cash grab, wonder what our parents thought when we asked them to buy the same game again because it lets you start with a different monster? all three games are like $100 dollars together, in 90s money!

        >wonder what our parents thought when we asked them to buy the same game again
unless you told them it was the same game they would have no fricking idea. i got both crystal and emerald for my birthday after i knew yellow was the same thing. i didn't have the heart to tell them they wasted their money

    DiaPer is pretty bad for a mainline game, but I'm sure there's a spin-off that's 10x worse.

Diamond and and Pearl are better than Diamond and Perl in every way.

What is really fricked up is that BDSP is tons better than the base game of DP.

It's this. Gen 4 is genuinely unplayable, gen 5 is barely better.

I argue 3 because it was just such a downgrade from 2 in almost every way except pixel count.

You mean spin offs included? what do you mean by non mainline?
Anyway, if main games only, definitively XY.
If spin offs, nothing beats pokemon dash in shittiness.

All the games are living off the glory of the first games but they have clearly begun degrading dangerously since becoming 3D so the answer is whatever the newest game is.

My tier list is kinda unique, posting here for context. Worst is LGPE, because to me it is completely skippable and it offers nothing compared to the original RB or FRLG outside local co-op, and even then it takes away wild battling and is even easier than those games, so it's a net loss. Every other game in the not worth playing tier, I'd rather play before LGPE.
Even a weak remake like BDSP to me is better, because it is still doing everything DP did at the very least.

Black/White 2 is the only one in worth playing I haven't played. I did play White when it came out so I wasn't interested in playing the same region but in reverse.

LGPE strength is it's visuals. it offers the fully fleshed out world the original developers WISHED they could have made all those years ago. you can tell there's a lot of love and soul put into the aesthetics of the region.

BDSP removes a bunch of shit though. No secret bases in underground, contests are made considerably worse, no GTS, the big selling point of DP in the first place.
Now, some people might not care about any of that, that's fine, but to me, it's hard to argue that they're even as good as DP. (Though to be fair, most of the things that it cut are online stuff, which means you have very limited availability for them in DP either nowadays)
Is Crystal really different enough from GS to warrant playing as well?
Outside of that, I think this is perfectly accurate (And those aren't even really wrong, so)

        >Is Crystal really different enough from GS to warrant playing as well?
Good question. I suppose it's the same as Yellow, but I let my personal nostalgia for Crystal treat it differently.
Main point of including GSC is that just like with FRLG I think there's value in playing the originals over the remakes. But if you played GS then C would not be worth playing and vice-versa, at least, unless you want to replay gen 2.

The only real answer is gen 7 because of how much it removed for absolutely no reason.
    >Hordes? Gone
    >triples? Gone
    >Rotations? Gone
    >powers? Gone in SM and replaced by slot rng bullshit in USM
    >National Dex? Gone
    >super training? Gone
    >Amie minigames? Gone
It was gutted like a fish and was left incomplete. The only redeeming part of gen 7 was that it was the last gen to have all the pokemon.

I will say the D/P remakes are the only game I actively regretted buying
There have been problems with the other ones but I always felt like I had enough fun for it to be worth it, not this time

Pokémon Ranger only exist to make sure the parents would have to buy a new nintendo DS.

If we're including non-mainline, probably one of the shit spinoffs like Trozei or that shitty racing game on the DS.

If we're talking mainline, RGBY without fricking question.

Unironically, especially when objectively better options (FRLG, LGPE) exist. You only liked them as a kid because they were all that existed. You only like them now because you're a moronic contrarian.

Granted I only played up until gen 6, but I'd probably say R/S, or D/P, just because the 3rd version given in those gens is so definitive there is less than no reason to play them outside of extremely specific circumstances (getting bonus disc/Channel Jirachi, record mix eon ticket to Emerald, Glameow/Skunky for a full dex, pokemon ranch mew). And because you're playing the campaign of an inferior version for such a select few pokemon, it just makes you resent having to play them even more. G/S fall into this a bit as well, but at least crystal isn't that much better to completely invalidate G/S (outside of battle tower and getting both box legendaries).

      Anonymous

You can get both legendaries in G/S. Crystal only has the move tutor, battle tower, and early phanpy. But no mareep
