movement involved, no dodging of enemy attacks, no advanced parkour required for survival. You've stripped everything that's Metroid out of that segment.
>It's a glorified cutscene with a quick time event slapped onto it.
What's the QTE exactly?
>There's no movement involved,
Oh so you literally haven't played it.
>What's the QTE exactly?
Press x to win.
>Oh so you literally haven't played it.
Samus doing wacky action stunts in a non-interactive cutscene doesn't count as movement or parkour. It barely counts as gameplay unless you count "mashing x to fire your pea shooter and missiles". Does that even count as gameplay, when your enemy is unable to even hurt you?
>Samus doing wacky action stunts in a non-interactive cutscene doesn't count as movement or parkour.
So you do admit you haven't played it then? It's weird how you don't remember that you have to move Samus's arm to aim at Ravenbeak's face, you know the exact same thing you had to do with the EMMI fights, which for some reason you haven't brought up at all.
>no you see you have to slightly move the control stick at a HUMONGOUS TARGET THAT TAKES UP HALF THE FRICKING SCREEN
Better watch out, we are hitting kaizo mario levels of difficulty here. Let's just ignore how Raven Beak X literally does nothing but very slowly crawl to you and you slightly touching the control stick means nothing if he doesn't even dodge your attack.
You certainly see the problem here? Taking a potentially good villain and a potentially good fight, and reducing them to a mindless and generic blob that dies in a glorified cutscene?
>>no you see you have to slightly move the control stick at a HUMONGOUS TARGET THAT TAKES UP HALF THE FRICKING SCREEN
Huh but you said it was all "cinematic movement", so which is it? Once again, why are you okay with the EMMI fights when it's the exact same thing? Is it because you've only watched cutscenes on youtube?
>Huh but you said it was all "cinematic movement"
Anon, are you seriously trying to argue a technicality here? "I pressed a button, so that makes this 30 second cinematic interlude okay"
Come on man. You're better than that.
>Once again, why are you okay with the EMMI fights when it's the exact same thing?
Honestly, I'm not. The Emmis are kind of disappointing. An attempt at aping the SA-X, but suffering from all the same flaws.
>Anon, are you seriously trying to argue a technicality here?
But it's not a technicality, no matter how you try to weasle it. First you claimed it was just mashing A and nothing else and now we find out you didn't realise it was holding A or that any kind of movement was involved, clearly because you didn't play it. Why can't you just admit that you haven't played it?
So you are trying to argue a technicality. The most baseline attempt at defending a poor segment of the game.
Riddle me this: why is it okay for a Metroid game to not involve parkour or dodging enemy attacks? Why is it okay for the game to automatically do that for you?
Have you played the game, yes or no?
If I didn't play it in the slightest, and if I was trolling, I'd just call it a shit game and move on. Don't you think I care about the game by giving it a fair analysis? Isn't a 7/10 a fair score when not using a game journalist scale? I just don't like the dumb counters. wtf is wrong with that?
>Don't you think I care about the game by giving it a fair analysis?
What's fair about pretending you've played it though? You claim to dislike the final boss but don't even know the mechanics, which were present throughout the game.
I'm not criticizing the fight itself. Raven Beak himself is fun and a good challenge. I just hate the stupid cinematic quick time event at the end, that people seem to praise because it makes the game look like a marvel movie.
>I just hate the stupid cinematic quick time event at the end
The one that isn't cinematic or quick time, you mean?
>you slightly wiggle the control stick and press a button, it's actually kino
There are more QTE's associated with your image than all of metroid dead.
Not gonna argue that, Revengeance is just as bad. But I'm not defending the game, I just liked using that image. All I'm saying is that
Dread could easily be bumped up to an 8/10 game without the dumb counters. Or at least make it so the counters can be failed mid-counter, kinda like with the chozo soldiers who have a second counter command you need to hit after the first, or the emmis who kill you if you fail their counters. Just something.
Why should your rating mean anything to anyone?
If you don't care about it, more power to you. But it's not a shitpost to hate the dumb counters. Let me ask you, am I condemning the entire game because of them?
I can discard your opinion, got it. Have fun arguing with yourself for the rest of the thread homosexual, I’m gonna go take a shit.
And yet you seethe when people point out AC6 is a movie game, claiming anybody saying that is a shitposter.
hypocrite.
Still better and less cinematic than AC6.
Nah, if you want to see a marvel movie that would be AC6.
A real moviegame
I still can't get over how, out of all media produced, marvel films are that guys only point of reference.
Being able to counter attacks is a great risk/reward feature in every single game that uses them. They reward offensive gameplay where you're actively putting yourself in harms way to encourage being attacked.
>Being able to counter attacks is a great risk/reward feature in every single game that uses them
This is a defense for regular metroid enemies, where the counter is instant and happens within maybe a fraction of a second, but it's not an excuse when one single dodge results in a 16 second cinematic where you're doing nothing but mashing the attack button. I don't even need to post the webm, you know who I'm talking about.
That is AC6, not dread
I guess you'd like to see the webm then, for clarity.
I'm even giving you the benefit of the doubt by not counting the cutscene afterward, which is why I said 16 seconds specifically. That's lame, but for a completely different reason.
>Must suck not being able to enjoy a character doing exactly what they should.
See, the problem here is that this is a video game. I don't want to watch Samus be a wacky comic book superhero, I want to PLAY the game.
If you're watching Samus durif these cutscenes it looks cool, but the monster just doesn't respond or sits around waiting to be shot.
Exactly. These moments could've been used to signal phase changes to different parts of the fight, like how a Metroid Prime boss will lose armor or limbs, or mutate, and now you're fighting something different. Wasted opportunity.
And yet you defend AC6, which has MUCH longer Cutscenes.
Yeah, I don't mind seeing something cool for playing well. Must suck not being able to enjoy a character doing exactly what they should.
>marvel movie
Oh it's you
Abandon threads lads, ACgay is back.
It wasn’t a very good thread in the first place but now the seal of mediocrity is assured.
Gameplay was absolutely great, game looks beautiful, artstyle very good,
BUT the story was idiotic as ever. I hate the X with a passion, Chadbird and Wisebird were both wasted in one game, the end with X-ifiied Wisebird didnt make any sense at all, another planet explodes which is just a boring cliche in the series right now, old lore was retconned.
AND it was still to linear and too short. Way too short.
It was cool but I hate what Mercury steam did to castlevania so its a shit game
Yall are screaming about gay bears, but Mercury steam literally killed castlevania and got away with it, when they go bankrupt i'll tap dance on their grave
Fantastic game. I get why people complain about the railroading but it's still in my Top 3, with prime and Super. I hope Mercury Steam keeps doing Metroid games with Nintendo.
This reminds me that I need to go back and finish this but I feel like I’ll have no idea what I still need to do
>The map is so helpful that it either defeats the purpose of Metroidvanias or highlights how their ideas are fundamentally flawed
>It's also one of the best action platformers I've ever played so whatever
How have you guys not figured out that replying to ACgay only makes the problem worse.
Shut the frick up and stop giving him attention. You aren’t the special snowflake that will get him to change his mind.
See
It doesn’t matter, the creature will shit up the thread no matter what. We could all collectively ignore it and it will samegay the thread to bump limit anyway. The only way to have a good Metroid thread is to wait for it to go to sleep or be preoccupied with a Zelda or Xenoblade thread. One would have hoped AC6 being good would have tamed the tard, but it’s incapable of feeling joy.
I thought that paying 60 dollarydoos for 8 hours of bland slop with repetitive QTEs is unbelievably moronic.
Good thing I pirated the shit out of it.
Huh why did the IP count not go up...
Beats me, even if I did post in this thread before, I'm in a completely different location now. Maybe someone on the same public wifi posted here as well.
It was great, and it being the most successful metroid title secures more mercurysteam KINO in the future.
Great story and movement, fun gameplay. Nice that they built some sequence breaks into the game. However, the music sucked ass. Also, the handholding and forced forward progress was kind of a bummer. I know people complain about backtracking, but I like having the entire map open to backtrack in this game rather than being railroaded from portal to portal with the path behind me always closing. I want to get lost like in super metroid.
>s-shes too agile and actiony!!!
>said the homosexual about the mutant in the flying alien death machine armor
It wasn't that good and the fact that people think it was is a sign of how far modern gamers have fallen.
Or maybe metroidgays are so desperate they'll take anything shat out onto their plates.
I love how Samus has less than no respect for Kraid. This boss fight is basically her just styling on some punk trying to take a swing at her.
Soulless
Holy sovl
The final boss was fun as frick
can't believe its already been two years
it's decent
I'd switch fusion with the two mercury gimmick games. But in reality a middling Metroid game is better than most other games. I just dont like the new direction of the latest 2D
fusion's level design and exploratory elements are inferior to SR/dread and it has more rehashed abilities despite SR being a remake, so no
>fusion's level design and exploratory elements are inferior to SR/dread
Disagree, felt like I explored more on my own terms in fusion despite being ordered around than in the new games. It's a level design thing. Rehashing abilities are kind of a staple in Metroid.
>rehashing abilities is a staple in metroid
not every single ability being the same minus one (diffusion Missiles).
>level design thing
yeah fusion is a glorified hallway. dread and sr are fairly linear as metroid games go but those game have more variation in progression, especially dread with its sequence breaking options.
i would legit lift up every game one tier
except corruption
and move other m one down
holy shit that anon was right, acgay really does argue with himself. how does a human being let themselves reach this kind of low?
I like storm missile and flash shift I hope they bring those abilities back in metroid 6
Flash Shift is the hypest thing. It's like, frick it, let's just give her an anime flash step. Amazing.
>I hope they bring those abilities back in metroid 6
Same, but I also want to see it somehow be worked into the 3D titles as well.
prime already had them, the basic side dash and seeker missiles
Good, very good. Only complaint is that the EMMI:s should either have been scrapped or been active across them map. Turning them into formulaic encounters was pretty uninteresting. Half of the game you should be running from them, and then you slowly turn the tide in the later half.
Hunters remake when
It was ok, but I lost my patience at the end and just watched the last boss on youtube.
I just want more 2D metroidvanias.
EMMI's where SHIT, they tried to recreate SAX but they never allowed you to have a moment where you finally defeated one with your abilities.
"Yea they're made of magical space metal and you can't defeat them even at full power, cause you just can't ok, find the magic laser and a big hallway."
solid 7.5/10
I just hope we're not in for another decade or two of 2D remakes. I'd be fine with original games that are self-contained from this point on.
too linear
hollow knight and souls game provide more exploration reminisant of super metroid
Hollow knight has 0/10 combat, a real issue for a game that is this combat focused.
ok enjoy your lame ass double jump upgrade. definitely some unique and interesting upgrades in good ol hk
Anon, doesn't Dread literally give you a double jump? And then they realized that it sucked, so you get space jump maybe a few minutes later? Jog my memory, will you?
That's not even new to Dread. Incidentally, the Space Jump in Prime is fricking great, cause when you first get it, the world immediately opens up far wider than with any other upgrade up to that point.
The space jump in echos is probably the best iteration, simply because it's a little more limited than in other installments. You still have to utilize parkour since it's not a "get out of platforming free" card. Even the screw attack was much better because it was limited, even though it was useful.
The water makes it an actually interesting platforming challenge, HK is just shit.
And where is the bug space jump?
if you guys havent tried the dread randomizer, I highly recommend it.
I cant do insane glitches in this game, but I had fun with the easy mode randomizer settings
Shit, unobvious puzzles, unintuitive, too difficult artificially.
Anyways trans rights, support my "daughter" !
>jumps and shoots like he's playing megaman
>vtubers could clear the game
>he couldn't
>oh cool a metroid thread
>acgay thread
Pass.
The name "Dread" carried an enormous expectation and hype behind.
While not perfect, it lived up to those hopes.
This. Dread was a damn good game, which is all I was asking for.
You know what else is nice? The fact it got lots of new people interested in Metroid. Newbies were actually going back and playing the previous titles. Did my heart a lot of good there. Also, the bread memes are cute.
what the frick
What is this from
Reminder Mercury steam would make a fanfiction metroid far worse than other M if Nintendo didnt have a noose around their necks and make them balance on a tightrope.
They would have made metroid city, several alien race party members including kraid and riddley but now they are just fat green and skinny purple humanoids that are comic relief, stealth takedowns and cover shooting, dlc story where samus kills all chozo, baby metroid revived, shinespark is now a cutscene button you can only use on specific launch pads.
You think im crazy but look at Lords of shadow, the end of that game has OC belmont orgasming into satans ass, no joke
