Now that the dust has settled, can we all agree that Brawl is better than Melee and that Ultimate is the best game of the series?
Now that the dust has settled, can we all agree that Brawl is better than Melee and that Ultimate is the best game of the series?
Brawl is worse. Ultimate is the best.
Brawl has the best singleplayer mode
Brawl’s singleplayer is ass. Locking the screen every time you are hit to simulate ring outs was idiotic. It should have been stamina mode
Nah that was fine stamina would have been ass in SSE
Na, that was garbage, and SSE was worse because of it. It was already going to be garbage though, because a lot of the characters are bot fun to control in a platforming context
SSE was terrible and the event mode was half as good as melee. The achievement room was the only saving grace
Do you guys have zero reading comprehension?
>and that Ultimate is the best game in the series
>the slowest game with tripping
>best
Eyep. Best content, introduction of final smashes, best additions to the roster, most hyped reveal in the entire smash roster, can play OOT and other classic masterpieces in the game itself, had the best soundtrack in the series and best aesthetics. Brawl was the peak of Smash.
>best aesthetics
brawls realism was pretty funny but let's not get ahead of ourselves here
Nah mate, I loved hearing how Ike's slashes felt like your opponents were exploding.
>can play OOT
wat
Have you never used the Masterpieces feature in Brawl??
No. That's when I started fricking so I didn't poke around too much playing the wii.
Shame bro, shit was wild
Kek no. I looked at it now and it's just a fricking demo. I'm glad I spent the time fricking a girl with double D breasts.
true, its the best game for anyone who hates playing smash games.
bosses are fun, stages where okay, spamming cheap enemies was not.
>final smashes, a bad Kirby game, and timed demos with input lag
>a positive
Brawl was peak smash yes. Ultimate is good but not as much as brawl. Meleegays need not apply
Brawl is a better “game” than Melee
Melee's engine is the best in the series
Ultimate, although still very flawed, is a decent enough compromise between the two
Ultimate's solo content really blows though, and no fun party mode like smash run/tour is lame frick you I enjoyed them
>brawl is hideously slow and floaty
>ultimate is way too restrictive
>smash 4 had a decent amount of freedom but was bogged down by lack of depth
Why does Melee still have the best gameplay in the series?
Have you 100% world of light or done the spirit board?
Yes to both. WoL is a one and done mode, it's disappointing it was just a glorified spirit board.
I only wish there were more unique bosses like in Brawl.
Rayquaza, Porky, Ridley and Galleom were great
>you have to beat world of light once to change the menu music
That was annoying.
Smash Run was great (although not as fleshed out as it could've been), it's Tour that fricking sucks.
Brawl had the most soul
Melee > Brawl > PM > 4 > Ult
This is indisputable
Brawl >> Ultimate > Melee > Smash 4
It doesn't
please feel free to explain why
even the director himself said Melee felt the best to play
Best to play in a vacuum but not the best gameplay, no. That has and always been brawl
I respect it
yes that is the order in which they came out, well done
It's always been:
Ultimate > Smash 4 > Brawl > Melee > 64
No need to correct me, I know I'm right
Melee, the least floaty smash game, is still way too fricking floaty. Give these characters some gravity ffs, even Fox glides slowly back to earth after a fullhop
brawl has a bunch of good ideas with poor execution with SSE probably being the epitome of it. Beyond that it's godawful to actually play so that drops it super low on any ranking. It really is a shame that they never even tried to improve on any of the stuff it had in the later entries. Smash bros in general is insanely stagnant outside of a huge roster
Brawl was the last game with a good base engine
Yes it's floaty as hell, tripping is moronic, and hitstun is nonexistent, but those are just parameters
Tweek those and it's actually solid, which is why PM works and ult mods like HDR don't. It's not just that PM had a great dev team, they were also working on a solid foundation
It's a shame. more gravity and hitstun, and no tripping would have made it a great game
Seconded, I don't mind the lack of wavedashing and whatnot not that much but just these small tweaks would make Brawl so much better.
I will say this though, Brawl with items and FFAs is genuinely peak Smash to me, there's something about the items and how they work that feels so good in Brawl but too overtuned or lame in Ultimate and 4 even if those games have better base gameplay
Hyrule Temple pit fighting was fricking peak smash man. I love that shit in Brawl. No other series have ever managed to recreate the sheer chaos and hilarity in playing in that stage
Nothing will ever beat the Hyrule Fight Club
I have a thousand hours in ult and played a lot of brawl as a kid and PM is the most fun I've had playing smash.
It felt like there were more references to things the characters were actually known for like snake tranq, Samus's ice mode, Lucario's Aura, all the stages and costumes.
Also for me it was my first time ever where every character I played ended up being fun instead of that typical experience in smash where you say to yourself
>I haven't played this character in awhile
>oh yeah, that's why.
The speed of the game contributes to that a lot.
People that write it off as just melee put into brawl are way wrong, it's its own game if anything
At least it got Banjoke-Cafloozie
That banjo looks gay compared to og the one on Xbox has more soul
Here’s the updated version. I think TrashbaGeno had no real chances in ultimate as there were too many competitors including on the nostalgia front, especially after the floodgates were opened in smash brawl and 4. Not to mention all the RPG, Mario and Square-Enix competitors. With Sephiroth, Sora and Hero out of the way his chances are good even if several SE IPs didn’t get sold recently. Assuming he’s not doomed to permanent Mii considering how easy that is.
i love looking back at old Smash discussion
>og the one on Xbox has more soul
Banjo and Kazooie came out on the N64 moron. The one Rare game that came out for the OG Xbox was Conker's bad fur day
He's never played a Banjo game, only nuts and bolts lmao
Nuts and bolts was better than banjo kanosoulie in ultimate.
In the first game the pots say frick you when you lauch your turd into them. Of course I played the first game buttholes
>He likes Nuts and Bolts Banjo
LMFAO
Freddy Fazbear lookin ass
Nintendo died in 2004 and hasn't made a good game yet.
I was literally just playing melee which I've played since 2001 and haven't gotten bored.
Atleasf call of duty releases games every year
You wait 6 years to play the same dumb gay ass game
I literally played brawl for 30 minutes got bored and threw it into the trash with a bunch of friends and we went to play melee again.
Its like comparing doom and quake to gay ass fricking call of duty or halo dumb ass casual paid for reviews game
Brawl was the worst. For me it goes.
1. Ultimate
2. Melee
3. 3DS/WiiU
4. 64
5. Brawl
I think Melee is the second worst of the series mainly since I play doubles and ffas. And that game is just not designed for a FFA or doubles. The only other game that's less fun is Smash 4
Ultimate has the flashiest looking combos but I think Melee is better for Doubles due to its tight controls
Sure, I'll agree with that.
Ultimate > Brawl > Melee > 64 > Sm4sh
>Brawl better than Melee
In terms of content and casual play, yes. Melee is only better in terms of competitive gameplay, which most people can agree with.
>Ultimate is the best game of the series?
Frick no, Ultimate has no content outside of a terrible event mode, mostly terrible newcomer picks, and the online is so terrible. Even worse is that they make you PAY to play online, yet they refuse to fix it.
Frick Ultimate, it doesn't deserve the name at all.
Brawl did a lot of stuff right but imo it's like this
Best music - brawl
Best items - brawl
Best since player - brawl
Best pokeballs - 64
Best mechanics - ultimate
Best visuals - 4
Best stages - melee/64/brawl (I fricking miss pokefloats and cornaria not feeling so cramped
Ultimate ( the marketing product ) is antinomic to Ultimate ( the game )
Whereas Ultimate's bounary centers around never ending surprises, breaking boundaries, ad overall a work of ambition, Smash as a game has never been less ambitious than with Ultimate. It is absolutely content with offering nothing more than fighting, it has 0 faith in the idea that its platform fighter root could offer different modes that could be enjoyable. There is nothing to Ultimate other than fighting, which is competent, but riddled with frustrating aspects. A quick glance at most communities will show that, although arguably much of it is owed to the garbage online and the playerbase.
You’re unintelligent
Has Ultimate even broke boundaries? It didn't do anything that could be considered "breaking the boundary".
>Melee broke the boundary with a original demon looking Bowser, Adventure mode, and trophies
>Brawl broke the boundary with a full-on story mode, 3rd party reps, and online multi-player
>Smash 4 broke the boundary by having a character whom doesn't have a connection to Nintendo past at all, amiibos, and custom specials
>Ultimate broke the boundary by uhhhhhhhhh......spirits? Oh wait, they're just a more fancy version of stickers from Brawl.
>melee broke boundaries with demon bowser
what a stupid post lmao
It's true though. Giga-Bowser is literally the first time in the series where the final boss transforms into something more deadly and that you wouldn't see something like Giga-Bowser from current Nintendo, given how fricking demonic he looks.
Ultimate has weaker single player content than Melee and even the 3DS version of 4 so I can't consider it the best. But it has the most varied roster with the most viable characters and its gameplay certainly feels better than brawl or smash 4. Melee just has more impact and speed to me, so I like that better but I play ultimate far more because of the cast.
I've gone back to melee (on the actual GameCube, not shoddy slippy bullshit) and the game strangely is way less polished than I remember. Air dodging feels really dumb in this game and the hits don't feel satisfying.
Ultimate has skewed your perception on polish. Just because it's less flashy, doesn't mean it's not as polished
But it clearly isn't as polished.
I like the fact Kazuya can do KBD in this game
Wait KBD is in the game.
Only for Kazuya
dlc ruined it
I don't think that's true
It should be this:
Brawl > Melee >= Ultimate > Smash 64 > Smash 4 (Wii U) > Smash 4 (3DS)
If you're a casual, sure.
Of course I am, why would anyone wanna associate with professor smash?
Professional smash*
Depends on which aspect of Smash we're talking about.
In terms of singleplayer, Brawl. Has Subspace, trophies and stickers for extra collection, modes like Classic and Boss Rush aren't gimped or completely absent like they are in later titles. Also has a "serious" aesthetic compared to the other games in the series, which I know is a point of debate for some people, but I love the contrast of Nintendo characters and a gritty look.
But for fighting other people, Brawl is shit. Meta Knight dominates the whole fricking game, DACUS is stupid, chaingrabs up the ass, tripping encourages camping both on ground and in the air. Inferior to both Melee and Ultimate in every way.
Ultimate has the worst SP of the series (if you count 3DS's Smash Run for 4, I miss that shit) but I'd say the absurd amount of characters, stages, and the best balance in the series makes it the best game competitively - though I'd say Melee easily has more depth, the content of Melee seems so small in comparison.
Overall, I'd say:
Ultimate>Melee>Brawl>>>64>4
I love Smash so much.
Oh but also frick Nintendo for making worse online than 4 in every way
I probably only like Ultimate more because I get opportunities to play it offline with others, I would understand why someone hated it if they couldn't
If parries were more useful in this game, I think it would be way better as a competitive and even casual game.
