How do we feel about it?
I personally think it's the best one after A2MR. The only things that stop it from being the best one all around are the visuals and the music.

ACgay thread
Music in Dread is one of the weakest points
It was almost perfect. The biggest mistake however was killing Ravenbeak. He should've been a recurring villian.
There's literally 0 reason to not bring him back.
They brought back Ridley like 50 times despite being killed over and over.
>we
The music isn't good for a casual listen but when you're playing the game it usually sets the mood pretty well. I'm glad it was successful and I was surprised at just how much Mercury Steam got right but part of why it was so good is just how refreshing it after such a lengthy Metroid drought. I don't think the next game will have a similar reception if it's too similar to this one.
Moving feels fun and the story and characters were surprisingly good and it shocked me how they followed up on Fusion, but the environments were boring to look at and the soundtrack is almost non-existent and I think with the exception of the few developer intended skips the game is way too linear with little exploration and the copy paste bosses sucked and I don't know why Kraid was there. Kraid's area also pissed me off because he sinks into that lava or whatever and I spent the entire game thinking there was going to be a whole area down there or even a secret boss fight against Kraid again, but it was like 1 tile.
If you removed the story the game would be entirely forgettable.
Very good summary.
Personally the only thing I would add is the checking in with the AI sucks. I didn't like it in other games, and I don't like it in this one. Samus should just be solo in an alien world for it to feel more immersive. It was an interesting twist to start at the bottom and work back up, but I don't think it was necessary. The teleportation tech was cool, but I think it enables making the map too complicated. Some rooms are just not fun to traverse through, and plotting a course all the way across the world was irritating for how long it took to decide, given the number of routes.
I don't know why they just can't expand on the Super Metroid / Prime formula. Worlds can be so much larger than ever before, but they just become more efficient with small space. It's very Japanese. Even Mario games suffer from this I think. There never feels like there's a chance to just open up and let the powers rip. They cheese it with her super beam at the very end, but you're literally just standing there holding a button, not flexing the skills you developed from playing the game.
Yeah the warping definitely felt like a crutch to cover the fact that the game was designed in a chronological fashion. Going backwards through certain parts felt terrible.
I enjoyed it outside of the Emmi areas which I didn't feel like added much, I would have like them more of SA-X level threat that roams the map area
EMMIs disappointed me after they said one of their reasons for waiting so damned long to make Dread was for "chasing" AI to get good enough that they could do what they wanted, and SA-X and the Chozodia segment of Zero Mission were beta tests for it. I don't think EMMIs do anything that couldn't have been done on the GBA or DS.
The SA-X didn't roam anything, it had set appearances that never changed and once you were done with them it never shows up again until the next set appearance.
It's average at best. Controls feel smooth, but the simplistic level design and railroading are insulting, and the atmosphere (normally a strong point of Metroid games) is practically nonexistent. It's like a demake of Fusion.
Wow, you sure beat the first phase of that fight on Rookie.
It was nice to see a good Metroid game released after Other M that wasn't a remake
>demake
aka "I am trolling, ignore me"
>AM2R
thread and opinion discarded
Why are people so salty that people like AM2R?
It's just not a good game. It feels like a diamond dozen indie hollowvania instead of an actual Metroid game.
Worst b8 i've ever read on the site.
Its canon in my mind. Samus Returns is the non-canon game since its not like Metroid 2 at all.
>Its canon in my mind
LMAO fricking cringe
>Samus Returns is the non-canon game since its not like Metroid 2 at all
Samus Returns is more similar to Metroid II than am2r and no amount crying is ever going to change that.
Samus Returns has a completely different map than M2.
I'm tired of replying to this b8.
>Samus Returns has a completely different map than M2
And it's still more similar than your garbage fanfiction. Tired of having to say this to you morons.
So you've never played M2 or AM2R.
why are you acting like Metroid 2 has an insane thought provoking story to begin with? It's just Samus wipes out all the Metroid on the planet but one.
And that was perfect. gayus morons completely shits all over it by ruining the story, shoving in gayley, and destroying the atmosphere and gameplay of the original.
>It's just not a good game.
I only respect this opinion from people that say that Metroid 2 and every version of it are bad games. I disagree, but I can at least respect it, because the premise itself is flawed.
>diamond dozen
Good bait
Because It's cringe fanfiction.
its better than samus returns and the original metroid 2
soooooooo...?
At least that "cringe fanfiction" had the good sense to not mindlessly shoehorn Ridley into the game for no reason other than fanservice.
>b-but it isn't metroid unless the purple space dragon shows up!
I, and Metroid Dread, disagree with you. You don't want a refreshing experience. You just want the same thing rehashed over and over again.
>people are still trooning out over Ridley in Metroid II
It showed the Pirates were still determined to use the Metroids, how Ridley knew to go to the Ceres Space Station, and definitively connected the Prime games to the rest of the series.
>over Ridley in Metroid II
Ridley wasn't in Metroid II.
He was on the 3ds remake.
You know, the shit not many play because amr2 is just much better.
>He was on the 3ds remake
Which is not named Metroid II.
Try to avoid looking stupid.
It's a remake of II. Stop sperging out like a shrieking girl.
>It's a remake of II
No it isn't.
It isn't anything remotely like Metroid II.
Its a completely different game.
>Try to avoid looking stupid.
The irony of this post.
>Ridley wasn't in Metroid II
A flying torizo wasn't in it either but you gays have no problems with it so why cry over ridley?
I don't recall the flying torizo being rehashed in every single Metroid game.
Do Bowser, Eggman, Ganon, and Wily also sends you into fits of hysteria?
Ganon isn't actually in every single game.
Not that guy btw.
AM2R is perfect. Samus Returns is troony homosexual garbage. Indies win again.
It also makes Samus look like a moron for not killing him when she had the chance. She willingly led him to the last metroid, and then was shocked when it got taken, so it portrays her as a giant idiot.
So it's like several other points throughout the franchise where she does something incredibly stupid, yet I never see anyone blasting their asses in rage over them.
I blast ass over it all the time. It's why I hate any semblance of story focus in Metroid. If you're gonna have plotholes, then don't make a story focus. I can excuse tons of plot inconsistencies in a Mario game because I don't get locked in a mandatory cinematic monologue during elevator trips, for instance. He doesn't put emphasis on the dumb plot, so neither do I.
Mario sucks cause they don't give a shit about canon at all to a point that their official stance is there is no canon
>Mario sucks because it cares about being a video game instead of a marvel movie
you're like one of those idiots that blows off story in video games and goes in internet comment sections saying crap like "imagine playing X for the story"
sorry I actually give a crap about story cohesion and lore in most media
why u wanna canon in a fricking mario video game
Anyways the canon is in the movie moron
no it's fricking not
who remembers the Kong army?
besides that they're going to break their own canon in less than 5 years tops
So then that makes prime a shit game because ridley comes back?
prime takes place before metroid 2
And? It also makes Samus look like a moron for not killing him when she had the chance.
understandable in prime because she didn't know he'd come back. Unless you mean killing him in prime 1 when he drops down the cliff
Prime is shit no matter what.
At least in prime, it makes sense to assume that Ridley died. He quite literally gets his body ripped to shreds and then falls into a chasm to explode violently. In Samus Returns he just has some rocks fall on him. Come on, if you're gonna argue the merits of having a deep and impactful story, at least make it believable.
When they usurp a game they have no right being in, yes they do. Like in Twilight Princess, or nu-Paper Mario. Do you know how obnoxious Mega Man x became, when it was clear that they were never gonna move away from having Sigma as le epic final boss? X8 was the only one that tried having something to shake up the tedium with Lumine. Also, big credit for the Legends series for not rehashing Wily or Sigma or any previous final boss.
Ridley didn't usurp anything, Samus still accomplished her mission by wiping out Queen Metroid and her species except for the larva and he had no part of that.
Ridley stole the status of final boss from Queen Metroid, which was something she deserved to have, being the mother of these dangerous life sucking energy jellyfish. When you relegate her to just another mid tier enemy, just so you can jerk off to Ridley AGAIN, you diminish the inherent danger of the metroid species. Again going back to Twilight Princess, you could've built up Zant as this epic villain, and you could even still have him suffer from his mental breakdown mid-fight. But nooooo, now he's just yet another pawn in Ganon's scheme, so we can jerk off over how le heckin epic chungus he is.
Dude ganondorf is revealed to be behind everything like half way through twilight princess if you're actually paying attention.
Which is the dumbest twist ever. In games like OOT and LTTP, we pretty much immediately know about Ganon because he's the central villain in both games. TP was building up Zant to be the final boss, but then they go and drop him to jerk off Ganon some more. Man, I can just imagine this board's reaction to a game like Majora's Mask.
>wtf where's ganon?
>why aren't we using the master sword?
>this stupid shovelware ruined Zelda! why aren't we collecting triforce pieces?
>this is too original, I need muh comfort zone!
>In games like OOT and LTTP, we pretty much immediately know about Ganon
Ganon isn't even mentioned until Dark World in lttp.
The imprisoning war in the intro mentions that evil power began to flow from the golden land, and aghanim is not implied to be the one behind it. He may have a small hand in it, but it's clear that he's serving a more evil power. We don't get anywhere near this level of foreshadowing in TP.
>evil power began to flow from the golden land
Doesn't mention Ganon at all tho.
It could have been a completely different villain.
Just playing double's advocate here.
Hell, I haven't even played normal lttp in a decade or more.
>doesn't mention Ganon
You sure?
Zant ended up being lame once the mask was off. From dark and mysterious to goofy and cartoony.
and on top of that acting like ridley is there every three seconds is fricking insane when there was a 13 year gap since the last 2D metroid game (zero mission) and 7 years since other m
So why do you insist that Ridley be put into every single game? Why can't we take a break?
Also, that would make you a giant hypocrite for liking Dread, since it doesn't have Ridley. Either Dread is shit for excluding him, or you have to acknowledge that it's okay to take a break from him.
>IF YOU THIS THEN YOU HAVE TO THAT OTHERWISE MY NARRATIVE OF YOU DOESN'T WORK AND I WILL BE VERY RUDE TO YOU!!!
Ridley's appearance in Returns works. His absence in Dread also works. Stop being such a fricking troony sperg over a video game character. Christ, if Ridley had been in Prime 2 as originally planned would you have cut open your own throat in a rage?
>Christ, if Ridley had been in Prime 2 as originally planned would you have cut open your own throat in a rage?
Yes, because it means they're unoriginal and need to constantly rely on tired out gimmicks. Even Mario gets a break from Bowser, Link gets a break from ganon. Why can't Samus go 5 seconds without Barney the space dragon constantly on her case?
>because it means they're unoriginal and need to constantly rely on tired out gimmicks
You mean like having the Space Jump, Morph Ball, Bomb, Power Bomb, Plasma Beam, Charge Beam, Varia Suit, Ice Beam, Missiles, Super Missiles, etc in every single game?
>Plasma Beam
>Ice Beam
Metroid Prime 2 didn't have those. And its the best Metroid Prime game.
Prime 2 is second-most hated Metroid game after Other M.
>source
>Dude trust me bro!
I replayed the games a year ago and can confirm 2 is my least liked. Was never a big fan of it but replaying it for the 3rd or 4th time confirmed it. It has terrific visuals and badass looking suits but the gameplay and world variety is nowhere as good as the first Prime.
Good for you but that is not the general opinion.
Prime 2 is the highest rated metroid game aside from the 2 juggernauts super/prime 1
Prime 2 is my favorite game of all time but..
>dark beam is the ice beam
>light beam is plasma beam on steroids with a shotgun charge shot
you only wish Nintendo made Metroid games half as good as AM2R
Based. Always remind AM2morons they aren't welcome in Metroid threads.
frick you AM2R the GOAT
am2r is superior to samus returns
You should try Super Metroid sometime.
A solid 7/10 game. Wouldn't ever replay it tho.
Extremely damn good. Not perfect, but I can overlook its flaws for what it achieves. Music is among the franchise's weakest as already mentioned, areas can feel a bit basic at times, and some EMMI zones were a bit too controlled in design even if I get the intent. Game is still worth it for its amazing controls and movement, the mostly really fun boss design, and the story. Agree as well the atmosphere could have benefited from a bit more background storytelling, but I feel that's something largely escalated by the series having such a high bar to follow on that.
best 2D metroid after super and in the series top 3 alongside prime, the gameplay is far above every other title in the genre and homosexuals complaining about linearity just betray their complete lack of curiosity and skills, disregard immediately
the visuals arent amazing, but i respect that they prioritized the 60 fps and that they chose an artstyle in those constraints. this is what I prefer 100% of the time. I do not normally play tendie games because I know they run like ass.
clearly, this is a red flag that nintendo devs still have to make significant sacrifices after all these years. and what is even worse is that the next nintendo console will probably be another tablet piece of shit switch 2.
but the music is definitely a shame, I would have preferred some bangers for once instead of more moody ambiance, I think this series almost has too much of that. I think they can take some notes from the prime games, which had music that fit the environments but also felt somewhat energetic but still kind of ominous with low chanting
oh yea one more complaint about hardware
im getting sick of the load screens. I used to think it was because they were handholding us and didnt trust us to know where to go, but its clearly to cut down on loading. even with emulating its a pain.
8/10 game.
Major flaw is music is forgettable (A crying shame for a Metroid game) and a first playthrough of the game is very linear. What saves the latter flaw is the ability to sequence break the game which does give more options on what you want to do first and when done does help pace the game to a more traditional Metroidvania. But the game does push you to take the baby moron route first which humorously still didn't help with some people being utterly brain dead with these sort of games.
>music is forgettable (A crying shame for a Metroid game)
I don't get this. Metroid OST's have always been mediocre where they only have a few good tracks with the rest being forgettable. Only Metroid game with a good OST is the NES Metroid.
Phendrana Drifts, Torvus Bog Subterranean, Skytown says hi.
oh wow three tracks you really showed me
homosexual, we could send you the entire god damn ost and it wouldnt matter. you just have shit tastes. stay filtered
you dont deserve good music, you clearly cannot appreciate it. sorry for your loss.
Looks like shit, EMMIs are awful, the worst example of modern soundtracks, and not being on a planet is getting tiring too. It plays okay outside that but you have to wonder why it's so much worse than the old games on ancient hardware.
>not being on a planet is getting tiring too
this man literally did not play the game. the planet is named zdr
Fantastic fricking game, people who don't like it are fricking pussies who thinks Super is the be all, end all for the series, just because of sequence breaks (which Dread also has, btw).
World-class game, don't know how the frick MercurySteam managed to make it.
I liked it.
>B-B-BUT YOU CANT EVEN GET THE ITEMS IN ANY ORDER YOU WANT OR DEFEAT THE BOSSES IN REVERSE
Sequence breaking is the entire reason Metroid is Metroid. Remove that and you might as well not call it Metroid.
This is an incomplete take
Sequence breaking is not what makes a metroid game metroid unless its in a way that is technically doable and doesn't rely on bugs or unintended interactions
You should try Dread then, they've found some pretty amazing sequence breaks over the years.
Now that Samus is an ungodly amalgamation of human, chozo, metroid and maybe X and Phazon which creature, organism and/or dangerous object in the galaxy is the best candidate to breed with her? Asking for science and I am not a pirate or practice any sort of illegal activity vying for power over the galaxy at all.
Captain Falcon
I do not understand how this series handles dna
it should be like syringe injections, but the series handles it like its a fricking surgery. the cutscene with big bird highlighted his hand as if he was fricking amputating it. dna does not matter what part you take it from and why was samus hooked up to tubes in her back?
if the fricking emmi poke samus and take a sample of her metroid dna, it could be from anywhere in her body and she does not "lose" it. it is now every cell in her fricking body
why is dna written in the story like its a fricking tumor that can be ripped away
I think the EMMIs were gonna kill her anyways whether by purposeful design or not, the GF has wanted Samus at least a little dead since Fusion with foiling the chances for an SA-X army and jettisoning the Metroid program off into SR-388's surface
In both Other M and Fusion it's a splinter/secret faction of the GF, not the GF itself. The Japanese version of Fusion explicitly explained it, the American localization changed it for some homosexual reason.
I imagine it got changed because it makes way less sense to a Western viewer than just "the GF has a secret lab and secret programs."
What? Plenty of Western media has the "splinter faction of group doing evil things" plot, hell the Aliens franchise, which inspired Metroid, does this repeatedly.
The chozo are hyper ultra omega giga genetic geniuses that can cram a fully living and functional power suit inside "dna". They can also develop killer jellyfish that drains "lifeforce" whatever it is with their genetic skills.
They also modified genetically Sammy so that she could survive and grow into an Amazon to handle Zebes.
The chozo's DNA frickery is straight bullshit magic voodoo.
The X infection was handled like syringe injections, except that they told us that Sammy got a metroid "vaccine" instead of gene therapy or something like that, because vaccines don't suddenly attach to your DNA and start deleting foreign bodies out of nowhere like she was grafted the soul of a fricking vampire. The X cloning her suit is ok because the suit is DNA bullshit and they copy DNA. The EMMI killing Samus is just their function, they are supposed to punch through hyperbeasts that can take plasma to the face, of course they would have a power drill to extract material, them being more killer-happy is probably because of Raven b***h. Yeah he could and probably already had more DNA samples from Sammy's hair or veganal discharge who cares, the point of the EMMI gauntlet was to see how she would develop her metroid autism and if she was worthy of being replicated.
Anything the Chozo does is ridiculously far from normal science, those fricks can literally ascend as ghosts and possess their own corpses as shown in prime and dread, these homies aren't dealing with normal DNA science.
kusoge
It‘s alright, never felt like replaying it. Sequel needs to improve a lot
It's pretty good. I don't like how it restricts you from exploring, and the emmi bits are pretty annoying, but it overall ranks third below fusion and am2r for me.
It was decent.
Awesome story connection to fusion, some fun boss fights and sequence breaks.
It just doesn't reach the heights that Prime 1 and 2 or even zero mission do though.
I liked the game, even the robots right up to the last stretch of the game where they spammed the same fricking bosses you already fought over & over again. It was already too much repetition before that but they just went overboard. Like 15 minutes ago I just fought all these these same guys which was already multiple times by that point.
Oh and I fricked hated that the aim button didn't lock you into place if you moved the stick anything lower than 45 degrees causing samus to run forward like a moron, pretty much avoided aiming wherever possible because of that & just jump fired. The game was also felt pretty linear but I didn't mind.
Why do metroid gays like ridley so much he bearly has anything interesting going for him as a character and his bosfights aren't even that good in most of the games he's in
>anon gets filtered by his super Metroid fight
>runs to Ganker to shit talk him
Wait, there are people out there that lose to Ridley in Super? He's a god damn pushover. Just super missile him till he dies.
you would be amazed how bad this generation is at platformers because they died out
I made my friend who grew up with pc shooters play super metroid, and keep in mind this guy has never even touched a mario game. he had to retry the escape sequence like 6 times and he barely made it with like 15 seconds to spare without saving the animals
the rise of multiplayer focused games have had an irreversible effect on an entire generation of gamers. the closest thing they have is like...genshin impact and fortnite. kids have a switch but they really playing platformers as much
While I agree with your post that zoomers are morons, Genshin Impact is a great game.
i wanted to give it a fair shake so bad but i was just thoroughly and utterly put off by the introduction to gliding, they copied everything else about how breath of the wild feels + pasted an action game on top of it for combat but they shat it so fricking bad with its glider equivalent
I never played Breath of the Wild because outside of Metroid, frick nintendo.
But I bet Genshin is better.
>Sociopath pirate who just does whatever he wants for shits and giggles
>Kills MC parents cause he was in the neighborhood and just figured why not
>Years later kills MC adoptive parents cause he wanted to crash their place
>Despite being feared leader would rather be the second in command cause he doesn't want to actually lead and just wanna kill more people
I think he's neat and if Nintendo ever bothered to develop him more he has the potential of being the vidya counterpart of Judge Holden.
most people are not smashgay brainlets who want ridley in every game
I think most of us understand that ridley's played his part in the story and that story was told. he doesnt need to keep coming back in some dumb cringy way like samus returns
hate to break it to you but that was actually the best part of that game.
>love metroid
>want to use a metroid related nickname for ut
>samus is a chick
>ridley it is.
been using this shit since 2004 and i dont give a frick.
It's okay, had fun but has some flaws
probably rank it
Fusion>Super>ZM>Dread>AM2R>SR
>paths close off to direct you toward where you actually need to go
I was fine with this.
>paths remain closed forever and make backtracking more tedious long after they blockades served their purpose
This however could have been improved.
Really fricking good.
I recently replayed it with a soundtrack mod and it slapped extremely hard.
>it slapped extremely hard.
The frick does this even mean?
God I hate zoomers.
>zoomer
Im 31 you moronic NIGLET.
Thats actually a really good shot of the game.
Then shame on you for using zoomer lingo.
Literally have a nice day homosexual.
Enjoy being a sheltered terminally online dweeb, homosexual.
Raven Beak for Smash.
Sorry to break your world view but I go out with friends pretty constantly.
Playing d&d with them tomorrow.
>played d&d
You literally can't call anyone anything, nerd homosexual.
Going out and interacting with other people is better than what you do.
You don't know what i do and my first interaction with your nerdy ass was you crying about me saying something slapped.
Go back to playing your nerdy ass rpg homosexualry shit.
>You don't know what i do
I know you are on Ganker in a Metroid thread so I know you are just as nerdy as i am.
Prove me wrong. You can't.
Metroid is literally the last videogame franchise i still care about.
I barely play anything else anymore.
>DnD playing sperg seethes because he is out of touch with extremely common slang
You’re the bigger loser by far
>having a life makes you a bigger loser
Uh huh sure man.
Keep coping tho.
>playing DnD is having a life
Lmao, and I’m nta, loser
>social interaction with friends is not a life
Just keep digging that hole deeper.
>playing nerdy rpg slop with likely a bunch of socially awkward morons
>life
You reek of those redditors that collect funko pops, cry about toxic masculinity while being a literal 30+ year old teenager.
>with likely a bunch of socially awkward morons
I see we've moved onto projection.
>game greatly associated with nerds, weirdos and homosexuals
>projection
Just stop posting, you whine about an extremely common slang that is used by anyone that isn't a sheltered nerd sperg.
>game greatly associated with nerds, weirdos and homosexuals
D&D hasn't been that way for like 10+ years.
Its mainstream as frick now thanks to twitch and Critical Role.
I haven't met a single person that plays that shit that isn't a nerdy weirdo.
There are likely "normies" that play it, but judging by your moronic attitude, you're for sure one of the weirdos.
>I haven't met a single person that plays that shit
That's because you dont leave the house.
You can't even read, moron.
I can read that you look just like the pic you posted.
moron, get out of here.
Cope.
You will always be a failure.
Does making fun of mentally ill schizos like him make you feel good?
Kinda?
Its just something to do while playing Symphony of the Night rando.
>coming from the nerd that plays dungeons and dildos, can't read, lost the argument completely and has "cope' as his reply
You're a failure anon, no one likes you.
You even argue like a black.
Honestly the music is the weakest link of the game. Its effective for building atmosphere ambience but it doesn't really have any staying power. I can't remember a single track.
Super>Dread=Samus Returns>Zero Mission>Fusion
>Dread=Samus Returns
Frick off with this moronic opinion.
The only game worse than it is Fusion. Metroid fans were so desperate for anything they fell on this slop like staving pigs on a carcass.
It's not a bad game at all. It's at least a 7/10, but the fans get way too defensive regarding criticism. Like no joke, I've been called a snoy troony because I wanted less loading times between major sections of the game, and I felt that 20 seconds was too much. Also, the parries are too focused on spectacle and don't have enough gameplay in them.
hey ACgay
>no argument
>ACgay webm
ironic that you b***h about cinematics in Nintendo games when Armored Core 6 has 6 HOURS of cutscenes
That video was already deboonked. try again.
Yes, that's exactly the problem. It's fallen into stale repetition making people constantly collect the same powerups over and over and over again. Infact Prime 2 had the good sense to at least start us off with some of our gear beforehand, while introducing new items that had new functions. After 30 years, the repetition needs to be shaken up.
and Other M
you think 1 second of loading is too much
same with one second of cutscenes
it's alright
biggest problem is just how forgettable the music is. it might be alright in the moment but it leaves no lasting impression on the player, only immediately being a service to the atmosphere. super metroid had some moody/atmospheric songs too (maridia and brinstar depths immediately coming to mind), but i can still remember almost exactly how they play in my mind
So what are the odds we will get another Mercury Steam Metroid game before we get Prime 4.
Why are powerbombs and the upgrades even in the game? You get them literally 5 minutes before the final boss.
>The only things that stop it from being the best one all around are the visuals and the music
And the story. And the control scheme. And the level design.
Are we seriously back to pretending this game isn't extremely mediocre?
>filtered by the controls
No one cares about the opinions of idiots
Sure thing pal. Nice argument.
Works on my machine, since I’m not an idiot with motor skill issues
Why do Metroid threads always attract the worst this board has to offer? Seriously it seems like ever since Other M these threads have gone head first into the gutter.
Excellent game. Only issues were reused bosses, samey emmi environments, rushed powerup pacing at the end, and a mediocre ost. Very excited for future games
pros
>amazingly fluid movement and combat
>60fps
>exciting bosses, didn't baby down difficulty (although this was mitigated by restarting outside the room)
>exposed that david jaffe homosexual
cons
>music
>railroading
>far too much exposition, they fell for the fusion meme, should have been more like super/prime
>far too much exposition
Sure you aren't not mistaking Dread for Other M?
ACgay thinks any exposition is too much
There's nothing wrong with that stance.
>ACgay sucking his own dick
>actually, unironically arguing for metroid to be stuffed with endless exposition
>if you disagree with my shitposting you unironically want Metroid to be like Other M
dumbass
Reminder that ACgay has been doing this shtick nonstop and without variation for the last 13 years. Other M utterly destroyed his brain.
and it's impossible to argue with him.
He's like the Barry of Metroid threads
>you're like one of those idiots that blows off story in video games and goes in internet comment sections saying crap like "imagine playing X for the story"
Imagine going into an interactive medium and then throwing away all sense of interaction because "otherwise the story might be affected".
no idea what games you're specifically talking about but I can tell you plenty of series don't give two shits about their own lore in previous entries. If they cared then there's be a lot less plot holes in them.
Was I the only one who was slow to catch Adam was really Raven? I was suspicious once Adam stopped using the term lady and was sucking Raven's dick about how strong he was.
A lot of people didn't catch onto that.
was it happening through the game?i only noticed it towards the end with like right before you fight him unless thats when you were refering to
What did "Adam" never say to you after you landed on ZDR?
I sort of got spoiled by Ganker with "he doesn't know" replies when I posted about how much Adam was sucking Raven's dick whenever Samus talked to the AI.
so did samus anon
>How do we feel about it?
it's a 7/10
Pros:
-excellent combat, best 2D metroid has ever been. Parries are still too big of a factor but flash shift makes fights way more fun
-great movement, aside from the lack of same side walljumping (RIP) samus controls wonderfully
-good boss design
-paced well, little to no filler
-story held back from sakamoto's moronation from the previous metroid games...until the last 20 minutes
-fun to find sequence breaks
cons:
-environments don't stand out, the schizophrenic design of jumping through cold, hot, emmi, and normal zones means no area stands out, there are also two chozo "ruin" areas. It doesn't help that constant teleporters/trams/elevators are thrown into the mix
-railroading, even with sequence breaks in place, it's limited in what you can do because the game has "checks" to make sure you hit certain story beats how it wants you do
-EMMI are a shitty concept, stealth and chase was cute with SA-X when it was a few 15 second encounters but it's obnoxious here by the time you get to the third EMMI, it doesn't help that it's hard to "dread" these things when you just respawn almost at the same place you died
-poor OST, I don't think I need to explain this one
-lack of good new upgrades, the only good one is flash shift. Cloak was largely used for a mechanic that shouldn't have been in the game, spin boost and cross bombs are the definition of filler abilities, spider crawl and storm missiles are slight variations of existing upgrades from the past
-uninspired regular enemy designs
How kino is Dread? I loved Fusion and Zero Mission, I bought Prime remastered last week and this coming Wednesday I'm finally go gonna pick up my OLED switch.
I'd you liked fusion you'll probably like dread
the game is good and I hope for a sequel someday
I literally can't remember a single thing about this game other than the EMMI encounters being interested at the start but getting tiresome very quickly and the Kraid fight.
not even Chad RavenBeak?
The one and only complaint I have with it is that the EMMI parry timings shouldn't have been randomized because it made the EMMI zones feel annoyingly trial-and-errory on a first playthrough since it was very easy to accidentally corner yourself at which point it's over. Still a 9/10 game though.
>EMMI parry timings shouldn't have been randomized
Then there would be no real threat or sense of "Dread".
Honestly there should have been a proper boss fight against the final Emmi.
game was rushed
There isn't anyway with re-spawning right outside their doors, if they wanted to prioritize convenience over actual dread and fear they should have gone all the way
Really stupid all or nothing perspective. You should have just been more aware of your surroundings and planned places to loop EMMis or phantom cloak
If they wanted dread all seven EMMIs should have been crawling all over the areas and you'd have no idea which one or where you'd run into them.
Yes there is unless you think you can pull off a 3 frame parry (or whatever ridiculously short window it actually is) multiple times in a row, at which point the response is "ok I guess you earned this win, take it champ." Making it a random choice of like 8 possible timings on top of this super tight window is just frustrating and makes mapping out the EMMI zone by brute force memorization more tedious than anything
>he can't pull off perfect 1 frame parries at the drop of a hat
ngmi
Be better at platforming, for frick’s sake. Only the late game EMMI’s are hard to avoid
Oh god frick that Ice EMMI.
Shut up b***h. If you dump me into a maze without a map so I have to wander around blindly, and put an instakill monster behind me, if escaping the instakill after wandering into a dead end is RNG my first instinct is to get annoyed. It is literally not fun. I already rated the game 9/10 in my original post so stop acting like I'm telling you the game sucks. This one fricking feature did not pan out like they thought it would -- they thought it would make the emmis scary but instead it was just irritating. Jesus.
>waaaah, I ran into a dead end 🙁
Jump and flash shift of the emmi, shitter
>Just jump, bro just forget about the fact that the emmi has paralyzed you from the next room over by line of sight! You're also underwater and can't jump btw!
The mechanic wasn't fun, get over yourself
I mean you are not suppose to get caught, period. I don't know what to tell you. Its meant to be a chance recovery.
I like it
Why is Prime 4 on your list? Its not even out yet.
I haven't played it yet
Not a fan of the boss battles. The difficulty spike from the Chozo robots made me lose interest in my last playthrough.
>The difficulty spike from the Chozo robots made me lose interest
What? The game isn't hard. At any point.
Black person my 8 year old nephew can beat those frickers. Holy shit you fricking suck.
Then I'm getting too old for games because they move way too fast for me.
>I'm getting too old for games
How old are you? I'm 43 and I had no problem with anything in Dread.
Maybe it's just that I don't find it very fun because I can handle other fast paced games. I kept getting stuck in the corner and fricked up by the red sword attack.
The chozo robots arent that hard bro. The filter is than annoying c**t who turned off the gas in the lava area, and the flying bug
>annoying c**t who turned off the gas in the lava area
Who?
Think he's talking about Experiment Something or other, the giant X-parasite monster that stopped the magma pump and tried to freeze Samus.
Ah, you’re probably right. Fun ass fight, and probably one of the harder ones, so it makes sense
It's pretty great. Not the best Metroid game by any means but it's a return to form for the side scrolling games and I really enjoyed it.
Great bosses, decent level of challenge but not too challenging, good variety of environments and the map is pretty great overall too, but the thing is it doesn't stand out as a genuinely fantastic game, it's just good enough but not very memorable either. Solid 8/10, I might play it again in a few years from now but it's not something I will come back to often.
Some things Metroid fans oughta know:
-AM2R update team (people who took over after DoctorM abandoned AM2R are still working on a big patch to overhaul the graphics i.e. make it so enemies don't just explode in a fireball/puff of smoke
-Metroid X-Fusion is STILL in development the absolute madman; all the bosses are done. Pic related.
>X-Fusion?
Metroid Fusion remake in Super Metroid's engine. Why? Because why the frick not.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EAaInaeZfCw
Do not watch the spoilered video and do not click on pic related if you want to go into this blind.
WAIT NO I posted the same yt link twice aaaaaaieeee
I recognize the one on the bottom left. That might be an updated Mecha Draygon sprite.
I kinda like the old one better but maybe my mind will change once I see the entire thing in action.
Jesus this has been in development for at least ten years. Kind of a shame the guy won't make any money off it.
>Powerhouse Animation gets the rights to make a Metroid animated series for Netflix
How fricked is it?
THE BABY tier
>Powerhouse Animation
I don't even know who that is.
>for Netflix
Automatic dogshit.
They're the castlevania animated series guys.
So double dogshit.
No Zero Suit, no watch.
Which was the best Hunter?
Sylux was the best for pvp by far. I dominated with his affinity weapon.
I would pay good money for a remake of Hunters on the Switch that fixes the god-awful controls and expands the multiplayer.
>rereleased prime
>echoes probably next
>splatoon is a big hit but Nintendo REFUSES to buy in on competitive multiplayer with one of their flagship IPs
To be fair, Nintendo has online spaces pretty well covered with Smash, Mario Kart and Splatoon.
>echoes probably next
Hopefully it gets the remaster treatment after Prime Remastered's success.
I almost want to hold off on playing Echoes on the off chance they remaster it (got the Trilogy on Wii U before the eShop went under) and it's all because I waited for Prime 1 for the longest and it got remastered. But I'm tempted to go ahead and play it so if it does happen I'm more familiar with it
Super Metroid Samus outfit will forever be best Samus outfit.
Hunters was actually a really good Quake 3 clone back in the day.
I HATE aiming with the sticks.Theyre too loose and my little aiming beam goes all over the place because either my hands are shaking or the sticks are drifting. just give me my Shoulder button diagonals like all the post super 2D troids
And shinesparking being tied to L3 is STUPID. jsut let me press down, god dammit.
Bosses are fun, but I feel like theres a "die until you get the pattern down" theme to them, more then learn and dodge(experiment Z-57 for instance)
Loved the throwback to the MB fight in all the central unit rooms. Nice homage
Emmis were fun, I didnt have a problem with them. Really loved the one you had to shoot from the ceiling(think it was the purple one)
Sammy's voice was VERY cool
Man I just wanna see Dark Samus come back
me too but unless they wanna pull a retcon out of their ass in 4 shes dead for good
>my hands are shaking
Why the frick are your hands shaking?
I dont know, frick you. I didnt ask for it to happen
you know, he's got the shakes anon
For me it was a very solid 9/10 (hours).
I sorta knew what I was getting into since it's not my first Metroid, but I still feel ripped off having paid $60 for it.
I think it's pretty good overall.
My biggest complaints is that it's deceptively railroaded and the EMMI sections can get annoying.
Definitely better than Fusion, doesn't quite surpass Super.
Game needed one more area. The final boss area should've included content that lasts one hour before you knock on RavenBeak's boss lair. I think the soundtrack could've used some shake up, ambiance mood building was possible in older games like Fusion/Prime. Overall I'm sastified but they were so close for a bonafide classic. Bosses were largely unfair slug fests, never liked the design approach being 10 minute boss fights.
Found it pretty enjoyable.
Far too linear and most of the environments feel the same but otherwise it's pretty good. I liked the creepy robot stalkers.
>Far too linear
No it isn't. You just haven't learned the sequence breaks.
Sequence breaks just let you go to a section you inevitably go to later on before you're supposed to. Point being exploration is redundant because you're always funnelled into taking the way forward despite the veneer of being open-ended. You can never, ever get lost like older Metroid games.
You don't know what linear means.
Neither do you clearly
Game's still linear if all you can do is simply skip forward and back along a rigid path. That's literally the definition of linear.
>skip forward and back along a rigid path
So not Dread then.
competent, has some flair in certain areas but also bland, a lot of the appeal of classic metroid comes down to a lightning in a bottle aesthetic genius and dread doesn't have that.
great gameplay let down by bland or underachieving everything else + returning kraid was dumb + the choreograph of the cutscene to suck Raven Beak's head essence was stupid as frick
Story was cool
Gameplay was fast
Inability to remap controls sucks dick
Atmosphere was indeed dreadful since most biomes are comprised for a majority of EMMI areas that look the same, the overall result is awful
Music was shit
EMMIs are not interesting, after the first 2 you get bored of them. They're nowhere near the level of threat and adrenaline rush as the SA-X scenes were. What made SA-X so great wasn't the chase but the looming threat of it.
Villain is actually pretty good.
>since the majority of most biomes are comprised of EMMI areas
fixed that for you esl-kun
>They're nowhere near the level of threat and adrenaline rush as the SA-X scenes were
I thought they felt exactly the same.
Maybe its because I first played both games as adults.
