Now that the dust has settled and it's already forgotten a month later.
What went so catastrophically wrong? It was supposed to be a generational game.

Todd lied
Starfield died
rent free
>troony lingo
not even pretending, sis?
>call it "NASApunk" and claim it's realistic
>add space magic anyways
>game is now just boring and dumb
This is Todd's first unique IP and it shows.
Todd just can't craft compelling worlds, Elder Scrolls and Fallout were both thought up by much more creative people.
Todd managed to frick up fallout too so
Remember f4 abominations called guns?
the world had tons of potential though. The freeranger questline, the crimson fleet questline, the vanguard questline all show the world has potential. It's just brought down by bad game design choices. Even the crappy starborn/artifact shit could be salvaged with just a few tweaks in the writing and of course making unique temple puzzles.
Andreja really makes my great serpent hard.
those questlines all sucked ass, freestar rangers in particular was boring and awful the whole way through, the only saving grace was the ship at the end
Why are they scared of giving women phat asses?
As an Xbot, I'm glad I can stop pretending to like this game. lol
it's a decent 7/10, can we get over how polarizing it is? there's nothing really wrong with it, except for all the criminally dishonest marketing hype related letdowns. But it feels pretty empty, and repetitive and not to be a dick but, boring
what 3/10 game would look like if starfield is 7/10?
Any VN
He said 'game', anon
keep in mind these zoomers grew up with FO4
One of those Sony movie games.
You have never played them, have you?
A 3/10 game would be something that's incredibly offensively bad and boring in every single way. The most recent example that comes to my mind would be the Gollum game.
Starfield is overall a fairly decent game. The problem is just that people expected so much more. It's a solid 7/10 game, like that other guy wrote. It does nothing new, but it also doesn't do anything offensively bad. The only bad things I can say for Starfield would be that the exploration is bad and that the loading screens can be bad sometimes too.
>A 3/10 game would be something that's incredibly offensively bad and boring in every single way.
So starfield? Everything single thing about it sucks. The combat sucks, the exploration sucks, the writing sucks, the flying sucks, the RPG elements suck.
The writing was offensively bad
>it feels pretty empty, and repetitive and not to be a dick but, boring
So the typical direct-to-gamepass game.
The game is fine.
E-celebs dont like it so therefore Ganker hates it with a passion.
E-celebs are sucking it off, zoomie
>Your opinion is ecelebs!
>No YOUR opinion is ecelebs!
You're both moronic.
>Fast travel everywhere
>no exploration
>load screens every 3 minutes
>requires a NASA supercomputer to run decently
>no DLSS
there's no way they weren't aware of these issues prior to release and just kicked it out the door anyway
>no exploration
>load screens every 3 minutes
None of these are true. The game is just boring.
Are you going to argue that walking over empty copy-pasted planet cells is exploration which can be compared to even morrowind?
You cannot uninterrupted explore anything like you can in Skyrim, empty planets don't count
Skyrim is pretty empty lol
As for non interrupted? It's not like Skyrim's maps are that much bigger than SF's single maps.
Yes? Not all planets are the same.
>As for non interrupted? It's not like Skyrim's maps are that much bigger than SF's single maps.
Why even post something this dumb, I'm talking about the open world, SF doesn't even have an open world
Todd beros we have all lost bg3 will give itself goty now
soulless pajeet/troony trash
i uninstalled my pirated copy, skyrim is unironically better
boring as frick with writing so generic and bad it could only be done by emil
Emil work is actually exceptionally bad. It exceeds at its outrageous stupidity.
No open world in a bethesda open world rpg.
this place has gone to hell, its just parrot your favorite youtubers opinions now
Youtubers and streamers love the game though.
oh really moron? every big youtuber shit on this game beyond belief, it was the new cultural 2077, ala the thing to shit on
>zoomie watches asmonbald
i dont watch him moron, im pointing out how you morons are just parroting the popular opinion, and how this place has just become a youtuber wienersucking echo chamber
Bald
i called starfield shit when it released. streamers and youtubers called it 10/10 . now that the shill campaign has ended and content creators shifted to ragebait, also calling starfield shit, then suddenly im getting my opinions from these troglodytes? kys idiot.
>NPC gives you quest
>Open menu - Teleport
>Run 500m talk with NPC
>Open menu - Teleport
>Mission completed
>Given 0001/1000 xp
Cool maybe I'll receive an actual skillpoint sometime next week.
for me it was the poor optimisation. Needing the latest hardware to get just over 60 fps is really bad.
Especially since nothing in the game justifies the power it demands to run decently.
they have 300k polygon sandwiches
For what purpose?
For purpose of having polygons, what else?
>Needing the latest hardware
like 2 days after it came out Todd and AMD came out with a special "optimized" $1700 gfx card specifically made to run Shartfield.
when asked why the game wasnt optimized he just told the interviewer that people should buy his special gfx card
dude is getting to Peter Molyneux levels of scam artist
Is it as boring as it looks? I haven't played it 'cause Baldur's Gate got me busy but I have watched hours of streamers playing it on youtube and I was bored as frick.
Not gonna lie, it's pretty boring. One might say Space Trucker games are also boring but Space Truckers are admiring pretty nebula and shit. Starfield is kind of...go to a planet, laser some ore, kill some pirates in a procgen base that you can spot on the horizon, and repeat.
It has a huge number of odd design choices all over the place. The "realistic NASA space exploration" and "but you become the Starborn and have magic AYYYShouts" is just one of the dubious things going on.
oh and base building controls suck. They're confusing. MAYBE they get more natural with practice? I dunno, but trying to build your own base is sort of shit.
I see. There's just something about space, astronauts, that type of shit that bores me. It's so sanitized. It's like a hospital. Everything is white/grey and sterile. I was never into that type of sci-fi.
if you wanna go gritty and realistic, go gritty and realistic and do the expanse. tackle governmental issues with people living away from earth, resource scarcity, terrorism, prostitution, drug use etc. and yeah expanse goes into a bit of space magic but it has some edge unlike starfield which feels like it's written for children.
>One might say Space Trucker games are also boring but Space Truckers are admiring pretty nebula and shit
I have Elite Dangerous but I never really gave it a proper try. How is it for someone who played a shit ton of 18 Wheels of Steel but nothing really else?
Makes you really wonder how bad they're gonna screw up skyrim 2.
why would they do a skyrim 2. next elder scrolls is going to probably take place in elsweyr so that'll be the name of the next installment. instead of vikings vs romans you'll get a rebel alliance of cat and lizard furries and wood elf homosexuals vs altmeri nazi elves. don't expect it to be done before 2027 though.
Snoys stay forever assblasted about this game.
You're the ones keeping it alive every day and forever.
>alive
The game's popularity already nosedived. Its getting mogged on this day by a game that came out a full month before it.
brutal
>What went so catastrophically wrong?
Sanitization.
I can't think of a game more sanitized than this. Even Lego and some Disney game might possibly be more offensive than Starfield.
the writers need handing their p45s and the dialogue needs a good thorough going over by some guys with a sense of humour and creativity in a room with a no women or trannies allowed sign on the door
that will make it an easy 8/10
Todd actually managed to lie harder and better than ever before. This game is so fricking boring and creatively bankrupt that I don't think even mods can save this one. It is just fundamentally shit down to its core. Exploration sucks, writing sucks, the roleplaying is more dumbed down and nonexistent than even FO4 which is quite the feat. I'm honestly amazed this game took as long as it did to make and have so little to show for it.
Now watch as a few months from now the creation kit comes out , and in a few ore months some DLC and patches come out and in a year or two the game will suddenly become ~~*engoodened*~~
If you think about it logically, going with the microbe solution makes the most sense. What if you have heatleeches in a space station? are you going to bring in a big ass mega fauna dinosaur to take care of it? no, you can just carry the microbe aerosol in a spray bottle and solve it that way.
>2011-Dragonborn
>2023-Starborn
creatively bankrupt
By trying to appeal to the widest audience possible every design decision was neutered to be as safe as possible. Every gameplay friction point was scrubbed, all dialogue and story was sanitized, and no thought was put into anything past the surface level.
The result is the blandest game of all time.
I got roped in with a shooty looty gameplay loop and never touched it again after about 50 hours. did a bunch of side quests, half the main story and the ryujin questline. not only is it mediocre as frick and boring but the performance is godawful. I will come back when it has DLC, 100 gameplay mods and DLSS
>same threads with the same words every fricking day
>what went wrong
have a nice day OP
How do you respond without sounding mad?
Everything is already forgotten, there are like 5 threads per day that are worded exactly like this with all you people's braindead phrases that you parrot every time a game with hype comes out. The majority of games suck now, even more likely so when they are popular and everyone has .3 second attention spans. It's always on to the next thing immediately because you fricking people can't be satiated. You demand slop and slop you receive, but then complain about it.
>What went so catastrophically wrong?
outdated gfx, endless loading screens, very poorly optimised, outdated gfx from 10 years ago, way overpriced ($130? fricking really?) and a fricking awful UI
if it fixed those things it'd be a 6 or 7/10 with mods and prob worth a couple of playthrus.
t.pirated it, uninstalled it and just went back to playing Space Engineers some more instead
The complete lack of innovation is honestly fricking insane. Combined with the blandness, the usual jank, and un-thought out gameplay and lack of exploration.
I was actually surprised at the laziness when I started collecting fricking Dragonborn Shouts from temples.
unironically wait for the mods
>b-but muh unfinished game
>m-muh bethesda wants modders to do their jobs for them
>m-muh todd lied
sure whatever, now shut the frick up and wait for the mods
Mods to do what? Theres not much you can do for such a fundamentally poorly made game
Conflicting design attitudes and not enough (meaningful) content. It wants to be a serious examination of humanity and our desire to explore but it also wants to be a goofy bethesda power fantasy like usual. The two don't really work together. And then it feels both empty and full at the same time, the worlds are all barren wastelands with nothing to do, but they're populated by the same outposts and bases everywhere. And then there's dialogue or lore that seems to indicate something interesting and big, but there's nothing actually there, e.g the House of Varuun has a bunch of lore talking about how their the third biggest faction in the game, except they all mysteriously left and there's none of them left except hostile fanatics. You would think that you might be able to find them or a clue to where they've gone but no, they really have just up and disappeared and frick you if you want more than that. And that's without mentioning the more basic issues like the fact that there's a loading screen every time you board your ship or fuel is functionally non-existent or the usual essential npcs bullshit. They took two steps forward and two steps back.
varuun is very obviously sequelbait, my nitwit friend.
The House Varuun is with the Celestial Serpent, jumping. And jumping. Always jumping, planet to planet, system to system, until they finally reach what they're looking for: the Kilrathi. And then we will have sex with their space cat women.
Pic related was shit but this is what a Bethesda style Space RPG should be like. Only with more instances than this game had. Honestly the space combat feels so bland and uninteresting and there isn't much to find in space anyway.
outer worlds is pure shit for gays and starfield takes a massive dump all over it, in absolutely every way. exact same thing goes for NMS
>New Delhi local time of ~10:30
Good morning, sirs
>y-y-y-you shit in the street
like clockwork
you shit in the street, "jeet
you know what? i shall. i shall redeem.
>starfield takes a massive dump all over it
You gotta be fricking kidding me
It really doesn't. Especially in alien landscapes, Outer Worlds has some beautiful views. Starfield is just empty flat nothing.
Starfield is just another example of the current state of modern "developers". They have a bloated corpse of a development environment that they monkey around in without any understanding of how the systems work, how to innovate or why any of the games were good to begin with. Be prepared to see old giants continue to regress until they die off.
It's why there are cubes with 100,000,000 tris, skyrim shouts and fallout 3 loading screens. This is what happens when you hand a legacy codebase to a bunch of 'jeets. It's the same reason why the web is a bloated mess, why every GUI interface is a nightmare to use and why nothing works.
all the classic zoomer talking points completely miss the point of the game. the game is a literal reflection of yourself- so all of the criticisms are actually about you as a person. Starfield is meant to bring out who you are is a multiverse of choices and decisions. Are you bland cuck who sits around pointing out woke culture- or are you a starborn racing to the next unity with a shotgun in one hand and a milf in the other?
Esg field
You DO NOT want ES6 out of this shit studio. 90% of development will be outsourced to indians and they will sprinkle the game with larry fink propaganda
Microshart is a cancer, look at all the soulless slop that comes out of their studios. ‘Good enough for goy pass’ is a real thing, its not a meme
Soulless copy-pasteslop
A team of 10 Skyrim modders could have made this game in a year
They really should have put all the time and effort used on this piece of shit into an elder scrolls or fallout game. What a colossal waste of time and money.
>It was supposed to be a generational game
i think it was supposed to be a quick cash grab for beth. todd was just jealous of no man's sky hype and decided to make simillar game on gamebryo for quick buck. i don't think they cared that much
>What went so catastrophically wrong?
It's not Fallout in space. Why wasn't the game set IN the Colony Wars or in the aftermath? With a much darker tone, more hazardous environments, more death and destruction, derelict ships, xenoweapons on the loose, etc. etc.
>Oblivion with guns has been a thing for 15 years
I lost any possible interest when they confessed it was still Gamebryo.
>"Ladders inside the spaceship are actually just teleports between the floors since the engine couldn't handle it :)"
As much as I hate to say it, I'm still playing it.
Too many loading screens. Skyrim and fallout are immersive AF because they have a huge common location to travel through. It is only logical that such location for starfield should be space, but it isnt, you'll need to look at loading screen even if you travel to the planet in the same system. That in turn makes people focus on other things that were always shit in bethesda games, writing and gameplay. Shitty companions and pg13 rating are just a cherry on top
It's one of the worst Bethesda games in the past 10 years, made by woke developers virtue signalling at every opportunity.
It's a trash game made for trash people who belong to a cult of brand. It did what it was made to do. Just as fallout76 did.
This, Im done with western gaming in general. Games are being developed by women and trannies pushing that ESG agenda. This is what happends when you got no men in charge and your country is ruled by gays and women.
