Now that the dust has settled the past few years, is Leon a dickweed or a Giga Chad? He gets lost easily but his team comp is pretty solid. A GMax Charizard with coverage moves is nice BUT none of his Mons made it to level 100. Cynthia would still face roll him with Garchomp too. That said, he could get any puss he wants because he’s Leon.

He's likable but it's kind of a problem because they could've easily fixed the moronation of Rose's plot by making Leon more flawed. Just change things so that instead of Leon being perfectly willing to do the Eternatus thing later, he's been putting it off for years because he's too busy enjoying his fame and fortune as Champion. Then Rose getting pissed off after getting juked yet again, forcing Leon to do it when he's not at all ready, actually makes sense.
I thought the plot would be that Leon was artificially made champion because Rose wanted it that way for publicity sake

I mean it's already been shown that Leon has been putting it off. Rose emphasizes that it's not the first time he's talked about it with him, even saying that he's explained it to him "a thousand times." Obviously this doesn't mean it was actually a thousand times, but from the kind of man Rose is, it indicates that he's asked for his help a significant amount of times at the very least while Leon has kept putting it off. Because of this, Rose probably doesn't believe him when he says he'll help him and just thinks he'll put it off again. This is why Rose forces Leon to act by awakening Eternatus anyway. Pretty cohesive to me if you actually try to look into the subtext instead of taking everything at face value.

But they did. Rose being an impatient weirdo is something we get from him on our first real interaction with him when he forces us to go to a dinner then leaves before you even get to eat together.
You'd still have to completely change the Oleana segment into something that makes sense and make Team Yell into anything besides a complete waste of time, but at least it'd mostly fix Rose.
But that'd mean giving Leon a single meaningful negative personality trait and you can't do that for unbeatable charizard man.
